Palila was in a sour mood. Her grandfather had insisted that she go out and play with the other children today and let him handle all of the chores, and he wasn't taking no for an answer. Usually she got her way when it came to this argument, but he'd managed to trick her into leaving the house and took her siblings to a friend's house while she was out. He was a such a sneak when he wanted to be and it really irked her. Didn't he understand that she liked to work and take care of the house? It made her feel important! He was being unreasonable!
She folded her arms as she drifted along and huffed. Tomorrow, she would make sure to do double the work and fix anything that he messed up on. However, today, it looked like she wasn't getting out of a day to herself. She pouted. Well, maybe not an entire day to herself, but so far, all of her usual playmates were busy or had other plans. Was it really going to be a day of building sandcastles all on her own again?
The longer she lingered close to home, the more irritated she became, so she swam out from the village just a little and looked around. Maybe there was something to do around here? She squinted. ... Wait, who was that? What were they doing?
She wiggled closer toward them, a child who didn't look much older than she was, and lingered close to them. They looked busy digging around in the dirt. Did they lose something? She arched a brow.
"Uh... Hi?" She greeted, waving. "What'cha digging for?"Orpheus Solon IDK if this is what you meant by her finding him at work. Let me know if you want me to change anything!

Kaimi blinked a couple times as he heard a voice that was coming through his very focused thoughts, his barbels giving a little twitch. Lifting his hand the young Menehune set to waving his arms around in an attempt to clear the water around himself a bit. It was a losing battle though which prompted him to just swim a bit above the cloud of dirt and debris so that he could face the one that was addressing him. To his surprise and delight it was someone new! While he enjoyed very much seeing his friends it was also a lot of fun meeting new people, especially those of his own tribe. "Hello!" Kaimi greeted her, giving her a wave in response before looking down at the mess that he was making before he shook his head, "I... can't say for certain quite yet. I know that there is something here. I just won't know for sure until I finally unearth it." If there was a way of knowing before he started to dig that would be quite amazing! He couldn't really complain though, any time his barbels started to 'buzz' it was always because something interesting was buried in the dirt at his feet. He supposed that he would have to enjoy the surprise that went along with the dig. Sinking back down into his half dug pit he said, "Are you on a salvaging expedition too? If so I can say there are some good treasures to be had in this area."

Palila waved back and echoed Kaimi's smile, before tilting her head to the side and drifting closer. What, he didn't know what he was digging for? That seemed a little pointless to her. But, then again, she wasn't a expert on digging for things. Maybe this spot in particular had interesting things? She pursed her lips.
"Ahhhh, okay." She replied, leaning over as he sunk back into the pit. "And, uh, no. I was just looking for something to do. All of my friends are busy and..."
She paused, glancing back toward the village, and kneeling down to the dirt.
"I kinda want to learn about salavaging." She said, nodding firmly. "Can I help you dig?"

Kaimi was digging around as she spoke, telling him about how she was 'just looking for something to do' and that her 'friends were busy' which was a shame. Giving a smile as he worked he said, "It's always a shame when friends are busy." Especially those that he spent the most time with but he understood that people got busy and weren't always able to come digging with him. Some day, maybe, when they were old enough that they were more in control of their time? He gave a pause in his digging as she mention wanting to learn about salvaging. It was something that made him smile, "It can be tiring, messy work, but it's always worth it when you find something interesting buried in the mud." He told her in an excited manner, wanting nothing more then to share the fun of salvage with her. Giving a rapid nod of his head he said, "Of course! If we work together we might be able to get at... well, whatever it is that has my barbels buzzing!"

"Your barbels buzz?" Palila asked, drifting closer as she asked. She'd never heard of such a thing, espescially in the way he was describing it. However, as long as it didn't hurt him, maybe it was okay? She looked to him curiously and wiggled herself quickly to perch on the opposite edge of the pit.
She wouldn't delve more into the subject of her friends, or her true desire to be home with her family. Instead, she watched him dig around in the dirt, her neck craning around clouds of dirt to see just how he worked, and pondered where she would start. He seemed to have a pretty decent hole already, did he really need her help? She squinted at herself.
"What exactly are you looking for?" She asked, leaning toward him. "I don't know what stuff can be found out here. I've never been salvaging before."Orpheus Solon I know this isn't the EXACT reply from before, but I think it covers it? Q nQ Sorry for being a tired dummy!

