Growth Solo - Apprentice Blacksmith - WC 564
After his sister left with her boyfriend, Rydan in tow he stood in the doorway of the forge and watched them disappear into the distance of the crowd for a minute or two. Once they were gone he turned and went inside, closing the door to the workshop gently with a small shake of his head. He hadn’t thought it would be his little sister who would start a family before the rest of them. Although, to be honest, she was the only one who seemed to show affection the easiest. The rest of them either avoided it or were extremely selective in who they showed it to. Dovian was one of the ones who simply avoided it. Of course he was also selective in who received it as well. It made him wonder if maybe he should re-evaluate that particular side of him.
Pushing those thoughts aside he glanced back at the door and gave a small smile. His baby sister was having twins soon by the look of her. So that meant he was going to have nieces or nephews soon. Their family would get bigger by two and as such those little ones deserved a gift. Just a simple thing. They wouldn’t be able to appreciate it until they were older anyways. But what to get them? Dovi thought about that for a long moment before he figured it out.
He could always spend money on the little ones at a later time but his downtime was fairly limited with demands for items. So he wanted to use his precious time to make something meaningful for the twins. If he was lucky then he could have them both done before the babies were born. He gave a self satisfied smile and nodded his head at himself in affirmation.
Immediately he turned his attention to the forge and walked over to the coals. He needed to stoke the fire and get it hot again. They were closed, thankfully, so he wouldn’t need to worry about a customer coming in to distract him but he could work on a private piece. He usually did anyways. Tonight he would be working on something new. Dovian figured he could try his hand at making either jewelry, if the babies were girls, or some kind or metal figurine, if the babies were boys. Heck he could even make the boys daggers. Give them their first weapons or something.
He paused at that thought then shook his head. “No, their first weapons should be given by the parents. I’ll leave that to Rydan to make for them. It will mean more.” So jewelry and toys it was! He moved over to the raw materials that sat in baskets and debated for a moment. Jewelry was easy enough to pick out. Silver. It was easily mold-able and looked good with just about anything. For the toys he moved over to the basket that held the tin. Again, easy to use. Since this would be a first for him he wanted to start easy and work his way up.
Dovian gathered the small amounts he’d need and moved toward the forge with them in hand. It was going to be a long night but this one he was looking forward to. Not only would he be testing out new skills but he’d be making something for the new babies.
( Dovian is excited for his sister and is getting ready to welcome his nieces or nephews into the world. It will also give him pause enough to maybe start looking for his special someone in the future. )
