"Hey," Kesslan's voice was oh-so soft, warm, even, as she let the fingertips of her left hand trail lightly over the brunette's face, trying to wake her gently. The blonde had been content to sit quietly, conversing with Condoroth silently until the sun had begun to fade.

It was near dusk now, close to dinner and both the girls and dragonet needed to eat. Grinning when Uuni opened her eyes, Kess's tone was conspiratory, eyes wide and making her look quite innocent.

"Not so much drool this time!"

Condor was out of the water, now, her blue eyes on the previously napping brunette, and she let out a friendly croon to see her awake.

Had she really wasted all of the day here? was her first thought as consciousness took hold of her once more. The second one, well, she never got to think it, because Kess's voice interrupted her thoughts.

"Hi to you, too," she muttered and sat up looking thoroughly embarrassed and aggravated. Luckily, her hair hadn't gotten too ruffled, but she worked with smoothing it out anyway. It wouldn't do for anyone to see her looking like she'd just gotten out of bed or worse.

Blinking quite a few times to remove the tiredness, she set her gaze on the setting sun. This reminded her of something, and she looked back at Kess and finally smiled.

And, shards, she must have been really tired, because now her back was throwing a fit. She felt numb in a few places and sore in quite another. Maybe that position hadn't been as relaxing as she thought. Trying to get rid of the tingle going through her arm, she flexed her fingers.

"Did you really not move all that time?" she asked, and then added, "Faranth, your poor a** must be terribly sore." Probably her legs too. It was official; Kess was weird.

She was definitely weird, particularly so since the hatching. The blonde near-smiled, lifting one shoulder in a noncommital shrug as she slowly got to her feet, stretching.

"I'm used to holding still for long periods of time." Said casually, she handed Uuni her klah mug [now empty as Kess had been drinking it], reaching out with her now free hand to stroke Condoroth's soft skin.

Mine, do you hunger?

Kess smiled, already knowing that Condoroth wouldn't admit to her own hunger, and this was as close as she would get.

"Yeah, Condor, let's get something to eat."

A glance for Uuni. "Want to walk with? Get some blood flowing through ya again."

Uuni gave her another confused look. Used to sitting still for long periods of time doing what? Watching the grass grow? Letting the thought wander off into oblivion, Uuni took the empty mug and couldn't help but to have one of those five-year old immature thoughts that went, 'if Kess was drinking out of the same mug I was, it's like an indirect kiss.' When she did think about how hilariously dumb that thought was, she laughed out loud; it was a short, sweet sound before she nodded.

"Might as well; i'm starved." Slowly, she started to get to her feet. She wasn't as bad off as she'd thought, and it only took a little while for the tingle to leave her arm and the numbness to vanish from their toes.

From there, she didn't at all seem to mind walking by Kess's side up to wherever it was they were eating. Uuni couldn't say she'd paid much attention when it came to feeding dragons. Perhaps this experience would be good for her. Kesslan, being the weyrbrat, was probably more experienced than she'd ever be.

Kess had been a candidate for many, many years, and therefore already knew the basics of being a weyrling. Including feeding her dragons. A good thing, as their real weyrling lessons hadn't actually begun as of yet.

When they finally reached the weyrlings quarters again, Kess paused before fetching Condoroth's meal. "... This isn't the most appetizing thing in the world." A warning, though if Uuni hoped to impress, she'd have to get over any squeamishness eventually. The blonde, for one, felt completely detached when she butchered Condor's meat.

A pause and she decided to be nice, rolling up her sleeves in preparation. Luckily, she'd worked out a way to cut just fine with the broken arm.

"If you want to go get some food from the kitchens, that's fine." Uuni was welcome to come back later, too.

Uuni peered over Kess's shoulder at the animal and then put her hand over her mouth and looked the other direction. Yeah; okay, the dead part didn't bother her, but the blood that was clearly everywhere and would be everywhere later made her squirm and turn her back.

"No, no, I'm okay," she answered although her eyes were staring straight ahead at the wall as she said it. Just hearing Kess roll up her sleeves was making her a bit queasy. There was certainly no appetite left there now.

"I'll just. . . count the indents in the rock while I wait," she muttered under her breath and tried not to put images to sounds.

Some said, when they got to know her, that Kess's humor as a tad morbid. Rinfala, for one. That being said, a smile rather akin to a smirk touched her mouth as she reached for the sharp blade at her side. She'd gotten rather good at missing the bones, and had no dents in this particular tool.

The sounds probably weren't very nice to Uuni as Kess quickly skinned the beast, removing organs and entrails and placing them in a bucket to the side. However, Condoroth was getting more than a little excited.

Mine is so good at that! Condoroth can smell it! Mine, Mine, Mine!

She never rushed Kess, though.

The blonde made short work of the meat, though she did take her time. Perhaps a candlemark or so, and soon Condoroth was being fed pieces of flesh, the blonde having already cleaned up her work-station so it was relatively bloodless.

"Not so bad, eh?" Poor Uuni.

Uuni made it until about half a candlemark, and then said, "I'll be right back." No one had seen her move that fast in a long time.

It was a while later when she came back in, looking white as could be and retook her position staring at the wall. This time, however, she made it to the end of Kess's work.

When everything was clean and Kess started talking, Uuni slowly ventured a look back in the girl's direction. There was obvious relief when she saw that Kess was finished save for feeding the dragon.

