Diaboleite was starting to expect that any encounter he had with the "other side," so to speak, was going to end in violence. It seemed to simply be the way of things--they wanted to fight, barring a small number who were able to be reasonable.

It was, honestly, cliche at this point. He let his latest draining victim wander away, looking confused and tired, and dropped onto the nearby park bench, twirling his fountain pen and briefly wishing he smoked, because it would sort of complete the image of bored expectation.

Alas, he hated the smell, the taste, and every aspect of cigarettes. Tragic. He would have to make due with looking Over It in every other possible way.

Amateru didn't often go out on patrol—usually only when the guilt of doing nothing all the time became unbearable, and even then, he wasn't often out long. He felt terrible, taking advantage of living with the kind Ida Knight Sonora, while barely doing any work to keep his new home safe. He wasn't a very good friend, or senshi, barely even able to handle having a job as Cyrus to help with his additional living costs in the home.

For the most part, when he finally convinced himself to rise from bed and actually patrol, he did a poor job of it, mostly dodging any fights that might occur and more or less... simply taking a walk, at night, as Amateru.

Tonight, he was so wrapped up in his foggy little thoughts, that he didn't feel the aura of the Lieutenant until he was just several feet from the guy at the park bench. He snapped to attention, stiffening, tail lashing behind him as he looked at the Lieutenant warily. He didn't seem to be doing anything... much like Amateru himself.

"Hello," he said a bit awkwardly.

Ah. This was another alien. Diaboleite frowned, ever so slightly, taking him in. Tall, close to Diaboleite's own height, and built strongly, so more than a physical match for him. Unfortunate, if this came to a fight. But he didn't seem to be moving aggressively--tense, yes, but not aggressive.

So perhaps this would be another rare civilized encounter with the "enemy."

Diaboleite relaxed his posture just a little. Something slightly more open, so that he seemed, perhaps, less offputting at first glance.

"Hello," he greeted, twirling his pen between his fingers. "Lovely evening, isn't it?"

A little small talk never hurt anyone, certainly.

Amateru smiled slightly and bowed his head just a little at the standard sort of greeting—at least it didn't make him feel vile. Or provoke a fight. Plus, he was genuinely always happy to discuss the weather.

"Oh yes. A bit cold—" Which was an understatement "—but I like it that way. My planet... became a never ending summer. In the bad sort of way, where the heat leeches everything outta ya and you could practically bake a cake just by standin' outside and holdin' the pan. Watching seasons change again has been wonderful."

It felt almost surreal, to be sitting on a park bench listening to a literal cow-man talk about the weather on a faraway planet. In a folksy accent that would have put him right at home in the American Midwest. Dialectical convergent evolution, apparently. Or, in other words, Space Kansas seemed to exist, and this man seemed to be from there.

"Sounds atrocious," Diaboleite acknowledged. Also soudned like where good old Earth was headed, but, well, that was none of his business unless he was on a lawsuit about it. "So did you come to Earth for the better weather, then? I suppose we must be a vacation destination by comparison."

What a wild thought. Perhaps UFO sightings were simply magical warriors from outer space dropping in like college students in Cancun on spring break. Or perhaps there was something else going on, Diaboleite wouldn't pretend to know for certain. Not without more evidence.

Amateru gave him a wry grin. "Sort of." He went quiet for a long moment, then gestured to the bench. "Mind if I sit? I'm not so good at standing up for too long."

Standing for the machines that took the life from him had been his punishment when he'd "been bad" for his kidnappers. Most of the time, he got to sit while it leeched from him, to be bottled and sold, but his punishments had come often, and at incredibly long periods that nowadays left him shaking. Of course he could endure it. But it didn't hurt to get to sit, whenever he could. And he doubted this man would hurt him. They seemed to be having a pleasant conversation.

And if the man thought he was weak, well. If he turned and attacked, he would find out very differently, though Amateru prayed he wouldn't. At the Lieutenant's assent, he sat on the bench rather heavily, exaggerating it just a little.

"Name's Amateru, by the way. You, uh... Wanna know the real reason I'm here? Because I can really only speculate." He shrugged. "I know you folk are all about information keeping. And what I say, I say freely. No conditions like 'go home, stop hurtin' people'. I know I ain't gonna get that. Not to mention that's hellatiously rude."

He gave the Lieutenant a quick grin. "And you're such a polite fella. What kinda manners would that be?"

Diaboleite wasn't entirely comfortable sharing a bench with the ostensible enemy, but then, here was nothing to say that he wasn't allowed to gather information. And surely these aliens were ideal to gather said information from. Even if they weren't familiar with what was going on on Earth--and if they were visitors or new arrivals, they certainly couldn't be expected to--they still had to know things.

"Diaboleite," he offered, which only seemed fair. Meet a courtesy with a courtesy. "And if you'd like to tell me, I'd be happy to know, But do be aware I'll pass off mwhatever you say to my superiors, if it's useful to us."

Meeting his courtesy with a courtesy of Diaboleite's own: the honesty that he was not going to keep this conversation a secret.

"If that doesn't work for you, we can just sit here for a while. Or you can and I'll simply move on."

Amateru nodded. "I wouldn't expect anythin' less," he said quietly, a faraway look in his eyes. "Not sure how much you know about us aliens and how we come here, but I suspect it's not much. If I'm wrong, forgive me for beginnin' at... well, the beginnin'."

Taking a deep breath, he began to talk. He didn't speak much about his chlidhood or anything like that, no—he began with when the first Chaos meteor had struck Amateru.

How the maddening rage sickness began shortly after. How the days got hotter and hotter, until even the rage sickness slowed. Not by much, but enough. And only because by the time someone got it, the heat assisted in killing them. The sickness and the heat cooking them alive.

How Amateru himself thought he'd gotten sick. Fallen asleep. Woke, a thousand years later, perfectly hale, to a dead planet and a wish on a star that brought him to Earth. Emphasized that a humid eighty-five degrees Farenheit at nighttime had nearly sent him into cold shock, to illustrate how hot his planet had gotten.

"Chaos kills," he ended quietly. "I suspect that's not dissimilar from every other alien's story."

Groaning a little, he rose from the bench, rubbing at his lower back. "Guess I shouldn't be sittin' on hard surfaces, either. Well." Without thinking too much about it, his tail reached out and slapped Diabolite's knee. A rather normal goodbye gesture, at least where he'd been from on his planet. "Time for me to get to bed. It ain't easy, being over a thousand years old."

He gave Diaboleite a little joking grin and headed off, tail swishing in the grass behind him.
