NAME: Sophie BinksCOLOR: #ff0000 "Red"AGE: 8 NATIONALIST: A little of most European nationalities; Dutch, Welsh, Norwegian, etc. HOME/FINANCE: A small house in Apple District, lower middle class SCHOOL: Teufel ElementaryPERSONALITY: Sophie Binks is both like most girls her age and unlike any you have ever met. She is a sweet girl that likes to play pretend and fall into the whimsy of princess stories but it goes far deeper than that: Sophie does not just like princesses, she is thoroughly convinced she is one. It started when she was younger, a simple pet name from her father that blossomed her interest in princesses in general and filling the role of one. Her imagination is vast, giving life to inanimate objects like her stuffed bear, painting the world into a magical land and placing all of her family, friends and acquaintances into a world crafted with loving majesty. If it wasn't particularly obvious, Sophie has some difficulty separating her fantasies from reality. Yes, she is a princess. Yes, her teddy bear is alive. If you can't see it or don't believe, it just means you don't have the ~*power*~ to comprehend it and you won't be able to until you accept magic and fantasy into your heart.
On the more normal side of things, Sophie's favorite colors are pink, red and purple and she adores reading. Her mother taught her how to read from an early age and was where her love of imagining and stories was born. Despite her fascination with the written word and her knack for reading it, she is a bit lacking in penmanship and and her spelling is atrocious. Without the words in front of her she just sounds them out and writes them all phonetically. Sophie enjoys ALL fairytales but her favorites are that of King Arthur and his knights, legends of Merlin and the lady of the lake. It was where she got the name for her teddy bear, after all.
Sophie is a somewhat sensitive girl, though she may initially have you believe otherwise. She cares a lot about keeping civility, like a princess ought to, and finds that taking turns and compromising are generally the best courses of action, which she learned early on from her mother. Sharing is caring! While she generally doesn't mind being turned down or disagreed with, if it happens frequently (either in the same conversation or over a few days time) she will begin to think the person doing so has something against her personally. This tends to result in a very pouty, teary Sophie and she may blubber in confusion until she knows the other person doesn't hate her. As far as Sophie is concerned, she has a clear understanding of gender distinction and "roles". To her, things can be either girly or manly but one does not necessarily have to be a girl or a boy to do one or the other -- you just have to look or act like one enough so that you default to that. Between herself and Meridith, Sophie understands that she is girly and so is her favorite color, so she easily fits into the niche of princess. Meridith, on the other hand, has short hair, dresses like a boy and doesn't act very feminine at all and so, in Sophie's mind, she automatically defaults to boyish things and thus became a prince in her imagination. While this is certainly not correct across the board, it's how her young mind views things and thus far no one has sat her down to correct her.
One thing people must always remember with Sophie is that promises are very important! Both of her parents have brought her up with the understanding that "without your word, you're nothing" and her young mind has, in a way, twisted it to her own princessly benefit. Pinky promises are especially important and to her are the equivalent of swearing fealty! She totally knows what fealty is, too, she just thinks it's spelled feelty. If someone breaks a promise with her, she'll be very disappointed and annoyed and she'll show it until they make it up to her. Sophie is NOT above such things as the cold shoulder or silent treatment and will utilize these tactics to her advantage -- just not very often. She would much prefer to keep things normal, civil and warm between folks both because it's so much easier and because it's more enjoyable for all parties involved.
