Bazzite was on the prowl. On the prowl... for buddies!
After being cheered up by Aurora, the captain found himself with renewed purpose - he wanted to get stronger. He wanted to defeat senshi without taking their starseeds. He knew senshi came to the Negaverse and killing them by taking their starseed seemed kind of mean and useless. Why not offer them a chance to hang out with Chaos instead? Seemed like a much better deal to him anyway.
Virtus was the perfect guy to spar against - he could heal you if you got beat up too much! It was great. Brilliant! He'd also have to tell Virtus about meeting other Dark Mirrors. The guy was probably well-liked within the faction. Bazzi thought, how couldn't he be? He was a battlefield medic. Plus he was nice. They were like total best buddies when it came to... whatever it came to. Bazzi wasn't really sure but he was sure that he liked Virtus no matter what.
The captain just had to find him!

In theory, Virtus was a great choice for sparring because of his magic. It meant being able to do things they might hold back on if he wasn't around, and if they did not have any energy to steal and heal themselves with.
In reality, he was a little less useful.
To be good in a spar, he would need to have good fighting skills, and he didn't. He could not provide much in the way of strength, but he did his best and that often was enough to get through fights and sparring. He just did not feel he had enough to teach yet.
So he had to learn more.
He heard felt someone nearby and moved toward the aura. He recognized Bazzite soon enough and waved his arms frantically in greeting.
"Over here, over here! Hi Bazz!!"

Bazzite skidded to a halt. Just the guy he wanted to see! "Virtus! Virtus, hang on! Just stay there!" In a rush, the captain closed the distance between them quickly. Stopping in front of the Dark Mirror, the captain trotted in place to keep his heart level up. That was something he'd learned at the gym. "Guess what! I found a couple'a people to train, it'll be great! I met a couple'a new lieutenants and I'm helpin' 'em get better 'n all that." Stopping to strike a pose, Bazzite smiled. "But then I know we gotta train too! Have you had any practice lately, Virtus? Anybody injured?" He looked around, performing a scan. Nobody around but them! "...maybe you wanna help me out and spar a little bit up here?"

"That's awesome!" Virtus said excitedly, bouncing a bit. He was glad to hear that Bazzite had some people to help, as he was always glad to hear about anyone helping others. It was exactly the kind of kindness that Virtus stood for and approved of.
Being the Senshi of Kindness and all that.
He was also just glad to see his friend so excited.
"I haven't had much practice, I have to be honest! A few sparring matches and a lot of patrolling for energy, but I don't think it really counts! I need to get more focused on getting my magic stronger, not just doing my duty, though I do try to make sure I learn something when I'm out!" that was a long way to say he had not gotten any stronger than he had been.
Finding people that needed to be healed was hard.
"I did find someone that I healed though! And that was good, I got to see what my Super skill did. Ha. Super skill! But yes, I would love to spar with you!"

"Aww man, Virtus, that's great news! What's your Super skill do? Just more healin' or didja fix a broken bone or somethin'? Man, that's so cool. I bet everybody in the Dark Mirror thinks you're awesome. Why don't they bring you on missions an' stuff? I mean, you're the medic an' all that." The thought puzzled Bazzite but then he wondered if Dark Mirrors even had missions. Truthfully, he didn't know much about them at all. He wasn't even sure he knew why they were called Dark Mirrors to begin with. Did they share Negaspace or did they have another space to themselves entirely? Something to ponder. At a later date. "You know, we can make your magic stronger with practice! " exclaimed the captain, bouncing from foot to foot. He dropped into a fighting stance and smiled. "...but makin' your body stronger is important too! So why not give it a try? C'mon, Virtus. Can you throw a punch?"

