Personality:
At a glance, these two would appear remarkably similar; both are withdrawn, careful, morally ambiguous, and don’t typically initiate interaction.
However, they differ drastically beneath the surface.
Jeraldo, for instance is much more social, and willing to talk. He’s laid back, but he’s still reactive, and he’ll usually carry a conversation so long as it’s being upheld on the other side. Despite his line of work, he prefers to avoid more nasty or cruel actions, and would prefer to sedate someone, than outright kill them. His patience depends, often, on his mood, and how annoying someone is being; if they’re not trying, he’s more patient, but if they don’t care, or they are trying, he won’t hesitate to cut them down or knock them out of his way. He comes off as apathetic, but he’s not. He’s aloof, but he can be charming, and has been known to just lean back and flirt for the fun of it. Heck, he’s even been known to show off—but that usually back fires, and he’s pretty much learned to stop doing that (sort of). He’s intelligent and has an innate sense of physics, but any time he’s trying to show off or do more than he needs to, something usually, somehow, goes wrong, and he ends up looking like an idiot.
Trey, meanwhile, doesn’t talk. He plays the “shy” card well, and he often pretends to be mute, but he’s neither. He was raised in the “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” sort of way, but the way his parents taught it to him, it felt more like “Say something, and if it’s not nice, then lie.” Eventually, he got sick of lying, and he just stopped talking. He’s more cynical than most know; usually, he just comes off as wary or reserved, maybe just withdrawn. He usually has Jeraldo translate for him, and just uses sign language, to keep up the act, and try and stave off interaction. Typically, he can be found just sitting off somewhere, his back to the world, headphones on, drawing in some artbook. Nothing makes him open up faster than a dark joke.
History:
Jer’s family has the sparkling title of “ex-ninja thieves”. They were initially part of a clan of those trained in the art of stealth, but differences in… priorities, and objectives, led them to “part ways”. Jerald was aware of his parents interests, and had kept fairly distant, even as a child; he pretty much knew what was coming, so his whole response to it is basically a shrug. The only thing they left behind was some bad vibes, an unwanted stuffed toy, and a box of scrolls with the clan’s teachings.
Trevor had a more… lively up bringing. Fairly normal, if not for his eccentric parents. They…. Very rarely took anything seriously. They were the sort of chill parents most kids wished they had, though would have likely been embarrassed by if they did. Trevor rarely was. He accepted them for who they were, and when they choreographed dances to hyper up-beat J-pop songs, he relented to being dragged into it. He’d even willingly join, neutral-faced as ever, when he was in the right mood. They tolerated his growing antisocial behavior, described him as an “independent spirit”. His father was initially excited at his son’s enthusiasm for art, less so when he realized it wasn’t directed towards architecture (his own personal career). His mom designed elaborate art projects for them to do, which often went…. Interestingly. They both encouraged his natural talent to some degree, and left him on his own often. He had very few qualms with how he was raised, save… one thing.
How these two ended up traveling together is still pretty hotly debated between the two, but suffice it to say that Trey happened to catch Jeraldo in the middle of a job, and now holds it over his head to convince him to come and translate for him. It works out well enough in that Jeraldo has informed him he won’t be stopping his work, just hitting places wherever they travel, and Trey… pretty much shrugged in response.
