Name: Avery
Age: 20
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: Beastcraft/Bet-taking; Runner Handling
Rank: Apprentice / Candidate

History: Born at Katz Field Hold, Avery is the youngest of three children and the only girl. While both of her older brothers are now journeyman beastcrafters, as is their mother who traveled from High Telgar Hold to Katz Field Hold for Runnercraft, Avery remains a daddy's girl.

As a young child, she was oft left in his care while he attended the races at Katz Field, his job as a bet-taker leading him to teach his daughter how to charm and show-boat. Ave showed exceptional potential, and was quickly trusted to being accepting her own bets in her father's name, her advice often helping others win plenty of marks, a percentage of which went to her father, which in turn trickled down to herself.

A fair man, he taught her that you only get what you earn or take, giving the girl her own income once she began to rightfully earn it. The importance of caring for the source of your income [the runnerbeasts] was instilled by her mother, who insisted that she, as well, learn beastcraft.

However, her prosperous young career was slowed when she turned sixteen and was searched by a blue and his rider. Having long ago learned to take opportunities when they came her way, Avery agreed, relocating to Ista Weyr with the idea she could simply start her own betting pool while there.

At the Weyr, she found herself sharing quarters with a younger candidate named Kesslan, now the greenrider, K'lan. The two began a relationship, which was mutually terminated as the girls drifted apart [a drift actually forced by another Candidate] Avery swapping quarters to make things simpler. The two remain on good terms, though K'lan doesn't always approve of the lengths Avery is willing to go to get what she wants.

The brunette then spent her free time running betting pools and card games for weyrbrats, apprentices, and candidates and was in regular contact with her father to get racer results from back home.

That regular contact resulted in a visit home for more than a fortnight, during which he convinced his daughter, a Candidate of four turns, to travel to High Reaches Weyr to stand at their large clutch. This was, of course, influenced by the presence of her mother's family in the area and his desire to take advantage of their acceptance of traders in the local hold. The thought was that if Avery didn't impress, she could further the family business in the area.

Reluctant to leave the Weyr she'd been calling home, Avery was further influenced by the enthusiasm of a fellow Istan Candidate, Uuni, and agreed to go. Not exactly liking the cold, Avery's found dubious company in the form of her cousins and is determined to make the best of the new Weyr, including to wriggling her way into the local gambling scene.

Standing, she watched as Uuni Impressed, as well as another Istan transfer, Kyllae, and felt sad, with self-doubt, and a bit of bitterness. However, the girl is bouncing back and moving on.

Appearance: Avery's most eye-catching feature is, without a doubt, her chocolate-brown hair which curls to frame her face without shame in a gorgeous mane, the ends of which touch her mid-back when wet, but dry tighten up to her shoulders. Closely following are her eyes, a pale hazel-green that stands out against her sun-tanned skin [a lighter, caramel color]. With high-cheekbones, a full mouth and delicate features, the exotic girl is generally considered attractive, but not quite beautiful, though the imperfections on her lightly freckled face are hard to notice in the presence of her strong personality.

Average in height, Avery's not built or bulky, her toned muscles,[hard and small instead from years of running, fighting, climbing and doing chores], balanced by wide hips, an ample bottom, and noticeable bust. With quite a bit of her own income, the curly-haired young woman tends to wear expensive, high-quality clothing as brightly colored as possible, her favorite tones being golden yellows, bright blues, and vibrant reds.

Personality: Bold and strong of will and language, Avery appears every bit as wild as her curls and can be more than 'a bit of a b***h'. Playful, sometimes charming, and generally known to be quite witty, her wicked sense of humor is frequently more than slightly abrasive, and often crosses the line into subtly demeaning.

Often going from coy to blunt in a matter of minutes, Ave constantly catches her companions off guard, to their chagrin and occasional delight, something that provides her with a daily source of entertainment. The former [and current, though games are much smaller in the Weyr, and much less profitable] bet-taker is willing to speak to everyone and to work with anyone, as she believes in results over method, even to the point of using physical force to back up her point, if she believes that will be the most effective course of action. If Avery decides upon something, the stubborn girl will defend it almost anyway that doesn't cross her own moral code.

Avery considers people her highest priority, and instinctively communicates a willingness to become involved in others problems and successes. Outgoing, and extremely expressive, Avery loves language, especially when communicating in speech, face to face. She rarely hesitates to speak out and let her feelings be known, in most social situations. Extremely flamboyant, she voices her passions with dramatic flourish, and despite frequent hyperbole, and is considered by some to be a very persuasive speaker [Her methods of persuasion often involve intimidation, though much of that is unintentional and viewed by herself to be talent].

