Aedus frowned as he lost sight of Kappa and Niamh in the darkness he didn't like that one bit. He hadn't moved far from the math classroom but suddenly he couldn't see anyone. Freaking noise and darkness must have messed with his head. He couldn't believe he was letting stupid little things throw his game off. He had to be top of his game so he could protect those counting on him. Here he was shivering in the darkness like a little freshling. Like the poor kid that was out there somewhere who needed them to not be afraid. Aedus took a deep breath to regain his focus.

As Ruby moved forward in the hallways with Chunli, she couldn't help but feel that same emotion of dread creep up on her. They were so empty. When she had first started attending the Academy, just on the verge of becoming a junior, she remembered hearing stories about the grounds being haunted. She was pretty sure every school had those rumors, but right now, in the moment... anything could be lurking up the bend.

And then that noise. That horrible noise. It sounded like the voice of the woman who had been her caretaker at the orphanage. Or maybe her mother, in some distant memory, if she had any. As Chunli went to investigate, Ruby stayed back. She wanted to run, wanted to bolt. In fact, she had made it a few steps away from the door when Chunli poked her head back out. Guess we missed one! "What?" Ruby said, feeling the dread leak from her bones. How could she have been so silly? "It was only a window, huh?" she said, feeling relief, and embarrassment at her own silliness.

Still shaking off her embarrassing encounter with the window, Ruby grinned and responded to Chunli. She was actually really enjoying her time with the Chimera, despite being in a search party for a missing child. "Part of me feels like this is still some kind of elaborate prank." But Chunli was right, about the survivors who were sick, now. With bite wounds. They were facing something that none of them were prepared for. Ruby just really hoped the Academy would be prepared for it. At the end of the day, Ava would protect them, right? Anabelle had always looked out for them, so what would be so different about tonight? Horrific things happened to other people. It wasn't like Ruby hadn't already had a hard time in her life, but she had always felt she was past that. At the Academy, you were able to live a posh life. You were fed, given a bed, a roof over your head. Sure, she had kind of taken it for granted, but... that didn't mean she wanted it taken away.

"If it's dangerous, I'll handle it for you," Ruby said, giving Chunli a wink and brandishing her bat. Even though anxiety had already won out on her once tonight, it wouldn't be happening again! Even though she wasn't quite ready to accept the fact that something awful was about to happen, she wanted to protect the people she had met tonight. Even though Ruby hadn't been too keen on making friends before today, she was finding herself fonder and fonder of the people she was surrounded by. "At least, I hope I can handle it. I'm sure the Academy is safe for us."

Emerging from the closet, Niamh glanced up and down the hall. She realized that she'd wandered off from her friends. ... Perhaps not her best plan. But the noise had required investigation! What if it had been the missing Freshling? She wrapped her arms around herself, looking up and down.

"Aedus? Kappa?" Her voice was quiet. It didn't seem wise to shout. She started to wander back towards the math room. Hopefully they hadn't wandered like she had.

Liam debated which direction they should go when they did find stairs. Up or down? There didn't seem to be anyone here, but these were probably only a fraction of the dorms in this school. Probably not even on this floor, but they'd been up here for a while and Liam was pretty sure they'd hit a dead end for now. The search parties weren't particularly organized, just stay in groups and spread out as much as possible to cover as much ground as they could. There were probably more people looking on the ground floor. So on one hand, more people around and more potential safety. On the other hand, if there were that many people and they hadn't found anything yet chances were the kid wasn't there. Someone would have to search the upper floors at some point. And as soon as the kid was found, the sooner they could all get to a safer spot.

"I donno about you, but I'm hanging onto this hammer." Kingston said to Vanna as they finished boarding up the window. "And this plant with the nail in it. You know... just in case." It made sense to have at least SOMETHING to defend ones self with. Sure claws and fangs were one thing, but he kind of wanted to be able to keep anything dangerous at a distance.

He followed after Eilwen when she went into a room, checking the closet for signs of a little one. No one there. The next room was also empty. He liked the idea Eilwen had about leaving the doors open to mark which ones they'd checked. He glanced over his shoulder to look at Coco as he was about to enter another room.

"How are you holding up, Coco?" He knew she didn't like being out here, and he was concerned for his new friend.
