It was very early when Kaimi headed out, though when he left the house his older brother was already gone. He couldn't very well say where it was that his brother had gone but he didn't really care one way or the other, the man was never home after all. What mattered most to him was getting to work. If he didn't work hard then how was he going to get the various things that he wanted? He'd seen a few things that he liked the last time that he went to the market to look around... not that he could really waste what he'd gathered so far. He wanted to accumulate everything he could after all so that he'd be ready for the day that he could move out on his own.

He had a pack slung over his shoulder and a basket in hand as he left the house, using his best dolphin kick to race forward toward a new spot that he'd found when he was out last. It was a little further then he'd gone in the past, nearing the border in fact. It was a strange sort of place given the differences in the water but he was to try swimming in a new type of water if it meant that he might find something good! He was really excited, though he couldn't let that excitement throw him off his game. While he wanted nothing more then to day dream about all of the amazing things that he was going to find on his current trip he couldn't allow that. If he got too distracted then he could end up lost or worse! He couldn't have that, that was the exact opposite of what he was going for.

Kaimi reached 'the spot' he moved toward a shore line, popping his head up, and looked around for a moment, then dove down again. He didn't spot anything dangerous straight away so it should be alright for him to go ahead with his salvage work. First things first, finding a place to put his basket down, once that was done he put a rock in the bottom to keep it from washing away. That done he set about his search of the new area.

Ano didn't do early often. They really liked to just sleep with no interruptions. Unfortunately their mother decided it was time for them to get up. So with much grumbling, getting dressed and getting food in his stomach, Ano'i pua was off and out for the day.

They took their time exploring, a small hand satchel across their chest, floating behind them as they swam and looked for new shells or shiny things to make jewelry out of. Ano might gripe, but they loved their mother a whole lot, and wanted to make something special for her birthday. Every now and then they would lower to the floor to move sand around, trying to find abandoned coral pieces that broke off, or just something.

So far they hadn't found much and they knew they were approaching unknown territory. With a hard blink, Ano realized they were near the boarder. Just as they were about to swim back, they casted their eyes down and saw someone there with a basket! That one didn't look like him.

"H...Hey!" Getting more bold, they dove down and floated a couple feet away from the one on the rock and hoped the other stopped moving around.

"Hey who're you?"

Was someone calling out to him? Kaimi's barbels gave a little twitch before he twirled around in the water so that he was looking upwards instead of down toward the ground that he'd been digging around in. It was a rather beautiful sight to behold as a rather brightly colored sort was there above him, back lit by the sun, and it had the Menehune boy starring openly. After what felt like an eternity of silence his mind seemed to click into gear with sudden realization of what, no who, he was looking at. A Kaha'iko! Shifting himself so that he could plant his feet again the bottom of the river, pushing off so that he swim up toward the other person.

"Hello!" He said, his eyes filled with great interest as he got closer to the other. So this was what a Kaha'iko looked like. They were rather bright colored and shiny, weren't they? A bit like the shiny rocks that he collected while he was out salaving. It was something so much different then those that he had met to this point and it caused him that much more interested in the group as a whole now.

Already he had plans to try too meet with them for trading purposes but this particular meeting was a little ahead of schedule. As the other asked who he was he answered, "I'm Kaimi, who are you?"

This other was so dark. Skin, scales, and hair. Even his eyes were dark! Ano watched him and floated a bit closer towards him with little arm movements, head canting to the side. So interesting! "You're.....You're a Menehne?"

It was their first one to meet! Ano wiggled a little and just seemed to start to circle the other, examining his clothing and the dark hair on top of his head. "...I've never seen one of you. Oh!" The noticed the whiskers and swam really close, a pale finger reaching out to poke at one, or they wanted to. "I'm Ano'i pua! Ano for short, according to mom."

Kaimi gave a nod of his head, leaning in a bit closer to get a really good look at the other, "I am... and you're a Kaha'iko? I've never seen one of your tribe before, you look so different then we Menehune do." The exact opposite in fact, all bright colors all over, the Kaha'iko was certainly interesting to behold that much was for certain.

