N A M ECharlotte Anne Riley CharlieCharlie, if you're close to her.A G ESeventeenN A T I O N A L I T YAmerican (of British and French descent)F I N A N C I A L x S T A T U SUpper classS C H O O LRosaline AcademyP E R S O N A L I T YCharlotte has grown up being taught how to be a perfect lady. Quiet and composed at nearly all times, she rarely exhibits outbursts of emotion. If she becomes angry, she will simply smile and take it in stride, often waiting until she is alone to act upon that anger. However, despite this "training," she is by no means demure or weak. She makes direct eye contact, speaks in a clear voice, and holds herself like a responsible young lady. She is strong, and it takes quite a lot for her to doubt herself. She will also not hesitate to speak her mind, albeit in a fairly polite way. Instead of direct insults, it may even seem like a compliment. She can be very passive-aggressive if she wants to, but she's usually sneaky about it.
She can, however, find herself doing whatever someone asks if it seems like the results will benefit her. On some occasions, this people-pleasing attribute surfaces merely for the satisfaction of helping someone. However, most times, it is to benefit herself. She has her father's ruthless drive, and she strives to be the best in whatever she does. If this requires sacrifice or sucking up to someone (AKA brown-nosing a bit), she'll do it. But she also will not hesitate to throw someone under the bus for her own personal gain. It's not very nice, or ladylike for that matter, but she does it anyway. Because of this, Charlotte's friends, while she loves them, are not very close to her in actuality. She is friendly and amusing when she doesn't need or want something, but if they stand in her way, she will not hesitate to push them aside. It would be nice if, someday, I could find a friend for her that she cares about enough to not throw under the bus, but at this point, it seems unlikely. While there is no defining trauma in her past that made her this way, she has seen how becoming too close to others can hurt you, through her mother. The woman got much too close to her agent, and it almost tore the family apart. So, she has decided that self-advancement can usually come without relying too heavily on others.
This drive of hers, however negative on others, is very beneficial to her. She got into ballet at a very young age, and has stuck with it. She excels in it, often at the price of self-sacrifice and pain, but she must be the best, at any cost. She's won numerous awards and quite the sparkling reputation, but she constantly sees herself as needing improvement. She hopes to, one day, become a famous ballet dancer known world-wide. But she thinks that she still has a long way to go, and indeed she does.
But don't worry, Charlotte is not all business. She regularly lets very loose at parties and when around good friends, even taking the occasional stupid risk every now and then, but whenever she is under the watchful eyes of her parents, she is perfectly composed and polite. She has come to resent her parents, despite her love for them, and wishes that they would simply let her be herself. All their guidance and watching has helped her through life, yes, and has made her a strong young woman, but she longs to be able to let loose and be free like some of her friends. She is almost eighteen, after all. She goes through alternating phases of rebellion and acceptance, usually switched by her doing something reckless and realizing that, hey, maybe her parents do have a good idea. But after a while of dealing with their nagging, letting it roll onto her back, she snaps and the cycle begins again. It's tiring, and she will occasionally drop into a low point, but she will come out of it soon enough, realizing that it's not all bad. However, is she were to be given complete freedom, all at once, she probably would not know what to do with herself. She could easily lose control of the situation, too excited about the freedom she's been given, and get into very troubling situations.
But Charlotte views her friends, those that she has and spends time with regularly, as a sort of safe haven or relief from her parents and society. She can be fun and light with them, and not have to worry about looking ladylike or acting properly. However, she is not close enough to them to get too attached. She mostly uses them for her personal relief, not to make them happy. When around her friends, Charlotte acts much like every other teenage girl: gossipy, friendly, and fun. She'll really talk about or do anything that does not directly relate to her parents, in an attempt to escape them. She also tries not to talk too much to her friends about her family, wanting to avoid discussions of that sort. If she is ever asked about her family, or specifically her parents, she will give short, very non-informative answers, and then quickly change the subject. Even more, when she is actually fully at ease and having fun, Charlotte opens up considerably. She will reveal things about herself that she would not normally, or even drop the "young lady" act and behave quite freely. She can, however, become a bit drunk on this behavior, and may return home still in this mindset at times. If this happens, her parents will give her a stern, disapproving look, and a fight may ensue. And then, like clockwork, the cold, polite facade returns.x

H I S T O R YCharlotte was born into extravagance, to Donovan and Penelope Riley. She practically came out of her mother's womb with not a silver spoon in her hand, but a solid gold one. Treasured and spoiled as the pair's "princess", she was given everything she wanted and denied no whim. By some miracle, this has not made her a brat. However, she is very used to getting what she wants, when she wants it; this probably also contributed to her "I'll knock anyone aside that I have to" habit.
