Ok no. This was just silly. Something must have happened to scare the familiars so much. Wait... wait was that...? Sesha sighed. The same familiar that had just run off came running back, still shrieking.
Nora was dancing up a storm, and suddenly found herself in a flurry of Nezubats. "OH MY GODS! This is fantastic!" She couldn't help but dance among the flutter of wings. But this was boring alone. She reached out and grabbed the closest person. She needed to dance off this hyper activity!
Nicolae: 15 If you have an Orange Potion: You decide to drink the potion. For the next 2 days (irl), your character glows from their eyes and mouth.
"You give off the air of professor as much as I seem to give off the air of child." Nicolae sighed. "It's really quite a bother." He waved his hand dismissively. "Are you at least having fun?" He asked, and absentmindedly opened the orange potion bottle he'd been given. Without thinking, he took a drink, and his eyes and mouth started to glow. "...Oh for the love of...!" He realized what he'd done. "Well... too late now." He laughed. "Hey, you want to dance, Arthur?"
There were so many people and familiars, it was comfortably warm in the ballroom. Gallius slithered over to a bench to sit down and just enjoy things. He flopped onto the bench just as a familiar rushed out from under the bench. Where... did that come from? And did it just... vanish? That was spooky...
Naosu Naosu squealed in delight to see the adorable plushies. "You made these yourself? You're amazing!" She picked up one she thought her son would like and hugged it, grinning when it lit up. "This is awesome!"
A junior sits at a booth near the quintet, beaming proudly under their mask. These plushies light up when you squeeze their belly! The junior designed them specifically to give out at this Ball.
Aurora Aurora absently picked up a bat plush, too busy rushing around to really pay attention.
Gemini Gemini jumped and then blinked down at the plushie that had been shoved into their arms. Well that was...unexpected, and they were gone before they could ask about it. Well, they supposed the plush was theirs now.
You feel the urge to ask a stranger to dance. Find someone who is not currently interacting with someone else and ask them for a waltz!
Tinú looks in a circle again, looking for someone who is by themselves in the hopes of striking up a conversation and perhaps getting a dance. His eyes flit this way and that before settling on someone in pink and blue. He casually wanders over to them. “Hey. I’m Tinúviel. Tinú for short. What’s your name?”
Tinú smiles at the compliment and holds his hand out while asking “Thank you, a friend designed it. Would you like to dance?”
You see a stranger with the coolest mask. Find someone who is not currently interacting with someone else and give them a compliment!
Sylkie wanders away from the table back into the crowd. It’s such a crush, and she’s a little lost for what to do next. Suddenly she hears someone from her left introduce himself, so she turns to look. They have an exquisitely detailed filigree mask on, and it draws most of her attention. She smiles and answers, “I’m Sylkie Von. It’s nice to meet you. I love your mask, it’s so detailed!”
Sally nodded. “I’m in Eldritch, I like history and debating on archelogy afterwards.” She said, deciding not to linger on the odd pause. “I was debating on opening a small café and archive, tea and oddities, but now… maybe I want to actual be on a site of a dig and just learn.” She sighed, and looked down at her hands before giving a half smile.
“Do you mind if we sit? For a bit? Just a bit worn out.” She admitted and looked about. “And Fashion? Did you change your mind? I think you would be rather good at it. Your outfit is lovely.”
Arthur tried hard not to smile when his roommate likened himself to a child. Nicolae was astonishingly short, being a cherub, but it would be rude to laugh. Especially as it was not a trait the professor seemed particularly proud of. Instead, the demon coughed and acknowledged Nicolae's question. "I've been having my own fun. This kind of event allows for a lot of mental story writing about the students as they pair up in interesting combinations."
Arthur was about to point out an example when suddenly Nicolae was glowing from his eyes and mouth. This was too much. Arthur let out a hearty guffaw before he could stop himself. He almost missed Nicolae's question but thankfully he brought himself under control in time. It was impossible to wipe off the smile, though, as the cherub was still glowing. Arthur bit the inside of his lip in an attempt to stop smiling as he nodded. "Sure, a dance would be fun."

