ISTA LIBERATION MANIFESTO
It has become clear, my brothers and sisters of the Weyr, that we are in dire straits. We bore without complaint when we were forced to fit twice as many smelly bodies into our cots as there was blankets to cover. We could have forgotten the lice, annoying as it was, for none were injured. We have accepted as worthy fate the long lines to the latrines, the klah that has been watered down so as to last so many mouths, and the rising tempers that accompany such crowded quarters.

But we should not, can not, take longer. We have seen the danger that awaits our Weyr, with so many souls to fill it. What happened at Hatching, this sickness which troubles so many among us, puts at risk our old and our young, can happen again - and it can happen worse. It is not our comfort at stake. It is the well-being of us, our friends, our loved ones. And we must act.

There are some wise above us, who have spoken plainly of their desire to see a new Weyr formed. The gracious and insightful Jr. Weyrwoman Favan knows the danger that awaits us, should we let matters stand as they are. But not enough voices have spoken, not where they matter.

Cue in the Ista Liberation Army. We exist to protect the Weyr from its own crushing success, to ease the heavy burden. For who has sheltered us, given us our hopes, promised our future? Who deserves our everlasting gratitude, our determination, our labor?

So we will rise. Wherever there is a place that we may demonstrate, we shall; not with voices, but with action. And we will not be noticed; for, we are not against the Weyr, who may find our efforts distasteful, but its most devoted guardians, who need not recognition nor reward when the time comes that we are vindicated. We will find the places where this challenge, this danger, the acute overcrowding of our beloved Weyr is most noticable - and we will make it seen.

In the latrines!; in the kitchens!; in the corridors!; in the alcoves!

We will spill food upon the table of the Weyrleader, jostled by the crowd. We will burn the food that we cook, rushing to feed so great many mouths. We will snore with our greatest might, so that even those in the forest weyrs are kept awake by the terrible noise we make every restless night.

Our job will not end until the danger is averted; until the good folk of the Weyr realize their own straits; until the groggy-eyed Wingleaders, without decent klah, cry for solution; until the dragonriders all clamor to be placed on the Night Watch, that they might get better sleep there than in their own beds. When that day has come, wisdom, in its purest and most undeniable form, will be seen by all in Ista. And the best wishes of our Weyr, our Weyrwoman, and all those with eyes to see, shall be fulfilled.

IN OTHER WORDS....
With the sickness spreading through the Weyr, it has become clear that overcrowding is a danger. It is known that Weyrwoman Favan wishes to see another Weyr established to alleviate the population issue, but there seems to be some balking. Supporters of this plan have organized a secret resistance, intended to compromise mostly of Weyrlings and Candidates, in order to make the problems of the Weyr undeniable. They will do this by sabotaging the latrines, mealtimes, sleep, and anything else that they can find to do.

If you have a character that would be interested in joining this movement, post here with a link to your volunteering character(s) to sign up! Riders will generally be considered Armyleaders, other Weyrfolk soldiers- however, friends of O'asis, S'van or Zara, or those that prove their ingenuity, may be promoted. (It's not like the titles mean anything though, srsly guys!)

Recruitment RP is available on request, otherwise it will be assumed that your character enlisted through the grapevine.

THE... OTHER OPPOSITION?
(ILA members are advised to be wary of, but not oppositional to, alternative organizations. We are all working to improve Ista, remember! The ILA encourages dual-memberships, as all work done to help Ista furthers the cause of the ILA. After all, cleaning up messes makes a scene and calls attention to the cause - but that doesn't mean you should let yourself get caught making them!)

Talis, rider of green Chelath, is against it. :3 She finds it completely disrespectful that riders of dragonets should think themselves worthy of creating an "army" and even ruder that they would "spill food upon the table of the Weyrleader." If she were weyrwoman, she would be certain that a harsh punishment be dealt for such insolence. However, she is not. She will merely be quite rude to it's followers.

"They invited you into THEIR Weyr, let you Impress THEIR eggs. If it is this much a problem, let proper riders take their stands, let the Weyrwoman make the decisions. Jr weyrlings have no place commanding any sort of army. Impressing a leader does not make." - Talis

EDIT

Feel free to put her in a plot, if you want. XD Not everyone can be on the same side, it might make for interesting rp.

EDITEDIT

V'len, Rider of blue Garenth, has no opinion. He disapproves of the methods and the fact that they're jr weyrlings, but he's pretty apathetic. He'd probably be one of the ones to want to stay at Ista, should there be a move.