Sophie is the type of person to jump the gun when it comes to judgments of others. Based on one or two instances, she will think she understands the motives a person has and can state plainly whether they're "good" or "bad". As expected, this tends to back fire and even if a person is good, should Sophie experience even one bad thing from them (which everyone's mileage may vary on) then she might peg them a bad person. Worse, a bad person might do one nice thing and she may think it redeems them. Thankfully this hasn't gotten too out of hand yet and has mostly been restricted to characters in stories, but it is a worry of Sophie's parents -- and likely Meridith's -- that they would like to break her out of as soon as possible. All in all, Sophie Binks is a very active and lively girl with her own ideas about how the world works, a lot of them wrong which may have a deep impact upon her later. For now, she is content to wile away her time steeped in imagination and fantasy with her best friend and loving parents. APPEARANCE: Sophie is a small girl, standing no taller than three foot nine and weighing at a light fifty-six pounds, she's a small girl built for speed and climbing and this is precisely what she enjoys doing. Her hair is long, straight and blonde but to keep it out of the way and look cute, she likes keeping it up in two short braids. Unfortunately she doesn't know how to do it herself so she needs her parents or best friend to do it for her. Above all, Sophie's favorite color is pink and any variant of it so this is typically what her wardrobe entails. Whenever her hair is up, you can bet it'll be tied with lovely red ribbon! She also likes looking "nice", like a princess ought to, but with the added benefit of mobility so her skirts tend to be short, accompanied by tank tops and tennis shoes. If it's cold out she will definitely bundle up with scarves, coats and long stockings. She also has a fondness for hats, which she likens to crowns. Sophie's a pale sort with big, red doe eyes and her skin is a little blotchy with blush or redness. It's very rare to see her without a warm smile, especially if she's around her prince.

HISTORY: Howard Binks and Chloe McLaughlin were happily married in the Spring, nestled comfortably in the Teufel Town's Daisy District. Howard was a construction worker and, at the time, Chloe was a secretary for a landscaping company in Lynn, so their funds weren't the greatest but the two of them got by comfortably for each other. Suffice to say, it was a surprise when certain symptoms cropped up for Chloe and a few pregnancy tests declared the situation positive. They had been very careful, so they thought, but they decided it was probably the right time for them to get their things in order -- the two did want to have children, they just wanted to be prepared. Most of the next nine months are spent accumulating funds, Chloe taking on numerous odd jobs until she has to take maternal leave for her own health and the baby's and Howard picked up the slack by taking day and night shifts, losing a lot of sleep. Their plan of action was to get enough money to be stable and move to the Apple District in preparation for the baby's school years. Things were going well and their parents helped with funds when they could, leading up to the birth of Sophie Elizabeth Binks.
The first four years with their new daughter were as good as any parent can expect; complete with the sleepless nights, screaming at all hours of the day and the more disgusting aspects, they were able to overcome the hurdles and spend as much time with Sophie as each of them could. Chloe didn't waste much time in deciding that, at least while their daughter was young, it was better for her to be a stay at home mom and it gave her the opportunity to do things she enjoyed rather than stressing about stupid paper work. It wasn't too long after Sophie's fourth birthday that the family felt prepared enough to move into their new home in the Apple District. Sophie was confused and nervous at first but thankfully she wasn't being uprooted from any local friends -- the girl was too young and barely had time to make any at the day cares she was occasionally put at.
In preparation for the coming start of kindergarten, Chloe figured it best to give Sophie a head start on reading. Each night Chloe and Howie would alternate who read a bed time story to their daughter and sometimes they would pretend as though they were having trouble with certain words. Sophie would then offer to help, whether she knew or not, and they would then assist her in sounding words out. This system worked surprisingly well for Sophie and she was one of the better read kids in her class, usually reading to some of the other children herself. For whatever reason, though, she didn't seem to connect with any of the other kids and often played by herself. To help alleviate the situation, her parents bought a teddy bear. Sophie took to him immediately, naming him "Teddy Beddy", Beddy for short.
Nap time seemed to be the worst for Sophie, at least until Beddy came into the picture. She would play with all of the kids equally, taking turns with toys and books, but whenever nap time rolled around she would have a lot of trouble settling down and often caused a fuss. When she got Beddy it was sort of the opposite problem. She would play more by herself with the stuffed bear and whenever a kid asked to see him she would refuse to share. Nap time was still sort of a problem because she wouldn't actually nap, she would keep playing with her bear but she didn't cause as much of a ruckus and keep the other kids up. While this was something of an issue and Chloe was often there to respond to teacher concerns, it never caused enough problems to actually result in punishments because Sophie's fusses ended in tears rather than shrieking.
