Avery was done sulking in her room, as she'd been doing the past few weeks. The usually brassy girl had been more than grumpy, despite [and perhaps because of] Uuni's startlingly good moods, but something like that couldn't last long for such a social young woman. Besides, the longer she waited, the longer it would take to rule the Candidate's quarters.
Lifting her curls free of the neckline of the large, warm coat she'd just pulled on, Avery shook the scowl from her face. It was well-made, beautiful, a gift from her father, like the boots and gloves on her hands and feet, some of the many she'd received for agreeing to come to this icy hell-Weyr. Then again, it was a lot better than that damned Telgar...
Still. It was cleaner, the food was better... Avery liked that. Striding across the hall, the brunette entered another room without knocking, ignoring the young Candidate doing some sort of leisure activity to pin Uuni down with a stare.
"Come on, we're going outside." Time to see what all the hoopla was about. Snow! Why in Faranth's name would someone want to be outside in that? Avery hadn't spent more than ten minutes outside since she'd arrived, and that ten minutes had been the time it'd taken to go from the dragon she'd arrived on into the Weyr.

Uuni was, in fact, doing a very strange liesurely thing for her: reading. She was handling the delicate scroll with extra care - too much care for her nature, in fact - and when Avery came barging through, she had two choices:
One, act like nothing was wrong and she read every day, or
Two, quickly ruffle up the item, toss it aside and pretend that she'd never had any interest with it in the first place.
She went with the second option, only she was more careful with it than she'd planned in her head, and the shy, sheepish grin gave her away.
"Outside?" the words that she repeated hung in the air. Hah! Avery had been moping around where it was warm forever! It was about sharding time!
Uuni let out a long laugh and said, "You already look cold," before she hopped to her feet and stretched a bit. "You sure you're brave enough to take it, Ista-Avery?"

A brief twitch at the corner of Avery's mouth was at first the only indicator that she noticed Uuni's shy behavior, and the scroll she'd been reading [Avery, on the other hand, was an avid reader, just like her Kessy], and the brunette raised her eyebrows at the paler girl's attempts at wit.
"I'm from Katz Field, not Ista, you backwater ice witch." A sniff, and she slid her arm through Uuni's so they would link, the physical affection at odds with her haughty tone.
"Are you trying to convince me to stay inside so you can cozy up with that scroll again?" A smirk, "Are you attempting to read, love? What is that, a primer?"
Or maybe a letter. Avery's brow briefly furrowed at the thought it could be a letter from someone like Kess, pulling Uuni out of her room and into the hall.

The insults only made Uuni's smile broaden and she shrugged her shoulders as she bumped them lightly against Avery's. She was going outside, so it was as good enough a solution for Uuni. Being stuck inwards had clearly made Avery a foulmouth and a grump, and neither would do, seeing as Uuni certainly wasn't going to be Avery's shoulder to cry on with Kess absent.
"I can write, too," Uuni answered with good nature. "Care to see sometime?" A good dose of wall scrawling on Avery's bedchamber would suit her just fine. Only Uuni would never do something that stupid.
Uuni's brow cocked at Avery's furrowed ones, but she didn't bother asking to have an explanation. Instead, she allowed herself to be whisked into the hall and took a deep, solid breath in anticipation of fresh air.
"So, you gonna climb up the side of the mountain with me? You might pass out. High elevation and all, but there's a patch of snow left at the top. It's sad how little there is in the summer." Was Uuni trying to make Avery cry on the inside? Oh yes.

" Sure, darling, when you're ready to show me the love letters you've been scribbling to me, just send them my way. I'll have you know that I could make it up the mountain and back before you managed to toddle halfway up." Yes, the cold had indeed made the tan Candidate rather grumpy, the occasional bumps of their shoulders making her narrow her hazel eyes at the other brunette, but that always pleased Uuni. Avery, when cheerful and therefore even bitchier and clever, seemed to freak the paler girl out.
"I doubt I'll pass out," She grumbled, though far more quietly as she both agreed to the hike and took a look about the Weyr they walked through. She was still getting used to things, but catching on rather quickly. It was even more suited to her than Ista had been, other than the weather. Kess would've loved it.
The moment they were outside, Avery stood at a standstill, furrowing deeper into her expensive clothing, if possible. "Ugh, I hate it!"

"I will have you know," Uuni began with a rather upset frown. "That I do not toddle anywhere." As for the Avery making it up the side of the hill? Hah! She'd pass out. Uuni was forgetting, of course, that she wasn't exactly used to high elevation anymore, either. She would more than likely learn the hard way.
"How can you hate it!" Uuni chuckled after her. "It's wonderful." She unwound their arms and took a few careful skips forwards before taking in a deep breath. Although she could still burn here, she wasn't going to bake, and most of all, she could play in the snow.
"See it?" She pointed up to the hill, along the hellish looking paths and slopes to a small patch of snow dirtied at the edges among black rocks. The spires of the Weyr loomed as well, just to add a bit more drama.
Of course, some of this over-exaggeration was Uuni's own perception. "If you can make it there and back with me without dying or complaining, I'll get your klah for you when we go back in."

"Oh, you'll be getting me more than a mere mug of klah, m'dear." Avery was muttering again, eyes narrowed at the patch of white up the mountain. Unlike her companion, she was rather in shape, and ran regularly. Tree-climbing and exercise were a part of her background and while mountain climbing was a little different, she was sure she'd be fine, despite the elevation.
Tossing her curls irritably, she clenched and released her gloved hands once, lifting a leg experimentally. Limber enough. Besides, the run would warm her. That at least might be nice, not over-heating. Galvanized into movement at the thought, she strode past Uuni, aiming a light slap for the girl's butt as her voice carried lightly over her shoulder.
"If you die, I'm not carrying your carcass back."

