Backdated - Parent Meeting Sheet

It had been snowing for days. Thankfully when you lived in an apartment building, that didn't mean having walks to shovel or driveways to did out. It did mean that everyone got a little...antsy. Down the hall, the neighbors were once again shouting about nonsense, upstairs the toddler was throwing a fit because it couldn't go out in the snow.

Auryn didn't hear any of it; she was in her room, dancing around with her headphones on and singing into a hairbrush microphone. She'd been at it for hours without care, and didn't realize when there was a knock as her bedroom door.

"Why do I even bother?" Santana sighed to himself, poking his head in. "AURYN!"

"AH!" Auryn jumped, yanking a bug out of her ear and dropping the hairbrush with a thud. "Oh...yes, Ana?" she said with a sheepish grin.

The wolfish man shook his head, grinning and holding out a large envelope to the girl, "Something came from Seven of Seven for you today."

"Maybe it's from Pepper!" Auryn said gleefully, snatching up the package and plopping down on her bed to tear into her mail. "Well, it is some kind of paper," she mused, her face quizzical as she felt for something definitive.

Santana sat on the edge of the bed, taking the letter as it was offered to him from the young girl and reading it over.

"Seems they're doing away with the actual parent visits," he explained. "Probably because of all the trouble they've been having with the demons, but instead there's a bunch of info here about your demon DNA and a picture."

Auryn frowned, even pouted with her arms crossed heavily over her chest. "But I wanted to go visit Enki," she almost whined, sighing as she felt for the paperwork again. "Do they not realize I won't be able to see his picture?"

"No," was the guardian's sad reply. "They probably had techs just put everything together and then send it out without looking at your file. I'll help you, though."

"Do you think we could still go and visit?"

"I don't understand why you like going back to that place," came Lit's comment as he passed by the room.

"Cause then I might see Pepper!" Auryn called back, grinning.

"Exactly!" was Lit's growled reply.

1: What is the name of the parent that you picked to study this time around?
a: Enki

2: What is the Virtue or Vice of the creature? Or was the one your studying a Neutral? Or is it Reshmi who doesn't fall into any of those categories?
a: Pride

3: What made you pick this person? Was it because you were more curious about them? Or was it something else?
a: I already visited Colaer, so Enki was my only choice.

4: From the photo do you see anything right away that reminds you of you? Answer Yes or No.
a: No (I can't see the picture)

5: Name at least one thing you have in common with the one that your studying up on today.
a: Supposedly I have scales like he does. I also have a tail.

6: From the reference material do you find that it sounds as though you have anything in common with this creature that isn't something physical? Answer Yes or No.
a: A little...?

7: If you answered yes, what is it you have in common with the one your studying up on today other then physical traits?
a: I have keen hearing and smell, but I don't know if that's because of his DNA or because I'm blind.

8: What is it that you find the most interesting the one your studying today be it something physical or perhaps a skill that they might have.
a: Supposedly he walks on all fours most of the time. That's funny.

9: If you had one question you could ask of this person what might it be?
a: Do you like to sing?

It was at least a week after the move, and Auryn was still unpacking. Those first few days had been tough, filled with adjustments all around. She'd known this was how things were going to be until Santana could get a new job, but opening the boxes and pulling out her stuff was the last step. Once everything was in its new place, there was no going back home. She'd been putting it off on purpose. At seven years old, she didn't want to accept that life on the Refuge was her life now.

She'd been organizing her Braille equipment. Not something she used often, as letter writing had never really been her thing, but it was nice to have in case. Finding her typewriter hurt the worst, bringing back memories of Pepper and making her cry a little, but she set it on the desk in her room nonetheless. It was what she found under her typewriter that gave her a bit of comfort.

Santana had given her the journal shortly before they'd moved. It was special for her, with removable pages made from the thicker paper needed for Braille writing so that she could type into it herself and keep her thoughts private. The outside was covered in a soft, almost suede fabric with an embroidered "A" on it. As far as purpose, mostly it was for Sevens; a requirement of the facility for adoptive guardians and their spawn. She was supposed to write in the journal to let Seven of Seven know how she felt about her life, the changes she was going through, and "to just generally be nosy" (as Lit put it).

"Who knows when I'm going to go back there again," Ryn spoke out loud to herself, feeling the soft fabric that covered her journal.

Well, why not use it anyway? Santana was busy these days, trying to get things settled for them. Lit was an absolute bear, more irritable than ever because of the move. Who else was she going to talk to? She didn't have any friends here, yet.

She pulled out a few pages, set up her typewriter...and wrote her very first journal entry.

Auryn's Journal
My name is Auryn. This is my journal, but I don't really know what to write. I just moved from home, and that makes me sad. My guardian, Ana, lost his job and we had to move. We now live with his family in the woods. It's called the refuge, cause Ana is a wolf kinda person, so his family lives in the woods. So far things have been nice here. There are a lot of people, which I'm not used to, but they are nice and helpful to me and Litural, who is kinda like my brother but not.

