Violin || Gerard’s mother was always insistent that he be “well-rounded” for his college applications, and in truth, he did develop a genuine love for music through violin practice. He still plays occasionally, as a matter of stress relief, though he rarely performs publicly. He also enjoys attending symphony concerts, given the opportunity.
High Fashion || Specifically of the high-quality variety. It’s only a little about brand pretension—a man in Gerard’s line of work has to make an impression, after all—but mainly, it’s about wanting to have the best quality. Gerard likes clothes, likes shopping for them, likes carefully selecting them. He likes looking good and making a good impression. And following fashion makes for an entertaining hobby, anyway. Also, he will judge the ******** out of everyone at the Met Gala every year. Honestly, be interesting.
Food and Wine || Not the kind that’s expensive for the sake of it, though. Gerard abhors pretentious displays of opulent wealth, but actual fine food and wine that’s expensive because it’s quality? That’s the good stuff. And in truth, as long as it’s good, it doesn’t have to be expensive. Gerard has patronized several specific hole-in-the-wall restaurants for years because their quality is, in his opinion, unmatched. The point is to enjoy, and Gerard loves to enjoy.
Virtues:
Professional || Gerard may be a ruthless, cutthroat b*****d, but he’s also steadfastly professional about everything he does. It’s all business, even the things that really ought not to be—but that means that he comes across as polite and easy to work with in most settings, which is exactly he image he wants to give off. It’s all about careful curation of perception, as far as Gerard is concerned, and he’s a master of it.
Discerning || Gerard has an eye for quality—be it in people or things, he wants the best, and so he’ll look for it. He’s careful, thoughtful, and selective, whether he’s choosing a restaurant to meet a client at for lunch, a new intern, or just a replacement suit jacket for court. It all matters, and Gerard wants it all as perfect as he can make it.
Flaws:
Cutthroat || Gerard will betray, step on, and undermine anyone to get what he wants. About the only people he’ll never screw over are his clients (zealous representation!) but just about anyone else is fair game. Life’s a game, we’re all playing, and Gerard is playing to win.
Unattached || Really, everything is business for Gerard, including, often, relationships. There’s a reason that he’s never been in one that’s lasted longer than a few months: he’s absolutely garbage at connecting with other people. Feelings are ridiculous things, anyway, and he hates them and doesn’t want these. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them, it just means that he’s emotionally constipated and completely out of touch with them.
