Trey's heart was still beating hard, but he was slowly relaxing. And he was feeling the thrill of that performance. He couldn't take any credit, at all, for Carona's combo success, but knowing that he was working with such an incredible pokemon, that he was going to get to train with it, to work together and become better, and improve their performances... It made his heart leap. Few things made Trey so happy as the potential to be creative, and really push the boundaries. He settled himself down and moved forward as he was motioned for, actually smiling, just so faintly, as he did.
He gave a grateful bow to the audience, then straightened, and turned to the MC to receive his prizes. He made a ASL sign to express his gratitude, before he returned to his pokemon. He looked up at Carona, hovering, and when the pokemon's gaze finally turned to him, he took a moment to appraise it's response. It seemed... content. The pokemon was even less expressive than he was, but it didn't look quite as detached as it had before. He smiled, reached up, and very lightly touched it's white fur in gratitude, before turning to leave. "Uh... hey!" He blinked and turned at the call, to see Todd coming over, an awkward smile on his face. "Just wanted to say congratulations. That combo was pretty cool," he said, holding a hand out. Trey nodded in appreciation and shook his hand, and after casting one last look at Carona, moved to step off the stage. But, he had a feeling they'd be back here pretty soon.

Vince snorted softly as Olivia teasingly asked if he could do more than soup and sandwiches. "No, I'm afraid my talents are limited to those categories, but given the right ingredients you'd be surprised at how fancy of a sandwich I can make. Hamburgers are technically a fancy sandwich right?" He was joking. Mostly. Nainai would have a fit if her favorite sous chef only knew how to cook from a can and put deli meat between bread. Still, as Olivia said she looked forward to cooking with his family, Vince couldn't help but look forward to it too.
He chuckled as Olivia played along with him, pondering the mystery of how she was so likable, but his light chuckle turned into a full guffaw as he covered his mouth when she made a deeply frowning face. "Much better." He couldn't say that with a straight face, snickering a bit.
Vince nodded as Trey confirmed via JR that the seals were only a one time use. He peeled off the worn sticker and tossed it in a nearby trash can, mentally reminding himself that he'd need to replace it whenever he did another contest. He briefly also noted that he may need to shop for more seals at some point. "Mm... I was told water types were a good choice." He agreed. "Ah.... Thank you, but... Well, I had a lot of help. I think that's really what allowed us to win." He scratched his head sheepishly, looking to Yue. "Well I'm glad you recognize that at least. Lance and Aurora would have made a fool out of you if Olive and I hadn't stepped in." Yue insisted with a self-satisfied nod. ”Yes, yes, thank you.” Vince chuckled and shook his head.
The machine rang out, indicating that their batch of poffins was finished, and Trey divided the batch between them. Vince took his pair and stored them away for now. While Wei He was his beauty contest winner now, he had picked the kingdra due to time constraints. If he really wanted to strategize things, he needed to save the poffins for a pokemon he knew would stay as a beauty contestant. Trey, on the other hand, seemed to have this already planned out, releasing a beautiful volcarona to feed his poffins to. Vince watched in awe, realizing that perhaps he was a little out of his league compared to most coordinators. If this was the standard, then he supposed he could understand why Lance was so angry with him. How infuriating it must have felt for a nobody like Vince to waltz in and assume he could win a contest when people like Trey were this dedicated just starting out. However, it was just a beginners contest, and it wasn't as if Vince was taking this lightly. He was willing to admit he knew next to nothing and he wanted to learn. It was that sort of attitude that seemed to sway Yue into helping him.
Vince turned his attention back to JR as he translated Trey's well wishes and offer of advice on anything, along with a number so that they could communicate. "I'll be sure to get in contact if I have any questions. Thank you. Good luck with your upcoming contest." He nodded, inputting Trey's number into his xtransceiver before sending Trey a quick text, waving them both farewell and heading out, making sure the two lupup were in tow.
Xiu Feng tilted her head as Blue insisted the poffins looked wierd. ('Do they? I dunno. They're colorful, like berries, but they look soft kinda like bread. Like they're berry bread!') She suggested, licking her lips at the thought. Her tail wagged as Cherish offered to play, pawing playfully back at the gekkit, but it seemed their trainers were wrapping up and parting ways. ('Yeah! Next time for sure.') She agreed before bounding after Vince.
It didn't take long to spot the familiar flash of pink hair out on the docks, and once Vince spotted Olivia, he jogged over with a wave to catch her attention. "Hey! I'm not too late am I?" He asked with a light smile, taking his ticket and quickly boarding their ride before the boat took off. "So... Lillycove.... Isn't that another Hoenn city that's popular with contests...?" He wondered out loud. "Not just any popular contest hall, Vince. Lilycove is where master rank contests are often held. It is the contest city. The crown jewel of contests." Yue explained. Vince raised his eyebrows in mild surprise. "Well, I'll have to check it out sometime. Probably not this time around though, I think I'm all contested out... Heh..." He chuckled. "Besides, I'm more excited to see Fortree anyways." He looked to Olivia with a small smile. "I believe I promised a certain pinkette a picnic. Plus now I feel the need to show off my non-sandwich making culinary skills for some reason. Maybe because someone called rank on me. I don't know." He shrugged with a sidelong smile.

