Story: She was living in an apartment with her owner, Michiru, for a long time with no problems. Michiru made bisque dolls (like Volks and Dream of Doll) for a living and wrote manga on the side. She would create cute outfits for the dolls, even some outfits for Odette and take lots of pictures to upload online. She would always make time for Odette so they could play together, until one day Michiru's boss got on her case-he always had something horrible to say to her. Time after time he would yell and complain about due dates etc, and gradually Michiru spent more time working and less time with her beloved kitty.
Odette was very unhappy, and no matter what she did to try and help, it seemed she only got in the way, and so one day... she ran away. She figured it would be better that way. Michiru could get her work done, and her boss wouldn't yell at her, and perhaps... perhaps.... Michiru would be happy. Now Odette wanders, looking for a new home. She has her sights set on the famous NyanNyan Mansion because of the rumors she heard of the mysterious Wild Cat's collar being there. Ever since she heard about Wild Cat, it set her heart a-fire. She wishes she could have met him. Perhaps one day though she can at least find his collar!

Odette Loses The Collar

A few days had gone by, and Odette had quickly picked up a new routine. First the search for food: trashcans, handouts, anything was fair game. But she had to admit it was rather strange having to dig through garbage. It could, at times, be very unpleasant. This led to step two of routine. She would continue her struggle against her collar which was ever so slowly becoming more and more torn. She clawed and chewed and rolled around in the dirt. But that was exactly why this was step 2 of the day. Step 3 was bathing. After eating and a workout, the fountains, and ponds could be most wonderful. Even birdbaths were fun to play in, though generally people didn't appreciate her presence there-scaring off the birds. But at least she was clean.

One morning after her bath, she had crawled out of a park fountain to dry. Her clothes were drying too in the hot sun right next to her on the granite structure. Not many people or cats were around today, and she wondered why. At least not in the area. Lucky for her: she was shy about baths in front of other cats.

As she fanned herself to help the drying process along, she absent-mindedly tugged at her soaked collar. It bothered her that it took so much longer to dry than her other clothes. And with it becoming more and more frayed, the dangling pieces drove her crazy. Now it was soft and damp...and even looser than before. Her eyes widened as she tugged at the fabric. Today it seemed different, weaker. She pulled hard, and with a swift yank, and a loud rip, the collar was no longer around her neck, but in her hands. She gaped, speechless for a moment, and then to doublecheck she peered into the fountain.

Her refelction showed a distinct mark that the collar had left. "I'm free," she whispered. "And maybe Michiru is 'free' now too." She smiled and redressed quickly.

But she pocketed the collar. She had thought long and hard about ditching it somewhere. But it couldn't be just anywhere. Until she decided, she was going to hold onto it. Maybe once she achieved her dreams she would gain some wisdom as to where it should go. <3

Odette Leaves Home

Odette paced back and forth on the windowsill before finally settling down and staring back at her owner, Michiru. The girl was draped over a desk, half-asleep with an unfinished manga page resting beneath her. Her jobs had been re-prioritized. Making dolls and clothing would have to come after art.

Odette sighed, her tail flipping back and forth in slight irritation. She knew Michiru's boss was pushing her to her limits, and she wasn't making a whole lot of money either. But everyone said you had to start small sometimes if you want to make it big. Perhaps she would go from publishing bits of her story in magazines to just doing her own graphic novels. But she Michiru knew that was hard work, and it wasn't like she would have a team if she tried pulling away from the company. She couldn't stop running her story now. She'd lose a lot. And she needed the money to pay apartment rent, and of course take of herself and Odette.

The fact that Odette's vet bills, food, etc was a little expensive had the cat worried. Odette feared for her owner, and had convinced herself that she was part of Michiru's current problems. On top of that Michiru didn't even play with her much anymore because she was so busy working. There was nothing to do, but sit around the house and gaze at the window. Seeing Michiru in her unhappy, stressed state always made Odette's heartache. And that night, the cat made a decision. She would leave.

With her gone, Michiru could focus more on her job, and she would have more money for rent and food. They wouldn't shut off her electricity or water. She could be happy. Would she miss Odette? The cat didn't think of that. She only thought this would be for the best.

