From Dusk 'till Dawn

Covid Journal Days 1-6
So, lucky me...fighting round 2 when it comes to Covid-19.

You know, I have actually been pretty lucky so far when it comes to this Pandemic. I got Covid really early (at the end of 2019) before everything locked down and it was the most sick I had ever been in my life. That really set the tone for me on how I really needed to start looking after my health a lot more. There's a level of helplessness there that I never wanted to head back to...when no medicine's are working and you're always online googling remedies and anything to make you feel better. I'm already a big baby when I'm sick, but my depression makes it 10x worse along with my anxiety, and after weeks of being ill you just start thinking: "Is this my new normal?" , "Will I ever get better?"

But, the reason I say that I'm lucky is that for as sick as I was, like I said, it started to make me focus on my health a lot more...and likewise, it showed me that even in what seems like the worse situations, a type of "normal" is always possible, even if it takes time. Even though I had Covid, I still didn't have it as bad as people like my Sister who suffers from Long-Covid, and clearly I am better off than the people that ended up in the ER and ICU.

I got vaccinated as soon as I could and was fully vaccinated by the mid year of 2021 --- but, I work in a place with a massive covid outbreak and people that come into work sick all the time sooooooo...guess I'm not surprised that it finally got me.

arrow Day One: I knew something was wrong when I went to sleep for only 6 hours and woke up with a throat that was super itchy and burning. This was the same thing that had happened last time I got covid, and then I started to develop an occasional cough towards the night's end.

arrow Day Two: Was actually more of the same. I had an increased cough, started to get a runny nose. Had bad fatigue but went to work anyways because on day two, my work gave me a rapid test for covid and it was actually negative (not that they do it properly though).

arrow Day Three: Started to have symptoms of fever, increased cough, and horrible body aches. I called into work and decided to call a doctor if I saw no improvement (since cold symptoms peak after 3 days and then are supposed to start fading).

arrow Day Four-Five: Saw no improvement on the fourth day and so called a doctor. He said to treat it like covid until further notice and gave me a few more days off of work to see if there was any improvements the following day. I had been taking Delsum and Nyquil and found that both really acted up with my anxiety and also had been taking Afrin but that can only be taken 3 days. On the fifth day, choking fits started...most likely due to nasal drip. Noticed white streaks on my tonsils, feared strep or some other infection so decided I would go to urgent care. Sore throat had gotten worse again and choking fits made it impossible to sleep whereas before, sleeping was not an issue. Head still under a lot of pressure as are ears and nose.

arrow Day Six: Normal dry cough not as frequent, throat still extremely sore especially on left side that feels like its raw. Choking fits continue but maybe not as frequently. Still unable to sleep and headaches and earaches still going on. Went to urgent care, tested negative for step but tested positive for covid. I explained choking fits and how they affected my anxiety and affected bladder control...basically was told I just need to ride it out. Vitals were all clear and was told I need to stay home for 10 days. Got new meds to try even though they arent offering much relief if any.

-------------

Right now the doctor has me trying out a steroid to try and clear out my lungs. I can eat just fine, I just dont have an appetite. The choking fits dont make me nauseous and I haven't really experienced any nausea, but I don't have the urge to eat either. I have been drinking fluids, trying honey, using lozenges etc for minor symptoms...but literally I get no relief from any of it. Since I can't use the Afrin, I have switched to Flonase and that at least has helped somewhat with congestion. I have had minor fevers for a few days but tylenol keeps that under control. Body aches arent terrible, and I use a humidifier but not sure if it's doing anything. My biggest issue is being able to sleep. The choking fits keep me from doing a lot as far as resting and relaxing...so I have tried to keep myself busy in the simplest ways possible (like typing, gaming, etc). But I do have some of that covid brain-fog and lack of motivation bc I'm sick. So there's that.

Doctor says I can technically go back to work in 5 days if I am without symptoms. but I am taking the full 10. I am not gonna rush back to work bc my health is important...and besides, knowing how badly I handle illness, I'm not even sure ten days is enough to start getting over some of these things. But, we will see.

Hopefully it stays as mild as it has because I'm breathing fine...
Any thoughts and good vibes are much appreciated.