The poke caused his barbel to give a little twitch, which caused Kaimi to laugh, unable to help but be amused by the other fish's curiosity. He gave a smile as the one before him gave an introduction, "Ano'i pua? That's an interesting name." As he was told that it was 'Ano' for short he gave a nod of his head, "Ano it is then. It's very nice to meet you, Ano." Kaimi moved then, setting to circling around the one called Ano, wanting to take in every detail of the Kaha'iko. He was a really interesting one, one that he could study all day in fact!

When the other said he'd never seen a Kaha'iko before, Ano's eyes widened and they just let out a little noise. So they spun around to let the other get a good look of what most Kaha'iko looked like (generally speaking) and then just wiggled their fingers.

Then the other fish was circling them and Ano couldn't help but laugh and try to stay where they were facing each other. They were making something of a game out of it. "So.. Why do you have those things on your face? What do they do?" Ano wanted to poke them again, but they refrained. Too much touching was bad, right? The other would snap at them or push their hands away or something.

Ano had to play it cool.

Not their biggest strong suit.

"I mean. That was probably rude.. I'm sorry, but I've never seen them up close like this!"

Kaimi couldn't help but to smile as the other seemed to turn along with him circling him, meaning that he didn't exactly get to see every inch of the Kaha'iko. A shame since he was interested in the other fish as a whole but he didn't mind too much since it seemed like a fun enough game if you asked him. As the other asked him about his barbels he lifted a hand to hover near to one of them, "These are an extension of myself, they help me to see in a sense even when I get to kicking up a lot of dirt at the bottom of the water." Something that he did fairly often actually.

Giving a smile he sad, "They are quite helpful when it comes to me searching for shiny stones!" Something he rather enjoyed doing though for the moment even Kaimi who was so serious about his work had been distracted.

As the other commented about being rude Kaimi thought about it, then shook his head, "I don't mind... though there might be other Menehune who wouldn't want their barbels poked at. Just a warning." Ano seemed really nice so he wouldn't want to see the Kaha'iko get beat up or anything because he poked at the wrong Menehune.

"Got it. Stop poking things on faces." Ano nodded slowly and then giggled a little more as they started to spin around right there, the water moving with them. Their little feet kicked and eventually Ano got too dizzy and stopped, giggling a bit and fixing their hair. "Sorry! You seemed to like spinning in circles! I got excited..." The flushed a little and then looked around.

"Were you looking for stones now? Could I help?" Ano might have came here, but he actually didn't have anything to really do here. So, the chance of finding shiny things with a Menehune on top of it all!

Ano was full of buzzing excitement.

Kaimi gave a bit of a chuckle, unable to help it, as he nodded his head, "Yeah, at least with strangers. I guess if the Menehune are your friends then I am sure they won't mind as much." How could they get angry at Ano since they seemed so nice? Well, he supposed someone like his brother could do so but that was because he was a grump he thought to himself. Giving a shame of his head he gave a smile and said, "Swimming in circles? Yeah, maybe a little?" At least at the time since he was trying to get a better look at the one before him.

"You want to help?" That wasn't an offer he got a lot so he found himself instantly nodding, "Sure! I can show you some of what I am looking for." With that he dug into the pouch at his side, taking out one glittering stone that he'd found buried under a good amount of dirt. It was a nice, yellow orange stone, "I think this one is called citrine if I recall right. Something like this or... well, any other pretty color, is what I'm looking for.

After giving Ano a once over he said, "You don't mind though, do you? Getting dirty I mean... you seem so bright colored and pretty, I wouldn't want you getting all mucked up if you really don't want to." It wasn't that he was flirting with Ano so much as stating what he saw to be the obvious. Ano was pretty, was light in coloration, and he was sure the dirt would stain them more then it would Kaimi. It was cause to make sure the other knew what they were getting into.

They bit down on their bottom lip and just gave a little grin. "Getting dirty's no problem! ..I think.." Honestly Ano's never tried to play in mud and dig around, but honestly, it was just mud. It'd come off while they swam, right? So, Ano 'rolled' up their sleeves and flexed their arms.

"I can help! I'm just as pretty covered in muck." They didn't know that, but it was probably true. "I really want to see where to find interesting things and see if it works back home!