So the Perma made her way out of Michiru's apartment and down the stairs to the lobby. Getting out would be an easy task for her. People were always coming and going late at night in this place. It was only a matter of slipping out the door.

When she had her chance, she made a break for it. Once outside, she only stopped briefly to look back up at her owner's window. Tears ran down Odette's cheek as she sniffled and darted into a shadowy alley. Crying, she curled up near a dumpster and tried to decide her next move. The only place she had ever been outside the apartment, was the mangalot when Michiru brought her there. There were other cats there though. Perhaps that was where she should go.

She paused briefly, remembering the old trips she used to take there. She used to sit and chat with the other cats. They had told her all kinds of stories about their lives and such. But the most important story, the one she loved most, was that of WildCat. The thought of him had given Odette the final courage to leave her home. If she could be brave and strong like WildCat, maybe everything would turn out okay. She'd make new friends, and learn to defend herself, maybe even find WildCat's mysterious missing collar. Rumor had it was at NyanMan. If only she knew how to get there. But speaking of collars.... there was her own to deal with. Having it on meant she still had ties to Michiru, but did she have the heart to get rid of it completely? Perhaps she could get it off...but she would keep it with her. Just having it didn't mean she couldn't truly move on, did it? Only time would tell.

With her mind set, she began the long and painstaking task that was now ahead of her; taking off that collar. No matter how she rolled about, clawing at it, it was difficult to deal with. Even once she got it in her mouth, it was a pain to chew. She gnawed and gnawed. The taste was disgusting, and by the time she was worn out she had only managed to get it frayed. But that was a start wasn't it? Later she would try again. But before that, she decided to head for the plaza. Getting there would set her away from Michiru and start her on journey.

And so a lone Perma could be seen, running past the dim light of the street lamps, down the road to a new future. And as she ran, she could feel a heavy weight lifting off her shoulders. "This is it! A new life! MY life! Wild Cat here I come!"

Sexuality: Probably straight (she doesn't really understand men or relationships for that matter though)
Story: Amaranth was in a bad situation. She had an abusive, bad-tempered owner. And she was living in a small apartment with many other cats. There wasn't enough food, and they weren't cared for properly. She lost her sight when her human threw an alcohol bottle at her during a fit. The SPCA was called at some point to 'rescue' the cats. But Amaranth was so freaked out by then, that she was scared to death. She acted out in violence, and they had to use a stick with a loop on the end to catch her around the neck; where after she was picked up (by the neck) and dropped into a kennel. This rescue was shown on a tv segment about animal abuse; how some animals were beyond help, and would have to be put down, because they weren't fit for adoption. Ammy was refusing to eat or let people holder. She had to be sedated in order to be worked on so they could fix up her eyes and cuts. Amaranth wasn't aware that SPCA really was trying to help; all she remembered was the needles, and being handled by lots of people whom she didn't trust. Siam saw the TV program, and broke into the animal shelter to free Amaranth along with other cats. Amaranth was taken in, and taught how to fight, and how to rely on her other senses, instead of her eyes. Eventually she became strong enough, and left to take over, and become the master of her own territory. Siam and her army are in charge of West Ikkebokuro where as Amaranth ventured into East Ikkebokuro, and now lives in the Gokinu Warehouse territory. She has made an alliance with Siam, unbeknownst to most of the other cats; including her friend Odette.

Escaping Evil Part 1

Living with a bunch of cats in a home with an abusive, neglectful human; a woman who was also a drunk, Amaranth went about trying to simply make it from day to day. Her collar was too tight, and suffocating, and her hair was matting. Life was miserable. If she wasn't getting yelled at or hit, she was being totally forgotten about. But to her, being ignored was far better, even if it meant she went hungry and thirsty.

Speaking of thirst, Amaranth sighed, and wandered over to the kitchen counter. She was tired, and her throat was dry. The water bowls were all empty, and so were the food bowls. All the cats in the house were starving. The only thing Amaranth could think of, was using the sink. She could hear the water dripping, just a little bit. 'splish, splish, splish'. Leaping onto the counter, Ammy stepped two feet into the sink, and leaned over under the faucet. Her coarse tongue brushed against the metal, as she licked up as much water as she could.