In her kindergarten days, her mother took her to a ballet recital of a family friend's daughter. Charlotte immediately fell in love, and has stuck with the activity ever since then. Incredibly driven as always, she has pushed herself so hard that she has gone through numerous stints in the hospital as a result of exhaustion, dehydration, and injuries. She realizes that these setbacks certainly do not help her, and may even hinder her progress, which only makes her angrier and more determined to prove that thought wrong. She tries to avoid injuries, she does, and so exhaustion and dehydration become much more common. She is much more likely to injure herself after a while of trying to avoid doing so, when she becomes tired and sloppy, or even frustrated. Her feet are quite messy, from all the toe-standing, but she considers the scars to be badges of honor, and is very proud of them. However, this does not mean she will readily show them off.
Her brother, Oliver, was born when she was seven, and took the spotlight off of her for quite some time. While she resents this, she has gotten over it by now. However, on the occasion that he gets more praise than she does, Charlotte becomes angry. If she was trying so hard, and Oliver was just a useless baby, why should he get more attention than she did? She was the princess! She went through a period of disliking the infant, before she realized that the hype was only going to last until he was no longer so cute and helpless, and came to love her younger brother (despite his future habit of terrorizing her). Until he was born, Charlotte never had to share the spotlight. To this day, she is not very keen on sharing anything, especially attention. Now that he's older, Charlotte is much more apt to spend time with him, albeit not in front of many people (because that would allow for questions about him, and not about her. He's really a very nice boy, when he's not terrorizing his sister, and is quite the prodigy himself. He plays the piano, and the two often team up for small performances in front of family. This creates quite a bit of tension, however, as it is not always wanted on Charlotte's part. If he's playing the piano, people may begin to focus on his work, instead of hers. However, he does not seem to feel the same pressure that Charlotte does to do well, and merely does so because he wants to. He may, perhaps, want to live up to the large shadow that Charlotte has inadvertently cast upon him, but it is not clear at this point.
Enrolled in only the best schools from kindergarten onward, and spoiled by nannies and maids, Charlotte became used to a life of decadence and privilege. She excelled in school from the very start, much to her parents' happiness, however she did not directly challenge herself, and coasted through with the required classes under her belt. But her grades dipped in the last year of middle school, when her mother became too involved with her agent. It was in the last years of her modeling career, as fate would have it, as the industry does not generally look with kindness upon those that are married and have a near-affair with another man. Charlotte's father, upon finding out about this little indiscretion (the blame placed equally upon both the agent and Penelope), he had the man fired and blacklisted, and has never truly forgiven Penelope. The fact that she actually agreed to do those things with her agent was like a slap to the face, and it nearly ended in divorce. Fortunately, they decided to stay together for the sake of their children. But Penelope's career would never recover. Charlotte learned, right then and there, to never get that close to someone. Ever.
Charlotte wanted to see her parents happy again, and so she devised a plan. When high school came around, she was tougher, more self-sufficient, and more determined than she had ever been previously. She was determined to please her parents by proving that she was worth staying together for, that she would be a good daughter to them. She decided right then that she had to succeed at any cost (this eventually became less of a wanted fate, and more driven by the fact that her parents constantly pressured her). After all, she only had four years until college, and needed to start preparing right away. Even if she had all the money in the world, she would not succeed if a college would not accept her. She may have been getting straight A's up until that point, but now her drive to succeed has escalated to the point of anything less than 100% is not good enough. So, if she caught someone cheating, she reported them (though not out of decency; she merely wanted to be in good standing with the teachers, wanting to be extra sure that she was well-liked, even if she was already a wonderful student). If someone stood in her way of getting a good grade, such as on a partner project, she would intimidate them into pulling their weight (and possibly some of her own), lest she report them to the teacher for slacking and have their grade brought down on said assignment. She let no one stand in her way, and she has become quite the impressive student as a result.
Overall, Charlotte does not seem to realize that she indeed has a very, very good life, one that many would covet and trade theirs for in a heartbeat. But all she sees are flaws. She does not get good enough grades (even though all of her marks are A's), she is not a good enough dancer (despite awards and the like), and she is not a good enough daughter (her parents constantly pressure her, making her think that she can always do better). All of this combines into a slightly pessimistic view of herself and her life, despite the privileges and love she receives without much work.
Charlotte now prepares for another step in her life: becoming a magical girl. Kyuubey approached her, one day on a stroll through the park, and the creature's deal sounded very appealing to the young woman. She could have anything she wanted, end world hunger even! But Charlotte wanted something much more small-scale than that, albeit much more important to her, individually: freedom. Her parents had long been very protective of their only daughter, wanting to protect her from the dangers of the real world, but this had caused Charlotte to become bitter and resentful, jealous of the freedom some of her "friends" enjoyed. She longed to do what she wanted, be who she wanted, and think for herself. Sure, she had actually been doing this for a few years now, but she still felt the ever-looming, watchful gaze of her parents on her back, their breath on the nape of her neck. And so, Charlotte's journey begins.F A M I L YDonovan Riley - Father - Big-time CEO - Forty-seven A third-generation immigrant from England, Charlotte's father is all business, in every aspect of his life. While he does not hesitate to tell his daughter that he loves her, he is never gushy or emotional about it. He works late into the night nearly every night, and is gone on business trips for most of the year. He does not play a large role in Charlotte's life, but she does care about his opinion.