I share a bedroom with another girl my age. Her name is Ada, and she's pretty cool. She is Ana's niece, and she likes to climb trees and get in trouble. But she is nice and never makes fun of me for being new or anything.

I miss my home, even though this is my home now. But it doesn't feel like home. I miss my friends, and Pepper cause he was my best friend. I will miss him the most. Hopefully he will come visit me in my dreams, because he can do that. That is kind of like seeing him, but not exactly.

I hope Ana can find a job soon, so that we can go back to where we lived before. Things are nice here, but it's not the same.

Santana settled into his bed, groaning and rubbing his eyes. What a day; job searching, dealing with his pack, trying to make things easier for Lit and Ryn. Granted, they'd been handling the move much better than anticipated...but things were still hard. Lit kept getting into trouble with the other boys his age - typical for both parties, really - and while Ryn got along well with just about everyone, Santana knew she still missed being home.

"No one can blame her for that," he muttered, reaching for the stack of mail he'd brought into the room with him. Bill, bill, credit card offer...and a letter from SoS? They were still contacting him about the kids?

Reading through the letter, it seemed that the facility, despite Santana having moved the spawn thousands of miles away, were still curious about the well-being and development of Litural and Auryn. Well...if it's a letter they wanted...

Santana's Journal
So the move shook us around a bit. Lit keeps getting into trouble with a group of young males; they know their status, they know where they stand with each other, and where Lit doesn't stand with them. It is pack mentality for them to single out and pick on the new guy, which of course Litural doesn't take well to. For the moment, my sister and her mate - the alphas of our pack - are just letting things go. Eventually, Lit will either find a place or they'll beat some sense into him...at least that's the theory. Honestly, I feel like they're underestimating Lit's anger, but their word is law.

And we're going to be stuck here for way too long for me to try and challange that.

Not surprizingly, Auryn has adjusted much better. She's made some semi-friends, specifically my niece who has been her roommate since we moved into the territory. They get into trouble, as Adamina is famous for being mischievous, but nothing serious.

More interestingly with Ryn is that my great-aunt has taken an interest in her. My aunt is...I suppose you could say our sage or medicine woman? She's our healer, both of injured bodies and injured souls, and she's talked to me a few times about Ryn's potential. Obviously we can't hide - wouldn't want to hide, really - the fact that Lit and Ryn are even farther from being human than my people are. The other day my aunt mentioned that Auryn could do the same thing. She sense a great aura of healing about her.

If things go well, she may start taking lessons with my aunt to harness that energy. It would certainly be a good thing for her, giving her something to take her mind off of things. Honestly, I don't know. Here's hoping, I suppose.

Auryn's Journal
I'M GOING HOME! Oh man, Journal, it's great! Santana got a new job, we're gonna have more money now! I GET TO GO HOME!

Don't get me wrong, I've really grown to love it here. Ada is one of my best friends EVER and I love her to death, but this place isn't home to me. I wanna be back near the city. I wanna go back and see Pepper, and all of my friends that I left behind. I miss them all so much. I miss Pepper so much, but you know as well as I do that that's a different story. And I just can't believe how fast everything is changing, but for the GOOD!

I know I mentioned to you before about Spirit Mother. She's been teaching me how to use magic. Earth magic like what the pack uses to shift. She kept telling me that even though I have a shadow inside me, my soul is truly good and I can help to heal the sick. I really didn't understand what she meant, but it doesn't matter anymore.

BECAUSE I CAN DO IT! I sing, I can sing so well! And I can help animals feel better just by singing. It's amazing! I'm amazing, Spirit Mother said she's never seen someone as strong as me when it comes to a healing voice like I have.

It's strange to explain. I don't think I could. But she's taught me these songs, and when I sing them I can feel the magic flowing through me and out through my voice. MY voice, out to the animals and making them settle and calm down.

She says I'll never be able to heal someone physically with my voice, that takes more magic then I can learn at this age, and really I'm a stranger to the earth, so I may never be able to do it. But at least when the babies cry and the work animals are hurt, I help them calm down for her while she works her own magic on them.

It's just amazing, and I'm so grateful for her to show me all of this. She's really become that female influence I never had, and Ada's the sister I never wanted (kidding, Ada! Kidding!).

Which is why, for as happy as I am to be going home, I'm sad too. I'm going to miss Spirit Mother - my knuckles won't, haha, but I will! - and I'm going to miss Ada. But man, man oh man....I'm so glad to be going HOME!

Auryn pulled the paper out of her typewriter, feeling over the Braille on the page with a satisfied smile. It wouldn't be happening yet, but soon. Santana had come home that night announcing that the construction company he'd been working for the past few months was promoting him, and sending him to work at a site on the other side of town from where they used to live. With the added bonus to his salary, by the time the job started they'd be able to move back home.

Auryn couldn't wait.

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)