She was in the kitchen. Across the room, sitting at the dining table was her owner. Of course she was drinking, mostly likely wasted already. When her eyes came to rest on her the tonkinese drinking from her sink, you could see her pupils widen as she fumed. "Get away from there!" she shouted, throwing her booze bottle at Amaranth.

The cat was caught off-guard, and when the bottle made impact with the counter it shattered. Glass flew all over, even in Amaranth's eyes. It also sliced her chest and she slipped and fell into the sink. Blood flowed all over as she rolled around frantically and cried in pain. She couldn't see, but she could hear her master stomping over to her, cursing all the while.

The next thing she knew, Amaranth was hoisted up by the scruff of her neck. "Damn thing. You've gotten blood all over and made a mess. You even made me waste my alcohol, stupid cat. Now I have to clean it up you little s**t." The woman growled as she walked, finally arriving at the bathroom. She dumped Amaranth in the dirty tub, where the cat continued to cry. She hurt all over, and her master was now leaving her to fend for herself, and she was wounded. Some of the more violent cats might decide to pick her off. How would she heal? How would she get her food? Thoughts ran through the cat's head as she heard the bathroom door slam. She was all alone now, crying in the tub.

What would become of her?

Escaping Evil Part 2

A week later, Amaranth curled up, huddled in a corner, hissing at the strange entrants in her horrible home. There was lots of loud voices. Someone was being arrested. But that wasn't Amaranth's current concern. Right now, she was avoiding a hard metal cane with a loop art the end, that someone was trying to wrap around her neck. She wouldn't let herself be caught though. Or at least that's what she promised herself. She didn't trust any humans anymore. All her fighting was to no avail though, since she couldn't see; her blood-caked eyes had dried shut. She soon found herself hanging by her neck. She choked and gagged for just a moment before she found her body dropped in some sort of cage. Were these the kennels she had heard about. She yowled and whined, clawing at the cage door, but she couldn't escape.

The engine of the SPCA van roared as the vehicle rolled off, with all the new animals that had been taken from the abusive, drunk woman's home. She was being prosecuted for animal abuse. Neighbors had called and complained several times. Action was taken.

Upon arrival at the clinic, the humans new they would have to knock Amaranth out to clean up her wounds and eyes. Chances are the cat was blind. They removed her collar, for it was way too tight, and had left a mark. They gave her a silk red ribbon collar instead, and bandaged her eyes. They removed the mats from her fur, and gave her a bath.

When Amaranth woke up, she was furious. She didn't know what to do with herself. She cried all the time, and didn't want to eat. She refused to let anyone hold her.

One day, a tv special on animal cruelty came to the clinic to do a piece on the SPCA and their recent stories. Amaranth was shown clawing at her cage. A sad woman's voice could be heard telling the reporter that Amaranth would have to be put down due to her violent behavior. She was supposedly a lost cause. She had been too battered and bruised to forgive and would not make an ideal pet.

Amaranth heard these words, and cried even more. She gave up her clawing, and curled up in the back of her cage. These nasty humans were going to kill her now? Th-they couldn't. This was all THEIR fault! Life was so unfair. Maybe she was better off dead though. No more pain. But then she shook the thought. No. I can't give up. But what can I do?

By some miracle though, in a video store a ways away, another cat was watching the TV. Siam, of the Siam Army; a gang that was in charge of the entire territory of West Ikkebokuro. "It looks like we have another rescue mission today!" Siam said. "Let's go guys!"

"Alright Miss Siam!" the other cats answered proudly. "We're ready!"

[19:05] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *nodsnods* I can smell then more than I can "see" them. Like Miss Siam smelled like . . . like booze. *laughs at the word; it still sounded so silly!*
[19:08] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: Well that's a good start. She did smell like alcohol.....in fact.....she smells like that a lot. *sweatdrop-laughs* But Soon you'll be able to 'see' using your spirit. It requires lots of concentration at first, but soon you'll be able to do it without thinking so much.*smiles*
[19:10] Mediciner1234: Elijah: See spirits? o3o L-Like ghosts? *ears tilt back warily; things like the afterlife, death, spirits, it creeped him out a little*
[19:14] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: well not...exactly.... ghosts makes me think they're dead *winces* It's more like...hmm *tries to think of a good way to explain it* oh I know! *snaps fingers* Like you carry that cross, maybe you're a little religious eh? So it's like this. *quotes* "You do not have a soul. You are a soul, you have a body." So it's like you're sensing their soul. ack, is that still confusing. *blush*
[19:21] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *ponders this* Oooooh, soul is the same as spirit. Okies! *Whew! The last thing he wanted to learn was to talk to dead people. Bobs his head* Can do, Miss Ammy! So how can I see without seeing?
[19:23] Mesuno Erin: ((the hard part *thinks about this* xD)) Ammy: Well meditating is a good way to start. Tune out all your other senses like smell, and hearing. Then close your eyes. You might come to feel almost as though it were an out of body experience. You soul can mingle with other souls. It'd be like having a conversation without talking. Each soul or 'spirit;' as it were feels different. Just like each cat's scent is different
[19:24] Mediciner1234: [XD He'll be a quick learner after the first few steps, I promise]

