User ImageName: Auryn

Name Meaning: Latin; Golden one

Parent Sin: Gen 1 Pride (Enki)

Parent Virtue: Gen 1 Kindness (Colaer)

Age: Teen (16 years old)

Birthday: March 2nd (Pisces)

Hair: Long, wavy, and wine red

Eyes: Pale pink without properly defined pupils; Auryn is blind

Height: 5'

Physique: Long, slender arms and legs, soft curves

Unique Physical Attributes:

- Pointed ears: Elf-like ears.

- Blind eyes: Auryn is physically blind and (without her powers) can only tell the difference between light and dark.

- Pixie wings: Auryn's wings are too small for flight, and while they are feathered, are more like pixie wings than anything else.

- Scales: Green and yellow scales are found on her shoulders, down her back and on her legs, and also on the backs of her hands and feet.
-- Also, her fingers and toes have gray "points", which the skin feels a little tougher than the rest of her body.

- Horns: With her latest growth spurt, two small, white horns have started to grow on Ryn's shoulders. She likes them.

- Stubby tail: Auryn's tail is rather stumpy and is the same color and texture as her fingers and toes.

Inherited Skills:
- From Colaer: Can sense people's presence and see auras, as well as tell the difference between souls. As she's grown, she can also distinguish between inanimate and animate objects. Also tends to have a calming effect on people, but whether this is her DNA or just her personality has yet to be tested.
- From Enki: Keen sense of hearing, and a strong "sense of self" and pride in doing things her own way.

Sexuality: Straight

Crush: Pepper

Offspring: None

Likes
- Singing: Lit's passion is cooking; Auryn's is singing. She has a beautiful voice for a seven year old, and sings with passion and vigor.
- Making friends: Auryn loves meeting new people and being friendly. Super affectionate, but her DNA allows her to know when not to touch.
- New Sensations: Because she is blind, Auryn explores the world almost exclusively through touch...and she loves finding new things to feel and handle.
- Wings: Perhaps because her own don't function, while her "brother's" wings do, Auryn has always loved wings, especially feathered ones. She tends to be a little too grabby and forget her boundaries when a person with wings is involved.
-- Birds: They have wings and they sing. Why would Auryn not like birds?

Dislikes
- Being told "you can't": Auryn takes great pride in being able to do things for herself. Having someone say she is unable to do something (either because she's too young, blind, or what have you) makes her very disgruntled and stubborn. She becomes determined to prove the offender wrong.
- Burlap: It's rough, it's hot, and Auryn just plain doesn't like the feel of it.

Personality:

Theme Song: Break Away - Kelly Clarkson

Adult Speaking/Singing Voice: Lady GaGa

"Hello? Is this Santana DayStar?"

The wolfish man blinked his ruby red eyes at the voice from the other side of his cell. It was a woman he hadn't heard from in months, what felt like years. But there was no mistaking the tone of Ms. Felicity Spring, Lit's "case worker" who had first contacted Santana and got him to adopt the boy.

"Ms. Spring," Santana said with surprise. "Wow, haven't heard from you in a long time. How've you been?"

From his spot on the floor Litural, looked up curiously. He recognized that name; that was that doctor lady who'd actually treated Lit with a level of respect and pity.

"I'm well, thanks." On the other line, Felicity chuckled, "And yes, it has been a while...though I have been keeping tabs on the two of you. As someone who worked so strongly with Litural while he was here, I've gotten copies of all the reports about him from teachers and the update journals you've been sending to us as well."

"Yeah, that makes sense," Santana said, nodding his head. He looked down at Lit, shrugging when the boy tilted his head and mouthed something about what did the therapist want.

"So what's up? What has you calling? I know Lit and I have updates due soon, but they usually e-mail me about those. Is everything ok?"

"Oh yes, Mr. DayStar, everything is fine. Beyond fine...I actually have to congratulate you about the marvelous work you've done with Litural since he came into your custody."

"Well, like you said, a little TLC and he came around pretty fast. Only had to smack him around once or twice," he said with a smile, laughing some as Lit stuck out his tongue at the guardian. "Thank you, though...it's really been a team effort."