Eirian tried to get back in the moment and out of their head. They were intrigued by Sally's idea for her future. Either path, really, sounded fun. "Those both sound like fun. I've always been a fan of tea but who could say no to seeing history up close."
Eirian nodded. "That's no problem. Dancing can be a bit tiring." They started to move to a couple of chairs they spotted as a couple parted. Eirian faltered at Sally's question. Their pace slowed. "Uh, not exactly. I'm... Just not sure if anyone would want to ever wear anything from me. It's still kind of too soon to tell." Eirian turned to smile at Sally, "But thanks for the encouragement." The smile was genuine but tinged with a bit of sadness.
Yaruka smiled as she watched the aetherjelly move about in such a strange yet interestingly fluid manner. She'd never really seen one so close before....and apparently she wasn't the only one. Excited yipping at her feet turned her attention down to see a splotchy fennekit barking playfully at the jelly. Ok, this was just silly; why in the world was she such a hot spot for familiars? Still.....she couldn't say no. They were just too cute. ------------------------------------------------------ Mala watches as a scared familiar rushes by and disappeared, seemingly spooking her nephew.....that was still a weird thought. Still....this was a perfect opportunity to pester him a bit. She hadn't seen him in a little while. She was slithering her way over when a hyperactive fallen suddenly grabbed her for a dance! "Ah! I....b-but..!" Well, she didn't have much of a choice, now did she? As she was spun around someone shoved a little nezubat plushie in her hand. Well it was cute....

Oh Nora...
------------------------------------------------------ Sidney was adoring their new little plushie when a junior in a....comically tacky suit shoved a strange orange potion into their hands and scuttled off. What in the world? This was....warm....and dubious. ------------------------------------------------------ Avarice heard tell of a patch of baby pumpkas outside that could be pet....and while the offer was tempting, he was too immersed in what was happening right now; the young woman who was surrounded by familiars just acquired another one! This was amusing....and she seemed interesting enough that familiars were practically swarming her. Perhaps interesting enough that he should go speak to her. He headed in her direction, pondering to himself silently as he noticed she was alone and almost...avoiding people. Now THAT was interesting.
Vega was walking inside when a screaming familiar ran out the door past him. Holy cow, what was up with these familiars? Vega was feeling a little unnerved by all the screaming familiars he'd encountered... He really needed a friend to talk to...
Stepping back onto the dance floor, Laurentia had lost track of Oberon. That was ok. She heard a shriek off to the side and looked over, seeing a very startled kirin staring outside. She hopped over towards him. "You alright there kiddo? Come on, this is a dance, so let's go dance!" She asked Vega.
This was getting silly. She should be out making more friends. She should ask someone to dance! She was trying to give herself a peptalk.
It wasn't working. Miwako wrung her hands nervously in front of her, but then suddenly found herself reaching for a soft plush that was being pushed into her hands. She looked up to see who had given it to her, but couldn't find the source.
Morana was happily snacking, making sure that neither she nor Vera ate too quickly. Now and then, she would share a bite with her new familiar friends as well. A nezubat seemed to have been watching, and she supposed it felt jealous, and came swooping down and snatched a cracker right from her hand! She wasn't worried about it and simply laughed it off.
Sesha finally went back inside, hopefully away from the screaming familiars for now. He saw a younger kirin who seemed to be just as afraid of the screaming familiars as he was, but an older neko was comforting him, it seemed. Sesha started slithering back towards the dance floor when he found himself running into a large plush flitterat. His arms were around it instinctively and he began to apologize... but there was no one to apologize to.
She hadn't really waited for the younger naga to agree or disagree to dance before she had started twirling and dancing. As she danced, someone seemed to try and offer her a skyfish plushie. She thanked whoever it was, and started dancing with the plush. Where had this energy come from?