Trey was able to relish in his victory for most of the day, but as it wound down, and he ushered the pokemon into a room after dinner, things started to hint at a more sour turn. Shade was.... difficult to round up. Cherish was, as usual, batting the fluffball around, tackling and playing with it, but he was able to call him off. When he did, though, Shade would hop at Cherish, lightly bouncing against him, and instigate the play. Honestly, at first, Trey let it be-- he hadn't even realized Shade had been as invested in it, he just thought Cherish was having his own fun. When it started to be a bit much, though, and Trevor was trying to focus on studying up on contests, he called it off again, and this was when it started becoming apparent that Shade.... wasn't listening to him. Even when he directly told him not to, the fluffball would stare, that one, colorful eye, right at him, and it would blink, and then turn and resume bouncing at Cherish.
It was.... annoying. And it was worrisome. He moved to put Shade on the bed, and kept Cherish on the ground-- Shade just rolled to the edge of the bed, and leaped whatever distance was necessary to land on his friend, and instigate the game again. So Trey tried putting Shade on the ground, and putting Cherish in his lap while he worked, and for a while, that was successful. Shade stared for a long time, and Trey tried to block him out, before it... attacked Trey. It used Confuse Ray, and Trey immediately moved his chair back from the desk as the room started spinning. Shade used the opportunity to leap up and knock off Cherish from his lap. The only positive was that this time, Cherish didn't respond to the playing, and detached himself from Shade, curiously moving around to gekker up at his disoriented trainer. Letting out a shrill, disarming cry, Trey snapped out of it, wincing, but reaching up as he closed his eyes. "Thanks, Cher," was all he managed as he opened one eye to glance down at the pokemon. And that was the end of Shade being out of his pokeball.

Even with Shade in his pokeball, however, things didn't seem to completely smooth over. Volcarona was acting a bit more.... distant than usual, a little more lofty, a bit less attentive. Trey had to repeat himself a few times to get the pokemon's attention, and it was putting him on edge. He went to bed irritated, and unnerved, and had a very hard time getting any sleep. He woke up early, exhausted, and in a terrible mood, but determined to work with his pokemon. He was going to win another contest today-- he had to, but they needed to practice first. He wasn't going to take any chances; if he didn't win this, his pokemon might start disobeying him, and he was going to have to use volcarona, who was on the cusp of doing so already, it seemed. He had his winnings from his contest, and he planned on spending all of them on more supplies. And at least half of the day with Carona, perfecting his basics. Unless he had to, he wasn't going to risk a combo with a borderline-obedient pokemon.