"Yes, a team," said the doctor, pausing a bit. "How would you feel about adding another member to that effort, Mr. DayStar?"

"Sorry?" Santana asked hesitantly. "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't...quite follow."

The woman on the other line was quiet for a moment, like he was trying to decide how to phrase her sentences, “Like I said you’ve done marvelous things with Litural. He’s grown up so much, and you’ve handled him very well, but there are still some things that we are concerned about, particularly his aggression towards women.

“Now, why this is, we’re not totally sure. It may have something to do with the fact his original guardian was a woman and he feels resentment towards her, as well as suffering some abandonment issues. It may just be his Wrath side responding to what is preserved as a weaker creature, especially since he doesn’t have issues with males and has even made a few friends with boys his age. Still again, it could be his Wrath side responding with his Chastity DNA, thusly making him aggressive towards women because it is “sinful” to want physical contact…and this is the theory we’ve been toying with the most, especially after his visit with Avis recently.”

“Ok, so and that all boils down to…what?” asked Santana, not liking the long description.

He had a feeling that SoS was going to throw him and his charge for another loop.

“Well, if the theory is correct, Litural’s Chastity side being effect by the Wrath anger would cause him to respond negatively to any girl or woman he found attractive. It would also cause adverse affects to females deemed ‘impure’ or unchaste. I believe Lit met Adhara not too long ago? Did he have any complaints of feeling sick or uneasy, but not exactly enraged by meeting the girl?”

Santana looked over at Lit as Felicity spoke, and the boy did not seem happy. They were talking about him, this he knew, and all he got was a very quiet Santana to try and listen in on.

“What’s she saying about me?” he asked in a quiet hiss, fluffing out his feathery wings to further express his annoyance.

“I’ll tell you in a second,” Santana mouth, before speaking back into the phone. “Yes, actually Lit told me later that talking with her made him feel queasy and dizzy. He said the feelings ‘came from the same place’ as his anger, but it wasn’t the same burning rage he’s used to feeling. It had us bother stumped for a while there.”

He could almost hear the woman smile while Litural frown deepened.

“Then our theory has some grounding, excellent.”

“I still don’t understand what you were talking about earlier,” Santana sighed, settling into the chair.

“Mr. DayStar, we want you to take on another spawn.”

The wolf man nearly hung up on the poor woman as he dropped the phone in disbelief.

Santana looked through the familiar pile of paperwork, thought not nearly as thick as Litural’s had been, reading about the little girl who potentially would be coming home with him and his charge that afternoon. She was younger than Lit was when Santana brought him home, just recently cleared for placement with a mental age of a four-year-old. A Kindness/Pride combination, she’d already been showing to take after her mother’s side and was very pleasant to work with and generally helpful with everything presented to her. The paperwork warned to watch out for her stubborn moods when she wanted to do everything herself; that was her Pride talking.

“She’s just down this hall,” the tech said, glancing back at Santana and Litural as he led the pair to the meeting room where the little girl already waited.

Santana seemed hopeful about this whole thing. After all, from what the doctor had said, this child should get along very well with Lit due to her kind nature. Supposedly, she was also very sensitive to the feelings of others, which would help her understand the boundaries and limits that Lit needed in order to function.

Litural, on the other hand, was less than thrilled…mostly because he wasn’t sure how this was going to change things. The apartment was already close quarters with the two of them living there, and Lit knew how expensive his clothing could be to order. What if this girl was also difficult to buy for? Would they be able to survive? And while he didn’t feel exactly “angry” about it being a girl, there was the other side of his emotions that made his head ache slightly and a sick feeling bubble in the pit of his stomach. No, he wasn’t sure he was going to like this at all.

The tech pulled out a jingling set of keys, unlocked the door and pulling it open, “She’s just inside here,” he said, motioning for the two to go in first.

The pair look at each other, Santana offering a slight smile while Lit continued to look concerned.

