Setting Out for Eowyn!
How long exactly had it been since he'd been out hunting? If you were to ask Merikh he'd tell you that it had been a painfully long time but then again at the same time he was well aware of why that was. The last time he'd gone out hunting, on a trip that was supposed to be a simple enough one, he'd gotten himself a bit roughed up by the Ayrala dragons. After that there was recovery time, then more training with his mother to get his skills to a place where they felt more comfortable with the idea of him 'possibly' going hunting again, and then so many other things. It seemed that each day there was a new reason for why it was that he wasn't allowed to leave to go on another hunting trip, not even just outside the city to fight with Ysali. He'd guess the real reason for that was the fact that they were positive that he was going to end up getting eaten by a Diabi.
Merikh was convinced that the run in with that particular beast had been a freak though. He knew full well that his mom had commissioned a few hunters to go forth from the city, to search around, and make sure that there weren't anymore Diabi about. Having one so close made everyone uncomfortable, even those who were much stronger like his parents. Knowing full well that the hunters had returned with the news that they hadn't found anymore Diabi made him that much more frustrated that he was being kept in but again, he could understand. He knew that being injured had taken its toll more on his mom and mother then it had him, it had worried them, and that meant that he really couldn't complain without looking like a brat. Instead he'd done everything that they had required he do before he was able to go out again. It included some of the most annoying little tasks up to and including a first aid lesson with a rather grating old hag but even that was something he'd been willing to do if it meant getting out of the house!
Finally, finally, after what felt like an eternity locked up he'd been given the go ahead though there was a catch. At first he was ready to freak out over the catch, certain that it was going to be something awful, until he saw what 'the catch' was. He couldn't say that he was too upset though. Her name was Yolana and she was exactly what he'd always dreamed about having at his side. Not so much in a romantic way but in other ways, Yolana was after all an assassin. Hired on by his family to keep an eye on him, to make sure he didn't get in over his head, it was often done for the children of important families after all. Given that he rather wanted such people at his side one day he had been only too happy to accept her on. Especially since it meant that he was allowed to finally go hunting again!
"I already have it all planned out." He told the quiet girl who was walking alongside him, the two of them heading toward the docks, "We are heading to Eowyn, to hunt the electric element dragons called Kiandri." He didn't really feel like tussling with another Ayrala if he could help it. Not because he was afraid of them so much as he was just plain pissed off at that whole breed of dragon. The run in with them had made his life a living hell and if he saw another one he was afraid what he might do! Best that he just avoid that particular breed, easily done given where they lived, and instead he'd head to Eowyn since it was a new place to go.
Giving the silent girl a smile he said, "I am all packed up and prepared as well, we will have enough supplies to last us a while, and I think that it will be quite a bit of fun. Not to mention I will be able to finally free myself of the awful stench of failure that I feel still clings to me." Sure, he'd beat those Ayrala but what cost? He'd been injured and ended up getting locked away at home like some sort of princess after that. It was awful and all he wanted to do now was prove to himself and those around him that he wasn't as weak as all that. Instead he was ready to fight! To kill! He'd get as many orbs as he needed to prove that fact. Glancing at Yolana he said, "I'd ask that you not get underfoot too much? I know my mom and mother are paying you to keep me alive but if you interfere too much then I will never learn. So please, only if you think I really need the assistance, alright?" He asked of his bodyguard of sorts, relieved when she gave him a nod.
"Good, good. Come on then, let's get going. We don't want to miss our ship." He said, hurrying forward a bit faster, Yolana able to keep up easily enough as though she were used to moving at such a pace. It was nice to see she could keep up, it made him pleased with the decision. From here all he needed was another assassin or two and the army of warriors at his back and he would be a happy, happy man. He just had to get strong enough so that he would actually be worthy of such a thing though. One day, perhaps, but for today he was just happy to have taken one step forward toward his big dreams!

Camping Out
After a battle with some rowdy birds Merikh and Yolana decide to camp out with Gellion to avoid a coming sand storm their none of them want to get caught in. While it will slow down their trip back to Soudul but at least Merikh gets to meet with a fellow Oblvionite so far from home, something that makes the hurdle well worth it.

