'This time, I wonder what it feels like
To find the one in this life, the one we all dream of
But dreams just aren't enough
So I'll be waiting for the real thing, I'll know it by the feeling
The moment when we're meeting will play out like a scene
Straight off the silver screen
So I'll be holding my breath, right up 'til the end
Until that moment when I find the one that I'll spend forever with'

The Rider

Name: Zara
Age: 22
Sex: Female
Craft: Healer (pseudo-apprentice)
Rank: Wingrider
Orientation: Bisexual
Songs: How to Save a Life - The Fray, Existentialism on Prom Night - Straylight Run, Move Along - The All-American Rejects

Physical Description: Short and skinny, Zara doesn't have much of what others would call a 'womanly figure.' Her breasts are small, her hips are small, and she overall resembles a twig more than an hourglass. A plus of her light frame is delicate, chiseled facial features, although if she were more heavily built those wouldn't be much to look at either. Her hair is straight and long, a dull brown, kept in a near-constant braid. An attractive feature, one that she takes pride in, is her lovely grey-blue eyes. When it comes to clothing, Zara prefers loose clothing and soft colors...but when push comes to shove, she isn't very picky. A common outfit would include a linen tank top or halter top and shorts, perhaps a sarong if she's feeling dressy--almost always completed with sandals constructed of braided cloth. Overall, she's pretty, but not by any means stunning.

Personality: Quiet and studious, Zara tends to be on the fringe of most activities. Her reserve lends to the impression of shyness, but she's actually quite friendly--she simply prefers to let others make the first move. While the awkwardness of Holders around Weyr life amuses her, she tries not to make it too hard on 'fresh meat.' In her eyes, the gossips will make it plenty hard enough, so she's not going to add to their suffering unless they earn it.

She's still quite new to the Healer's arts, but when the wounded riders trickle in during Threadfall she's there with the rest of them...even if it's just to carry equipment and disinfect wounds. This could possibly be due to the fact she seems to have a hero complex. While she enjoys the occasional mischief as much as the next person, she's more likely to attempt to smooth a newly searched Candidate's transition into Weyr life than terrify them with tales of mauling dragonets and broody queens. She can become quite irritable in defense of someone that she feel is being picked on, and it's one of the few things that can get her to make the first move in socialization. Although she'd never admit it, she enjoys 'saving' people.

Zara follows orders well, but not blindly. If something bothers her about an order she's given, she'll question it--if circumstances permit. Even if an explanation is denied or insufficient, she'll often continue to follow the order...with resentment, yes, but she'll still follow it. Only if an order is truly stupid will she refuse it. As far as rules go, she's aware that most rules are in place for a reason...but on the other hand, some rules are made to bend a little bit. So while she has a bit of a stick up her a** about rules, it's a small one.

History: Zara's parentage is unknown to her, aside from the fact that they didn't seem to bother with her past infancy. The truth of the matter is that she was the unexpected result of a greenrider's flight, entrusted to the Weyr nannies so that her mother might return to active duty. Her youth was spent accompanying her peers in doing what weyrbrats do--shirking chores, causing mischief, sneaking peeks at eggs on the sands. When she came of age to become a Candidate, she did so with alacrity. And she stood...

Again. And again. And yet again.

Doubt and anxiety started to filter into Zara's mind as to her suitability to be a rider, and as a 'Plan B' she began an apprenticeship to one of the Weyr's Healers. She's spent the better part of a Turn thus, her trepidation growing even as she worked towards an 'alternate' life. And to Zara, it truly was a backup plan, a good choice just in case but not quite that which was her heart's desire. Even had she become a Healer, she would have returned to the Weyr, for it was her home and she could imagine no other.

The Hatching began as many others had, and Zara watched the dragonets hatch and Impress, one by one, with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. For a heart-stopping few moments she was sent into a panic by Beryl's unexpected and definitely unapproved arrival, but disaster was narrowly avoided when the flit was hastily sent back to the barracks to wait for her bonded.

Luckily for Zara, the Queen's attention had been focused on an egg containing that which would shortly change the young woman's life forever. As the spotted grey egg split open and the blue within veered from his path towards the boys, Zara had found herself watching the blue that tumbled out keenly--sensing this, her penchant for observation, the hatchling veered yet again...this time on a course straight for her.

Fuxith is hungry. Will Zara feed him? But he doesn't want to talk to his siblings. No, Zara must feed him far away! Haughty words, but words that indelibly changed a life nonetheless.

Other/Talents: Reading--she sought out someone that could teach her how, and grew to enjoy it. Her writing is rudimentary, however, suited more to short notes for Beryl to carry than anything else.

The Dragon

Blue Fuxith
Fuxith really doesn’t want anything to do with your childish games. He has more important things to do with his time, like spending hours contemplating a single flower, extraordinarily focused for a dragon. As a hatchling, when his siblings want to clumsily interact and play (under the watchful eyes of their riders), Fuxith would rather be alone, or be (attempting to) talk to an older dragon. They’re so much more fascinating and more mature! He doesn’t really realize how silly he looks, a tiny baby blue trying to talk to a great big brown.

