Dovian was busy working at the forge, hammer hitting glowing metal. Tink. Tang. Tink. He'd been there for the past couple of days. Not wanting to go home mostly. It was empty there. Just his mother and she was always cooking. If he wanted to avoid being fat then he needed to keep busy.

After a while his work became nothing more than muscle memory. The constant bang of his hammer hitting the metal, the bounce that it did off the anvil, and the repositioning so he didn't fall off completely. He knew it all without even having to really focus.

With nothing else to do and her other siblings no where to be found, likely off doing whatever it was they did without her, Theanduri made her way to where her brother worked. The forge. It wasn't exactly the safest place for a little kid but in her eyes she was a big girl and so she deemed it okay.

When she got there she just watched, staying quiet so that her brother didn't kick her out and send her home right away. While she had no interest in doing what he did she did find his work to be somewhat fascinating. How one could take a big ugly lump of metal and turn it into something sharp or pretty. It at least deserved the right kind of admiration.

At first he was only vaguely aware of someone watching him, but that was normal. He had a mentor afterall. But when no criticism came, no correction in his technique, he figured it was someone else. So as the hammer came down he shifted his head ever so slightly to the side and glanced back to see who it was that was so interested in what he was doing. When he saw his little sister standing there he sighed, both outwardly and internally.

He looked back down at his work and after another three strikes with his tools he spoke up, still not looking at her. "What are you doing Thea? Mom will be worried if you get hurt." A subtle way of warning her of the dangers of being near the forge.

She was surprised when he spoke to her but she just smiled as sweetly as she could at him. "I'll be fine. Besides... I'm bored." She made a pouty face and clasped her hands behind her back as she watched him for a bit longer.

"When are you gonna be done? I want to go do something." If she could convince her brother to go out and play or maybe even just walk with her through town then she wouldn't be so bored. If she was really lucky then maybe Thea could even get him to buy her something. "You've been here every day, can't you take a break?"

There was a pause in the continuous beating of metal as he lifted the glowing end to inspect it. He was slowly getting it to flatten but it was losing the brightness in it's glow, it was losing heat. So Dovian moved and put it back in the fire among the coals. Relieved of that for the time being he turned to look at his sibling. "I need to finish this piece before I go do anything, Thea, and that's going to take hours." Lifting his gloved hand he wiped his forehead with the back of it, smearing sweat and soot across his dark skin.

"Can't you find Kiel? I'm sure he's taking a nap in the sun somewhere. He'll probably play with you." Dovian loved his little sister but he didn't want her to stay and be underfoot because she might get hurt. "Better yet, you should go home and see if mom needs help with the chores."

She whined. "Hours?" That meant she'd be bored for that much longer. As her big brother mentioned finding the other she made yet another face, this one clearly showing that she'd already tried that route. "I can't find him. I already looked." It wasn't uncommon, Kiel had hiding places that she didn't know about. Theanduri wasn't like Shura who knew just about everything there was to know about her twin.

Giving a huff she looked around at everything. The fire. The glowing metal inside it. The tools about the place. Even the anvil in front of her brother. What was the appeal with it all? How did he see a lump of metal as something more? In truth she didn't get it. "Well.. that needs to get hot right? That takes time. We can play a game until then!" She was hopeful that there was enough time to do at least a small game.

His head shook, his braided dreads moving about his shoulders. "No, Thea. I can't leave the forge." Even if he'd wanted to play a kid game he couldn't. Not in the middle of a project.

Turning back to look at the metal he noticed the color of the glow and reached over to flip the metal over and check the underside. He noticed a slight difference and left it like that so that the heat could be even across the board so to speak. Looking back at his sister he gave her a look that said he really didn't want her to get into things. "If you're not going to go home or go find one of the others then go sit down. There's a lot of things in here that you can get hurt on."

An exaggerated groan left her as she was told to sit down. That was no fun either! Thea hung her head and stared at the floor for a moment. When had her big brother become so boring?

When she looked back up she noticed something interesting. A little thing that had been crafted. It caught her attention and she moved toward it. Of course that also brought her close to the fires and the heat that poured out from it. "What's that?" Ignoring the flames and the popping embers she reached for it.

He noticed his sister getting close to the fire and swore. "Nerad's scales! Thea! The fire is like three feet from you!" Dovian scooped his sister up and moved her away from it.

With a huff he'd set her down and look her over to make sure she wasn't burned then give her his best stern look. How did his mother do this without having her hair turn grey!? Dovian was under no delusions that his sister would listen to him and stay away from the fire so he reached over and grabbed a large apron. It was thick and made from leather so it would provide plenty of protection. Draping it over her he made sure to secure it in the back by tying it in place. "If you're going to be here then you wear this and don't touch anything."

When she was scooped up she was surprised but giggled and clung to her brother. After being sat back down she smiled up at him. "Sorry, I just wanted to see what it was." She pointed at the object again. Now that she could see it better she noticed it was a pair of unfinished gauntlets.

As she was fitted into an apron she grinned at her brother. She'd won! He wasn't kicking her out and sending her home. So that meant she could spend time with him even while he was working. "Okay. I won't touch anything."

Knowing now that she just wanted to see something he turned his head to look at what it was. Dovian looked at the gauntlets for a second before moving over to grab them. He'd stopped working on them some time ago but they remained unfinished. "Here.." Moving back over to his little sister he handed the pair over to her. "It's a pair I was working on a while ago. I just never finished them. Couldn't figure out what they were missing." After she took them his hand would go to the top of her head and ruffle her hair. "Maybe you can figure out what it is." With a smile he gave her a wink to hopefully encourage her to really think and therefore stay still.

With the gauntlets in hand she turned them this way and that. The metal glinted in certain spots but in others it was dull, a clear sign that it wasn't a finished product. Theanduri flipped them over and around and really looked. "Who are they for?" She didn't think they were for Shura since she already had a pair. And they didn't have anyone else in the family that wanted to use their fists. Everyone else had sharp weapons. Well.. if they were old enough anyways.

"Maybe if you know who they are for then you can figure out what they need." Thea looked at her brother then to see if he had someone in mind or not.

"They aren't for anyone in particular." Dovian shrugged his shoulders then moved back over to the fire.

Figuring that his sister would be occupied for at least a little bit he checked on the metal he'd been working. Seeing the brighter glow he grabbed his tools and got the piece out. When he shifted over to the anvil he made sure that his sister was well away from him before he started up with the hammering. The lift of his arm and the downswing came naturally to him once again. The loud clang started up in rhythm but he kept one eye on his sibling to make sure she didn't stray too close.

As her brother got back to work she continued to look at the gauntlets. One hand stroked over the pitted metal while the other held them. Thea, dressed in an over sized apron, moved back so she could sit on a small block of wood and be out of the way.

"What about a gem?" She asked curiously. "Maybe it needs something to make it look pretty?" Thea wasn't really all that into gems and jewels. At least, not yet. She found them pretty and shiny but had no rel desire for them. Much like her own mother.

He didn't pause in his work when his little sister spoke, instead he gave a small nod of his head. "Maybe. Not sure what kind." Dovian spoke between bangs so that his words weren't lost in the noise.

He flipped the metal over and started to hammer down once more. He tried to remember the count so that each side got the same amount of attention. It didn't need to be perfect but he liked to try. "Some people don't like showy stuff though." He glanced toward Thea to make sure she was still there and that her attention wasn't on something that was dangerous.