Skipping breakfast, Trey headed straight for the closest item and appeal shop. He had some supplies, grooming and otherwise, but he wanted to pick up more accessories, more that he could use for Carona's performance and presentation. It took up just about all of his winnings, but it was worth it, and checking his watch, he trudged back to the pokecenter to let his pokemon eat, while he scoured through his books, one hand pushed up into his green hair as his eyes swept the page. It didn't even occur to him to think about JR's whereabouts-- it seemed natural he wouldn't see the guy much, unless it was important. Though usually he still checked in... But it was too far from his mind, and his focus was entirely on preparing for his next contest.

It only took a couple hours to practice. He made a quick trip upstairs, too tired and focused to react to anything, from the people around him, to the lady he bumped into on his way up, to anything in his room besides the things he needed to grab. With his collections gathered, he packed it all away and made it to the contest hall to sign up for another contest. He got a bit of a look, perhaps from his flat expression and stifled yawn, but ignored it. By now, they were starting to recognize him, and not expecting much in the way of words. He dragged himself to the prep room, but took a moment to sit down, Cherish hopping up onto his lap and gekkering curiously. He warily reached up to pet the pokemon's head, rubbing his ears and stifling a yawn, before moving him off his lap and standing. "C'mere, Carona. Need ta get you ready..." he mused, rubbing his neck as he grabbed some of the supplies.
Deciding to save some supplies, Trey gave his pokemon a quick wash just using some shampoo (it wasn't like Carona had manage to get much dirt on himself anyway). Once dry, he used some of the make up he'd bought to accentuate the pokemon's colors and designs, adding some shine and highlights. He slipped the headband on and clipped the Bow to it. He moved around to weave the streamers in behind the pokemon, so that when he was released, and kicked up the heat, they would flare out behind and wave in the air. With that all situated, he recalled the pokemon, considering a moment about putting on the seal he still had, but deciding to hold off. He might need to do a quatro contest soon, and he had a feeling he wouldn't be able to get any poffins before then, so he'd better save it.

Why was he so tired? Why was he so wary? Trey wanted to be enthused for this contest, but his lack of sleep, hsi concern over his pokemon, and the gnawing hunger in his stomach was seriously subtracting from it. He shook his head as he stepped up onto stage, though, having recalled Cherish for the contest, and prepared himself. His opponent was... Taz, who he was pretty sure he'd competed against before, though at the moment, his memory was a little.... fuzzy on when, and why. The dragonair he definitely hadn't seen before, and he was a little awed when it was released with a flurry of shimmering water, but he was fairly sure that Carona's presentation, with the billowing streamers, and shimmering hot air around him, was just as impressive. Maybe more? Hopefully... Honestly, with how tired he was, he was proud of how well the pokemon's appearance -- especially the make up -- had turned out. He would need to do something to try and make it a little less cluttered, so he could use more items, next time.
The Performance round began, and they fell into their same routine, but once again, as they progressed, things were looking dangerous. Trey did not feel confident to even risk a combo, though. This might have been even closer than the other one, but he just couldn't risk it. He was too tired, and they hadn't practiced. Even in the next contest, he wasn't sure he was willing to risk it. And given how things were going, he wasn't even sure they would be ready for their next contest. Maybe he ought to practice at this level more before buffing things up further...
His anticipation for trying to climb the ranks continued to sink as they were called a tie, and he looked down with a hollow stare. He had... barely studied up on the battle aspects of contests. Of course, for him, 'barely' meant a good amount, but still, they hadn't practiced it. He knew what moves did what and how things translated but.... Raising his gaze up, he tried to start thinking through a strategy, but he wasn't nearly prepared. He threw up the first half, trying to give himself time-- and watched in awe as Carona again showed a natural talent, elegantly battling, throwing up fire and a light shield, twirling through the stage. Trey was so fatigued, he felt a bit like he might be dreaming, and he was still staring in awe when the final outcome was called.

