November 1st was a remarkably normal night for a remarkably abnormal event.

The Vanguardian’s base camp had been deconstructed earlier in the day in preparation for the comet. They had rested up earlier and were in the final stages of this mission.

Their presence in Destiny City had been as discreet as they could manage, and they had done their best to avoid creating too much trouble for anyone.

They had gathered their energy. They had calculated the exact day, the exact hour, the exact moment when the comet would be most aligned for them. All that they had left to do was get everyone in place.

The hexagonal dome had been lowered; now, visibly encircling the base camp, there were several human sized, egg-shaped generators dotting the perimeter of the hill. In the center, a hexagonal machine was expertly built and pointed directly up at the sky.

Each device was built with thick, sturdy metal, and had crystal panels inalid to siphon energy. The generators were attached to the center machine with thick wires that ran underground.

Energy hummed in the air despite the fact that none of the generators had been turned on yet. Even in their dormant state, the generators were actively blocking out energy signatures in the area.

Caedus, Lyndin, and the rest of the Vanguard were collected in the center of the field, near the large machine. Lyndin stood, arms crossed over his chest, and surveyed the field before him. He seemed quiet, contemplative.

Grim.

He did not relish the thought of battle, but he was prepared for whatever outcome they might find. They were as prepared for this as they were ever going to be.

Caedus was a bit more energetic; he was eager, but nervous. No matter how much faith he had in the Vanguard, of course he would worry for them. For this.

But, he believed in them.

He believed this could be the end of all the Chaos on Earth.

And so, he had sent out a message only a moment ago:

'We are ready. The energy has been collected. We can connect with the comet. If you are ready and able to fight, we need you. We are where we were before. '

All they had to do now was wait.

Quote:
The Vanguard is ready to make their move! All Order characters will receive a digital message on whatever communication device they use; this will appear as a text message on Senshi Phones and Mauvian Communicators, and upgraded Signet Rings. For Order characters without these communication devices, the message will appear as holographic letters in front of them that they can dismiss by waving their hands through it. If the character is not powered up, they will receive a tingling sensation that seems to urge them to power up and receive their message.

This roleplay will lead to a Battle and will have follow up; this event will ICly only last a few hours total but will be open through the end of the month and is forward dated to occur the evening of November 1st.

The next official mule prompt will come in ~24 hours and will have more information, however there will be 48 hours between each battle prompt. Characters can join at any point in time and there is no penalty for not responding to this prompt. When you are posting your character, you must include their name, rank, and a link to their journal in bold font at the top of your post. Vanguardian Cadets only need to bold their name at the top of their posts; please make sure you have updated your NPC status to reflect if they will survive this encounter or not! If you are going to kill your NPC, the upcoming battle will be your last opportunity to do so! Today is the last day to claim a new NPC to bring into play; you must post by end of day October 15th to claim one. If you are playing a Velencian NPC, you have through end of day October 31st to complete 500 words in three roleplays with them to be eligible for a prize. To earn the prize, you must participate with them and write at least 500 words in this ORP as well as a follow up roleplay. Players who kill their Velencian in this roleplay but have completed all requirements except for the follow up ORP may be eligible for a prize as well. Please make sure you update your RP log, and quote the mule if you are killing or have killed your NPC!

At this point in time, only members of the Vanguard and Order characters can participate. If you are interacting with any NPCs or examining the environment, please quote The Space Cauldron!

Please do not reserve posts in this thread to backfill later! We are doing our best to be transparent about post and run time so players can plan ahead. If you reserve a post, you must fill it out as soon as possible. We understand accidents may happen or things may pop up, but we are asking players to be considerate of each other and only post when they are able to write something along with it! Posts can be as short as one sentence if need be but should clearly detail what your character is doing or saying.

Posting Form

Character name, rank, and a link to their journal (Vanguardian Cadets do not need to post a link)
HP: First stage characters, PC Youma, and Cat/Humanoid Mauvians have 50 HP, Second stage characters and Mauvian Senshi have 75 HP, Third stage characters have 100 HP and Fourth stage characters have 150 HP. If you were contacted via PM about a special Negaverse role, please use the HP and damage information from the PM. Once a character reaches 0 HP they pass out.
Action: Please summarize whatever action you are doing; if you are attacking a specific target, please indicate that here. You must be in the same square as someone/something to attack them and can only move two squares at a time per round (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or a mix). Teleportation is not permitted.
Damage When calculating damage: roll the base dice, add rank bonus, add faction bonus, add accessory bonus.
Location: Include which grid square they are moving to. You can move to any square at this point in time, however column 1 and 7, and row A and G are being guarded by General Sovereigns securing the perimeter. It is unwise to engage, but not impossible.