Merikh runs across a hybrid and takes him on... though it doesn't go quite as well as he might like. In fact he got knocked senseless in one hit by the guy who didn't even take a swing at him. To add insult to injury the guy then healed him before walking away. Merikh means to have another go at the guy if he can find him again. After training a bit more at least.

The Tribute
Lord Draco,
I hope that this letters and the contents that I sent along with it reach you promptly. I apologize for the fact that I was unable to meet with you in person but with the threat of the Mara that are roaming about Eowyn I felt it more prudent that I stay behind. There are quite a few of them roaming about through the sand but I will continue to fight here, against these toy soldiers, for as long as it takes.
Enclosed with the letter should be the first half of my tribute to you and the Dark Lady Soudana, that being five Dragon Orbs. There should be one from the Kiandri clan, two from the Firani Clan, and Two from the Peisio Clan. Listed to make sure that messenger I hired isn't a thief. I paid him enough that he should get everything to you intact but one can never be too careful these days.
Along with the orbs there will be the second part of the tribute, that being four Mara heads. This is just the start of that I will be bringing back with me when this battle is done.
Merikh Cahal
The letter was quick, without any sort of flourish to it. He saw no reason at this point for their to be. All that needed to be in the letter was the basics, a quick letter so as long to waste Lord Draco's time on things that weren't as important as what he was sure the man dealt with everyday given his position. People like Merikh, those loyal to the Dark Lady, Lord Draco, and the Oblvionite cause, were there to make his life a bit easier by fighting hard. He merely hoped that in sending back what he was sending back that he would not only prove himself but perhaps catch the man's eye, so to speak, even if just a little.
Sure, this tribute wasn't nearly as good as the first one where he'd sent back a Diabi Orb but he'd make up for that next time. He had to concentrate on what was going on here and now after all. As much as he'd love to go on a good Diabi hunt, one where he did more then had the last time, it would have to wait until after the Mara had been dealt with.
Turning his attention to the hired messenger he said, "Make sure all of this arrives as swiftly as possible to Lord Draco, believe me when I saw I will know if it doesn't." He wasn't above threatening the guy. If the stuff he was sending didn't make it intact he'd in fact hunt the guy down and gut him in fact, but he didn't feel he'd have to take it that far. Yolana had found this guy after all meaning that he had to be trustworthy. The man took the now sealed letter, the heavy pack that contained everything being sent back to Draco, and watched him go.
It was only after he was out of sight that he turned back to his bodyguard, "Come on, Yoyo, it's time that we get back to the battle. We have wasted more then enough of our time on messengers and letters." It was important, yes, they both knew that but at the same time they knew that fighting the Mara was just as important. Aevah had let these things loose on the world in her foolishness, he'd merely take advantage of said foolishness to find himself better standing amongst his people.

Growth Prompt Merikh's noble blood has always given him a sheltered life, full of privilege and luxury. But now he is out on Eowyn, in the wilderness... and away from home where the other nobles might get at him. Nobility are always on the look out for ways to gain more power, wealth, reputation, many things. And one noble who's been eyeing the land/spot/wealth of Merikh's family decides that if the young scion of the family were to die.. it'd make it that much easier for them to obtain their position/lands/wealth.
How does the Noble try to take him out? How does Merikh deal with the attempt upon his life? What is his reaction knowing that he is being targeted because of his rank? Merikh and Yolana made it back to their small camp and he moved to set the heads up, the two Rock Mara heads next to each other with the Mage Mara's head on top. It was the start one what could be the start of a rather morbid looking wall of heads he thought to himself, "I think that we should see how tall we can get the wall of heads! What do you think, Yoyo? Yoyo...?" Looking around the area he realized that for the first time in a while he was all alone. Where had Yolana gotten herself off to he found himself wondering, then chalked it up to the fact that she probably had to pee or something. She was at his side constantly, feeling as though he needed a constant babysitter. Now that they were back at camp she must have felt she had a moment to do girly things? Shrugging he turned back to look at the Mara heads, admiring his work a moment. Sure, it wasn't as many of them as he wanted but it was a decent enough start given that he had already sent the first group of them off to Lord Draco along with the orbs. It was proof that he wasn't in Eowyn slacking off, that he was working hard here.