Ohh, could be interesting! It'll have to go to RP to see how obvious things are, since right now I think it's not going to be a clear organization so much as a masterminded movement; i.e., everyone who identifies with it does their part, but there's not too much fuss over who's idea is what since there's nobody that wants to grab glory for something like this. I'll write her down as "Opposition", and see what we can do with it! mrgreen

S'kagi would appreciate the Sentiment, since I'm sure he's going as crazy as anyone, but he definitely wouldn't approve of the methods, for much the same reasons as Talis and Chelath.

R'ael I think would debate hiding under something until it blew over. XD

F'sey is just as tired of the over-crowding as anyone, but THIS isn't the way to do it. As soon as he catches wind of HIS weyrlings making this sort of trouble, he is going to do his best to run those rats so ragged, they'll have to give up. So definitely throw him down as opposition. <3

H'dek and Bondyeth, on the other hand, might be convinced otherwise. Well, Bondyeth might be convinced otherwise and drag H'dek along for the ride. If I could catch an RP with one of you guys, that would be great. :O He needs some action in his dull life.

And Darnaja, my candidate, will definitely be for it. He thinks the past mauling was on account of over-crowding and would rather not be the next victim, he he.

I know E'rik would be tempted by the idea of opening and traveling to another Weyr, where he and Daramulath would have a better chance at making something of themselves, but I don't think he'd ever be able to overcome his horror at what so closely resembles mutiny. If the present Weyrleader and Senior Weyrwoman were managing the Weyr badly or abusing their position and privilege it would be different, but as they're not, I think he'll side with the present regime.

As for Firyal...I don't know. She's not exactly happy with her life at the Weyr, but she doesn't blame it on the leadership. Mostly she blames it on herself and her inability to enjoy life like everyone else does. Besides, she knows that her opinion as a dragonless person is pretty much without worth. But, really, I think if the majority of her friends decided to side with the movement, she'd go along with them, and I think she secretly wonders if she'd stand a better chance of Impressing at another Weyr.

I'll volunteer Gh'lan and maybe Khunoth as a pair who beg the Weyrleaders to stop the madness. XDD! Khunoth may do a few naughty things without his rider's knowledge to further the cause... he's prickly enough to play both sides on the sly.

All right, the list is updated!

Sou, I'm good for RP whenever you are. biggrin Would you like for me to start one up?
PostPosted: Wed Jun 03, 2009 12:54 pm

I'm thinking J'riar is going to find this sort of... I don't know. I think the main thing he'll bring up is that there IS no new Weyr to move to. It'll have to be built! So what are they going to do in the meantime, try to live Holdless? The fact that they're going to be sabotaging the only place they can stay right now... well, he'll advise that maybe it's not the most clever.

Knowing J'ri, though, he's swayed pretty easily--someone can probably talk him into stirring up mischief here or there. It really depends on how it's brought to his attention; if he finds his latrine all stuffed up and have no idea wtf is going on, he's going to be less likely to help the cause. xDD

Goran is going to think they're all a bunch of whining fools and he will not be pleased that they are messing with stuff he has to deal with. >>;

Hmmm....

While Hanya loves the idea of a new Weyr (whee! Less competition!), she's kind of a hard one to convince to do something that would get her in trouble, so you can put her down as a supporter, but she won't be doing much active work unless someone wants to sway her.

Weylin is going to hate the methods but might step in anyway to help with organizing because he HATES seeing things done sloppily. So if you need a behind-the-scenes organizer, Weylin's your man.

I'm all for RP for either of them!
PostPosted: Wed Jun 03, 2009 3:01 pm

C'ym and Hanumanth are definitely against the methods. :3 While C'ym would prefer more living space and all, he and Han are both intensely loyal people. Err... person and dragon, anyway. Their views would most closely align with Talis and Chelath's.

Sign them up as opposition.

Mal is... err... well, he only just finished a stint of latrine duty. He really doesn't want to risk being kicked out, so he won't actively take part in anything, but he won't turn anyone in either. He's a sympathizer, basically.

Updated the list~ and will be working to arrange RPs for those who want them <3

}~{Oh man, this is a great idea!

Kyllae'd love this with a passion...she'd throw herself into stirring up/making things as uncomfortable as possible. Kyllae's always eager to improve her situation, no matter the means, so she'd have no problem with something like this.

T'ka and Haanyath...are questionable. While she wouldn't tattle if she saw a few questionable activities, it's unlikely T'ka would do anything to help the cause. She'd probably just sit back and watch the chaos.

I'd love RP for Kyllae sometime if you don't mind heart }~{

K'pak: They're doing WHAT.

Amalenth: *frowns.* This seems self-defeating -- if you are unhappy with the Weyr, why make yourself more unhappy by making things worse?

XD Sign these two naysayers up under opposition. K'pak isn't the type to bring tales to the Weyrlingmaster, but he is not opposed to intervening personally if he catches someone in the act. And that in itself could attract unwanted attention, if he's loud enough about it...