"I can fix a lot more now, yeah!" He said excitedly. Yes, he left out an important piece of information, which was that he took half the damage of the injury he was aiming to heal. It was a bit of a weakness, but he was not deterred by it in the slightest.
He was there to help others, not worry about himself.
Virtus was puzzled as well, not sure if there were such missions out there. He frowned thoughtfully and smiled with a shrug.
"I'll help them as best I can, regardless! But we do need to practice, I agree! I'm so glad you want to help me get better and I'll do what I can to help you! You're such a good friend!" He all but bounced as he said it, truly happy in its most simple form. There was nothing stronger than friendship. Some said love, but to Virtus they were the same at the heart of it. It was just a different kind of love.
He tensed and threw a punch at the face of the friend he loved so much, though it was for the betterment of both and thus he did not feel guilty about it. Plus the chances of him actually landing a punch were, he knew from statistics personally accrued in battles, slim to none. Especially when his opponent was paying attention and conscious.

Bazzite was rather proud of the two of them - both like brothers in different camps but on the same side of the war. They shared stories, talked tall tales of battles won and lost. The captain thought of them as friendly rivals, each pushing the other to do better on behalf of their superiors. It was exciting to try and teach Virtus what he'd learned from the past few months of training. Since a senshi's abilities were primarily magic based, what better way to make better fighters than to make them well-rounded? Surely Virtus could through a good punch! Bazzite tried to keep himself loose, to prepare correctly for impact. If one kept one's cool and didn't tense up, one could avoid a great deal of injury. Bazzite definitely subscribed to the 'practice makes perfect' mantra. He was prepared for a great deal of things, but... a very light tap on the cheek wasn't one of them. Virtus's fist barely squished the flesh of his right cheek before flowing past like a gentle breeze. Bazzi was left staring. "Uh... that was a good first try! Yeah." he exclaimed after a moment of trying to wrap his mind around just what had happened. "Just gotta... get a liiiiiiiil' more oomph in there, Virtus. You won't hurt me - you can just get more practice fixin' it! Right?"

Virtus was pretty sure he had done a good attempt. He remembered all of Remarque's pointers, and all the tips his Senshi friend had shared with him. He thought about what Navi would do, and what the Court would want him to do.
Hit hard, of course!
But in the back of his mind he also saw the one fight he had managed to win, and all the blood he had gotten to spill with his flailing fists. It had been horrible, and he had discovered in that moment that he was just not built to cause pain.
His will to do no harm and his will to serve his court were a little at odds.
It resulted in his fists flying quite a bit slower than they really should be.
"I know, I'm sure it will be good to do more practicing but I really do worry about hurting you! You're sure you won't mind if I hit you harder? If that's what you want me to do then I will!" There was a very easy method to making Virtus do what he was hesitating about, or what he did not seem to want to do. And that was simply asking him. He pulled his arm back and swung harder this time, though he shut his eyes tightly as he did so.

POW!Bazzite was prepared for a hit but... wow! The boy cringed and took a few steps back, holding his cheek. Virtus wasn't the best at aiming but he certainly connected pretty well with the little ninja's cheek and jaw line. Bazzite spit out some blood caused by his teeth coming down on the flesh inside of his mouth. "That... was much better!" he said, grinning and giving Virtus the thumbs' up despite the pain. He purposefully didn't move for several reasons - helping Virtus take aim, gauging how much power was behind one of the Dark Mirror's punches and testing his own stamina against attacks. So far, so good. Now for the harder part. Bazzite set his jaw. "Now, let's try it with a moving target, okay?" With a firm nod, the little ninja started bouncing back and forth. "I'm gonna try to dodge this one, okay? So you gotta punch with your eyes open this time! I don't want ya to get cornered an' then you can't defend yourself!" came the explanation.

Virtus felt that familiar pain in his fist when his knuckles met cheek bone. He knew immediately that he had hit almost as hard as he had when fighting that poor senshi, maybe even harder. Immediately he felt a wave of guilt coupled with the dire need to make up for it.
His knuckles were burning as he looked at Bazzite with the closest thing to horror that had ever been on his face. had he just ruined his friendship? had he hurt Bazzite badly? He reminded himself that he could make it better: he could heal it, but the dread settled. He just was not built to cause damage, it was like two magnets pushing apart.
"A...are you sure?" he asked hesitantly, though he was bound by his own nature to follow any instruction, and agree to any request. He made sure his eyes were open as he took a breath, then moved to swing one more time. But he really, really didn't want to hit him again, and was hoping that Bazzite got out of the way.

