Verosh 1

Achashverosh was still adjusting to life in Jahaur. It was much darker with the giant trees that loomed overhead like guards against the sunlight and skies and while he was slightly displeased due to how different it was from the open feeling that Sauti had Verosh wasn't hateful of it. It was just something strange he would have to adjust to just as he had to adjust to this strangely warm rain that poured from the skies and made his skin crawl. The hybrid's gaze narrowed with disdain as he flicked one said droplet from his dreads and shook his head to clear whatever water had attempted to cling there after the shower had ceased. This was his homeland, the land that his mother had told him all about while he was a youngling growing up in Sauti. He had waited years to come here, years of training to be hardy enough to survive in these jungles, hardy enough to stand evenly with pure bloods who were constantly surprised by how the hybrid could evenly spar with them if not beat them in training sessions. Not that he opted to train with others often save for when his mother and her relatives pressured him to go and show off his skills, a show of pride for those who supported his mother's love for a wind earthling.

Said wind earthling who had sent him to go gathering today. Verosh rolled his eyes towards the pieces of sky that he could see. Out of all things his super petite earthling father was requesting him to gather herbs to help with his healing shop. For those Alkidikes who weren't too stubborn to get assistance from an earthling they found his father to be a very skilled healer and then there were those Shifters who came also seeking aid from Mio. Since his father had a bad leg it was best for Verosh to gather herbs while his mother hunted with her sisters. And though it was a logical request, one necessary for their survival Verosh still was ever so slightly bitter that he wasn't hunting alongside of his mother. Who would opt for gathering things when they could be out with the hunters after all?

"He better prepare the best stew of his life for us tonight." Verosh muttered under his breath as he ungraciously sank to his knees and began tugging at roots growing in a tangle of bushes. While he appeared to be too vain to learn about his father's trade the boy had actually paid close attention to everything that Mio needed for his work. Healing roots like these were an easy pick for him and once he finished with them he did notice something else. While it wasn't exactly on his father's request Verosh knew that Mio and his mother both enjoyed those berries growing nearby, perhaps wasting a few moments for something out of the way wouldn't harm him too badly. That decided the hybrid shifted so that he could crouch under a low hanging vine and make his way to the foliage with the purple and red dotted berries.

Vermina 1

How was this possibly good for her general character?!

Vermina was miserable and scared as she stood on the shore of Jauhar, her precious Chibale hidden by the curtains of rain falling from the sky. Aunt Pul had insisted on sending her for a special item to gather that grew in Jauhar, but not Chibale. Being one of the more consistent gatherers of the clan, Mina had been an easy choice to send off. She would surely pick only the best for the sisters and would bring them back safely and promptly.

Mina had a different frame of mind. Leaving her comfortable island had never once been on Mina’s bucket list. She could have been perfectly content to never pass the waters between lands! Despite Pul’s insistence that Jauhar was just as much theirs as Chibale was, Mina remained loath to leave. There were earthlings in Jauhar! And strange creatures that she had never encountered! It wasn’t Chibale, and that made it unsavory.

Yet, here she was now... trapped thanks to the rain. She desperately wanted to be back on Chibale, but the heavy rain had the ferry docked for now. Even on a clear day, Mina would not have been able to swim the length. Besides... she had to protect the berries she had collected. With the basket covered and tucked away, Mina tried to think of better things. This was for the good of her sisters! They would greatly enjoy the berries! Perhaps she would make something special for the mystics to show her trip had not gotten her killed!

That made her think of Danika.. the mystic who walked in the rain... Taking a deep breath, Mina stepped out from her cover to let the rain run over her body. Without worrying about who might be watching or judging... it really was a pleasant sensation.

