One day, Nymphe reflected, she would learn to think before dashing into potential danger.
She'd caught the Chaotic energy signature a few blocks back. And like an idiot had chosen to follow it to its source. With no plan in place for how to deal with whatever she found at the end of this particular crap rainbow to boot. Would she fight? Would she talk? She supposed that, ultimately, it would depend on the person she ended up facing. Thus far, she hadn't really come across any talkers.
Or at least talkers that didn't start issuing threats as a way of saying hello. She wasn't sure if she hoped that this time would prove different or not. There was comfort, after all, in reliability.

Draining energy was so...easy. Perhaps Diaboleite should have experienced more conflicted emotions about it, but he'd stepped over more people on the way to power than he cared to count, and honestly, drained energy was far less than he'd done in the past.
Whatever was necessary for the appropriate outcome.
He let the man he was draining from slump, lowering him onto a bench, and only then did he notice the strange itch of something...bright on his senses. He was still acclimating to the entire concept of sensing auras, but that had to be what this was, and so he sighed and tucked his ball of energy into subspace, turning to face whoever was coming for him.
"Can we be civilized about this?" He asked, with very little expectation. The other side seemed to draw some sort of moral line about the whole thing. Annoying. People were never less rational than when they got morality involved.

For a moment, Nymphe hoped. But the evidence before her eyes indicated that this was someone who probably was not going to be particularly nice. Mouth thinning as she did her best to control her gag reflex, the senshi wordlessly studied everything before her and then turned her eyes to the officer asking if they could be civilized.
For a moment, she stared at him, a sort of disgusted pity in her eyes. She gave her head a tiny shake, though whether it was in answer to his question of to clear her own thoughts was open to debate.
“I think it would depend on how you define civilized,” she said softly. “And based upon what I can see, I think our definitions are very different.”
She was proud of her response since her voice betrayed none of her unease. What she had wanted, very badly in fact, to say was that he was disgusting and deserved to be eaten by a draughr for his crimes. But she had maintained politeness. This one didn’t feel the same as the officer with the crossbow either. So she was hopeful that if this became more physical, she at least wouldn’t be shot at.

Ah, yes, there it was. The visceral disgust. The cold stare. The kind of look activist types at political fundraisers gave you when you told them you were in corporate law.
Diaboleite wished he had wine to swirl while looking down on her. Alas, no such luck, and all he could do was twirl his pen between his fingers and look as unimpresed and unaffected as possible.
"They likely are. But there's no need for violence. I've already taken what I intend to take from him, and you can't recover it. So the easiest solution for both of us is if you turn around and walk away."
Unlikely, of course. The righteous types never took the easy, safe out. But, well, he would simply have to ignore any qualms about doing violence on someone smaller than him and take her down.

The total non-concern on display took her aback, though she maintained rigid control over her face so that none of her thoughts would be on display and betray her. She couldn't understand how any person could be so... nonchalant about things like this. It made no sense at all.
Moving carefully and methodically towards the fallen victim, she ignored the officer for a moment. Knelling beside the bench where the man lay, she placed gentle finger tips against his throat, checking for a pulse. It was there but weak and thready. But he was alive. So, he could be helped. Maybe even by her own magic, though she wasn't sure since it didn't... give energy back per se. Still, she could experiment later. But first things first.
Not bothering to turn her head, Nymphe's voice was steel as she addressed the officer.
"I will thank you to not speak to me as if I am stupid. Condescending airs endear you to no one."
Only then did she rise out of her crouch and turn to study the officer with hooded eyes.
"Explain yourself, if you would be so kind," she demanded gently. "Explain why you think it is okay and good to actively and willingly cause harm. I have heard reasons ranging from some thinking it is funny to others thinking they are somehow defending the world from intergalactic invasion. So. I would have your reasoning."
Nymphe didn't move, didn't let a single expression flicker across her face. This officer was an odd one. He seemed more closed in than the others had. For now, she just wanted to hear how he would explain this. Then, perhaps she could figure out the best way forward.
Noir Songbird she's not feeling attacky yet so i have no idea what's happening XD;;;

There was nothing to be gained from impeding the Senshi from confirming that his draining victim was still alive. Let her be assured that he wasn't doing anything more nefarious than was immediately apparent.
"I'm not trying to endear myself to you," he said, flatly. "But you have demonstrated that you're less of a righteous fool than I'd thought, so I apologize for assuming." That was for work, where he had to charm clients. This was not his day job.
"Harm is relative," Diaboleite said, "and it is, as one might say, my job. I have been assigned to collect energy by my superiors, in order to fuel the Negaverse's continued operation and existence. There are broader goals, of course, but as far as I'm concerned, it's a simple business transaction."
And he wasn't necessarily unfamiliar with causing harm with his work. No one liked a shark.

”And who said I was the one who wished to find you endearing?” she retorted softly, eyes glittering slightly. Her eyebrow raised slightly over being called a righteous fool, but she still held her peace and listened. And found herself wishing that she’d opted to just punch him in the face first thing. To be so completely unaffected… Well.
She had asked for his reasons and he had complied politely enough. To hear hurting people reduced to nothing more than a business transaction was a new one, though and she suddenly found herself nostalgic for the crossbow wielding officer’s attitude. He, at the least, did more than just following what he was told. Or so she had to assume. Well, at least, he’d seemed like he thought for himself a bit more. Who could even say with people like this.
Considering for a moment longer, she turned her back on the officer and moved to scoop the civilian up into her arms. While she was not exactly small, she was still only on the thinner side of average. If it weren’t for her being a senshi and getting a boost physically, she’d never have been able to manage this so easily. And right now, the unconscious man needed her more than she needed to argue over morals with someone who so very clearly had none.
Taking a moment to shift slightly and adjust her grip so she and her passenger would be comfortable, she turned back and eyed the officer coolly.
“I think I prefer the reasoning of your peers,” she finally said, voice flat. “They, at least, still seem human. You think me a fool and maybe you are right. I see it more that I am knowing when to pick my battles and the life of a non-combatant is not worth the opportunity to slap you across your silly face.”
She considered running then, but decided she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. Instead, she walked normally, radiating calm dignity. Her job was to make sure the life she carried, quite literally, wasn’t lost. If the officer chose to attack her, then she would fight. But right now, she had other responsibilities to consider.
”Noir Songbird” send help, she has a mind of her own XD

Diaboleite simply shrugged. He wasn't exactly looking to make friends with this endeavor; that wasn't the purpose. His cousin had recruited him to a war to protect their home, a burden that Alexandre had carried alone for far too long. Now, he got to share it.
And that meant that everything came back to a simple question.
Was he advancing the cause of the Newgaverse? If yes, he had no problem doing whatever he needed to.
"You may prefer whatever you like," he said, flatly, stepping out of her way. He'd gotten what he needed, there was no reason to let his pride get him into a fight that he didn't need to have. "And if you're a fool, you're at least one who makes the occasional smart choice."
He turned on his heel. There was more to be done, and no reason to entangle himself further here.eldritch stardust WE TRIED?? alas they were simply too reasonable