She waited a moment, drawing out the anticipation like any good entertainer would. "After some deliberation, and some help from you -- the audience -- the winners of the Tre Beauty contest are..." One more pause, shorter than the first, and the woman held fast to a grin, before suddenly thrusting her arm back and in the direction of Trey and Carona. "Coming in strong, with 69 points, and so soon after their previous victory, it's Trey and Carona!" She turned to face both Trey and Taz as, behind her, a deafening roar of applause started up. She waved the former forward, prizes at the ready. "He's really gunning for it, folks! Who knows, maybe within the next few hours he'll have secured a Quaro Ribbon as well~"

Trey shook from his state, and looked to the announcer with a dazed expression. Man, he was out of it... But the realization soaked in, and he smiled a bit, bowing his head some and stepping forward to give a bow again, and accept his winnings. It was almost... embarrassing when she went and said it all like that. Honestly, he'd been considering a quaro contest, especially now that he had seen how well Carona did in battle portions -- he was pretty much determined to sign up for that specifically, in the future -- but he needed a break. He needed to rest. He needed food...
With a final bow, and a sportsman handshake with Taz, he quietly slipped away, weaving a bit as he walked his way to the pokecenter. He got himself and his pokemon food, but he hardly made it a third of the way through his meal before he fell asleep on the table. He really hadn't slept at all last night, had he....

Trey woke up to luke-warm food and a bit of drool on his face, and quickly wiped it off as he pulled himself off, just shy of embarrassed as he glanced groggily around. His pokemon were done, and Shade and Cherish were entertaining themselves by exploring the area and playing, while Carona had perched himself on the bench opposite Trey, and seemed to be resting. He'd certainly earned it. Glancing at the two smaller pokemon, he moved to push himself up, grabbing a few more bites before deciding to head upstairs for some proper rest. "Cher, Shade--" To his surprise, both pokemon turned and looked attentively at him. He eyed the fluffball. then glanced around. Seemed no one was really around to have heard him speak... that was good. It had only been on reflex. He shook his head, then recalled everyone but Cherish, and picked the gekkit up in his arms.

At the top of the stairs, he found JR shrugging on a jacket -- sans shirt underneath, gross -- with a toothbrush in his hand. "There 'oo are," he remarked, looking Trey over with an inquiringly raised eyebrow. Trey gave him a blank stare back, with a short, judging glance down, before heading to his room. JR rolled his eyes and moved to follow him, and before the teen could close the door, put a hand up to keep it open, slipping in and kicking it shut behind him before moving to the bathroom. "Where have ya been?" Trey asked casually, letting Cher down onto the bed, before kicking off his own shoes. "Me? I've been upstairs all day, enjoying myself. Where have you been? Coordinating?" the man guessed, finishing brushing his teeth and giving himself a once over in the bathroom mirror.
Trey didn't bother answering.
"I'm gettin' some more sleep," he stated instead, pulling off his shirt, and, after a moment's thought, just climbing in under the covers, "Don' stick around." JR appeared in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed over his shirt. "You are just the worst host," he remarked simply. Trevor continued to ignore him, rolling over onto his side, with Cherish hopping over, and getting pulled down to lay alongside him, one arm around the gekkit's little body. Cherish didn't seem to mind, though, and chittered contently, before resting his head down and closing his own eyes. JR rolled his eyes again, and pushed off. "I'm going to get my stuff, but I'm coming back," he warned, heading for the door, but leaving it unlocked for himself. Trey didn't bother getting up to unlock it.