Verosh 2

Ugh why had it decided to start raining again? Verosh wasn't completely surprised to be honest considering how the place always seemed to rain. At least it wasn't too cold so he could sit there and continue to shift through berries until his basket was nearly full. Who gave a warrior a basket anyways? It made him feel like the wind girls he had seen on occasion as a youngling living with his parents in Sauti. Always giggling and acting so frail and always carrying a basket on their arms like....well like how he was currently carrying his own. Verosh rolled his eyes before plucking some more berries and tossing them into the basket. His father was damn lucky that he loved him so dearly - not that the man would ever say that openly, but still it was a truth. He just hoped it kept quiet so that he wouldn't have to bother with anyone. He had enough trouble since meeting fishboy the other day. The thought made him snort before he finally tossed a few more berries into the basket and prepared to stand.

Though as he rustled the bushes and stood finally Verosh realized that he wasn't alone. Standing before him in the rains, just standing there like some crazed woman, was a Sister who was just letting the rains run over her body. Even though he was accustomed to the bare clothing of the Alkidikes it still took him by surprise to see how the rains soaked the material and accented features of the other Sister's body. It was both a shameful feeling and a frustrating one to see how different he was - so much for being in Aisha's image. His antenna flicked with distaste before he turned his gaze away with a loud cough, "You'll catch cold, Sister." He commented loudly before glancing back towards her, "Or are you someone who normally communicates with the rain in such a fashion?" Ugh, not that it was his business what the stranger did but still he had been staring so it was only the proper response to speak rather than turning away like some creeper. That much his father had instructed him on and his mother would want him to try and be friendlier with other Alkidikes despite how standoffish some could be to him. If anything finding someone who though little of him was a delight since he could destroy them in a spar later. Though Verosh was curious - who was this Sister? Was she from Chibale? Since coming back his mother had only rarely brought him to the island since she still preferred to live in the village that was near the earthlings as it made his father's life easier. Back there he would recognize most Sisters, but this girl...she was new. Something that didn't bother him since he doubted this would be a long encounter as it was and at this point it was just politeness to show that he noticed her existence.

It wasn’t quite as nice as the rain on Chibale, but nothing was as nice as it was on Chibale... Still, Mina did find a small smile rising on her lips. Though the latest downpour was heavy, it was warm and cleansing like a bath.. without the soap. Perhaps the mystic really was onto something..?

When the voice made someone else’s presence known though, Mina jumped with a terrified gasp and yanked the blade from the sheath at her hip. A basic knife, and Pul had insisted it wouldn’t be needed! Well, that went to show- sister? Eyes finally landing on the hybrid, her black eyes narrowed sharply. What in Aisha’s name-?! Oh.... a hybrid. One that looked as far from an Alkidike as one possibly could! “The rains are warm. There is no cold to catch,” she huffed, completely forgetting that she had once issued the same warning to another sister in the rain... She looked around to see if anyone else lurked, but it seemed to only be the hybrid. Frankly.. after the terrible incident with the dretch, and now that some time had passed, Mina found little to be truly scary once she decided it wasn’t a dretch. The stranger had simply startled her!

“You should be more concerned for yourself. With so little of our sisters apparent in you, your body will surely succumb to some sort of ill.” She spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, though a hint of snobbishness did show. This sister was more earthling than Alkidike! “They say that earthling women are fragile, you know.” Of course, she couldn’t tell and never considered that the one before her was anything but female!

Verosh 3

Oh how adorable a reaction. Verosh found a smirk flitting across his features as the Alkidike pulled a knife out. Was it so startling that someone else would be out here? One would assume that the Sister had never left Chibale with how jumpy she was then again as he thought about things it wasn't the most impossible reaction. The appearance of the damned Dretch had made the situation in all of the countries a bit more tense, but Verosh was not one to startle so easily and seeing someone who was soon to act so haughty towards him being so skittish was slightly...amusing if not frustrating. He could only shake his head, "I won't argue with you but if you do come down with a cold then at least I warned you." He quipped back with a shrug of his shoulders.