[19:26] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *flops on his butt and shuts his eyes. His ears stood alert as usual, but the kitten attempted to keep himself relaxed by taking deep breaths, trying to see what this "soul" felt like. After about a minute of breathing in an out, he felt himself go a little limp as if hal-asleep, mind somehow both wandering and blank* Like this . . . ?
[19:27] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: *whispers* yes, just like that. *plops down on the ground in front of him and also takes up meditating* *radiates her inner self/soul so Eli can try and sense her* Just try and feel for me.
[19:30] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *It was like trying to move without moving to him, or about as difficult as describing color to him would be. As such, it was impossible for him to say exactly what it was he saw - or sensed rather - as he tried to expand his "awareness". Somewhere in the process he became hyperaware of Amaranth sitting right next to him, though he wasn't sure if that counted as "sensing her soul"* I'm trying . . . *frowns a little* This is so weird, Miss Ammy. Like trying a fifth leg.
[19:32] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: *chuckles* Yes it is very strange at first. It's so new. But let the feeling in. Someday you'll grow completely used to it. Have you ever heard that even in-animate objects have spirit? You'll also be able to sense things like walls and poles so they're easier to avoid. But they are more difficult than sensing a living, breathing being.
[19:37] Mediciner1234: Elijah: They do? Wow . . . *No wonder Odette said Ammy was the cat to visit: she knew tons of stuff! Slowly sucks in another deep breath and exhales* That'd help a lot. I hit a pole head-on once; that really hurt. @3@ And I wanna stop tripping and having to move my paws against the concrete. It scrapes them.
[19:39] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: I'll bet that hurt. And pawing around takes up a lot of time which you won't have if you're being attacked. But, Well don't you worry then. This exercise is perfect for you.
[19:41] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *nodsnods, concentrating more on his "awareness" and tryign to tone it down about being hyper-aware of his physical body. Which was just so weird, honestly . . . He was thinking too much about it, and whenever he thought about not thinking about it, it'd just continue the cycle. Eventually he lets out a small frustrated sound, eyes squinched*
[19:46] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: *a smile spread across Ammy's face when she heard Eli's sound of frustration* don't worry. Just relaaaaax. *Ammy on the other hand could feel Eli-a nice warm feeling. young and vibrant, she could even sense his tad of frustration with a small waver like a ripple in a pool feeling*
[19:48] Mediciner1234: Elijah: I'm trying, but it's actually hard. =3= *Goes back to the deep breathign that had cleared his mind before, although now there was a pervading sense of having to push himself to make up for messing up - like an undercurrent beneath that little pond that threatened its smooth surface*
[19:50] Mesuno Erin: Amaranth: If it helps we can take a break. I know my talking probably isn't helping. *she gave a light laugh* So don't get too stressed out. It's partially my fault. And meditation is hard.
[19:52] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *thinks* 'Nu-uh, it's all my fault . . .' *huffs a sigh, ears docking* S-Sorry, Miss Amaranth. I can't even s-sit still and go blank. If you didn't talk me through it, I'd fall asleep.
[19:56] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: awww that's not true. *pats him on the head* "This is just your first time. Remember it takes practice. Ya know, I didn't get it on my first try either. It took me quite a few tries. If you want, we can work on the second step. It's much easier. Just working on your sense of smell," she offered.
[19:57] Mediciner1234: Elijah: Okay . . . *Still stuck failing the first step, but nods his head a little at her* So does that mean I have to sniff a ton of things and memorize them or something?
[20:00] Mesuno Erin: Amaranth: Basically, just so you can recognize them, just like using it for telling one cat apart from another cat. You can always test yourself if you have the help of another. *whips out a little table with three boxes prepared on it* *each box had a small hole on top* I have three boxes here. Each has an item in it. Smell each one and tell me what's inside. (box 1=fish, box 2=lemon, box 3=a tuft of Siam's booze smellin' hair)