"Citrine is a weird name." They'd had time to think about it and it was a really weird name. They didn't even know if they said it right! It felt heavy on their tongue.

Giving a smile Kaimi said, "If you're certain then I don't mind you joining me in the digging." That the pretty Kahi'iko didn't mind digging around with him was nice! It meant that he had someone to chat with instead of just digging around on his lonesome which could get boring after while. While he was fine with the long hours of work that he put in that didn't mean that it couldn't get to him at times. Having any helpers was always something that he welcomed.

As Ano claimed to be 'just as pretty covered in much' Kaimi couldn't help but to chuckle, "I'm sure that you're right about that." He said before sinking back down to the ground, setting to work digging around once more in the muddy bottom of the water. His barbels felt as though they were buzzing, a sure sign that there was something in the area. They just had to dig around in this place and they were sure to find something, Kaimi just knew it!

Giving a smile he said to Ano, "I'm almost certain that there is something nearby if you want to help me dig in this area." Two sets of hands digging for whatever was buried here were better then only one after all. They would find their prize twice as fast if they worked together!

Ano sank down with the other, floating about while they watched. It was fascinating, watching someone root around in the mud like it was second nature. Their head canted from side to side as they floated just above, watching the mud with big eyes.

What did that feel like? It had to be interesting. Then they saw Kaimi again and Ano nodded and let out a nervous excited giggle.

"Okay." With that, they floated down to the bottom and settled near the darker of the two and then looked around and then started to just dig right in. "Around here? I wonder what it is! What hides down here?" Learning new things made them the most happy. This was a good learning experience and a day they soon wouldn't forget, even just because they met their first Menehune. "Does food come from this far down?"

As Ano joined him Kaimi glanced up at him, then back down to the mud again, "Yeah, somewhere in this area. It's where I feel the buzzing the most in my barbels so we have to be right on top of it... only I can't say exactly how deep down the gem might be." It wasn't an exact thing after all. He could sense that he was over top of the buried treasure but how far down in the mud was always the question. There were times where he spent hours digging before he finally hit pay dirt in fact, though he kept that to himself. If Ano knew how long it might take then the other fish might leave.

Pausing in his digging he looked up at Ano for a moment, then gave a nod, "There are some species of tasty fish that bury themselves. If you're hungry we can keep an eye out for them as we dig." He wasn't sure if they would be able to find a cat fish or an eel in this area since he'd kicked up a lot of dirt and made enough of a commotion that they had likely all swam off. Still, if the other was hungry there was no reason not to keep an eye out just in case.

Oh, snacks on the go. Ano giggled as they continued to dig in the mud. Honestly, they didn't seem to mind. They even seemed quite enthusiastic, if the dirt that was being moved and shifted around had anything at all to say about it. Buried treasure was a nifty idea, and they were definitely going to try to look for their own when they were home later!

"Snacks on the go, shiny things, a new friend..." Ano let out a content little noise and wriggled. So exciting! "I've learned how to take plants and weave them into little baskets! They're not very good right now, but everyone says I'll end up getting better. So if I can find shiny things back home, I can weave them into baskets and potentially clothing later." They were talking as if this was something that was definite. Having something to do with their hands was the best way for them to deal with a lot of their hyper activity. Though... to the dismay of others, it didn't stop Ano from actually talking while they were doing said weaving.

Kaimi gave a smile, "Those three things are rather great, especially all together." He was a pretty big fan of all three at least, especially the last one. Nothing was better in his mind then making new friends since he much preferred his various friends to his older brother Moke.

Turning to look at Ano as the pretty Kaha'iko told him about how Ano was weaving baskets. He gave a smile and said, "Baskets, huh? If you have any to trade let me know, I can always use more baskets to hold the various things that I gather." The more baskets he had the easier it was to keep everything organized just so allowing Kaimi to find everything easily. Ano said the baskets weren't very good but Kaimi still kind of wanted to see them. He was curious if maybe Ano was just saying they weren't good due to not being confident in the work they put in?

"Oh? You're going to learn to weave clothing as well? That sounds pretty neat. If you like I can help you by gathering the materials you need for your weaving to trade for some baskets." He offered, always open to any sort of trading, especially if it was a benefit to them both.
