Jumping from tree to tree while doing the utmost impressive gymnastics feats, backwards, was just something that ninjas did.

And Bazzite was a ninja, plain and simple.

The best area to practice this Ninja Art was in the back areas of the parks that connected to children's playgrounds and the elementary school. The higher up Bazzite was, the more his adrenaline pumped and the riskier a fall would be. But how could one get better without the risk? The new captain didn't think pussyfooting around the lower branches would do him any good. Therefore he was at least three stories up in the lofty branches of prodigious oaks, leaping and flipping from limb to limb. In his mind, he was dodging the utmost deadly projectiles fired by the meanest, baddest, more badass space pirates his little bean of a brain could come up with and so far, he was winning.

Because that's what ninjas did.

Schörl had found this new lifestyle took a fair amount of getting adjusted to, particularly the imbalances in personal and environmental flow caused by the flux of whatever it was the higher ups did in one's chest to activate or awaken someone into their little club.

It left her feeling more on edge, every waking, like a cup that had vibrated half off the edge of a table with hours passing full of loud bass from a party downstairs...one that needed to be realigned properly before it fell off with another riff to smash into a hundred ceramic pieces. She had the cure. Neijia leveraged the mind and softness, stance and form, against the tension in her limbs. She flexed and stretched step by step through a form, involving every muscle in every breath as her muscles flowed through the more practical rapid motions of actual fighting instead of the patient slow ache of practice only. She had no physical opponent before her, but that was fine, so far, as her opponent as defined was her own self.

At least, until she heard something in the trees, and looked up parting-the-horses-mane. Someone else...practicing...?

Bazzite initiated his third back flip through this pass and as he arced overhead, finally saw someone far below.

Someone like him!

The captain was nothing if not interested in meeting people and so, as soon as he landed safely on another branch, he began his descent. Branches flew by faster than he'd anticipated - an improvement from his recent promotion, among other things. Landing lightly on the ground, Bazzite broke immediately into childish curiosity. "HIYA!" The captain grinned and waved, watching with special interest as the woman moved like water.

He'd seen something like that before. But where...?

"I'm Cap'n Bazzite but you can call me Bazzi. I don't think I've met you before. How you doin'? Are you new? What's your name?"

She did not pause in her form, wincing a little as the boisterous exclamations interrupted her flow. But the power signature was like to hers. A title of rank...higher...than hers. He was...young. There had best be something that made him special.

"Captain Bazzite," She sped her motions to finish her form quickly with the precision of a scalpel, then bowed to him. "Lieutenant Schörl, I am a new recruit."

"May I be of some service? " that hopefully wasn't just gawking and exclaiming at. An alarming sort of ball of energy.

The bow threw him for a loop.

Bazzite was the one who usually gave out those motions of respect, even to people ranked lower than he was. He didn't consider himself higher than anyone else on the food chain, just that he had more responsibility. As a captain, it was his duty to help guide others in the Negaverse but he was generally too pea-brained to do that. Instead, he thought his talents lie in making friends rather than giving orders, which was exactly what he set out to do whenever he encountered someone he didn't know.

Blinking, the captain had to process that someone was addressing him by rank, never having known him otherwise. The boy flapped his hands back and spazzed a little bit. "Uh... no no! I mean there's no reason to be so formal, you know? I just saw you doin' what you were doin' so I thought I'd come by and say hello since I never met you before. It's nice ta meetcha, Schorl!" Schorl... scho...rl... yeah. I'll get that down. Yep. Schorl.

Oh, now what? He'd interrupted her and she looked a smidge annoyed. Not good. "Umm... was that.. is that tai chi? That you were doin'?" His voice hinted at a great deal of trepidation. The display of respect really rattled the boy and he was trying desperately not to offend the lieutenant he'd just met. "I uh... I only ask cuz... I've been real interested in that sorta thing and uh... was wonderin' if uh... maybe you'd teach me? Please?"