He’s also very concerned with his reputation, and how others view both him and his rider. For their good name to go down would be Fuxith's ultimate shame, and he takes care that he does nothing that could potentially damage the pair. He can be strict with the behavior of his rider, though he's more likely to be dominated by their personality. Live and let live seems to be his motto regarding his rider, even if it doesn't apply to himself.

Fuxith seems to regard something in Flight as fundamentally 'dirty', and as such, will only rise to chase a female when he feels that his rider has some sort of attachment to the rider of the female in question. He doesn't seem to enjoy the process as much as the other males, and he would never stoop to the level of physically having to jostle a male out of place. That would just be most unseemly! What would people think if he did that? He's careful to hold even his strongest, lustiest emotions in check, afraid that they would hurt the careful image he has crafted were they to range freely.

In build, Fuxith is a delicate blue. There's something distinctly feminine about him, and Fuxith's small size doesn't help that impression. He's larger than a green still, but not so much so, and he's still outstripped by many of his siblings. He's not the smallest blue by a long shot, but he's still a rather small thing- not that he seems to mind. His staying power is negligible, but he's swift and adept at sharp turns, which will help Fuxith both in a Wing and on those rare occasions he rises to chase a female.

All in all, Fuxith can be summed up as a fussy, delicate dragon with an over-concern for how others perceive his place in the Weyr, and that of his rider. Something about him gives off a distinctly feminine vibe, though those rare greens he manages to catch would attest to his distinctly male composition. He'll need the right rider to help him calm down... Or worry along with him.

Oh God, Why Me?
Zara's tendency to observe will please Fuxith. In return, he can help her come out of her shell slightly, and further her academic pursuits... Of a sort.

The Leopard Shark

The sharks hunt in groups, sometimes with smooth-hound sharks. The species is actively sought by sport fishermen in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Monterey Bay for its tender, flavorful flesh. Conservationists are concerned with sport fishing of the species, which, like most sharks, reproduces slowly.

Leopard sharks can reach lengths of up to 7 feet (2.13 meters), but it is rare to find an individual larger than 6 feet (1.83 meters). The average size of an adult leopard shark is between 50 and 60 inches (120cm to 150 cm). Pups are born at a size of 8 to 9 inches (0.20 to 0.23 meters). The sharks reach maturity at a size of 3 to 3.5 feet (0.91 to 1.07 meters).

Leopard sharks have a reputation for being docile toward people, says Manny Ezcurra, who has handled the Aquarium’s leopard sharks since 1996. “But they’re not so docile toward invertebrates and small fishes. We have to be careful about who we put in the exhibit with them,” he says.

The Firelizards

Beryl's on the small side for a flit, even for a green. Her nature is unpredictable, sometimes clingy and smothering, sometimes nowhere to be found. She has rather remarkable intelligence, but it's not much of an advantage since it's paired with a tendency to be extremely scatterbrained. Unless Zara's nearby when she lays a clutch, she's almost certain to forget about it...thankfully, she's better at delivering messages than she is at tending eggs.

She's also figured out that her ticket to Fuxith's approval is helping to scrub those hard-to-reach spots when he's bathing.

More settled than Beryl. To be continued.

The Impression

Teh_Sil
Zara was very, very lucky that no one had spotted her flitt in the excitement of the Hatching. The usually observant Queen was focused wholly on the Leopard Shark Egg at that time, because it looked as though it would be next to hatch. It had delicate, precise movements that seemed almost feminine. It would give a green for sure, judging from the way it was moving. The dragon inside was really quite fussy, wasn't she?

The shell finally broke open, splitting almost evenly down the middle. The dragon that tumbled out with somewhat more grace than usual was not green, however. He was a lovely shade of blue, and if slightly small now, more than made up for it with his personality. From the start he made an impression, making it clear that he didn't like the sand coating him, and he didn't like not being able to walk properly. How could he get any kind of respect like this? This was just dirty!

His open disdain turned to piteous creeling as the blue began to stumble towards the boys. He veered off suddenly, his own hunger and concern for finding his bonded making that more important than appearing stately and graceful. The boys weren't right for him. No, he wanted one of the girls. He had to have one of them! His bonded was somewhere in there... He just had to find her.

All the Weyrs of Pern
The blue suddenly veered again, though he kept in his path towards the girls. There was his! His was hiding. Why was his doing that? Had she done something shameful? Well, never mind. He was dirty and he didn't like to be around all this screaming babies. He was clearly above that... Wasn't he?

Fuxith is hungry. Will Zara feed him? But he doesn't want to talk to his siblings. No, Zara must feed him far away! Oh dear... It appeared that Zara suddenly had her hands very, very full.

In the wake of Fuxith's Impression, more eggs were splintering and cracking, including one mottled shell that spilled forth a brown dragon who took time to shake his head first, trying to clear it of whatever cobwebs a baby dragon could possess...