“Remember, this is your choice, Lit. If you don’t feel comfortable with her, we can leave and forget this whole thing…but you’ve got to give her an honest shot.”

Lit nodded his head, watching as Santana walked into the room before taking a breath and following after.

It was bright – of course, all these meeting rooms seemed painfully bright at times – with pictures of balloons and ribbon painted on the walls. Sitting off in one corner was a little table with chairs at it, and in one of those chairs was a quiet little girl with headphones perched on top of her deep red hair. She seemed very happy to just wait there, bobbing her head and swaying back and forth to whatever music was playing from the tape deck in her pudgy hands. Her pale pink eyes sparkled, though she didn’t seem to be focusing on any particular thing.

Suddenly, she stopped, swaying and instead looked towards the door where the two newcomers stood. There was a pop as she pressed the stop button on her music, hand reaching to pull the headphones off her ears.

“New people,” she observed, that smile not fading.

“Yes, Auryn, these are the people who came to visit you today,” the tech said from Santana’s right…purposely putting distance between Lit and himself.

“Hello there, Auryn,” Santana spoke first, starting to move towards the table, kneeling down beside the girl. “My name’s Santana,” he said warmly, offering a hand towards her.

At first, Auryn didn’t respond. Actually, she hadn’t even followed him with her eyes as he walked towards her, and her head wouldn’t move to look at him until he spoke from her side.

“Shake the man’s hand, Auryn,” the tech instructed.

As if she’d forgotten, Auryn’s brows arched as she stuck out a hand…missing Santana’s by a mile. Her little nose crinkled, and after setting the tape player down on the table she used both hands to search the air for Santana’s, gripping it lightly in her palms once she made the connection.

“Hi Ana,” she said with a proud smile, looking up at him…her eyes unblinking.

And Santana came to a realization that this little girl couldn’t see him in front of her. Probably couldn’t see anything or anyone.

“She’s…she can’t,” the man started, glancing up at the tech, almost afraid to make mention of it.

“Yes, Auryn’s blind,” the tech answered for him.“It’s a Kindness trait.”

“I thought Justice was blind?” Lit said with a snort.

“Oh no, Justice can see quite well…but Kindness only sees in auras of people or things. And while Auryn has the lack of sight, it doesn’t appear that she’s able to read auras as of yet.”

“I see brightness!” the little girl squeaked, holding her head high and puffing out her little chest. She did have quite a lot of Pride.

“We’ve been working with her to understand the difference between a lighted room and a dark one,” the tech explained.

“Who else there?” she asked suddenly, looking in Lit’s direction, and he found himself admiring her boldness.

Actually, he was barely bothered by her at all. He did feel a bit agitated simply by being back at Seven of Seven…but Auryn herself did very little to upset his nerves or make him feel uncomfortable. Honestly, when comparing her to Adhara, he found Auryn’s presence almost like a relief. She was so innocent, untainted and pure. It was refreshing after being bombarded with sickening thoughts about the pregnant spawn’s b*****d child.

“That’s Litural,” Santana said, glancing up at the boy. He motioned for Lit to come over.

Lit hesitated, but finally made his way towards the girl. He knelt down on the ground, close but not too near. “Hi,” he said blankly, his voice flat.

“Hi!” Auryn smiled at him despite the cold greeting, sticking out her hand for a shake, frowning when there was no hand to meet her. As before, she began to search with her fingers but as she came dangerously close to touching Lit’s arm he tensed, and she paused, pulling her hands away.

“No shake? No touch?” she asked him, her eyes sad but curious.

“I don’t like it,” he told her bluntly.

The thought made her look startled for a second, but soon Auryn nodded her head, as if understanding. Instead she reached out for Santana again, her fingers curling tightly around his thumb.

“No touch Lit’ral,” she said, the smile coming back quickly to her eyes before she looked up at Santana. “Go home now?”

“Uh, well…I don’t know if you’re coming home with us today, Auryn…” Santana said hesitantly, looking up at Litural with questioning eyes.

