Alastor, Eternal Senshi of Despair

Reims had asked an honest, viable question. He was young, and looking for a solution. In the same way that Alastor would not have blown up the Hall of the Ancients, it was easy to assume that Urania would not want the Observatory destroyed, either. Even if it hadn’t been the last building on her world.

But Alastor did not blame him for asking. He was young, and had inherited his Wonder. He had not been born to a different world and left to cling to whatever scraps of it remained as it slowly rotted away.

Perhaps, in some cases, it was a very practical solution.

Briefly, Alastor’s eyes slid to Grieve, but he said nothing. He crossed his arms over his chest and drummed his fingers over his arm. This place was unnerving. He hoped the Chaos would crumble quickly.

Selinur was here, so that was some small relief. He was familiar. He was old. His world had its challenges, too. His rank would deceive his wisdom and Alastor hoped he’d be an asset. They were personal questions, sure, but Selinur was always trying to gather information. And, maybe there was a solution in those answers.

“They’ll be fine,” Alastor reassured Sessrumnir, but he was still scanning the crowd, and whatever he could make out of Urania beyond that. “They’ll look after each other.” Let them converge and work together, it would be easiest to keep their eye on them if they were all in one place. He had faith in Amarynthos and Ephesus, whose strengths lay in different areas and who each had a knack for helping others find their own strengths. No one was here by force, though some looked more confident than others.

Amarynthos was putting up an easygoing front, like he wasn’t troubled by anything here. But, for all the little smiles he gave Ephesus, and all the friendly waves he shared with his friends, Alastor did not miss how often Mary was also skimming beyond them, or examining the tower. It was a facade, but he probably learned that from Michael.

“Ephesus was of more use than me when we were here,” he reminded. “But I didn’t feel anything here like I did on my world. I don’t know what Chaos has done here. But at least she knows where it is. And it doesn’t look like there’s a water source around here, so.” He turned his gaze to Sessrumnir and smiled. “We should be fine.”

Of course, the smile was mostly real, anyway. He’d heard Ephesus’ quiet voice, honest and hopeful. He said her world wanted to heal. Alastor believed that, and he nodded towards Effie while meeting Sessrumnir’s eyes, as if he should be just as reassured.

Amarynthos, Squire of the Moon

Amarynthos flashed a smile at Yvoire, and raised a hand to greet him as he approached. He snaked it behind Ephesus to pull him close. Unlike Sessrumnir and Alastor, who only stood close enough for their elbows to brush, he saw no point to hide the fact that he was very involved with Ephesus. And anyway, it was reassuring to be close to him.

“I like the way you think, Effie. She seems really passionate about healing her world. So I bet they have a close connection.” If it was anything like Alastor, then that bond would make this easier, right?

…Not that he wanted Ephesus to think about the Chaos on Alastor. For all they knew, this one might just give you really bad sneezes. Or maybe it was like the Negaverse and it could turn you into a monster. Or maybe you breathed in the fog and it exploded you from the inside out.

He squeezed Ephesus a little closer. “Let’s just all look out for each other. Effie, you’ve got the most experience here, so I trust you if you say her world is receptive to wanting to heal. But that probably means the Chaos is just going to work harder to chase us off.”

They had a pretty decent group, that meant lots of people to watch their backs. “So if anyone’s in trouble or needs help, the rule is that you have to say it. You can’t just pretend to be okay. I want everyone to get out in one piece. So don’t bite off more than you can chew.”

He didn’t want to talk too much and miss anything important, so he was trying not to talk too much or too loudly, and he glanced at Urania occasionally to make sure he hadn’t missed anything.

Dering, Squire of Lysithea

Truthfully, Dering had no idea how many Lysithea Knights there were. They kept showing up and flustering him, especially when they seemed like they were making so much progress so quickly. He was doing his best! He just wasn’t very good. But he wasn’t going to tell Rose that, nor was he going to say anything to discourage her or put himself down. He didn’t want his friends to think poorly of him so it was best to just swallow those concerns and put on a brave face.

Amarynthos and Ephesus seemed so put together, and he was glad he was in a group with people his age. And who seemed like they knew more about all of this than he did. He’d already gotten to spend some time with most of them so he trusted them–and Reims had been really good at looking after him when they were on Cybele.

He should have been more afraid of the Chaos here, but…

They’d overcome all of their obstacles before, hadn’t they?

He held his oversized lute in front of him; the strap went around his back so he didn’t need to carry the burden of its weight in his arms. It was just a little reassuring to have it there, just in case.