"Oh?" Verosh let out a 'pfft' at her reaction, "It's thankful that Aisha did not place me in an earthling woman's body then." He crossed his arms, a faintest flicker of amusement crossing his features despite his growing annoyance, "Then again I doubt a sheltered apprentice like you, Sister, has seen a male earthling before. They're still earthlings but are still far stronger than these fragile earthling women you speak of." The hybrid shook his head, his dreads bouncing about his features, "And I was raised by a great warrior of a Sister who cared not what form I was born into as she instilled the blood of Aisha and a warrior's spirit in me. Do not underestimate those who you know nothing of, Sister." He emphasized each word as he stared her down with pride. It wasn't the first time he had been insulted due to his very earthling based appearance, but his build was that of an Alkidike's body. He stood taller than any earthling and was quickly growing to the tallest of heights for any Sister while his body rippled with muscles taunt from many years of training - something that was obviously apparent the more that the rain soaked his clothing which was slowly melding to his skin.

"As it is you seemed rather startled. Were you expecting trouble out here of all places?" He tilted his head as he studied her, "Shame that you don't have the best of weapons to guard yourself yet - but worry not if there were danger I would be here now as well to defend you." His gaze was wry as he shrugged and the spear on his back shifted with the movement, a silent yet obvious statement at how he was better equipped despite how 'fragile' the other Alkidike wished to deem him.

Vermina 3

Not in an earthling woman’s body? Not an earthling woman’s body... It took a long moment for the words to sink in. When they did, Mina’s eyes widened cheeks brightened with shock as she took a step back. A male! Oh, males were so gross. ..At least, that’s what she had heard... Yet, she couldn’t help the disgust being tainted by awe as the male spoke. He didn’t seem much older than herself, but he clearly had been trained well and thoroughly. Any trained warrior would approve of the musculature the hybrid flaunted. Despite her firm build, compared to him, Mina felt downright soft... If this male truly was a follower of Aisha, raised to be by his mother... “If you were truly raised with Aisha’s lessons and heart, then there is little doubt to the potential you have.”

Shoving the blade back into its sheath, Mina snorted and crossed her arms, trying her best to not look like she was impressed. Well, maybe she could show it just a little... “One must be ready at all times for trouble,” she huffed. Her resolve shrank the tiniest bit. “Even on Chibale,” she said softly. Brow rising at the offer of protection, Mina just stared for a moment. A son of Aisha... Weird. “I was not meant to remain here for so long,” she finally replied. “It is a mission to gather, nothing more. If it was not for this rain, I would already be back on Chibale.”

A quiet snort left him in amusement at the reaction of the Sister. What an innocent creature if she had been so sheltered as to not see a man yet. Out of all the earthling traits that bothered Achashverosh the most it was one that he was accepting of. He was actually quite content having such a solid form, it was the one good product of mixing an Alkidike's height with the broad shoulders of an earthling man. He did find an eyebrow rising in surprise at her sudden complement, "I'm glad that you can accept that." He managed, his smugness actually diluted by shock for once. Even if others did agree they were loathe to do so but this Sister had shifted so quickly from insulting to accepting him? Or was she looking down on him and just appeasing him in the moment? Was there some trick to her words? Verosh's lips barely shifted downwards in the slightest of frowns in his confusion before her next movements seemingly were more in line with those he had experienced before.

"Ah, I see." Verosh smirked as she shifted her position, "Then surely there can't be too much trouble." His gaze did darken at the mention of trouble. It was true now that things had shifted to some degree to cause even Chibale alarm. Before his mother had always spoken of how protected the island of Sisters was, but now nothing was sacred. Not to the damned dretch who did as they pleased, "Either way I've been gathering in this area as well and it surely doesn't hurt for us to watch each other's backs?" Amusement glittered in his sky blue gaze once more, "At least I can guarantee once the rains are gone that you'll be safely back to your Chibale." So it was more like she would benefit from his presence since he was so confident in his abilities - a trait he enjoyed showing off to Sisters to fluster them. Who wanted to admit a hybrid could stand on par after all?