FAQ

 • Can the Crystal Flower IC RP Item be used? - No; doubling all damage tips the scales a bit too much for this event

 • Can the Cracked Bone IC RP Item be used? - Yes; it will restore 10 HP to a target. Players who use one of these can attack and move as well; this is an IC RP item that they earned so it is a bonus.

 • Can the Silver Whistle Permanent Item be used for this event? - Yes; it can give one roll +3 damage or a flat rate of 3 damage to a target while doing another action (such as shielding or healing) ; you must note that you are using it when you tally your dice rolls.

 • Can the Pearlescent Bead RP Item be used for this event? - Yes; it will restore one use of a character's strongest usable magical attack. It cannot grant them use of a magic they have not yet unlocked. You must note that you are using it when you tally your dice rolls.

 • Can the Metallic Bracelet Permanent Item be used for this event? - Yes; this gives one roll +5 damage and you must note that you are using it when you tally your dice rolls.

 • How does the Forgotten Spell Enhancement affect this event? - The Forgotten Spell Enhancement gives +3 to one roll and can only be used once; you must note that you are using it when you tally your dice rolls.

 • Do senshi with the Senshi Magic Enhancement get an extra use of magic? - Yes, you get one extra use of your alt super senshi magic; you must note that you are using it when you tally your dice rolls.

 • Does the Ethereal Armor Enhancement have an effect here? - Yes, it has a one time effect of -3 damage from an attack; you must note that you are using it when you tally your damage.

 • Do PC Youma/Half Youma mutations have a bonus? - Yes; they get one additional use of a youma ability; you must note that you are using it when you tally your dice rolls.

 • Why does magic have distorted effects here? - ICly, there is a strange energy field distorting magic, so your magic might have different effects than you are used to seeing in play. It may simplify or alter the effects of magic to make them more in-line with one of the dice roll options.

 • Can Negaverse Agents summon any youma? - No; only PC/official youma can be used here.

 • There are two spaces on the map where a Negaverse GQ/GK is not guarding; can my character escape? - You could try, but the GQ/GK are guarding the perimeter and can move. If you attempt to leave, ICly you may suffer extreme consequences. Similarly, you can attack a GQ/GK but this is ill advised as they do not seem to presently be attacking.

Sava Knight of Cosmos

Truth be told, Sava hadn’t really planned on coming. She still didn’t know if this was a good idea, and she hadn’t really done anything to talk to any of their...unearthly visitors, but...when she got the message that it was time and where to meet, she powered down, dashed off a quick text to Melz and powered up once again.

Of course, Melz must be getting the message too but...still.

It was always better to hear such things from a friend.

As the Cosmos Knight approached, she felt a small sense of dread, her eyes skimming over the assembled forces...God. It felt like this was nothing more than an alien invasion, no matter how excited the one was being...but…

She folded her arms across her chest, fingers gripping her staff tightly.

If this worked...it would be a wonderful thing...if it didn’t. Well. Playing whack-a-mole with some aliens didn’t seem like such a bad idea...

Fae-Fae

The sight of Commodore Lyndin, with his grim expression, inspired conflicting emotions. His face clearly communicated that there was possible danger ahead. A possible fight. Fae-Fae had never truly seen battle. She'd only undergone training and simulation to prepare for it. The training had been quite difficult, and she knew the whole time going through it that a real fight would be even moreso.

So she was anxious. She was so sure everyone could see her legs shivering. It was so intense it was hard to stand.

At the same time, both of her heroes were here. Lyndin had never lost anyone on a mission. Caedus had fought through impossible odds on this planet and been victorious. They had the perfect combination of leaders for this mission. Their presence felt like a guarantee of safety.

No matter what unexpected developments they would face -- no matter what the enemy might have in store for them -- they would be victorious.

Any other outcome was unthinkable.

Einhornhöhle - Page of Cosmos

Melody received the message shortly after getting home from the grocery store. “s**t,” she sighed heavily then quickly put the food in the fridge. Once everything was put away she grabbed her side bag and keys then got back into her car to drive near enough to the designated location that it wouldn’t take much effort to walk the rest of the way.

