Kaimi was actually in town today instead of being out on a salvage, deciding that he wanted to see about doing a bit int he way of trading today. After that he would look around, as he often did, at the homes that were for sale and the current going prices. One day he meant to buy himself a place of his own but that wouldn't be until he was a little older and had enough gathered to actually afford a place. The idea of having a place of his own, one where he could drag back everything that he salvaged, would be wonderful! He would pack it full of things that he would trade with others! It would be so much fun! Especially if he was able to add people to his team instead of just salvaging alone.

"Focus, Kaimi." He told himself, knowing that he had to focus or else he would miss out on good trades. He needed a bigger pack, some more baskets, a new outfit would be nice, a comb, and a few other random items. He should get the pack first so that he could carry some of the other stuff in it. After patting the pouch at his side, making sure it was still tied firmly in place, he started forward, using his best dolphin kick to move at a speedy pace. It was time to get to trading!

Malea had grown up in Salicora, and knew all of the local faces that swam by on a daily basis. It was a hustling town for trade, being so large and in the center of Elehun, so there were plenty of faces she also didn't know and probably would never recognize.

She swam through the local markets, wandering some of the stalls and catching quick glimpses back in the direction of home. Her fathers didn't normally let her wander around for too long, but they were both busy preparing for the trip to Pale'iko for the Great Meeting, and they were tending to lose track of Malea recently. It made her nervous to be out too long, but she couldn't resist the chance to take a look at what the merchants had for sale.

Once he was among the traders Kaimi found himself looking around between them. He would need to find one that was open to trading with someone like him. He didn't want to deal with the usual, which was people treating him like... well, a child. He knew that he was one but he wanted to be treated as though he were more mature since he tried his hardest to act that way. Let's see... he found himself scanning through the various merchants before he spotted one that he hoped would work with him. Not to mention that he was selling some rather nicely made packs which Kaimi would only be too happy to have one of.

As he started forward he found himself swimming almost side by side with another Menehune about his age, seemingly heading the same direction as him. He thought on it for a moment before he said, "Good morning!" Might as well greet her since it did seem that they were heading in the same direction, it would be awkward otherwise.

Malea was nestles into her own thoughts, completely lost to the outside world when a voice pulled her back out. He was young, he looked like he could be her age. She smiled shyly and continued her swim into the market. "Good morning." She returned.

She looked at him, catching quick glances and looking away, trying not to make it too obvious. He didn't look familiar. She didn't think she had ever seen him. "Are... are you from here?" She inquired.

Kaimi gave a smile as he continued along at the side of the cute Menehune girl, glad that his greeting had been returned. If it hadn't he might have been a bit on the embarrassed side, that she'd greeted him in return though was enough to put him in a better mood then he had been when he first arrived at the market place. Interactions with those that weren't his brother always seemed to be good for putting Kaimi in a better mood though.

"From here? No, but I visit here from time to time so that I can see what the market place has to offer. What about you?" He wondered if she lived here or if she was just here for trading as well. There weren't a lot of people their age that were heavy into buying, selling, and trading but he enjoyed meeting those that were. It meant more people that he could chat with about such hobbies.

Malea felt herself relax a bit the longer the other menehune spoke. So a traveler then, that was neat. She nodded her head at his question, her feet still kicking her in the same direction as the boy. "I've lived here my whole life. But I like going to the market sometimes. Usually I try to find beads or ribbons I can use." Usually it was her fathers who took her, but still, she did like to go out. This time was just a bit... different.

"Are you looking for anything in particular?" She asked him. She couldn't help but wonder what it that brought him out to a different town, and from what she could tell - alone. He must be braver than she was, that was for sure.

Kaimi's fin ears gave a little twitch as he thought on her question. How much should he share? She seemed nice enough and she said that she'd lived here her whole life so he could learn from her. He gave a humming sound before he said, "I am looking for a few things... bags and baskets for the most part, but then... well, it will sound weird, but I am curious to see the prices of houses in the area."

He looked over at Malea, giving her a smile, and said, "I plan to move into a place of my own someday, once I am older, so I want to know how much I need to save." He knew that it wasn't something that a lot of children their age thought about but Kaimi had always been rather mature of his age. He wanted to know what he needed to save for a place of his own, even if it was just a tiny place.

Malea was more than a little taken aback by the answer to her question, and she could only assume the surprise showed on her face. He looked like he was her age and he was already thinking about buying a house. It was something that hadn't even crossed her mind, and hadn't intended to for years to come. But I guess that was good to be prepared like that.

"Well that's something I haven't heard of before." She partially joked. "Do you look in all the cities you go to, or are you just looking in Salicora?" It was the curiosity of it all that had her attention now.

Kaimi's barbels gave a little twitch as he thought about her question before he finally said, "Well, I'd really be willing to live anywhere if the price was right." No reason to be picky with what village he lived in if it meant getting to live on his own. It wasn't really an option that was open to him at the moment, he didn't have nearly enough gems gathered for such a trade, but one day.