If Amarynthos wanted them to look after each other, he’d do his best.

He didn’t know Urania but he wanted her to have her world back. He’d do his best.

Promethei, Squire of Mercury

When Emain Ablach had been gathered by Urania, he had taken a few moments to reach out to two other knights he knew. That was how Promethei and Imhotep had ended up called to the surface of that asteroid on this particular night. Specifically, Promethei, because Emain Ablach and Imhotep still had remnants of tension between them. Promethei was still more easily accessible, even considering everything else that had occurred.

(That included a shower session that had been long enough that when Zebulon and Tobias emerged from the guest quarters, they wondered if Teegan and Diryas managed to figure out how to fall into the drain.)

Forgiveness was a long road.

It was why Promethei stood between Imhotep and Emain Ablach, even remaining there once they had arrived on the surface of Urania.

It was his affection toward the both of them that had him still holding their hands even as others let go and began to spread back out. He even squeezed their hands instead of drawing more distance between them. Promethei didn't particularly care if anyone wanted to comment on them, more concerned with the press of chaotic energy he felt filtering out of the observatory. (And if anyone wanted to, he would like to remind them they had greater priorities. Like the damn chaos that was infesting this alient world. Let him be supportive to his loved ones in peace, thanks.)

"s**t," murmured Promethei, shuddering at the feeling that came out of the building. That was wrong. Very wrong. It was giving him gooseflesh, honestly. He idly listened to the rest of the conversation around him, especially the words from Urania. Once he had gathered enough, he turned his attention toward Emain Ablach, who he figured would have a better idea of what was happening. He was, after all, the one who had recruited them there after having worked with Urania before. "That's really the last building left here?" The last building remaining on the entire planet? Chaos decimated. He didn't understand how anyone thought they might have been the good guys. "With all that ******** chaos flowing out of it, gotta wonder if it remains because it does hold the chaos within it."

Was it at all like the bigger realms that seemed to house whole other factions like the Mirrorspace and the Negaspace? Were there creatures of their own in there? Did this planet have anything like the mirror wraiths or the youma? Would they be behind the doors?

He supposed they would find out either way. They had come to help, and hopefully, by the end of this, this particular planet would be restored to what it should have been in the first place.

Promethei squeezed Imhotep's hand.

They'd take care of this here so it had no chance of getting to Amoris, who had not come with them that day. ... and to Earth, of course. After all, that was where the four of them lived. Wasn't really a place they could just move their asses to.

Elliott, Guardian of Nembus

Elliott did not hesitate to answer Urania's call. He understood, perhaps more than anyone else there--or so he told himself--what she had seen the day she upgraded. He was, after all, right there next to her, her and her orb that she had found.

The magic had been holding this chaos back, but it was loose now. He couldn't help the low growl when he felt it, back arching in an attempt to be threatening. He pawed his way over to where Urania stood with another senshi. She looked to be alien too. He nodded to her, but quickly turned his attention to the one he was concerned with. "Urania, are you ready for this? I do hope the upgrade I was able to provide does give you some extra strength."

Elliott was more concerned with the senshi than anything else that was happening there.

"I am not at my full strength," his expression shifted to frustration, his ears flattening, "but I will do my best to assist you here. If there is anything involving technology, you can count on me."

Too bad he did not have more regular access to something like thumbs... He supposed he could swap to his human guise, but he could not imagine this would be done within an hour.

Connie, Squire of Chronos

“Oh, I should,” Connie squeaked in agreement with Belmont because asking Urania where she got such a cute little dragon was definitely an amazing idea.

Perdita also had a great idea, which was to stay close. Getting separated wasn’t something she wanted to do. Not when there was Chaos involved. It seemed like others knew what they were doing, or maybe they were trying to find out if others knew what was going on or what the plan was, but as long as Connie was there, she would do her best! Even though she wasn’t entirely sure how to help.

“Oh, well, I hope we don’t run into any bugs,” she decided and made a horrified face. “I have bad luck with bugs. So as long as the Chaos doesn’t manifest into bugs, I think we’ll be okay.”

She hoped. Either way, she was definitely going to stay close to Perdita and Belmont as best she could.

Maybe Urania will let them pet her little baby dragon at some point. Oh, maybe after getting rid of the Chaos first.

Reims, Squire of Ganymede

“I don’t hear any better ideas,” Reims clicked his tongue to the roof of his mouth and defiantly crossed his arms over his chest.