He lifted a hand up, scratching it against his forehead a moment finding that it was a bit itchy at the moment, when suddenly he smelled something... odd. There was a scent in the air that actually smelled almost flowery. Strange since there were nothing but some hardy palms in the area and yet it was there, if faintly. It was a scent that he recognized, though why he couldn't quite say... though a moment later he suddenly understood where the scent was coming from as the blade of a knife had suddenly lodged itself into his side. A sound of surprise escaped from his lips as he whirled around, grabbing at his attacker, but got only air as the masked person bounced back a couple steps, holding a bloodied knife in his hand, "How dare you?!" He spat out, pushing up to his feet, "Do you know who I am?!"
The one with the knife gave a bit of a laugh, "Do I know who you are? Of course I do, Merikh Cahal. I was sent here to look for you specifically." He said, lifting his blade up, grinning over the top of it, "Here, in the expanse of Eowyn, is where you are going to die, with nobody the wiser as to what happened to you. I am sure the scavengers will enjoy picking your bones clean."
Merikh went for a moment silent, his mind whirling. The guy was sent here to find him? To kill him? He felt a moment of mild surprise. Sure, it was a shock to find that a guy had come out into the middle of no where, tracked him down, and meant to kill him... and yet at the same time it wasn't really all that surprising. Merikh knew damn well who his family was, what they had as far as wealth went, their many nice things, a large house, land, and the like. He also knew that he was the only child given the fact that both of his parents were women and his grand father was an old man. He was integral to the continuation of the Cahal name, as such the fact that there hadn't been any attempts on his life to this part was actually surprising now that he thought about it.
The assassin took his silence for fear and started to laugh a bit, "Have my words shocked you into silence? No matter, it will make it easier for me to deal with you. Already my poison is running through your system, making you vulnerable, and soon I will deal with you as I have many others my Master bade me to take care of."
Lifting a hand to the wound Merikh found himself thinking on what the guy had said, debating over which was more important the part about the poison or the part about the guy's master. He felt it was the latter, "Your Master, huh? Let me guess, you are too devoted a lap dog to tell me his name even though you have the upper hand, am I right?" He could feel the poison prickling inside of him, the way that it was making his limbs feel heavy, making him feel a bit on the wobbly side. It was a paralytic, wasn't it? The guy was obviously a coward, he would wait until Merikh couldn't move and finish the job, he might as well be stabbing a corpse he thought to himself in a displeased sort of manner. He he wanted nothing more then to take his sword a beat the guy senseless with the hilt of it... but given that it felt as if it weighed a ton he doubted that he'd be able to do so.
"Why does it matter to you who sent me? You will be dead soon enough, there is no reason for you to know." The man said, watching as Merikh collapsed to one knee. He drew a second knife them, slowly closing in on Merikh.
Merikh looked at the guy, passed him, then back to him once more, "You won't even humor a dying man? Geez, you really are a hard a**." He said, finding it a bit annoying that the guy wouldn't spill. Here he'd hope that he would be the sort that would say too much, feeling as though since he had the upper hand that he could spew out the details of his nefarious plot regardless of the fact that Merikh might here. He gave a slight shrug, or at least he tried to do so if he actually did he couldn't tell, "Shame, I really wanted to know... ah well, I suppose if you aren't talking them you have out lived your usefulness."
The man blinked a couple times before he started to laugh, looking as if Merikh's words had thrown him a bit, "Out lived my... what in the world are you talking about? You can't even stand and you think that you are going to kill me? You really are a..." The man's words trailed off into a gurgling sound before crumpling to the sand, one knife having gone through the back of his neck and the other into some vitals in his lower back. Behind him stood Yolana who was quick to clean off the blades before hurrying to Merikh's side, inspecting the wound he'd gotten.