Uuni froze warily after the slap with sting of it in her muscles. For a moment, she stood there staring straight ahead. Swallowing and biting her lip, she shook her head and pulled herself together to trot off after Avery.
Everything about that had been a little too familiar for comfort.
Digging down and finding that positive peppy air again, she came up alongside the curly haired woman and put the perpetual pleased expression back on.
"Ah, that's easy. You can just roll me down the hill and into the lake." She winked at Avery and started the scramble up the steep incline, dislodging several bits of shale as she went.
And she began to realize how scraped up her hands were getting. Well, that wouldn't do. Damn.
So Uuni tried to walk up without using her hands to support herself. She had several episodes of almost falling on her hind end before she successfully managed to do so.
She gave a squeak and flopped down, rather gracefully for a fall. Pretending she had meant to do such a thing, she waved in Avery's direction just in case the girl had looked at her when she'd made her vocal outburst.

And indeed she had. Avery was glad for her gloves and strongly tipped boots, making climbing a lot easier than it otherwise would have been. Glancing back at Uuni immediately when she'd made a sound, it wasn't until she confirmed that the brunette was alright that she smirked at her.
"That's what you get for dozing off." Both of the girls had been spending a lot of time in their own minds lately, and both of them had noticed the other doing so as well. Avery didn't bother to wait as she was slowly beginning to sweat and she didn't want it to turn cold.
This was not exactly 'fun', but the brunette found she didn't mind. She'd always enjoyed a work-out, and the two didn't need to speak while they climbed, other than the occasional remark or laugh.
In fact, it was cheering her up.

"I was just taking a respite!" Uuni shouted back. She waited until Avery's back was turned before she got back on her feet and started to trailblaze her way up once more.
By the time she'd reached her snow patch, she was huffing and puffing, but it was a decent snow patch.
Still taking in deep breaths, she let a small grin come to her lips. She settled down on a boulder that was nicely placed and caught her breath, watching Avery the whole time.
And when she was very sure that the girl wasn't looking at her, she scooped up a wad off snow and stuffed it together quicky before shoving it behind her back.
"Hey, Avery," she called out, trying to make her voice sound quiet and sincere. She was moderately successful at this. "Do you think you could come here for a second?"

Avery, having reached the top first due to Uuni's mishap, had her back turned to the older girl when she arrived, quietly and carefully packing snow into a ball in her palms as she hummed to herself. Waiting until Uuni spoke, her tone was light, casually surprised.
"Hmm? Sure, love." When the curly-haired lass turned, however, it was to hurl the gently packed [she wasn't, after all, trying to hurt Uuni] projectile toward the other Candidate's face.
How nice of Uuni to sit down for her. "What is it?" It was hard to keep laughter from her voice.

"s**t!" Uuni griped, putting up her hands and getting caught on the arm by the wad of snow.
Avery had actually grown out of her fear of touching the stuff. Well, well. But Uuni didn't see anything wrong with playing dirty.
A small chirp was Avery's only warning, and then four seconds of silence before a young, dull-colored brown firelizard popped into existence behind her and let his wad off snow drop toward its target: the space between Avery's warm clothes and her body.
Its task done, it didn't bother to take the trip between, instead flapping what little way it could to a few rocks and curling up between them with a yawn.
"I think I forgot what it was," Uuni responded with equal laughter in her voice. She'd be thanking Kess excessively for her present in one of those letter things.

"Oh, you little dung-eater!" Avery's angry howl definitely encouraged the little brown to flap away, her quick reaction luckily stopping the snow from going down the inside of her jacket. Instead, she took the snow on her arms and face, quickly brushing it off her neck before it could slide further down her heated skin.
Eyes narrowed, the leggy Candidate found herself striding toward Uuni, her intent unclear. "Come here, hmm?" Oh, it was a dark, dark day on that mountain, despite the shining sun.
She crooked a gloved finger.

Uuni eventually managed to contain her laughter as Avery began too look quite upset. But, how upset could she be with a innocent young woman and a firelizard who might as well still have been a baby?
Still, Uuni wasn't budging. She was safe on her bolder, in theory. "Sex in the snow, Avery? I'm flattered, really, but don't you think it's a bit cold for your first day out?" She was proud of her little speech, and she would gladly suffer any consequences that followed.
But before she'd suffer those consequences, she'd run like mad back down the hillside. Hopefully Avery wouldn't grab her first.
But, for now, she remained routed to her rock perch in anticipation of what Avery would do in her not-quite-wrath, some of her clothes darker in patches where the snow had begun to melt.

Avery raised an eyebrow, slim hands removing the gloves shielding them from the cold. She resisted the urge to hiss at the feeling of the air against her hot fingers, though it wasn't one of displeasure.
"I'm surprised you caught my drift so quickly, Uuni." A smirk and fingers began to undo the ties to her jacket, hazel eyes locked on the other girl. She liked to keep Uuni on her toes, and this would definitely be a surprise. It made Avery's life more interesting, that was for sure.
Besides, no matter how this went down, Avery would win. Either Uuni would accept [it'd been awhile, in their book], or Uuni would flee and Avery could mock her for sevendays.