While Sophie was at school, Chloe spent her time at home gardening and doing miscellaneous arts and crafts; jewelry, model making, various odds and ends that she would either keep for the family or put up on eBay and Etsy. It was around this time she began getting more acquainted with the neighbors and hit it off with a woman next door who had a daughter of her own, a few years older than Sophie. It turned out that the woman, Elen Banes, was a teacher at one of the town colleges and with a young daughter herself; the two women hit it off well. Her daughter was very polite and well behaved, the sort of good older influence Chloe wanted her daughter to have, especially since she didn't seem to connect with the rest of her class.
Nearing the end of kindergarten, Chloe introduced Sophie to the other mother and daughter pair -- Meridith Banes and Sophie Binks got along like two peas in a pod. She talked with Meri about the colorful princess world she imagined for herself, allowed her to touch and hold Beddy. In return, Meridith introduced her to the written world of medieval knights and King Arthur. Sophie was quickly swept away in the majesty of it all and determined that if she was a princess then surely Meri was a prince saving her from the mundane! A routine was soon established, where Sophie and Meri would walk to and from school together and hang out every day before dinner time. Meri would sometimes help Sophie with her homework and Sophie would draw Meri pictures. After dinner they had a little more play time and Sophie pulled Meri into her wonderful world of pretend.
In accordance with her and Meri's titles, as well as the influence of King Arthur's knights, Sophie decided to change Beddy's name to Bedivere after Sir Bedivere of the Round Table. She even asked her mom to make him a special crown because royal bears needed to have crowns! When her mother became confused at the name 'Bedivere' instead of 'Beddy', Sophie said that "Beddy was just a nickname for a name I didn't know I knew yet!"
From here on it was smooth sailing for the two girls. In the next three years they become almost as close as sisters, best friends the prince and princess, never spending much time apart. To Sophie's parents it is a godsend; she has a consistent friend and positive influence who is not much older than her, a smart friend who can help her when they can't, and her fussing has calmed down considerably. Their adventure games of pretend have increased to become an almost daily event and they become more and more involved as the days go on. So much so, in fact, that Sophie asked her mom to construct a book so she could record the events! Sophie is a few months into third grade now, and though the work is becoming more difficult she has her King, Queen and Prince to help her. As far as she's concerned, things are going great and can only get better from here!FAMILY: Mother Chloe Binks - 33 - arts and crafts from home (sells on Etsy) Color - Crimson Chloe is the type of lady who loves gardening, reading and being creative. She's out going but has a bit of a temper and usually cleans for stress relief. Between the two parents, she has the more dominant personality type. Cooking gives her a lot of trouble, much to her embarrassment. She's a brunette with red eyes that match her daughter's, with a tall and wispy build. Chloe dresses almost exclusively for comfort these days so she doesn't turn very many heads.
Father Howard Binks - 42 - construction worker (day shift) Color - Firebrick Quiet, a bit bulky, and downright huggable, Howard is the perfect king as far as Sophie's concerned. He picks up the 'house wife' role in a lot of his chores, as he's the much better chef and is generally better organized than Chloe who lives in controlled chaos. He likes giving piggy backs, blowing raspberries on Sophie's tummy and reading bed time stories. Dirty blond and greying with small brown eyes and a bushy mustache, he stands out starkly against his wife and daughter and has a rather imposing figure to those who don't know him.
Toy Companion Bedivere - stuffed bear - ageless - the royal mount Her stuffed teddy bear, originally named "beddy", was christened "Sir Bedivere" and been given the honor of being the princess' noble steed. He wears a cape in place of a saddle and a crown atop his head because he is the royal mount. Bedivere does not have a voice, as he is a simple bear and cannot speak, but Sophie imagines that he is a very clever bear and understands English well enough.