Vermina 4

’I’m glad that you can accept that.’

Was she- not she- was he really? Perhaps it was true that he was dedicated to Aisha’s ways. Despite being male... “It is not up to me to turn away those Aisha has deemed worthy of her strength,” she murmured softly, avoiding looking at him. Mina could feel the conflict within herself. Why would Aisha allow the proud Alk race to blend with the earthlings? There had to be a reason! Perhaps she would request a moment of the mystic’s time to discuss the conundrum... Once she was back on Chibale. Until then, she was stuck here.

Can’t be too much... This male really saw her as so weak? “I would not have been sent here alone if I could not handle myself,” she growled. “Be that as it may.. I will not turn down the assistance of a fellow si- of a... a.. son.. of Aisha.” Oh, that word tumbled from her tongue like a ton of bricks!

The rain seemed to relent the tiniest bit, though it continued to pour. Hopefully, that meant it would end soon. With the surprise arrival, the rain no longer seemed a comfortable place to stand. Hugging herself, she retreated to the cover of the wood’s edge near her basket, pulling a berry out for herself to chew on while waiting.

Verosh 5

Verosh raised a brow in amusement but honestly he was feeling a lot of gratitude for the other Alkidike. It was...pleasant to find a Sister who wouldn't turn her nose up at him for being such an obvious hybrid. The Great Mother surely was thinking to play a good prank with his creation else why would she have made him resemble more of his earthling heritage so? His gaze slanted down towards his hands and the man clenched his fist thoughtfully before glancing back up towards the other Sister, "True." He replied with a small smile - oh she was definitely defensive - before he finally thought to save her from her awkwardness, "Verosh, if you wish to have something to call me then Verosh is one of my names." After speaking he took one last glance around before moving forward to follow the Alkidike towards the shelter given by the trees, "What particular things are you gathering here? I know certain herbs that work best in poultices grow by the roots of the trees along these shores, but you seem to be gathering something else?"

Vermina 5

Verosh.. It was certainly better than calling him a son of Aisha all the time, and most certainly better than attempting the word ‘brother’ that she had heard before. She just.. was not ready for that step yet. At least he didn’t try to argue her strength in return. Every one of Aisha’s children was born to be strong and capable, so of course she had her strength as well! Perhaps she should try training a little more often when she got back home..?

“My name is Vermina,” she replied, pulling out another berry. She looked up at the question of her mission and found herself holding up the berry she had just taken out. “I was sent to collect these. For some reason, they do not grow on the island itself, so gatherers are sent to collect them on occasion. The bushes grow a bit further down the shoreline… I just had it under the tree to protect it from the rains.”

Verosh 6

"Vermina." Repeated Verosh quietly under his breath as if writing the name to memory. So that was the name of this particular Sister. His sky blue gaze studied her a moment longer before he glanced away with a frown towards the rains, "It seems that Jahaur is full of never ending rain." He commented, "Sauti was not like this but it was much colder at times." The hybrid shifted before glancing towards Vermina, "I see. It appears that our goals are slightly similar so I can gather near you. My...father enjoys berries like that so if it's acceptable I could pick a few to take home as well."

Vermina 6

Vermina found a tiny smile trying to rise. It really had been quite pleasant to stand in the rain... "Some of these rains made it to Chibale, but not often to this extent," she murmured, sticking out a foot to let the rain hit it. Thank the goddess that it wasn't a cold rain!

With the request to pick the same berries, Vermina looked over with surprise. To be shown respect like that... "Father," she murmured slowly, briefly confused by the word. Oh! "That is the male counterpart to the mother in earthling bree-..parents, correct?" she asked. She had found out that hybrids did not like their earthling parents being called breeders.. It was time to let that title go. While she wasn't too fond of the idea of sharing the berries with a pure earthling... "If you have access, and the berries do not make this father ill, it must be that you are able to pick them as you wish," she said. "They grow here to test those of us on Chibale, but are available to those here without concern."