“I thought we were here to destroy the Chaos. If it’s in one location, why risk letting it get out,” he shrugged.

It wasn’t as though they hadn’t successfully blown up things before, although he didn’t think it was fair for Urania to look at him as though he was going to pull out a pack of explosives from his subspace while also being sneered at and infantilized. From someone cosplaying as a Simpsons character no less.

But Dering had also looked startled, and Yvoire had moved away from him. So maybe keeping his thoughts to himself, although harder said than done, was probably best. At least until he could get his ears to stop burning.

Whatever. It wasn’t as though anyone else was offering anything useful. They were just standing around twiddling their thumbs at this point. At least Rose and Dering were friendly with each other. And Yvoire seemed more comfortable hanging out with Amarynthos and Ephesus. Okay, that was fine. He would just help out if anyone needed it, as Amarynthos suggested, who was clearly better spoken than Reims.

Crisium, Page of the Moon

He really hoped it wasn't bugs. Or like their worst fears manifested to kill them. If they somehow ended up in shadow zoids, he'd be okay with that to be honest. No one ever remembered Zoids anymore and it saddened him and oh, right this is what his therapist called 'tangent distraction'.

Crisium's anxiety fluttered behind his rib cage like a very pissed off vulture. This was not like being on Cybelle and doing summer camp training exercises. This was real. There was actual Chaos behind those doors, Chaos Urania hadn't even been able to get to until now. What best way to fight something when you have no idea what you're facing!

Ironically, he never had this level an anxiety in DnD combat. Probably because it wasn't his ACTUAL LIFE ON THE LINE.

Breathe Crisium, you'll be fine. Do you see the amount of people here? This is a group effort. You can do this.

He could do this.

Probably.

Maybe.

Curse the triforce of courage he APPARENTLY CARRIED AROUND UGH.

Sailor Terebellum, Deep Space Senshi of Resonance

Another world, another senshi, another seed of Chaos to destroy. Tere was quiet, listening to Urania explain how she'd gotten to this point and and began to answer questions. Yellow eyes trained on the cracked door to the Observatory and to the Chaos that tried to claw its way out.

If she ever became strong enough to go after the Chaos in her world... would it be like this? Would she need to round up senshi and knights to fight the seed? Would they even be able to? Terebellum never figured out where the Chaos was before she'd been crystalized. Would she be able to figure it out now?

The muscles in her jaw tightened.

Did it even deserve to be saved?

She pulled her eyes from the door and refocused on the discussion around her. The abyss of depression shifted in her chest, her tail flicking to try to shake it off.

Time to save another world. She could stare into the abyss later.

Ngome, Page of Lysithea

Ngome wasn’t sure what to make of the swirling darkness that seeped out from the crack in the door of the Observatory. It was a malevolent force unlike anything she had encountered before, and she could feel the weight of its presence bearing down on her. Despite the unease creeping through her veins, Ngome knew that she had to confront this evil head-on. She was happy to see that she was not the only person there. There were other senshi’s and knights.

Eternal Tjilaki Senshi of Icebergs

Tjilaki looked around at the group of senshi, knights, and cats surrounding her, their faces a mixture of determination and fear. She knew the importance of their mission, the gravity of the situation they found themselves in. .

Rose, Page of Lysithea

Rose kept glancing between faces. The senshi who sneered at Reims earned a wide eyed look of confusion and disbelief. Rose took a single, protective step closer to Reims. She hadn’t thought his question was out of line. No one seemed to know what they should be doing, so who was to say destroying the Observatory wasn’t the best course of action? It would be a shame, especially if it was the last building standing, but if the choice ended up being between preserving the Observatory or the destruction of Chaos…

From what Rose had been told, destroying Chaos was the goal—not just here, but on Earth, too.

She put a hand on Reim’s arm, giving him a comforting squeeze.

Keeping her voice low so only those close to her could hear, Rose said, “Why is the angry one so yellow? Do you think they’re sick? That’s got to be the worst case of jaundice I’ve ever seen.”

-

Yvoire, Squire of Ganymede

Yvoire hesitated. He almost marched back to Reims in a defensive huff. (How was Reims supposed to know just how important the Observatory was if they hadn’t been told much of anything yet? He made a suggestion based on their experiences at the bank last year. If any of the others had better ones, they weren’t offering them. What exactly were they supposed to do then?)

But when he glanced toward Reims, Yvoire saw Rose sidling closer, so he stayed where he was and glared at the Observatory door. There were questions asked and encouragement given, but no further suggestions. What were they supposed to do? Punch the Chaos? Throw magic at it? Were they meant to go into the Observatory? What would happen to them with all that Chaos in there? What if it poisoned them? What if it choked the light out of them?