Dread still filled her heart and tied her guts into so many knots it almost made her sick when she took a sharp turn too fast.

Still, she came. Not because she thought that she’d be of any actual help. But rather to be there as support for Sava knowing that this thing they were all doing toed a morally grey line for a lot of them. Cosmos never showed, never offered an opinion or advice on the current happenings and so they were left to use their best judgment.

Einhornhohle was of the mind to retreat to her wonder when the battle happened, to be as far away as possible in case this plan, this unknown and untested alien technology backfired and took out Destiny City along with the Chaos they sought to destroy. Not exactly a knightly thing to think but self-preservation was high on the list of things to consider when she had no magic of her own to use and the tea-light lantern offered little in the way of defense.

“Hey,” Ein flattened the creases in her lavender-colored dress as she stood beside Sava, an image of a bridesmaid next to a beautiful bride. “Aside from the notice, has anything else happened. Or is everyone just waiting to see how many show up?”

Andreiya

It was cool outside, but Andreiya felt cold. He hadn’t been able to muster up the ability to speak since they’d begun deconstructing their base. It was strange to think that they were going into a would-be battle. He’d trained, he’d sparred. That was fun, but it was safe. He’d picked a long distance weapon for a reason and the idea of actual combat scared him.

Naturally, his face had settled into a scowl at the thought of being afraid, but it was short lived. His worry outweighed his pride and insecurity, and his brows were knit and he just radiated uncertainty. He kept playing with the hem of his shirt and glancing to Lyndin, who looked so cool and collected and--well, unhappy, but. It wasn’t really any great secret that Lyndin never idolized danger. He met it, head-on, but he didn’t rush to find it.

He was just ready when it arrived.

He stood nearer to the group now, as close to Lyndin as he could without being suspicious.

Really, Andreiya knew he didn’t have to worry. Commodore Lyndin was a hero. If anything went wrong, he had a backup plan. He’d never lost anyone! What did Andreiya have to worry about! He was going to see something miraculous, and they were going to save Earth, and they were all going to go back as heroes.

Their first successful mission. And--hopefully--when they went back they’d do so with the knowledge of how to restore Velenia.

His heart soared at that, and he was able to distract himself from all the worry with dreams and fantasies of the future.

They’d be okay, in the end. They just had to get there first.

Super Sailor Cybele

Cybele's brief conversation with Lyndin after the initial meeting had been the last of her contact with the alien visitors. As she'd said, she did not do anything to stand in their way, but she did not do anything to help them, either.

All of her energy stayed in her own body. She wasn't giving any of that up, not with the encounters with the Negaverse that she'd had recently that might have cost her life if she'd been a bit more sluggish. By the way that the alien's dome still seemed to be at the edge of town, and the way that the Negaverse still seemed to be just about everywhere, she assumed that their weapon had not gone off yet.

She wondered, briefly, when it would, but she had other things to concern herself with.

Then, the message came across her phone that she was needed in battle.

Cybele huffed at her screen.

She considered just ignoring the message, but she knew that she had friends and family who would answer it, and if, say, Albireo was there, or Anser, Cybele would be there to watch their backs. She didn't particularly care about the aliens, but she cared about them.

She sprinted towards where the dome had been, ready for chaos, only to find it strangely quiet. The buzzing of the machines made her deeply uncomfortable for reasons she wasn't entirely sure of, and she stood a slight distance away from them.

---

Squire Pendour

Fight.

The word made her insides feel like they were going to crawl out of her body. Fight.

She'd asked about this before she'd given her energy. She'd wanted to make sure that this wasn't going to be some kind of fight, that nobody was going to get hurt or killed. That was why she'd helped.

Only Chaos, only Metallia, was going to be damaged by this device. That was what Lyndin had promised her. Everyone else was going to be saved, or, at the very least, cut off from some level of their destructive power without farther harm.

Now, there was some kind of battle anticipated that would be so bad that they were sending out letters to someone like her asking for help?

What had happened? Had they lied?

Well, hope wasn't lost, yet. As she made her way over to the edge of town, things seemed quiet. She didn't feel any auras. She didn't smell any blood.

Maybe things would be okay, after all. Maybe they just were being careful, or needed more people's energy, or something.

Still, she couldn't help the nerves in her chest as she looked over the devices and the alien forces.

---

Naeria

Naeria looked over the devices with pride. This was it. Setup was complete.