Dodging Virtus' punches proved somewhat easy due to the Dark Mirror's hesitation. Bazzite dodged this way and that, swaying and steadying his balance as Aubrey taught him to. As incentive to try harder, every time Virtus missed a punch, Bazzite would poke him in the side or the stomach. It wasn't a hard poke but enough to push the Super Senshi forward just a tad. "You're doin' good, Virtus!" cheered the Captain, swaying around another fist. He tried to get fancy, turning this way and that in an attempted to mimic the fluid motions with which Schorl seemed to move. Flowing like water, she would say, and to redirect movement. It was too bad that Bazzite was paying more attention to flowing than to dodging, because during one turn he managed to catch a fist to the face and went stumbling backwards with the beginnings of a black eye. He chuckled as he hit the ground, sitting up by using one arm as a prop, the other hand holding his left eye. "Wow, Virtus! You got an arm on you!"

Virtus felt a whirr rumbling in his chest and stomach, and he could not decide if he was excited about what he was doing, or if he was upset by it. Did he enjoy this sparring, fighting? Or did he hate it, like he thought he did? Hate was too strong a word.
Maybe it was one of those things that was good in certain situations, but not so good in others?
He wasn't sure yet, but right now he was feeling a rush of energy and he almost bounced when Bazzite said he was doing good. No one would ever lie, after all, and certainly not pad the truth just to make him feel better about himself. So clearly he must have been doing better than he thought!
His good mood stopped when Bazzite hit the ground.
"Oh, no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hit you in the eye!" And he could see the bruising, moving to offer his hand to help the other up. He thought better and stooped to kneel next to him instead. "Do you want me to heal it?"

Bazzite chuckled, hand still over his eye. "It's okay! It's not that bad." At least, not yet. Black eyes take a little bit to form anyway. He smiled brightly at his Dark Mirror companion. "Hey, don't give me that look. I kinda asked you to help me out. Shows me not to be a butt and to take it seriously. Cuz you know, what if you were a senshi? Like a bad one? I gotta pay more attention even if they're lower than me, you know? Gotta always be on guard and all that." Bazzite sat up and crossed his legs to sit more comfortably. He removed his hand and his eye was swelling up and watering pretty badly and he could barely see out of it. His vision was positively swimming. "Uhh... yeah, Virtus, if you wouldn't mind, it'd be awesome if you could fix this up for me. I mean, it'd help both of us, you know? You get practice and..." Bazzite chuckled. "...well, I don't get a black eye! Win-win!"

Virtus looked guilty but he smiled at the Negaverse Captain with a hint of encouragement in his expression. He had managed to do a good job in a sparring match, if doing a good job was measured in how many blows he could land and what bruises he made.
He tried to look at the positive, as per usual.
When Bazzite removed his hand from his eye Virtus made a face that he had never made before, and likely would never make again. It required facial muscles to pull in a way they were not used to pulling to, and instantly forgot how as the moment passed. But, for a brief second, he looked mortified.
He smiled though, and nodded, sitting down and reaching his hand gently to touch Bazzite's face. He focused, and called his magic.
"Exura Sio!" He used his first level attack, because the injury was not too serious, and it healed up nicely enough, though there would be a little color and tenderness left behind.

That familiar warmth made Bazzite smile, reaching up to touch his once-injury tenderly. He smiled up at Virtus. "Man, you see? You got two kinds of practice today. I just wanna be sure you can defend yourself cuz... them White Moon Senshi are serious trouble. I don't want 'em beatin' on my little buddy Virtus." Once his face felt whole again, the captain jumped up like nothing even happened. "That was great, Virtus! Man you could set up some kinda battlefield medical tent an' fix everybody up like nothing even happened. How come they didn't promote you to somethin' totally awesome in the Dark Mirror peeps thing yet, huh?" Playfully did Bazzite clap Virtus on the shoulder, grin shining. He bounced again from foot to foot. "How you feelin'? Was that too much?"