The way Ephesus described what Chaos had been like on Alastor, what it could become… Yvoire hoped it wouldn’t be like that here.

Super Sailor Perdita, Senshi of Plenty

“I can handle bugs if there are any,” Perdita reassured Connie.

Even through her lingering amusement, she kept a cautious watch over the door.

“Do you think it’s the last building standing because Chaos chose it to be, or do you think it’s nothing more than a coincidence?” she asked, raising her voice loud enough for Urania to hear. Perdita didn’t want to inundate the Senshi with too many questions at once, but she also didn’t want to accidentally overlook anything. “If this place was so important, it seems purposeful, but with Chaos being so unpredictable…”

She left the thought hanging and segued into a different question. “Assuming we have to go inside, what can we expect of the interior?”

Belmont, Squire of Jupiter

Belmont almost snickered with Connie’s concern over the bugs but he knew now wasn’t really the time to be making light of a situation. He’d have her back whether it was bugs or not. He liked her and Perdita so he felt like he was in good hands among them.

Perdita was clever, though. She was asking questions–good questions, that he found himself suddenly very invested in hearing the answer to. He was so caught up on the idea of fighting Chaos when he should have spent more time gathering information about what might help in the process.

But that was okay, one of the benefits of being in a group was that you didn’t have to come up with all the planning on your own.

Any comments he might have been inclined to share privately died on his tongue; now that Perdita had addressed Urania, he wasn't going to add to a distraction.

His own Wonder was a castle, but if there was more to that he didn't know. Senshi worlds seem so large and expansive, it was hard to wrap his mind around the fact that this was the last building standing. What force could destroy everything else? Or, what made this place so durable when all others had fallen?

It was peculiar, but he could make no claim to understand Chaos. If there was any thought behind barricading itself here, only Urania would know.

While he waited for an answer, he observed the outside of the building, trying to find any secret, hidden clues as to what else might make this place so special. Probably not the exterior, in any case. He wasn't surprised that he didn't find some magical solution painted for all to see.

He wanted to know how the Chaos got here--how it took root, how it spread, how it destroyed. He wanted to know if there were other worlds stricken in such a way. It was his first time hearing of another world trying to navigate some Chaos plague, but this was so unlike Earth that he wasn't even sure what fighting it meant.

Super Sailor Daphne

Daphne stood quietly, tense in a way that she couldn't quite hide. As she felt the Chaos ripple out from inside of the observatory, her tail puffed up behind her to twice its usual size.

She didn't know if she could do this.

Just the glimpse she had through the door of the observatory brought her back to the night that her own people had been so twisted by Chaos that they'd tried to kill her, before she'd been sealed away for her own safety. It reminded her of the night she'd spent on Alastor, months ago, when the Chaos had given her a glimpse of her father, before the destruction of that Chaos had taken him away from her again.

The second of those nights had broken her, even more than the first.

She was tired of Chaos trying to affect worlds, though, so she was here to snuff it out as best she could.

Page Almere

She was here on Urania again! The senshi was so nice, and also possibly some kind of star alien princess (although not a Princess, that was something different.) Almere had liked getting to help her out before, so she was happy to be back!

She'd brought more cookies with her in subspace, and it was a double batch this time. That way, even if the world ended up demanding an offering again, she'd be able to give it some cookies like before, but also still have some left over to share with everyone.

That observatory looked kind of scary, though. It looked like she might have to do something more than answer riddles and bake this time.

She wondered if there were going to be monsters. That would be okay. Maybe then she could prove to the others that she was getting stronger!

Sessrumnir, Knight of Jupiter

Sessrumnir sighed quietly, clearly being dramatic in response to Alastor’s nod to their son. Of course Sessrumnir knew Ephesus and Amarynthos and their friends would look after each other, but he knew how quickly things could go south.

He just hoped Ephesus was right, and that his heart wouldn’t be broken later.

The attention he wanted to give to the cracked door with the aura of Chaos pouring out was pulled to back to Alastor, and he pressed his lips thoughtfully together as he stared at him. There was a mix of exasperation and fondness in his expression, but eventually he sighed. Again. And nudged his elbow against Alastor’s.

“I’ll fish you out of any puddle you fall in. And I’ve got plenty of bandages for papercuts.”

They were there for a reason, and Sessrumnir had every intention of following through on helping Urania. They were going to get rid of Chaos from her world.