[20:00] Mesuno Erin: ((totally couldn't think of anything XDDD))
[20:03] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *nods a bit, following the scents to each box and taking a whiff of the first one* Ohmanthatsmellsgood. o3o <33 Like . . . Miss Ara's fish! *She had fed him some the day she took him in. Moves onto the next box and sniffs, nose crinkling at the sourness* Um . . . No idea. Sour candy? Nowait, not sweet enough . . . No idea! *Moves to the third one hastily, knowing it right off the bat* Like booze and somethin' else. Hair?
[20:06] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: *applauds* correct. Even the second one, you weren't far off. The first is definitely fish. And for getting it right, here's some as an award. *hopes to cheer him up from his previous failure to sense her--she had no worries though that he would get better. Then eventually she would try it with her moving around rather than staying in one spot* Anyway, the second one is a lemon. An acidic fruit that might make your eyes water. Very sour. And the third is some of Siam's fur. It has the scent of booze all over it. *chuckles*
[20:07] Mediciner1234: Elijah: It'd smell like booze alright. *laughs a little, indeed getting in a better mood as he takes some pieces of the fish to eat. while the subject was up . . .* Why /does/ Miss Siam drink so much? It smells terrible and makes people do things they wouldn't normally.
[20:09] Mesuno Erin: Ammy: *paused to think* well sometimes I think it's because she's sad to tell you the truth. It's part of the reason she doesn't like humans. She started to drink more after the incident. 'tis also the reason she dislikes NyanMan....
[20:10] Mediciner1234: Elijah: *between noms* She drinks 'cause she doesn't like humans? *perks at the mention of NyanMan* Odette said something about them too, and Wildcat's collar, and that Miss Sia didn't like NyanMan too. How come?

Orpheus Leaves Home

Orpheus slept in the garden next to the koi pond where he so often played. He sighed. Everything was so...dull, boring. Every day was the same. He woke, had breakfast, cleaned himself, and sat in the large music room listening to his owner practice his scales on a large instrument that the cat had come to find out was called a 'cello'. Then after listening to the music, Orpheus would dart through the halls, and play with his toys. Followed by a trip to the kitchen to pick up any scraps that the chef's dropped on the floor. Then came time to play with the kois outside. That left him where he was now. Later he would have dinner of course and go to sleep on his big, fluffy bed. But right now he was just tired of the humdrum day to day same-ness.

That all changed one day when he was playing with the fish. He heard loud music, with a different beat. A pulsating rythm with strings, but they were played differently then the instruments that Orpheus had heard before. He wanted to follow it, and investigate. But he was always scooped up by his owner.

"Gah, I wish those noisy brats wouldn't cut through our subdivision. Their music is so.....so distasteful," he said with a huff, stroking Orpheus.

Orpheus grunted. Just because it wasn't classical, didn't make it not-good. He rolled his eyes as he was hauled back indoors.

Now his days changed. Instead of being bored, Orpheus would excitedly wait by the koi pond to hear the music pass by. One day he would be able to follow it out into the world and escape his droll life.

And that day had finally come. Today was the day. This was it.

Orpheus trotted past the garden hedges and walked over to the tall fence. If he tried hard, he could leap high enough. He just needed a little boost to start. Perhaps if he had something to stand on. The flower's grew up a white wood fence-like structure. It would be perfect for climbing. It only went part way up. But it was high enough for a jump's head start.

1 2 3 .......here we go!

Soon Orpheus found himself in the front yard. He saw a strange car pass by. One not like the others he had seen from his perch on the sunny windowsill. He tried to follow, but he was too slow. "Curses," he muttered.

This would become the start of his great adventure.

