Settling down on his couch, he opened up his laptop and checked his e-mail. Sure enough, a message popped up from the Seven of Seven facility, asking for an update on the girl's progress...and Lit's too.
"Has it really been that long?" the man pondered to himself, glancing down the hall. Time sure did fly when you're raising two children by yourself.
Santana's Journal
While I had my doubts about taking on a second spawn, I've gotta admit that this one has been much easier than Litural ever was. Not that I can blame the boy for that - not that I ever would - but the difference between the two is astounding.
Auryn loves to be held and cuddled. She loves to touch things and feel them with her fingers or against her face. She spent her first two days living here walking around, running her hands over the surface of everything within reach, and it was amazing how quickly she learned her surroundings and was able to get around the apartment without help.
This touchy/feely nature didn't really concern me too much. What worried me was how Lit was going to respond to it...and he's really amazed me with his control. There have been more than a few times that, out of fear or worry, that Auryn has attached herself to his pant leg and Lit responded with all of the methods of meditation I've given him. He really is adjusting well, and I'm proud of him.
Getting back to Auryn, she loves to sing and to read. After borrowing that Braille-writer, I did some further research and found ways to make your classic story books more interesting for blind children by adding textures and giving examples of objects to the children. Auryn's favorite right now is The Poky Little Puppy, mostly because I went out and bought all kinds of toys to "show" her what a fence is, or the various bugs and animals the Puppy meets on his journey. I read it to her every night before bed and she's even started reciting it back to me.
Oh, and did I mention she loves to sing? I usually have music on when I cook dinner, and no matter where she is in the house, Auryn will come running in and start singing along to my songs. She belts those suckers out at the top of her lungs. Whatever words she doesn't know, she makes up...and even makes up her own songs every so often. She really is something.
So, all and all, things have been well. Auryn's adjusted wonderfully, Lit is falling into a big brother role, and while I thought things would be tough, this has actually been a really awesome move for us.