Tonight was going to go in the records as the night that they delivered this living planet, with its Knights and its Senshi and its trees and bumblebees and mushrooms, from the forces of Chaos.

There was still so much that she wanted to learn about Earth, but there would be time for that afterwards.

Tonight, it was time to see what this device could do. There were nerves in the air, especially as some of the humans arrived, seeming as skeptical as Lyndin had anticipated, but Naeria stood tall anyway.

They would see. Lyndin and Caedus would show them, and save their world.

Neryn

It was time. They had done all they could to aid in energy collection, doing their best not to be too judgmental of some of the other Cadets who went galivanting all over the city for 'fun', and kept their head down. That was the way to impress the Commadore and their... allies. Keep their head down and do their work as efficiently as possible.

It was time and Neryn was uncharacteristically nervous. Neryn did not get nerves, they got mildly frustrated and very disgruntled, but never nervous. (This fact was actually false; Neryn had been incredibly nervous during their initiation into the Cadets, but they did not think about that. Ever.) Tonight though - Neryn still couldn't get over the fact that this planet had a 'day/night cycle' - they were nervous. There was a weird hum under their skin, and they were constantly fidgeting. This was the moment of truth, and Neryn was nervous. How could they be nervous, this was going to work. The Commadore had said so.

They could not fail.

Yet, the grim expression on Lyndin's face did not help their nerves. So Neryn waited, fingers twitching where they were clasped behind their back, as their Earthen allies gathered.

Vyn

It was the chill in the air that caused Vyn’s trembling, not anticipation, not nervousness, not something so shameful as fear. He was a member of the Vanguard. He worked hard to become a member of the Vanguard. Anticipation, nervousness, and fear had no place in a moment like this. He should be grim-faced like the Commodore. Solid. Dependable. Capable.

Still, the trembling would not cease, so Vyn did what he could to disguise it. He put himself out of the Commodore’s direct line of sight, hiding behind one of his comrades. He rubbed his arms like he was trying to bring warmth back into them, but he was not successful. The chill remained. The pit in his stomach grew. Perhaps that decadent Earthen pastry he’d eaten for what may very well be his last meal was wreaking havoc upon his digestive system.

No, he was being foolish. The Commodore said this would work, and so it would work. They’d all been diligent. Everything was prepared. It would not be long now…

And if something went wrong, well… Vyn wouldn’t have been welcomed into the Vanguard if he didn’t know how to use his blaster.

Princess Ganymede

Tonight was the night.

Tonight, either their alien visitors would be successful and Metallia would be destroyed, or they would fail. Perhaps, if the latter occurred, it would all go unnoticed, as their presence seemed to so far; perhaps they would be able to stew in their disappointment in peace, and the Velencians would leave, their heads hanging with shame. Perhaps they would return later, with another weapon and another plan. Perhaps they would try again and again, until something proved successful.

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. Ganymede hated the uncertainty. Nothing Caedus or Lyndin said managed to convince her that this would end the way they intended.

She arrived with Valhalla at her side, switching from her Eternal to her Princess form as soon as she was certain her massive aura would be shrouded by their technology. She did not come because she’d decided to help the Velencians; she came to watch and listen, to support her allies in case this bold undertaking should descend into… well… chaos.

“I wish I could be more optimistic,” she muttered, coming to a stop near Cybele.

If she wasn’t already a pessimist, the war would have turned her into one.

Nessaela

Nessaela wasn't sure how she was feeling at the moment. On one hand this was one step closer to maybe finding a way to restore their world of Velenia and do their allies of Earth a favor by eliminating their enemies but the cadet plucked nervously at her ceremonial outfit. Even though there was a good chance that the mission would succeed - inwardly Nessaela could only think of what would happen if things didn't work as they should. Her gaze swept across the base camp - no longer were structures dotted here and there, their home away from home, no - now it was just the generators and that large structure that the generators would power.

She had done well by her comrades and harvested energy as required but she still couldn't believe that she had kept a full source stone of energy for herself - instead of donating the last amount to the machine. No, it was better to be prepared, just in case things went awry. An combination of emotions welled up inside as she took in the sight of Commodore Lyndin & Prince Caedus. The two of them looked like a force to be reckoned with and yet she knew that his highness had just sent out word for their allies to come help and fight. The fact that the barrier was down did make her feel alarmed but she hoped fervently that things would go exactly as planned. Then they could leave Earth and try to figure out how to bring back their own homeworld.