Kaimi gave a nod of his head as he dug around in the mud, "Yeah... well, sorta? It's hard to explain exactly but 'buzz' feels the closest to the right description of what it feels like. Naw, it doesn't hurt but it can be startling when it kicks up." He said as he pushed more and more of the mud at the bottom aside, something that helped mostly to muck up the waters around them. It was alright though, as a Menehune it was easy for him to feel his way through the muck with his hands and barbels. It was what they did... and Kaimi was particularly adept at it. After pulling up the bandana he wore around his neck to cover his mouth, mostly to keep the dirt out of it, he said, "You will know what we are seeking by tough. Something rough and rocky." It was a gemstone of some sort, they just had to be persistent and find it! He gave a smile as he thought about how the extra set of hands was going to let them unearth this so much faster! He glanced toward where he could still see the other girl to a degree in the murk and said, "Thanks for the help. It should be a bit quicker with two sets of hands!"

"O-oh." Palila said, kicking her feet about slightly as she mulled the thought over. Well, it wasn't her place to question what other people's bodies did or didn't do, but she did wonder if she would ever be able to experience the buzzing for herself. She raised a hand gently to touch her face and shook her head. Nah. She wasn't anything special like that.
She watched him for a moment longer before joining him in the pit and actually getting to work. Tiny green hands tugged at the dirt like she'd been trapped and assembled the resulting piles outside of the pit so they wouldn't get in the way. Soon enough, she felt like she was getting into it and got a little excited about finding something buried underneath her feet. However, she did feel as though she would be more fulfilled if she were the one to find it. She'd keep that to herself, though.
"No problem, I like digging!" She exclaimed, laughing a bit afterward. "Do you think we'll find a lot of things or just one thing?"Orpheus Solon This is the actual reply! I'm sorry! @ .@

"It's hard to say actually. The buzzing isn't exactly... specific, you see. We could find one tiny little crystal necklace that someone dropped ages ago or we could find a pocket of naturally growing crystals. It's all just chance." He was hoping for the best from this dig since there were two of them digging. If they were to find a whole pocket of pretty crystals then they would be able to split them up between the two of them and they would both win in the end. Giving a little smile as his finger tips scrapped against something he said, "It feels like it might be more then just a little thing. Let's hope that it's a nice, big pocket filled to the brim with crystals! If so we will both have enough to trade for whatever we might want or need." Which sounded great to him as he could think of a few things that he wanted to get from the crystals that could be gathered this trip. The biggest thing always being food to replenish what was missing from the cupboards back home. "Anything that you might want to trade for in particular?" He asked as he dug, careful to dig the dirt from around the rocky area that his fingers had first brushed against, hoping to expose all of what they had found.

Ah, well in a way, she supposed that made sense. Barbels, while super useful, couldn't point out the specifics of everything. However, all of those possible things really interested her, espescially if they stumbled upon a trove of them. She didn't have a lot of pretty things to wear and finding something like a crystal necklace would be nice, even if she would feel a little sad for the person who lost it. She'd put it to good use, though!
"Trade? I didn't think about that." She replied, turning to face him. "We should see what we find first before we think about trading. I want to see everything there is before I decide."
She paused her digging and joined him on his side of the pit. Since he was the one with the buzzing barbels here, it would probably be wise to dig where he was digging.
"Do you trade a lot of the stuff you find?" She asked.

"It's alright to dream about what you might be able to trade for, I do." Kaimi said, his barbels giving a little twitch as he glanced up at the girl that was helping him out. He gave a little smile before he said, "I understand though, wanting to see the treasure we are digging up before we think about spending it. We don't know what the treasure will be worth after all." He could only hope that it would be a good treasure, the sort that was worthwhile to the merchants so that they would be able to trade it for something interesting. Giving a nod as he returned to his digging he said, "Fairly often, yes. If I want something new, like a new pack, more baskets, to refresh to pantry more quickly my brother does it, then I will trade for stuff." He glanced up at the girl and asked, "Have you gone trading before?" Was he the only one that did so among those his age? Did others? He couldn't really say since he knew that he was more mature then a lot his age, something that came from his upbringing being as it was.