Giving a sigh Merikh let his sword drop to the sand, collapsing to both knees now, panting a bit as the poison he was given weakened him that much more, making it almost hard to breath, "It took you long enough, where were you? I swear if you ever take another pee break while I am being accosted I am going to fire you and find a new bodyguard." He snapped at her. He didn't much like this feeling, it was too familiar, like the time that he had gotten mauled by those Ayrala and he'd thought he was going to die. Only this time around instead of him picking a fight with something and getting in over his head someone had planned this. Not only planned it but paid for it, wanted him dead, and almost succeeded. There were a wide range of emotions that he was feeling at the moment, fear of course, a whole lot of anger, and relief that Yolana had been here. He supposed he would have to thank his mothers next time he saw them for their wise choice in bodyguards.
The woman said nothing, she rarely did, as she set to work tending to his wound. The first thing she did was inspect it, making it sure that nothing vital was hit in the attack. The knife wasn't a long one, in fact the only use for it was a quick jab to deliver poison into the victim, so at least his vitals were damaged. Still, he was bleeding and poisoned with something that would make it impossible for him to move for some time, meaning he would be completely vulnerable, and being out in the middle of Eowyn... well, that wasn't a good thing. They weren't close enough to any town for her to run for help meaning she'd have to do it herself. As such she went about digging through their packs, finding what would be needed from them to bandage the wound.
She tore up one of his shirts, folded the cloth over, and pressed it to the wound, then set to work wrapping it tightly to slow the bleeding. Once that was taken care of she looked through her own things, finding a few herbs that would be useful in this situation. She took out a dried leaf from her collection, and held it out to Merikh, "Put this under your tongue." She ordered him. Sure, he might be in charge most days but for the moment she was.
Merikh gave a hissing sound, looking down at his now wrapped wound, before he muttered, "I swear I am going to find whoever sent that guy and kill him." He spat out... then shook his head, "No, no... not kill him... I will flaunt the fact that I am still alive, stupid b*****d... thinks he can kill me. I am not so easily killed..." He muttered, knowing full well it was because Yolana was here but he didn't want to think about that he wanted to cling to his anger instead. Turning toward Yolana he blinked a couple times, "Put what under my..." He trailed off as a bitter leaf was pulled into his mouth. His empty eye sockets went rather wide before he finally collapsed down onto the ground the rest of the way, laying in a heap, forced to deal with the pain in his side and the awful taste in his mouth, "It awful, Yoyo..." He said in a muttered attempt at a complaint.
His bodyguard moved to get out a blanket from the pack, laying it out on the ground in the shade, and dragged Merikh over to lay there on his back, "Rest, Merikh, let the herb do its job." She told him, knowing full well how awful it tasted but it he wanted to get better he was going to have to deal with it, "Be strong. Can't hunt that guy's Master down if you don't get better."
Merikh nodded his head, his empty eyes closing, "I am going to do just that." He muttered, losing out against the weakness caused from the mix of his adrenaline running out, the blood loss, and the drug. He didn't want to sleep, damn it, he didn't want any of this. He was supposed to be fight, was supposed to be off killing Mara! Damn it! How would be impress the Dark Lady Soudana now? He must look so pathetic to her. He gave a sighing sound as he started to drift off into sleep, his last words a muttered apology to Soudana for the failure against the assassin and the fact that his Mara hunting was going to be put on temporary hold. He'd make it up to Soudana though, he'd get more heads, he'd fix this... and then everything was just a hazy dream scape.
While he slept Yolana was quick to deal with the would-be assassin, searching him for clues before burying him in the sand, not wanting any evidence that he was around to be left. With that done she returned to watching over Merikh, keeping him safe while waiting for the herb she'd given him to counteract the poison. There would be much for them to take care of when he came to, first and foremost getting him to a real doctor, but for the time being it was rest that he needed and she would see to it that he would be able to rest comfortable despite where they were located at the moment.
Eowyn may be dangerous but Yolana was even more so when being paid to keep someone safe. It was something she'd faltered at, though she had her reasons. She tell Merikh when he was better, that the man who attacked him wasn't alone, that there were others in his group, but it still fell on her shoulders that she had missed one of them. She could only hope she was replaced, as annoying as Merikh could be at times with his want to run around in only the most dangerous places she did at least enjoy her current job and wanted to continue with it, if only to see if Merikh actually achieved the lofty goals he had set for himself.