Lit met the gaze, all three eyes focused on his guardian. It wasn’t so bad, he supposed. After all, she wasn’t about to touch him and understood that he liked his space. She was quiet, not bouncy or in his face, and she didn’t whine or push things. Really, she reminded him of Dion…just a girl.

“Sure,” he said in response to the question Santana wasn’t about to ask in front of the girl. “We can give it a try.”

"That thing is weird," Litural said disdainfully, watching Santana type out some words on the Braille-writer.

The wolfish man glanced up at the boy, shrugging some at his statement, "It's really not that hard to use...I just have to keep my cheat sheet nearby, heh," he said with a chuckle, picking up the sheet to double check how to make the letter 'R'.

"Here, take those foam letters and start sticking them onto the labels, would you?" Santana asked, pointing to the pile on the other side of the coffee table.

"What exactly is all of this going to do?" Lit asked, sitting down on the couch to do as he was asked.

"Auryn needs to know the objects in her life, right? And she also needs to understand Braille and how Braille translates into letters." Santana motioned to the foam letters. "We pair the foam with the Braille so that she knows how the word 'couch' is spelled in Braille and letters, and she'll know what a couch is."

"So then what are you making now?" Lit said, wrinkling his nose as a letter got stuck to his finger.

"Auryn's Cheat Sheet. If we don't teach her the alphabets themselves, first, those labels will be for nothing," Santana explained, pulling the sheet from the writer and moving to sit beside Lit.

The sheet had the entire Braille alphabet printed on it, and Santana started pulling off the little foam letters and putting them with their corresponding set of dots. They worked like that while Auryn slept, spending close to an hour before every label - from the kitchen past the bedrooms into the bathroom - was finished.

The door to the little girl's bedroom opened slowly, and both males looked up as they heard tiny feet shuffling on the floor down the hall.

"Ana? Lit'ral?" came a groggy sounding call, and Auryn appeared in the living room, rubbing her eyes and looking just generally disheveled.

"On the couch, Songbird," Santana answered.

Her little eyes smiled tiredly, and carefully Auryn moved away from the wall and maneuvered towards the couch. Feeling the back and the arm with her hands, she came around to the front and crawled up next to her guardian, leaning against him and rubbing her cheek against the sleeve of his shirt with a content hum.

"You have a good nap, 'Ryn?" asked Lit as he stood up, stretching out his wings and arms.

"Yush," Auryn responded, yawning softly. "What you dooin'?"

"We're making you letters with that machine we got the other day," Santana said, sitting back on the couch and putting his arm around the little girl. "Do you want something to drink really quick, and then we can show you?"

"Yeah!" Her little face lit up at the idea of learning something new, and Auryn sat a little straighter as she began to wake up more.

"A'right...let's get you some water, and then you can learn your alphabet," Santana agreed, carefully standing up and heading into the kitchen for a cup for the child.

A few minutes later, the triad was sitting on the couch again with the cheat sheet between them on Auryn's lap, her hands running over the bumpy marks and feeling the foam letters with her hands. Litural didn't exactly participate, but sat watching them between commercials on the TV. It was definitely interesting, this Braille thing.

"A," Auryn said after a moment, and wiggled as Santana patted her on the back.

"Very good! Ok, what's...this one?" he asked, carefully moving her fingers to another letter and letting her feel them.

Auryn concentrated, pondering the shape of the foam letter and the little dots that were presented to her.

"L," was her answer. "Saw this one," she said, a little confused.

"Are you teaching her how to spell my name?" Litural asked suddenly, giving a little snorting laugh as Santana nodded his head.

"Yep, sure are...that's how you spell 'Litural', Auryn. What do you think of this so far? Pretty cool, huh?"

"Yeah!" Auryn squeaked happily, bouncing lightly in her seat.

Santana smiled proudly, amazed at how well she had picked up on these things. Soon she'd be ready to have the labels on the furniture, and would probably start spelling things on her own. The Braille-writer itself would have to wait until she was better maneuvering her fingers, but that was alright. She was learning to read despite her handicap, and like Litural had, Auryn would shine in her own right.
