Solo
He had seen three in-flight movies so far. Seven hours into his long journey to an entirely new continent, Johnny found himself unable to sleep. The others had been kind enough to give him their window seat, insuring the hyperactive boy would have something to look at. The flight was packed but relatively quiet. He'd brought with him some headphones and an iPod Alex was kind enough to let him borrow. Johnny would have to tell his roommates how much he appreciated it later. For now they were all asleep. They had mentioned to him that it would be a good idea to go to sleep sometime during the flight to make time pass by faster. The problem was, Johnny wasn't good at falling asleep and staying asleep when something as exciting as Paris, France awaited him at the end of the journey.
In-flight meal long gone, Johnny sighed. The stewardesses were very nice to them, Johnny being the youngest of the three. They were treated with extra care being as young as they were. Every so often the brunette stewardess would walk by and ask if they needed anything - drinks, snacks, that sort of thing. Johnny would smile to her and tell her no, they were fine. He didn't want to drink anything else in case he needed to go to the bathroom. He'd have to climb over two sleeping people to get to it anyway.
The blue with snow blue hair looked over at his friends. Lily was swaddled in a fleece blanket and Alex fell asleep with one of his books on his chest. Johnny smiled at them, reaching over to tuck Alex in with one of the blankets they'd brought with them on the plane. Alex had suggested Johnny bring some loose-fitting clothes to be comfortable since they were going to be on the plane for so long. Johnny listened but he still couldn't sleep.
Leaning against the airplane window, blue eyes were cast out over the vast sea. It was simply a body of water seperating contintents but tonight it felt like so much more. Like this was more than just a flight. It was a journey. Perhaps it was the journey Sinon had suggested he go on. What would he learn from Paris? Would he learn to be more of an adult? Would his mother be proud? Did his father know he was leaving and wouldn't be home for Christmas? It felt cold and lonely for a moment. It would be his first holiday without his family by his side, without his grandfather's famous holiday ham and the warmth of the fireplace washing over them.
Johnny looked over at his friends. They were his new family, he decided. He didn't blame his mother for kicking him out of the house. She was trying to save him from his father's wrath, which, last he heard, was getting worse by the day. His illness was getting worse. Johnny felt terrible for his father and pined to help him more than he was capable of.
Head against the heavy plastic, the cool night air soothed him. He pulled one of the blankets out from under the seat in front of him and snuggled up, drifting off to sleep. The stewardess walked by again, saw them all sleeping and smiled herself, walking off down the aisle to see if anyone else needed anything.