Oh, well she could dream. She smiled at the thought, more out of humor than out of agreement, and continued to dig. It wasn't that she wasn't much of a dreamer, it was that she favored to be more practical about things. You could hope all you wanted for something wonderful, but what really mattered was what you did in order to make sure you got it. She didn't want to get her hopes up on anything until she saw what was being offered.
"No, not really." She answered, her lips puckering. "I've seen trading before, but by adults or older kids. I usually make sure my little siblings stay out of trouble when we go and I never have anything interesting with me to offer, so I don't. I'd like to try one day, though."
Her barbels gave a twitch of their own and her brows furrowed a bit.
"You and your brother trade for food and supplies?" She asked, a subtle concern in her eyes. "My grandfather does that, and sometimes my parents when they're home, but I've never heard of a kid doing that."

Kaimi gave a nod of her head, "Yeah, it does tend to be something that adults do a lot more often then those our age since people tend to take them more serously." Which was one of those things that bothered Kaimi a bit but one day soon he would be old enough to be taken seriously, which would make trading easier for him. Giving a smile he said, "It can be tough but it's... well, a bit of a rush. Not to mention how nice it feels to get things that you want by trading things you've found yourself for them!" "Eh? Oh... yeah, my brother... Moke trades sometimes too, yes. He's not as good as finding really good deals though cause he doesn't like shopping around." He didn't want to complain about his brother too much when the man had the occasional good moment. It was just a shame that they didn't happen more often then they did. As she mentioned how her grandfather and parents traded for supplies but no kid she'd ever heard of he said with a smile, "I am glad to be the first that you've met who has done so." It made him feel special and he hoped that it would help him as far as one day putting together his own salvage team. It would be feel wonderful, having the team that would be made up of those who would be both friend and family to himself and the others in the group.

Palila couldn't help but giggle a little and raised a muddy palm to cover her lips. She found his excitement about trading endearing, really, and it almost made her want to swim out to the nearest trading spot to try her hand right then and there. However, first she would need something worth trading for, and that's what they were both digging for.
"Have you or your brother ever traded for something really rare or special?" She asked, patting the dirt she'd moved down by her side so it would stop flying up and blocking her sight. "Or do you mostly go there looking for stuff you need?"
She paused, considering the question for herself, and nodded.
"I think I would be looking for things I needed, honestly." She deduced, looking up to the sky and tapping her chin. "Toys for my siblings, food... Not sure what else I'd be interested in."

Kaimi seemed to consider the question for a long moment before he gave a shake of his head, "Nothing special yet... though one day I mean to trade stuff that I gather for a place of my own. Until then it's mostly trading for stuff that is necessary so as not to spend too much." The more that he trade away on frivolous things the longer it was going to take him to be able to afford a place of his own after all. He had to focus on that, one his ultimate goal, and it made it a little easier to live without things that others his age might want. Other things, things that a person wanted just because they looked nice could wait until later, once he was out on his own. As the one digging alongside him said that she would be looking for things that she needed he couldn't help but to smile. It was nice to find someone else that thought along the same lines as he did when it came to what was worth buying. Curious about the siblings she mentioned he asked, "Do you have many siblings?" She wanted to buy things for them so surely she must have a closer bond with them then Kaimi had with Moke, huh?

Palila smiled. This kid held a lot of the same ideals she did, though her goals were just ever so slightly different. Having three younger siblings made it hard to be careless with things like money and food, so she agreed with him on the need to save up. However, she wasn't thinking about striking it out on her own, not even in the far future. Staying home and taking care of things was her job and, admittedly, she couldn't see a life on her own. It seemed too lonesome, and she wasn't someone who liked being alone.
"I have three younger siblings." She replied, giving a laugh. "They're the same age, so my grandpa and I call them triplets. They look different from one another, though, so it's not like I can't tell them apart... What about your brother? Is he much older than you?"