Bazzi's blue eyes went into warbly, googly puppy dog mode.

"Do. not. use. filler. words. " She enunciated.

"Movement and stillness, solidification and fluidity- all these to focus on the movement and use your mind to direct the movements for body and brain meet at the same point at the same time." She narrowed her eyes a little, and flowed back into stance. "I will show you what I do know. You recognize Taijiquan from any other martial art; you must know something. "

And as a captain he should know plenty, perhaps could be her sifu. Was he just acting modest? She wasn't certain. The look of panic followed up by the practical grovelling seemed frightfully genuine. It wasn't unusual for a youth to be so gifted that they became teacher to their elders. But this boy seemed like an idiot. 'Bazzite', more like spazzite.

Schörl struck out with an open palm, trying to catch side of the boy's neck and send him reeling.

Bazzite blinked and stared for a moment. "Filler words? What's a fille---"

And before he could finish that sentence, a hand appeared from nowhere and bitchslapped him in the face, sending him reeling backwards into a pile of limbs and fallen leaves. The captain sputtered, flailed and sat up. "HEY. What was that for? Just swingin' your.... ooohhhh wait, I think I get it. You're tryin' to teach me, right? Showin' me your crazy moves! Well I like it!"

If there was one thing he was known for, it was wallowing happily in oblivion. Brushing himself off, the captain stood and maintained a healthy distance away from Schorl's arms. He didn't trust them. "Would you please teach me the Way of the Palm or whatever you just did? Please? It would be so helpful against the senshi! They'd never see that coming!"

Ever!

I don't think he even followed the conversation? No, he's completely convicted in what he's saying...still asking me if I woudl teach him despite my saying I was about to show him what I knew as a implicit declaration. "Explicit and implicit do not mean anything to you, do they?"

It was half rhetorical, half not. "Learn or teach, lift those hands."

"I use Chen-shi T'ai chi ch'uan. It focuses on chan si jin, silk reeling, and burst-power techniques called fa jin. It is martial efficacy. What has no purpose must be cast away. "

Schörl unpinned her brooch, and removed her stock tie to use - they were meant of old to be useful as a sling if a huntsman was unhorsed and broken an arm, so it would serve well enough as an shorter version of a martial arts ribbon. "Attack me, Captain, and learn."

Bazzite shook his head. "Beni says I'm not allowed to watch anything implicit because it's inappropriate."

The order to lift his hands was met with a firm nod and a smile. The captain watched Schorl closely, adjusting his stance to try and match hers. Her explanation of what she had learned. None of it made any sense to Bazzite. All he managed to catch was "silk reeling". Whatever it was, he recognized the initial form and that was good enough for him. Her demand to attack her was met with blinking and confusion.

While Bazzite did outrank her, Schorl smacked him around like he was maybe half his weight and she bench-pressed cars on her off time. He frowned. "Uh... well... okay?" Huffing, Bazzite backed up, stretched and then rocketed towards Schorl with as much speed as the captain could muster.

Explicit? He's not joking... This kid....was an idiot. This kid was her superior in rank. HOW did that happen? HOW was that allowed? Who promoted him?

Still, he was a lot faster than she was expecting. He countermeasure was a little late, meaning that a good deal of the force of his blow was still transferred into her wrist as she tried to lead him through into a throw - take the enemy's own attack and use the speed and force to redirect them.

Her wrist hurt, and he didn't really go flying, just a flip over her arm and landed right-side up on his feet where he maybe hadn't imagined himself standing and still next to her. She had a better idea of his strength and speed though. She danced back to fists' length, flourishing the 'ribbon' at his face to try to confuse him.

Well that wasn't what he was expecting - having his own speed used against him. Good thing Schorl was on his side!

Ending up next to her, it took Bazzite a few moments to realize what had happened and turned around only to be ribbon'd in the face. He blinked and batted it away. Fancy things like this were what Mariposite had, didn't he? In an attempt to be sneaky (though, in reality, Bazzite was anything but) the captain tried grabbing at the ribbon to pull Schorl towards him.