Letting out a slow sigh Rave reached for his glow stick staff, and raised it above his head making sure it was aligned with the collar. "Ready?" He twitched with anticipation, without waiting for a reply... WHACK! He came down hard on the collar four times in quick succession. Not a one of the blows causing the collar to fall off. Rave gave it a puzzled look and lightly touched the collar, which to his surprise fell softly to the ground.

"Owwww Ow ow ow ow ow!" Orpheus cried as he was beaned over the head repeatedly with a glowstick. He opened his eyes and grunted at Rave. "Raaave," he groaned. "What was THAT for?" He complained. The collar hadn't even budged. Not until Rave gently touched that is. "Whaaat? After all that? That's all it took?" He gave another grunt. But he was happy to have it off. In it's place was a 'free collar' the mark it had left behind. Now he was officially free. He pocketed the collar though, wanting to keep the guitar pick for later use. "Thanks man, I guess I owe you one though."

Personality: Being one of very few words, Theissen takes a while to befriend people as most find him a little intimidating. However underneath hsi quiet stormy looking exterir he is quite the softy. Very loyal to those he trusts and care about, he'll lay anything down to protect his friends. He's over protective of little Eryn and will probably always be his older brother figure even if the smaller no longer wants it.
Story: Theissen was pretty much born a street cat, he was from a litter of kittens who had been left in a box and dumped into an alleyway. However, Theissen was found by a street kid, whom saved him from being in the box and raised him out in the streets with him. The Human and Theissen bounced from Homeless shelter to homeless shelter and would attend late night raves. They were inseparable until the human died suddenly from a tampered batch of Ecstasy.

Personality: A little but of a wuss puss, Eryn is very skittish and doesn't trust others easy. Almost everything frightens him thus he isn't apart from Theissen for too long. Gentle and naive, he can be a little chatterbox once he's determined you're not scary. The little guy has no sense of direction and is easy to find himself very lost.
Story: Eryn was living happily with his human family in a nice little suburb town house. He had lived with them till they family had to move to a bigger house. The new house didn’t allow pets so they left out some food and left little Eryn in the house all alone. Several days later, while going through the garbage for food, Theissen heard the sad little mews from Eryn and managed to get the smaller out.

Ciel Phantomhive

Name: Ciel Phantomhive
Nicknames: Young Master, Sayyid, Bocchan (both meaning something along the lines of 'master' or 'head of household)
Age: 12
Weapon: Sebastian, His cane
Bio(taken from kuropedia with edits by me): Ciel was born on December 14, 1875 to Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive, and was shown as being a happy, carefree child. His family was later murdered, his house set on fire, and he was kidnapped on his tenth birthday, this being the reason he dislikes celebrating it. The reason for these attacks which was not completely revealed, other than that it has to do with the many enemies the Phantomhive family has gained by being the Queen's Watchdogs.

It was shown that Tanaka, a servant, was present during the attack and attempted to get Ciel to safety, but was injured while warning him. His kidnappers then sold him. His new owners turned Ciel into a slave, leaving a mark of his slavery on his back, and later used him as a sacrifice. What cruel other cats.

It was at this time that he summoned Sebastian, and exchanged his soul in return for Sebastian's help with revenge. He made his way back to his home which was rebuilt. That is where he lives now.

Name: Sebastian Michaelis
Nicknames: Sebastian, Sebby, Sebas-chan
Age: Unknown, appears to be in his late 20s
Weapon: Knives and Forks, his fists and legs
Bio(taken from kuropedia with edits by me): Sebastian showed up as Ciel 'summoned' him when his kidnappers were about to sacrifice him. In return for Sebastian's help, he gets Ciel's soul. Ciel ordered him to slay his attackers, which seems to be the beginning of their contract. Since then, Sebastian took the role of Ciel's bodyguard and butler until Ciel completed a personal mission of revenge. Sebastian is a dutiful and dedicated butler and bodyguard to Ciel. He follows each order faithfully, and ensures that the Phantomhive house runs smoothly. Despite this, he does not appear to truly care about Ciel or his well-being, as he frequently teases Ciel and occasionally puts his life in danger for his own amusement. An additional example of this is when he responded to Ciel's kidnapping as "terrible," but only because the tea he prepared would go to waste. He calls Ciel a "brat" who treats his workers rudely.

He seems to find humans, in general, to be "difficult creatures," but he also states that their struggles and lofty goals make them "interesting."
