ASPIRATIONS/PERSONALITY/BIO
Aspirations: To create his own 'salvage team' made up of those who will be as close to him as family.
Personality: Kaimi is a very hard working young man, one that applies himself wholly to any venture that he puts his mind to. He is the sort that won't let his age define him or else he won't be able to get the things that he wants out of life. He is the sort that seemed to have endless energy that allowed him to run around all day without stopping and that time is filled with all manner of different tasks and chores that he's assigned to himself.
At times Kaimi can get deep into what he's doing to the point that he ends up going a little further out then he should or he will dare to do something that he shouldn't. All in the name of progress but given his age he is a little naive about the consequences. It's something that he will be able to hone with time though, which will help to keep him from getting in over his head too much.
Kaimi is the 'waste not, want not' sort of person so he will often be seen with clothing that he has repaired a time or two so that he can continue to wear it. Once he out grows something, if it's still in decent condition he will trade it for something else and if not he will take it apart for its component pieces and make it into something new. He's not one to be too worried about his looks or about the looks of things that he wears. He can have fancy things in the future once he's old enough to venture further to salvage things from further away or trade with the other tribe now that the world is opening up. For the time being he is accumulating things that will help his future look brighter!
He sees the chance of meeting with the Kaha'iko as an opportunity to possibly trade with them as well, once he is older at least. At the same time he is a little on the apprehensive side due to some of the rumors that are going around about them. There is a part of him that wants to believe that they aren't like what the rumors say due to how difficult it might make trading with them, but he will cross that bridge when he comes upon it. He really hopes that what he's heard isn't the case though because those that are lazy, those that don't work for what they want, are the sort that Kaimi doesn't really like. Due to how motivated he is himself he just doesn't understand those that don't work just as hard for what they want, something that doesn't apply only to the Kaha'iko either.
Due to how hard he works at everything Kaimi is looking for others that are of a like mind to him. It's those sorts that he will be closest to and likely invite to his 'salvage team' once he is older and sets the group up. He wants to spend his time with those sorts and if he does come across those who are more on the lazy side he will do his best to motivate them to the best of his ability. He doesn't want to give up on someone straight away after all... though if they show themselves to be stubbornly lazy then he will likely leave them behind so he can go about his business. He has far too much to do each given day to be bothered with such things. Conflict with others just isn't something that Kaimi wants to get caught up in seeing it as a complete waste of time, time that could be better spent on far more important things.
Bio: Kaimi is for the most part on his own in the world despite his young age. He has an older brother that he lives with but the other Menehune is often busy with his own life and problems leaving the little fish to go about his own life. After their mother passed away his older brother took them in place of a father that he never knew. Their mother was the sort that was always energetic and on the mood, not one to settle down in one place, and not with one man either. The two brothers share the same mother but have different fathers, neither of which seemed to play a bit role in either child's life. Instead they were just passing flings that their mother had that resulted in them.
If Kaimi's father is still alive somewhere he is unaware of it, nor does he think on it since he's never met the man. There are times though when he finds himself gazing upon big, happy families in a slightly envious manner. He has those dreams about what would things have been like if he had a family like that but he can't say that he hates his lot in life.
The young Menehune fills his days going about the job that helps him to get on with life which is salvage. He will go out on his own to gather bundles of reeds, pretty rocks, fish, and anything else he can get his little hands on to trade or sell. It's not that his brother doesn't provide for him but if he wants something that isn't counted as basic necessities he has to get it himself. It's given Kaimi a drive that others might not have, causing him to work hard to get everything that he wants out of the world with his own two hands. As he is still young there is a lot that he is unable to do and he can't travel as far as he wants to, but he means to do his best within the areas that he is allowed to journey to on his own.
What he really wants to do is find a others that can help him out. Having a group of friends to work with him as a 'salvage team' that will help him both in his ventures and give him something similar to a big family of his own. Until that time though he will merely have to work hard and just dream about the big family that he wants to have in the form of his 'salvage team'.
~ Kaimi is a hard working, somewhat self sustaining young Menehune who is doing his best at his salvage job. He does all he can and is often seen running around, ever busy with his various self appointed tasks.
~ Kaimi is still working hard to get ahead in life. He's looking to move out of his older brother's house and into a place of his own. Better to live a pauper's life on his own then rely on a brother that is only trying to use him and his magic.
~ Kaimi continues his hard work and it's finally starting to get him somewhere. He's found a place of his own, has made some fast friends, and is more happy then he's ever been. He's not one to sit still though so he means to continue ever forward.

KAIMI'S HOME
~ Kaimi presently lives in Salicora with his brother. It's the ideal but it's a home. He isn't sure where he will be settling down when it comes to the point he's ready to get a place for himself. A bigger village with active trade is what he is hoping for, though even then he will likely still be the sort that travels a lot for work.

Marsh/Swamp The Menehune
Away from the rivers, where the water has collected in marsh-like swamps, live the Menehune. Known for their earthy coloring of greens, greys, and browns, the Menehune appear much more rough compared to other races in Kahikina. One of their noted traits is their whisker-like barbels, which help them traverse through the muddy waters that make up their home. Another well known trait that the Menehune have adapted are tattoos; Menehune will add tribal-like black tattoos to their body once they become of age to represent the significant milestones in their life. It is rare to see an elder that isn’t covered with many tattoos over their body.
Because they live in the thicker waters of the mashlands and swamps, the Menehune have developed strong bodies and a working mentality. They live in a society that follows order, discipline and organization, and as a result appear to live simple lives compared to their river neighbors. There are many small colonies that live throughout the swamps, with no major capital between them. Instead, as the colonies get closer to the neighboring Kaha’iko, the influence of the river race is more prevalent.
In general, the Menehune are a solemn race that focus on hard work and pleasing their gods. They do respect the other gods of the world, especially Noelani, but keep to themselves whenever possible. It is only recently, thanks to the Great Drought, that they have increased interaction with the Kaha’iko. This interaction was justified through evaluation on their chances for survival.
Religion
The Menehune believe in a small number of gods which are represented in the world around them. These gods hold the last judgement once a Menehune passes on, and are believed to be the gatekeepers to Noelani’s spring. The Menehune believe that Noelani is an actual goddess that brings rebirth, but only if one is approved by the gatekeeper judges. This judgement occurs not only at death, but throughout one's entire life, and thus the Menehune believe all their actions impact their chances for rebirth.
Noelani Goddess of Life and Rebirth Al'kano God of Death, Bringer of Judgement Uukai Goddess of the Swamp and Marsh Ia'anau God of the Sun, the Moon and the Sky Kaino God of Storms, Bringer of Rain Meakan Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility Palaau God of Wood, Warmth, Protection A'ai God of Fish, Fruit, and Sustenance
Government
The Menehune believe in the Ko’kapu, a set of rules focusing on order, discipline, arrangement, organization, and spiritual power. Each colony has a leader, who is a keeper and enforcer of these laws. These leaders are also believed to be the ones most regulated by these laws. Some examples of these laws is how the tattoos must be designed and where one must go to get their tattoos. Other such expectations to these rules are that they must respect the world around them, they must live in modesty, and they must respect the sacred world around them. If one breaks the Ko’kapu, they are believed to enter taboo and must be punished accordingly.
Naturally, the Menehune who live closer to the Kaha’iko are more lax with their laws, even adapting cultural traits from their neighbors. The Ko’kapu was much more strict in the past, but as generations grow and adapt, it has mostly become a set of rules and guidelines to help keep each other safe and protected. It is believed that by following the Ko’kapu, the Menehune will continue to stay in favor with their gods.
