Personality: Vermina takes very seriously her responsibility to help and to do the right thing, basing her ideas on traditions and laws and rules, holding the utmost respect for the Alkidike matriarchy. She uses her roles to keep things clear, stable and organized for everyone. She is the servant type of personality who enjoys making sure that those close to her, or really anyone in the tribes, are well cared for.
Vermina seeks harmony and cares very much about other people’s feelings. She tends to tread carefully with her words, being careful not to offend or hurt those around her. She works well with others, and always seeks win-win situations in conflicts. She likes a stable and organized environment, keeping her home and work space clean and organized. She’s the stereotypical neighbor everyone wants; always with a pleasant smile and attentive ears. Nothing warms her heart more than seeing her friends smile while doing something they all enjoy. Despite her desire for order, or because of it, Vermina is quite adaptable to surroundings to keep things flowing in a positive manner.
Vermina still has some focus on her social status, but it is not the preoccupation that it used to be. Being someone who just wants to be liked and appreciated, she can become easily upset if someone criticizes her. She does best when she has positive reinforcement to know she’s doing a good job. The tendency to put others before herself remains, but she is learning how to prioritize and make herself happy as well.

Starting History:
As a youngling, Vermina lived in a sea of prejudice. Her mother, Pil, was of the mindset that the Alkidikes were the superior race, and should be the master race, and made her view well known. Pil was stubborn and passionate, and insisted on teaching her daughter those very ideals. Despite Pil’s pressure, Vermina never understood the notion. Yes, Alkidikes were superior, but that was no reason to outright hate the other races, right? It created a tense home environment, with the impassioned Pil trying to break through her daughter’s unseemly tolerant attitude.
When unrest reached its peak on Chibale and in Jauhar, Pil rose with her sisters to fight the earthlings. Though she wanted her daughter to come along to see the fight, she knew the youngling was not ready, and she reluctantly left young Vermina in the care of her sister, Pul. When news of the exile reached Chibale, Vermina begged to follow. She wanted to be with her mother! Pul wouldn’t hear of it though, knowing that her youngling niece was nothing like Pil, and would surely suffer if left in the hands of the extremist colony. Besides.. there was no guarantee that Pil was even still alive to be one of the exiles.
After a time, Vermina took her grief and turned it into action. After all, she was not the only one whose mother had gone to never return. There were others who needed care as well. She wasn’t old enough to care for anyone alone, but she had the desire to help. She became a filler of sorts, doing nearly anything that needed doing in the background. Side dishes at meals, cleaning laundry, stitching clothes... The world was chaotic after losing so many sisters, and she wanted to help bring order. Vermina opened up to the world in her own way, being as supportive and reliable and understanding as she could, finding herself fully supported by her aunt. After all, her mother had been stubborn and prideful.. and was now gone. Though she grieved, Vermina does not hold the results of the war against the earthlings. After all, Pil has always talked about striking first; surely the earthlings were only defending themselves... If she were to meet an earthling, she might ask why exile instead of simply sending the women home, but that was unlikely to happen anytime soon. Expanding ground was no drive of hers. Her place was in Chibale. Helping what they did have to flourish.. that was what she wanted.
Vermina still lives with her aunt today, and they work together to help keep the community strong. Sometimes, Vermina does think about her mother in more than just memories... Maybe she would go to Yeal to find out if her mother was alive? If anything, the exile had probably only made her mother and the others angrier though, making a visit a rather unsavory idea for the young prentice. She was loyal to her mother, of course, but there was nothing she could do now, for the time being.

With one decision, Vermina’s entire world was getting ready to change. It was complicated to look at from the eyes of her younger self, but now she could see that it was all very simple. It was not about doing everything for others. Working for the benefit of the community was still important, absolutely, but she was allowed to consider her own wants and needs. When she did that, the world opened up to her.
She opened up to love. Love had always been around her, but this was that special intimacy that brought about a bond like no other. The idea of gaining Danika’s love had once been a dream that she had not even bothered dreaming! When had she gotten brave enough to take such a risk with her heart?
Not only a risk with her heart, but a risk for the life she had known for so long was tied into that as well.
As the mystic, Danika was expected to lead. Danika was going to be sent to Yeal to assist the distant Elarian cousins, and then to Chiume to assist with the new tree growing there. It was all such a spectacular set up of adventures. Vermina had never thought she would be part of something of such grandeur.
Chibale was her home. Heck, she was not even fond of going to Jauhar! Leaving the island for any period of time had always been a less than desirable task. Vermina tended to do whatever she could to remain in the safety of the sisterhood under Aisha’s direct watch. When Danika had said that the elders would be sending her away though, Vermina had surprised herself by asking to go without any hesitation. She just wanted to be by Danika’s side.
A good portion of the next morning had been spent wondering if she had acted rashly. Her aunt had been delighted to hear about the new relationship, but far less so about the new travel plans, making Vermina doubt a little. Was her duty not to Chibale? She didn’t have the mystic’s role, so there was not actually a need for her to go. She could just stay and wait for Danika to return.
Younger Vermina spoke up and said it was a better idea to stay, but Vermina Now had gone to the beach to think. Vermina now had jumped into the water and let the soothing rush of the ocean take Younger Vermina away with the currents. Vermina Now… Vermina knew what she wanted, and she was going to stand firm. No, she was not going to wait. She was able to travel, so she would! With Danika!
Besides… there would probably never be an opportunity like this again to make a direct effort to find out her mother’s fate. The exiles that had come to Jauhar the last time, during the dretch attack, had been too intimidating to approach. She had spent so many years wondering if her mother was alive or dead, and afraid to find out the answer.
Vermina could not deny that the thought of going to Yeal was a little frightening, and that going all the way to Chiume was daunting. Love was going to keep her strong though. She was going to keep herself strong.
She knew that she could do it all.
(( Word count: 556 ))
Conclusion: Vermina has always been a homebody with her vision more on helping her sisters than doing anything for herself. Worrying about what others thought kept her from experiencing much of life. She has grown to see that she can put herself first; and when she does that, she finds herself ready to truly experience what the ever-expanding world has to offer her.