Verosh 7

"Thank Aisha." Replied Verosh quietly with wry amusement, "I didn't come here to learn how to swim everywhere after all." Not that he disliked the rain that badly but it was something to adjust towards, "I suppose the snows don't come all the way out here as well." He murmured as an additional thought. Now that they were acknowledging the weather differences the boy could truly admit that he was in a new world. So far he found it impressive, but there would be things that he missed such as the snows and the cliffs that he often enjoyed climbing so that he could glance down at the world below. Such things were trivial, however, when compared to the life of the warrior that his mother often romanticized during his youngling years.

His lips curled upwards ever so slightly as he nodded, "You're catching on, Sister." Teased Verosh as he glanced away from the rains to study her, "But yes 'father' is the word for the male earthlings who take up parenthood. Earthlings actually can decide to pursue healing as a career and he is one that chose to do so. He enjoys using the berries in tonics for young Alkidikes and others who are in need of his services." His brilliant blue gaze lit up tauntingly as he continued to watch for her reaction, "Shocking to hear, I know, but he does indeed help treat some of the warriors who are willing to let an earthling tend to their injuries. If not for him then my own mother would have been dead ages ago at the claws of ferocious beasts." The apprentice shrugged his shoulders, "But that is a story I suppose for another time as it seems the rains may be lighting up a bit now, yes? So we should go and gather berries before the weather worsens again." It appeared it was just one of those days where the rains would continued to come down as they pleased rather than simply clearing up and going away.

Vermina 7

Vermina’s head cocked slightly. “Snows? Oh, the white rain! No, I have never seen it, myself.” From the descriptions she had heard, snow might be pretty to see, but not so pleasant to experience. Cold and sticky and cold and blazing white… and cold… No. As with everything else in life, she was content with what was on and near Chibale.

A male calling her sister…. Weeeeeeeeeeeeird! That was as hard to hear as it was to think of! But, at least she had a couple of her facts right about the earthling lives. Indeed, her eyes did widen a slight bit at the mention of earthings being healers. She knew they had health workers, but it still amazed her that some of them could comprehend the complex system of health; and now to hear of someone who actually knew one of them! She was about to ask more, but even she could hear the growing snark in Verosh’s voice, making her clam shut again. “Your mother is fortunate,” she muttered shortly as she stood, basket in hand. She was already marching toward where the berries were when she caught herself. We? Why was she going with him again? ..At the least, she could gather a few more berries to make up for those she had eaten. “They are not far..”

His antenna flicked in amusement at snow being deemed the 'white rain' but Verosh held his tongue against any witty remark, "Perhaps one day if you ever ventured out of Jahaur you may. It is cold to the touch though and far from the warmth that our rains typically have." He smiled though, a rare moment of blissful reminiscent showing through, "You can create things out of it and younglings enjoy laying down in it to create winged creatures with their arms." He shook his head at the memories of how his own father tried to introduce both him and his mother to the art of playing in the snow, "The best are the fights that can be had with the snow clumped into a ball and thrown at each other. It made for good training days."

Ugh why had he rambled so? The faintest hint of a flush dared to trace and grace his cheeks but the man glanced away so that she couldn't see it, "Ah, she is." He turned and was surprised to see that she had wandered a bit away. Perhaps he shouldn't have been so quick to bristle as he spoke of his earthling father? Verosh clenched his fists in frustration before moving forward, "Well should anyone need assistance I know some of his arts and he is near." He commented as he caught up to her, "I apologize I'm just accustomed to negative reactions when it comes to offering an earthling healer to warriors." The rarest word 'apologize' slipped from his lips before he brushed past to head towards the bushes, "I see them." He replied quietly as he moved forward the last few feet and crouched so that he could begin plucking at the berries.