JR shouldered his way into the room once he got the door knob twisted enough, and eyed Trey and Cherish's sleeping form. His gaze remained on them as he nudged the door shut again, and moved over to the desk. Honestly... he could just kill the kid now and be free from this whole contract. Why didn't Trey think of that? They hadn't been traveling together nearly long enough to appropriately trust him. Maybe he had something up his sleeve? Or maybe he thought he knew him well enough to believe he wouldn't do that?
... He wouldn't, admittedly, though he'd be lying if he said he wasn't tempted. This whole deal wasn't necessarily working against his favor, though when it did, things might change a bit. And besides, this sort of angled his career, instead of letting him jump from job to job, leaving stuff potentially unfinished, or put off until later. He'd certainly organized far more trades and deals since traveling with the kid, and even though he was still doing some thefts, if anyone tracked him, or started catching on, he could potentially shift the blame -- or at least suspicion -- onto the kid long enough for him to figure something out (or straight up escape).
Either way.... this was working well enough for him, for the time being, and he finished up a few things while Trey took his nap, before glancing over as the teen woke. "Please tell me we're going to be leaving this city soon," he immediately implored, turning in his chair slightly to hook an arm over the back of it. Trey looked groggily over at him, then narrowed his eyes, before throwing the covers off him. And, promptly over Cherish, who gekkered in curiosity and began wiggling his way out. "Shu'up," the teen grumbled, rubbing a hand over his face as he moved to the bathroom. "No. I've kept myself busy but I'm done here and I've run out of options. You've done what you've needed to do, it's time for a break so that I can do what I need to do. That's our agreement, right? I assist for you, I translate, you do your stuff, but I still get to do mine. And at this point, I can't if we stay here," he insisted, walking after Trey. With an annoyed look, Trey moved to splash water on his face, and though JR considered pushing, he gave him his precious silence, and relented when it seemed the teen had conceded. The two started packing their things up, and started out of the pokecenter, but there was just one more thing that needed to be handled before they could really get out....

As they stepped out, Trey frowned, and his brow stitched together as he came to a stop. JR cast a lazy glance over in his direction, looking less than interested, and a bit fatigued at the idea of such a quick interruption to their progression. "What?" he asked flatly. He followed the teen's gaze after a prolonged silence, and quirked an eyebrow when he finally spotted the point of his pause. A pokemon? Carrying another pokemon. Why this seemed to bother Trey in particular so much, he wasn't sure, but he would admit, it was a little odd. And there was a vaporeon walking next to him-- was being the operative word, as, to both men's surprise, two of the three suddenly changed forms before them, and left the two staring. The grovyle had shifted to a slim, green-haired young man, and the vaporeon, a dark haired, sharp-blue eyed girl with an umbrella casting a shadow over her as she looked to the... man? Beside her.
"... He your cousin?" JR asked after a moment, looking over the young man, and eying his green hair. Trey recovered from his shocked look and cast an annoyed side glare in return. "She yers?" he returned back smartly, before walking forward. "I'm not translating. I don't speak pokemon," JR warned, following while eying the two... individuals? Honestly, he wasn't sure. He'd never seen that before. Were they ditto, maybe? That was the only thing he could think of that would appear as both non-transformative pokemon, and humans. He couldn't imagine why a zorua, zoroark, latios, or latias would otherwise appear as other pokemon, before appearing human... Except maybe to remain obscure, which openly transforming clearly nullified.
"Hey-- you two," Trey quietly hissed out, catching the two's attention immediately. Their heads whipped over, and they stared uncertainly. The green haired man's eyes narrowed slightly, as he seemed to recognize Trey. "Yeh've been walkin' around here since yesterday-- 'n last I saw, you were a grovyle. What's goin' on here?" Trey insisted, looking between the two, and talking in a low voice. The two exchanged looks again, before looking down at the pokemon in the man's arms. A zorua... ".... No way." Trey turned a confused frown onto JR, who was looking at the pokemon with a smile of disbelief. He lifted a hand to point at it, and raised his gaze back to the two. "Is that thing disguising you two?" He honestly wasn't serious. He was almost laughing-- it was practically a joke. He was being sarcastic. But the grim look they shared, and the nod from the grovyle-slash-green-haired-man confirmed, and he dropped his hand with a round-eyed stare. He looked at Trevor. "You need to catch-- er, help these three. They're obviously missing their trainer," he commented, his eyebrows raised. This earned a flat, unimpressed stare from the teen, but he turned his gaze to the two. "D'you two need help?" he asked, again still speaking quietly. They exchanged another look, and while the girl shook her head, the man sighed, and nodded, before the illusion faded again, and revealed the wary grovyle. Well... Trey wasn't going to lose their momentum, but.... maybe they could find some information in Mauville....