‘How was it that the people came to an end? Perhaps there is an answer to be found in what happened to everything else?’

It was as if, for a moment, time stopped for her as she was forced to confront the memory of what happened a thousand years ago.

Finally, she would tell the full story of the fall of Urania:

“I was the child of Etoile and Soliel, the queen and king of Urania. My world was a small asteroid in the belt that ran in the middle of the solar system. Its primary function was to collect ‘fallen stars’ or meteorites and it used these as its main source of power. These ‘stars’ were the dreams and desires of those who wish on shooting stars. While used by the Castle to sustain the king and queen and also used by the tribes of the Wilds, the most noted use of this power was the Observatory. This tower housed both a magical telescope and crystal which allowed for an uninterrupted view of the stars (by blocking out the rays of the sun) and a domed replica of the night sky’s stars in a sort of movable map. When I reached age 7, I was awoken by a Mauvian to be the world’s senshi. My world was a peaceful one. While it was ruled by the king and queen and the people of the world honored their senshi, when it was determined that I loved the stars above all else, they allowed me to travel off world. My ultimate desire was to travel the cosmos gathering information to update the map in the Observatory. To further this end, the Mauvian created a life-sized humanoid AI to contain the database that I would create of my new knowledge and would guard the Observatory in the my absence. When Chaos began to permeate the worlds during the fall of the Silver Millennium, I was away looking for ways to stop it, but, in doing so, I was not on my own world when it fell. Stars begin to fall that, instead of dreams and desires, had Chaos-influenced nightmares. My people collected these, just like they always had, and it drove them mad.”

She then looked to Alastor. He was the first and only person she has shared the next bit of information with. It explained why the Observatory was the only fully intact building on Urania.

“As I once told Alastor when I first came to Earth, Castle Ourania was the last to fall to Chaos. It housed a special ward that prevented space debris from colliding with this world and only allowed the fallen stars to fall here. That no longer exists. A thousand years of no protection meant few structures stand — except the Observatory. Which I’m beginning to think only survived because it houses the source of the Chaos on all of Urania.”

Urania then acknowledged the Mauvian.

“Without your paw, we would never have been able to open the way inside.”

Finally, she looked with her starry eyes to the one she had unfairly chastised before.

“If destroying the Observatory is the only way to defeat the Chaos within — then that is what we must do. I’m sorry that I became emotional. Your suggestion is not wrong. But, if it is even remotely possible, I want to purge the Chaos within without harming this place.”

At last, she perked up when a senshi asked about the interior.

“Yes! I can draw us a map of the inside.” She looked around, as if forgetting all else. “Does anyone have any paper?”

Super Sailor Selinur

Hearing the first part of things, about the collection of fallen starts which were dreams and wishes, it was all interesting and it made the cause of the problem rather predictable. He wasn't surprised when he heard the new fallen stars contained nightmares that were influenced by chaos. He could see how that would drive people mad, easily, chaos could do a lot. "So we can expect to face something that may tamper with our minds, what we see and think, perhaps even memories and distort things." He spoke while stepping forward with a calmness about himself. He'd faced similar on another planet in an effort to save it, which they had done. He'd seen someone from his past, the one who had trained him, and been told he should not be helping. This was not the way of his people nor what he should be focused on, but how else to help his own if not to help others first?

"At least we have an idea of what we might face and how this chaos manifests here." Because it would no doubt differ on each planet. It would attack them in different ways.

He did wonder why they needed to sustain the Queen and King with the energy of wishes and dreams...desires. Did they not sustain themselves as people normally did? He did wonder about that but it didn't matter at the moment, not really, they were no longer alive. While he wanted to know more, to ask more questions, it would come later.

"We might even have to deal with a bit of madness ourselves." Trailing off as he brushed his hair from his face, pulling a hairtie from subspace. He'd rather keep his hair from his face, thus tying it back, as he stood ready to face whatever would come.

"Once we step into the tower I'm guessing we'll be under mental attack...not physical." Some might do better with a physical fight where as others would shine bright against a mental attack and easily overcome it. "Let us hope we needn't destroy the last remaining building. It seems like it will be needed in the the continuation of this planet...once it is free of the chaos." So things would be ablke to go back to normal, as far as the collection of fallen stars.

A glance about to see who felt similar to him, who was making the same conclusions, he took his time looking over each person before finally focusing on Urania once more. "We'll defeat the chaos here." He was certain of that, the group here would see to that. Life here would begin again...slowly.