Okay. She could deal with this. Just a few, deep breaths and she'd be fine. "Not so bad," she reiterated. The dragon looked pleased at the whole ordeal.

How could a creature eat that? Granted, lamb was her favourite food but it was already cooked, it didn't smell like iron nor did it drip red in every direction or look purple.

To be honest, the meat wasn't too bloody. Kess felt the need to talk, hoping it would help Uuni keep it together. She had been completely aware of the brunette's earlier exit and reentrance, but couldn't help but be cheerful through Condoroth's mental and emotional influence.

"At least it's fresh. Fresh meat smells the least, drips the least, tastes the best, is the most tender, and it's the best color." As if to prove her point, she gently pressed a fingertip into it, before handing the chunk to her green.

An lifted eyebrow was shot Uuni's way. "Have you ever tried it?" Raw, flavored meat, extremely fresh and sliced thinly. It was actually pretty good, much like some raw fish.

Uuni's eyes were probably as large as dinner plates. She was casting Kess a raised eyebrow and a horrified look to go with. She rolled her shoulders and her whole body followed with a shudder of disgust when Kess pushed her fingers into the meat.

Oh, Uuni, don't throw up in the middle of the room. . .

The next words caught her completely off guard. "I'm sorry, what!?" This time her mouth was slightly agape. Was Kess serious. Uuni had heard, of course, but there was no way Kess was serious, was she?

"I hear a lot of rider's try it because their dragons love it so much." A grin. "They want to see what it's all about." Stretching after feeding Condoroth the last morsel, Kess cleaned up, watching the dragonet curl up for a bit of a nap.

"S'why I tried it when I first became a Candidate anyway." It was unclear whether the blonde was kidding or not. "Well!" She clapped her hands. "How about dinner, then?"

A moment later and she was out of her weyr, heading back toward the kitchens.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 25, 2009 11:18 am

Uuni would have to find out when the time came, and not before. However, she didn't think any amount of joy from a dragon would convince her to eat it. Her eyes watched the last bit go to the dragon; she was half afraid that Kess would try to feed it to her.

Kess had tried it? Gross. No kisses for her, ever.

Uuni was about to interject and say she didn't want dinner, but her stomach interrupted her and she realized that she might have been a little hungry.

Without bothering to refute, she followed along behind Kess much in the way an obedient dog would. She was too stunned to know any better.

The kitchens were a thankful invitation, and for once, the food looked halfway decent. Perhaps she really was amazingly hungry. And, because of this, she piled up quite a large portion of food for herself and followed Kess to wherever she felt like sitting.

The startlingly more cheerful blonde [perhaps due to her dragon's full belly and sleepy contentment] put quite a bit of food on her own plate, putting down at the table and going back for a mug of juice, as her carrying capacity was a bit low.

Now that she was at the table however, her gaze lingered over Uuni's shoulder for a full thirty seconds, before she mumbled, sounding exasperated and a bit amused.

"Here comes trouble."

---

"Kessy!" A vaguely sultry voice rang out without any sense of modesty and their semi-private meal was interupted by a leggy, curly-haired young woman. Grinning, Avery took a seat without invitation, brushing Kess's bangs from her eyes [the blonde looked rather resigned] before congratuating her.

"Of course you would steal the prettiest of the greens for yourself. Tsk, and look at that arm. Always seeking attention, aren't you, love?"

Pale eyes locked on Uuni, and the bet-taker freely let her gaze examine the slightly older woman. "And you... Must be Uuni." Another flashing grin on her tan face as she stuck out a hand for a lingering squeeze of greeting. "Avery, of the Flats."

She didn't need to say which Flats, and considering that Uuni'd been here several years [Avery had been here three], she'd probably heard of the bet-taking Candidate, though whether they'd actually seen each other was a different story entirely.

"Hm?" she asked as she pulled at a piece of bread to stuff into her mouth. She chewed on it thoughtfully until the 'Kessy' rang out across the dining hall. Uuni barely allowed a glance in that direction.

There was hardly any need to look farther as she swallowed down some of her meal for the bringer of loud noises had promptly sat herself down.

If it weren't for the loud, over-confident voice, Uuni might have had different thoughts. As it was, she let a smile crack over her face. She extended her hand across the table as though she'd done this a thousand times.

Either her reputation had gotten the best of her, or Kess had been talking about her. Or did she know this girl? There was something very similar about the curve of her body and the color of her eyes. A touch of sorrow came with that knowledge and she passed it off as something else.

"Ah, the one practically stealing everyone's money from under their noses," she answered with a grin. She let her nails slide along the girl's palm as she retracted her hand. "We haven't met before, have we?"

Sighing, Kess offered her drink to the curly-haired brunette, who turned it down with a face once she saw the contents weren't either hot, nor iced, klah. "Yes, that's her."

Continuing with her own meal, as if she wasn't planning on involving herself in the conversation, the blonde made one last, idle comment. "If you'd met her, you'd remember."

A grin from Avery neither confirmed, nor denied the accusation, and she shot Kesslan an amused look. "You'd know, mmn?"

-------

Moving on, she let her eyes run back to Uuni, making a brief clicking noise with her tongue. "Always hiding the lovliest things from me. I thought we were friends?"

A clap of her hands, similar to the one Kess had done earlier, and Avery discarded that conversational topic. "Steal? I never steal. They willingly place their bets. I can't change fate, you know."