What he would do after that point... wasn't something he thought of.

"Tricky... so tricky! I like it!"

When the captain successfully grabbed the stock-tie-turned-ribbon, the lieutenant took initiative to reverse her backtread and use his superior strength and speed again. When he pulled, she didn't let go of her end, absorbing the shock though shoulders and followed in the momentumright into his close range to try to open palm strike him in the nose.

Nose shots weren't crippling, but they did force eyes to water and blind people if they landed. "Tricky?"

"Martial Art means a study of war tactics. There's no trick."

Schorl's strike was wholly unexpected and the smack of the palm against his face forced all the air out of his cheeks. The captain sounded like a suddenly deflating balloon and he fell backwards onto the ground, water stinging his eyes. He wiped the tears away with the back of his hand and, oddly, didn't look at all displeased. Quite the opposite in fact.

"That.

Was.

AWESOME."

The captain chuckled deep in his throat. "I like you a lot, Schorl. You're a real smart lady, real capable. I bet the higher-ups really dig you." Bazzite had no doubt they would - someone as strong and cunning as Schorl would likely shoot up the ranks faster than the captain could make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. People like that were really praised which was precisely why the boy was trying to better himself. With a huff he vaulted from the ground and onto his feet, dusting himself off. "Maybe I can be all badass like you someday!"

He exploded with noise and praise again...and...just
Got
Up.

Schörl quirked her head a little, her eyebrows nearly forming the question mark that was already formed in the grey matter behind them. He's an idiot, yes. But he's....impervious. It's like a tower shield of energy and enthusiasm that deflects all opposition. He's not nursing wound at all, he's undeterred.

She wasn't sure he was inspiring, but as she let the stock tie drop to leave them both facing each other with bare hands she felt a grudging rise of some purpose to this boy tingling in her need for Flow and Efficiency. Maybe he wasn't something wholly to be abandoned. He could have use. He could learn, perhaps, with enough repetition.

"Alright. You've seen some counters, Bazzite. Let's get specific. What I was doing earlier when you arrived is Form 1. Each move is deflecting, redirecting or throwing an imaginary attack....punches or kicks at different levels from the face to the ankles. Try to punch me in the face, and watch how I deflect it. I will flat my palm against the outside of your wrist and push it to the side while your energy would still travel you forward. Then, I will slowly mimic a punch at your face, and you will slowly mimic how I deflected, palm to wrist and push. We will do this back and forth 10 times, slow motion. It needs to become memory to your muscles, not your brain, so that the next time someone tries to punch you in the face, you automatically move to deflect without wasting thought- your thought could be on the battlefield situation and tactics. But that will come later. "

"Attack. Slowly. Like the Matrix bullet time." She repeated herself to try to idiot-proof the explanation. Hopefully his head was not so resilient as his body when it came to words assaulting it.

Bazzi sneezed out some blood, wiped it on his shirt sleeve, sniffed again and sighed. Clearly blood didn't flow much in his cranial region but he made up for it in enthusiasm and positive attitude.

The captain stared at the lieutenant with a gaze that indicated he'd heard the words but completely lacked the processing power to comprehend most of it. He heard 'mimic' and 'deflect' and something about palms. And then the Matrix bullet time explanation kicked in and Bazzite lit up like a Christmas tree, grin wide as a mile. He could do Matrix bullet time and more importantly, he understood what that was and was eager to do as Schorl had suggested.

"Gotcha! Okay, real slow. Matrix bullet time, okay. Okay." The captain cleared his throat, screwed up his face like a crumpled paper bag in concentration and did his best to remember what Neo did and how he moved in the Matrx movies. Sure, Neo had guns. And a trenchcoat. And sunglasses. But never mind that. How he moved was more important. Slow and steady. It was difficult for Bazzite to slow down - he was like the hummingbird of the Negaverse. More importantly, however, was his determination in not disappointing Schorl.