This verbal ability and confidence often gives Avery a good deal of influence in her peer group, though its not necessarily a positive one. Viewing life as almost a stage, she enjoys directing others. She, to be frank, often thinks she knows what's best for others, and doles out advice, even orders based on that premise. Often, she is astute in her perceptions of others, however she sometimes fails to think too deeply on the lives of others past the point where they involve her and can miss the mark.

She likes things settled and organized, and will schedule her work hours and social engagements well ahead of time, if at all possible, and can be reliably counted upon to be where she says she will be, when she says she will be. This is born out of her father's teachings of 'professionalism' as well as self-respect. Avery expects others to be mindful of her time, in return, and has a low level of patience for tardiness or sloppy demeanor.

Avery has very specific needs and wants to feel comfortable, including tidiness of her quarters and carefully organized game tables. She needs to feel 'respected', to have things just-so, and once they are, she is the wild, fun-loving, flirtatious girl most perceive her to be. Without these conditions met, the curly-haired young woman can become sullen, moody, and highly irritable. Avery is inherently selfish, though not cripplingly so, and used to getting what she wants. While she is willing to work for it, and has been taught to do so, she's also accustomed to having some things handed to her, a result of her upbringing.

Her temper is quick to flare, though it is just as quick to simmer down, and while sadness and disappointment are communicated only by her body, and held inside for fortnights, and avoidance of her regular social pursuits, her anger dissipates moments after it is vocally expressed and dealt with. As calculating as she is emotive, Avery is quick to outwardly forgive a person, whether it be for cheating a card game or hurting her feelings, while inwardly logging away the action in a tally list of social interactions.

Due to her picky nature and the 'gameface' she puts out, Avery lacks a large number of close friends, many of them being former romantic interests that have had turns to see deeper sides to her facade. In general friendship she prefers animals or males as she views them as easy to handle, while also being less prying.

One could simply say that when Avery is feeling good, it's very good, and when she's feeling bad, it's very bad. She is a girl of extremes, and the sought-out drama of her life both keeps her going and exhausts her.

Pets Avery has a very hateful green firelizard named Sparta, a sweet bronze fellow named Adorn, and his bronze offspring, Rhetoric. She's also caring for Lump, Uuni's brown firelizard as well as Verity, Adorn's green offspring and a gift to Uuni.

Avery : Extended

Quote: "Oh really, now?"
Favorite Colors: Bold, primary colors. Red, Blue, Yellow.
Musical Talents: Avery's not much for singing, having a pleasant, but not amazing voice, though she can keep rhythm and dances well. She tends to hum when in the middle of a task.
Strengths: Leadership qualities, skill in mathematics, reading and writing. Can be very intimidating and clever. Quick hands.
Weaknesses: Can be self-centered and has a tendency to alienate others when in a bad mood. Volatile emotions. Often moody!
Family: Two older brothers, by several turns, and two loving parents.
Birthday: Sometime in the Fall
Character tracks: Money Honey | Swaggerific | Sexy b***h | Beautiful, Dirty, Rich | Bossy

Family:
Avery, moreso than the average Candidate in the Weyr, has strong family ties and adores her family members, particularly her father. Raised as the youngest by many turns of three in her nuclear family, Avery was also the only daughter. Her mother is a Senior Journeyman Runner-Handler, native to High Telgar Hold and her older brothers are Journeymen Runner-Handlers and Breeders, respectively. Her father is a native to Katz Field Hold, where she was raised. Doted upon by her father, Avery showed a knack for charming others and a shrewd sense of business, which caused the large, friendly man to take her on in his business of Bet-taking. Her mother required her to also apprentice into Beastcraft, which she also took to with gusto.

She's become accustomed to good-natured bantered with those close to her, as well as physical affection as the norm, due to her upbringing. Avery's also quite comfortable wrestling with and fighting with boys.

Now, she's becoming acquainted with her mother's sister, Catrin, and her two daughters, Cannan and Camryn and is still in regular contact with her family back home, corresponding at least once a sevenday, if not more often. Avery has a very deep love for her family and would do as much as possible for them, without compromising herself. They, in turn, are extremely supportive of her and encourage her brassy nature and exploits.

Avery loves, loves, loves expensive things. From clothing to food, she wants it fabulous and is willing to work for that. So far, she's been fortunate, having both a wealthy family, a doting father to give her what she wants, and her own income.

She is not greedy with these things and is perfectly willing to share with those that have a place in her heart, or those she thinks are in need, however, she is in the 'you want it? get it' school of thought.