Penelope Riley (Vanguard) - Mother - Former supermodel - Forty-two A first-generation immigrant from France. Charlotte's mother cares deeply for her daughter, and has been known to go on random shopping sprees, bringing home ridiculous amounts of clothing for her daughter. She longs to be as beautiful as she once was (which has actually not changed too much), and so she spends exorbitant amounts of money on beauty products and the like. She has never gone under the knife, however, and refuses to. She can often come off as overbearing, not wanting her daughter to succumb to society's pressures as she did when she was younger. She can worry about the littlest things, but she loves her daughter very much, and only wants the best for her.
Oliver Riley - Brother - Student - Ten Charlotte's little brother, and the very bane of her existence. She loves him, she really does, but it is the classic sibling relationship. She finds him mildly annoying, but will not hesitate to defend him. He loves his big sister and looks up to her quite a bit, but also loves to tease and torment her. His irritant of choice is pranks, and it's become a bit of a hobby, much to Charlotte's chagrin.x

H O U S ECharlotte and her family live in an upscale neighborhood in the middle of the Daisy District, almost directly even between Rosaline Academy and her father's office in Millennium Square. They have purchased a two-story house, with a small third story shaped like a dome, acting as the observatory and 'artistic inspiration' room. Charlotte makes this one of her most frequented spots on a daily basis.
The first floor is dedicated exclusively to public spaces, including a large and top-of-the-line kitchen, a very large family room with plush couches and mahogany tables, closets, a nice half-bathroom (no shower or bathtub), a grand entryway, and a separate media room full of gaming consoles (mostly for Oliver), a fully-stocked movie cabinet, and a big screen plasma television.
You will find all of the bedrooms and private bathrooms on the second floor. Charlotte and Oliver have their bedrooms at opposite wings, with front- and side-facing windows. Each has their own bathroom, with bathtub, shower, etc. Donovan and Penelope share the large master bedroom at the center of the second story, with rear-facing windows (giving them a view of the back garden and pool). Other second-story rooms include Donovan's private study, a small library, and three storage closets.W A R D R O B ETall, slim, and graceful, Charlotte takes after her mother considerably. The only hint of her father being a contributor is her dark hair; everything else came from her mother. Her skin is a soft peachy shade, and her eyes are dramatic and rimmed with naturally-dark, thick lashes. She rarely looks anything but fashionable, but won't hesitate to go with something comfortable when she's merely staying in the house. Her light blue eyes are striking against dark brown hair, even more attention drawn to them by the very small birthmark under her left eye. She wears her dark chocolate hair in long, slightly wavy layers (the longest of which just reaching her waist) with pieced bangs across her forehead that dust her lashes. As far as clothing goes, Charlotte strays more toward calm, pastel colors, but she is not against using a pop of color to really draw attention. A big fan of lace and draping fabrics, Charlotte looks very ethereal and feminine on most days. While she prides herself on having mostly brand-name fashions, she is not above prowling a local second-hand store for a cute, vintage piece.

C O L O RPowder blue (#CAE7FF)L A N G U A G EFrenchD E S I R E SCharlotte wants to be perfect. She wants to be all that her parents desired in a child, the perfect young lady, the perfect student, and the perfect daughter (if only so they'll get off her back a little). But she knows that, as long as she harbors these resentments inside of her, she cannot achieve this. She would most likely wish to be the perfect student, as that is what her parents are most concerned about at this point, but I could easily see this affecting her negatively. This new-found perfection in school would be in stark contrast to the rest of her life, highlighting how imperfect she is at everything else, even if it is by a very small margin. This would drive Charlotte crazy as she tries to cover these gaps, but is never fully able to (at least in her mind).E M B L E MCrescent moonW E A P O NChakram bladesM A G I CCharlotte is skilled in the art of replication, both of herself, and other objects. She cannot, however, replicate another person. However, these replications are often short-lived and usually occur in small numbers. The effect on her soul gem depends on how many replicas she makes in a given amount of time, as well as the size of said replicas. Creating more requires more energy, and so she usually makes two or three at a time, recovers, and then makes more. The duration of said replicas does not appear to play a significant role in the corruption of her soul gem, as most of the energy consumed by the replicas is expended in the creation, not maintenance.x