Giving a little chuckle he said, "I'd even be willing to live somewhere outside of town in fact." If that were cheaper then so be it. It might be a bit more lonely then living in town but he was sort of used to being a loner by this point. Glancing around he said, "A house isn't really the first thing on my list though since I doubt that even if I had enough for one that someone to sell such a thing to a child." Instead they would likely send him home thinking that he didn't know what he was talking about or what he wanted.

Malea nodded her head at the other menehune boy. It was true, who would take a kid seriously about buying a house. But still, it was funny to think that someone her age was already thinking so seriously about the future. "Well... you have a goal at least, right? I haven't even started to think about things like that." She answered. She was still more than happy to live at home with her parents, and she was still very much comfortable where she was in Salicora. She paused at one of the stalls they passed, looking at some of the beads they had for sale. Some of them were very pretty, she would need to ask her fathers to get her some maybe.

"So, you're not going home with houses-" she giggled at her own little joke, "do you have plans for your bags and baskets you're shopping for?" She thought on her own trip to Noelani coming up soon. "Are you planning a trip, too?" It seemed all anyone could talk about lately was the big trip to Pale'iko for the meeting. She didn't think that she would have gotten to go, but it looked like her parents had a change of heart and all three of them were going to make the journey there. There would be so many things to see! She was very excited for herself.

Kaimi wondered if his thinking so hard on the future even at his age was odd. He would guess that it was pretty likely that he was one of few that thought in such a manner already but he did have a lot of motivation as far as wanting to get out on his own was concerned.

Giving a smile at the joke he said, "The bags and baskets are mostly for organizational purposes. If I don't have the baskets my room risks ending up a mess with all the stuff that I bring home with me." He'd rather everything was organized in a very careful and precise manner so that he could find what he was looking for at any given moment quickly and easily. If he didn't have the baskets he could only assume that his room would end up a massive mess and the idea didn't sit well with him.

"A trip would be really nice. I hope that I can go on one someday. I bet the distant lands would have all sorts of interesting crystals for me to dig up." He murmured, wondering what it might be like to get out and about. Nice he was sure, though he wondered if he would end up focusing more on his usual work then on the trip itself. He'd assume the latter would eat up his focus since he often found himself distracted with his work.

Malea nodded her head slowly as Kaimi spoke. "Organization is important." She trailed off, thinking about her own room and what a mess it always was. But she didn't mind too much. Not right now. She would rather spend her time doing things than cleaning her room that was for sure. But she also didn't really go around collecting things to bring home either. She didn't take that much bead and ribbon.

She pushed her legs through the water, feeling the resistance of the water around them and gave the boy in front of her a thoughtful look. "Why don't you go on the trip to Noelani with the rest of us?" Malea herself thought that she wasn't going to be able to go, but after her fathers had brought the idea up herself, it's all that's been on her mind. "Maybe that would be the perfect place for you to get your crystals." She put a hand to her cheek and thought about the way he had said that. "What do you use the crystals for?" She couldn't resist. She was exceptionally curious now about his hobbies. Digging through the mud wasn't something you hear about every day, especially from a boy just as young as her probably. Whatever he was doing, it was very different than how Malea spent her days.

"Go to Noelani? That might be an interesting." He mused, wondering if he should go along or not. It could be interesting and as she said it might be perfect for finding crystals. Especially since they would be foreign crystals that were different then those that could be found here at home. He was sure the Menehune would rather like the strange crystals from a different land so it might help him trade for more interesting things. At least he was hoping so.

Giving a little smile he said, "What do I use them for? Nothing much at the moment. I will occassionally trade them for things that I want and need, otherwise I am saving them back for later. There are some really pretty ones out there so they make for good trade commodeties." Those that liked to dress up in more fancy, shiny things or those that knew of others that did especially enjoyed to get crystals for him.

Malea nodded her head with enthusiasm as Kaimi agreed that Noelani would be interesting to visit. ”Most definitely! I’m very excited, I can’t wait to go.”

His answer to her question about the crystals though had her even more confused; she didn’t really think that cleared it up at all. He used it to trade but he was saving some for himself… for what? Did he make jewelry with them? That would make more sense to Malea. She collected the ribbon and beads so she could make bracelets and things to wear. ”Well I don’t know much about trading, but maybe I’ll get some crystals too.” She tagged on. ”I bet I could use them with my beads to make more jewelry, right? They would be pretty. Or I could use them to trade for other prettier beads and ribbons. What do you think?” She asked Kaimi. It was just a hobby of hers, but it was fun for now. And Noelani could have all sorts of stuff for her to use.

"Trading is an interesting thing. I still have so much to learn I think but so far people have been pretty nice to me when it comes to helping me learn to trade in a way that doesn't cause me to get taken advantage of." Which was really nice of them. He hoped to become a good trader one day, but until then he supposed he was sort of relying on the merchants to give him good deals since he was still little. Something that would likely only last while he was young, if that.

Giving a smile he said, "Oooo, that does sound like it would be really nice! I think that would make things worth more to those that you're trading with if the crystals are fancied up with beads and ribbons." That was something he should consider, wondering if making the crystals he found into jewelry or accessories would help him to get more in trades. It was something to definitely think about.