At least this time she remembered to wear proper footwear.

Empyrean, Page of Jupiter

Anticipation began to thrum through the air as they gathered upon the hill.

Or perhaps that was the generators. Empyrean would very much like to study one, but now wasn’t exactly the time for that. Perhaps if the weapon was successful and Chaos was eradicated from the Earth, one of the aliens would be so kind as to allow him a closer look.

For now, Empyrean must content himself with observing. When he learned what little he could simply by looking at the generators, he observed their guests — the young ones who trembled, and the pair of leaders with their differing reactions. He observed his allies, watching them arrive one by one; most of them remained unfamiliar faces, but there would be time to become better acquainted with them later. He observed their surroundings — the night sky, the hill itself, the nature which had been the Velencian’s home for the last several weeks.

Though he’d already mentally prepared himself for the worst, Empyrean allowed himself a few moments of cautious optimism.

Even if they failed in this, they would learn from their mistakes.

Aeleas

Aeleas was standing near Fae-Fae and gently nudged her friend and fellow cadet gently. “You are shaking...this will be okay. We have prepared, we have worked with the people of Earth...I do not see how it could go amiss!”

If there was a chance, wouldn’t both of their leaders be looking grim? The Commodore was obviously just focused on the mission, and Caedus, he knew the land the best. He had worked so hard. They had all worked so hard. “The ones assembling are our friends. No ill will come from this I am sure!”

Her voice held much more confidence than her heart held, and she held her small dagger in a tight grip at her side...just in case. Even if it was useless, even if it had betrayed her several times...it was her chosen weapon, and she was trained as best as she could be.

This was all going to be fine!

Idly she rubbed her arm. “The only thing that I think could go wrong is if we did not collect enough energy! But...I am sure there will be those willing to assist at this late stage if...if that is the issue!”

The words were a very quiet whisper, almost said to herself more so than Fae-Fae.

Aliez

Aliez took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. They had been hand picked to join Commodore Lyndin and King Caedus on this mission. They had trained and prepared and learned all they could about this world. They would accomplish their mission and they would be able to go home and start their new life on their old planet of Velenia as soon as they found a way to awaken it. And wherever the Commodore went, Aliez had already decided he would follow. Whether he decided to live on Velenia, or on Velencya as their homeworld’s new artificial moon.

Fae-Fae looked anxious, and he tried showing her a friendly smile to ease her nerves. They just needed to wait and do their best.

“It will be okay,” he said to her, his voice low so no one else would have to overhear. “You are strong and have overcome so much already, Fae-Fae. I never got to thank you for setting up that wellness check -- our first sunrise. So, thank you,” Aliez said with a warm smile. He was glad that Aeleas was there to try and keep her cheered up at least.

Vyn looked nervous as well, and Aliez took a step closer to him so he could place a gentle hand on his shoulder.

“We should have worn flower crowns for good luck,” he suggested, but it was just an attempt at easing the tension.

Aliez glanced at the other Velencians there, and offered Naeria, Neryn, and Nessaela a smile as well. The smile Andreiya got was a bit brighter, if only because sure they couldn’t find a way to make this even more dramatic than their picnic.

All they had to do now was wait for the comet to be in position and add one more to the list of the Commodore's successful missions.

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

While Ganymede was a pessimist, Valhalla more than made up for it with his optimism. He was certain that this would work. It had to. Everyone was putting so much into it. And even if it didn’t manage to destroy Metallia, they should at least be able to deliver a crippling blow to Chaos in general. Or at least that’s what he hoped so desperately for.

He didn’t want anyone in the Negaverse to die. He’d never wanted that. So many of them were just kids or misguided or brainwashed. If they had a chance to break them of that Chaos, then maybe things would slowly start to change. They just needed a chance and the Velencians brought that with them.

“Just remember to breathe,” he suggested to Ganymede and smiled at Cybele who was also looking rather dour.

“If this works, we’re going to be indebted to you. Hopefully we can help figure out a way to help you restore your world in exchange,” Valhalla said with another smile to Lyndin and Caedus as he approached with Ganymede.

He hadn’t seen all of the Velencians before, but he was a little surprised to see that they all looked so young. They looked nervous, but maybe that was because this was a strange world to them. He hoped Earth would be a little more welcoming once the Chaos that Metallia caused was under control.