"So you're going to write about the students?" He asked as Arthur agreed to dance. "...You know, I don't think I've ever asked you just what sort of writing you do. We keep such different schedules, We hardly have a moment to talk at home." That was something he wished would change. He did like Arthur. He was nice, and so far they hadn't had any major fights about the house. Nicolae reached out to take Arthur's hands, but found instead they were grabbing a large plushie. "... ... Ok whoever is giving these out is really good."
Not only were there lots of people and familiars about, but Gallius was noticing all the familiars that people were accumulating. It was almost comical! There had to be 10 plushies for every person here! Well, he wasn't immune to the lure of plush animals, and he found himself with a stuffed skyfish with the cutest face...
Naosu Naosu gasped in audible delight to see someone's awesome mask and went to say hello and compliment them.
You see a stranger with the coolest mask. Find someone who is not currently interacting with someone else and give them a compliment!
Aurora Pumpka's? Well Aurora saw absolutely no reason not to investigate that, especially since she'd never seen one up close before.
If you do not have an Orange Potion: You overhear from somebody that there's a pumpka patch outside where you can pet baby pumpkas. Yaaaas!
Gemini Gemini saw the plushies piled up on a table and picked one up, then let out a soft gasp when they realized how soft it was. They wanted to take an armful, but having better impulse control than that, contented themselves with just one.
Vega: 19 If you do not have a Rainbow Potion: Someone taps on your shoulder and whispers something completely inaudible into your ear before disappearing into the crowd. What was that?!
Vega felt someone touch his shoulder. "I'm sorry... I-" He blinked, not seeing anyone there. Well that was odd. But then, a pink neko approached him, asking if he was ok. "What? Oh... yes, I'm alright. I just..." He stopped when she asked him to dance. "...Ok..." He wasn't sure about dancing with the older neko, but... this WAS a dance, and he couldn't find Leto...
She smiled when the Kirin agreed, though reluctantly. She smiled and took his hand. "I like your dress." She grinned, ear to ear at him. As they danced, someone tried to stick a plushie between them, but Lau had plenty! She shrugged the plushie away.
While she was giving herself the pep talk, and recovering from being given a plushie, again, she spotted a familiar tacky suit. She was growing suspicious of this kid as she was given another potion bottle. She stared at it dubiously.
Morana: 8 You approach a large tin barrel, where everyone is bobbing for apples, or at least trying to without removing their masks! Someone in a mask - probably a volunteer for the event - tries to convince you to have a go at it.
There were lots of games set up around the ballroom. Morana was pretty impressed. Vera however, was drawn to the smell of apples, so they went to explore a barrel full of water with apples floating in it. Bobbing for apples? Morana was listening to the rules, but Vera just plunked her massive maw right into the water and ate several apples as Morana freaked out and had to pull her tail out of the fruit bin and apologize.
Things seemed to be calming down. There were no more screaming familiars in sight... and really, why were there so many? Maybe the masks frightened familiars? Oh, that was something to ponder... As he thought about it, a little orange noise poked up from behind his tail. "Oh?" He looked at the little flitterat. "Well hello. You aren't screaming at me... I like that."
Nora laughed a little as she danced with the naga. "Come on, this is fun, right? This is time to kick back and just... let loose!" She didn't want to scare the poor kid too much. "Oh... and I'm sorry. I... I don't know why but... don't drink the rainbow potion..." She glanced to the side. "That was a real kick to the system..."
Nicolae: 7 If you do not have a Brown Potion: You see a fortune telling tent and decide to enter it. The person inside offers you a free riding.
Nicolae wasn't aware of why Arthur laughed, but he shrugged it off. He had a funny feeling that potion he just drank like... made his feathers stand on end, or they turned purple or something. Some silly prank like that. As he and Arthur began to dance, Nicolae spotted another fortune teller. He wondered if this was extra credit for students...
He was looking around, chatting with a few strangers. He thought, for a moment, that he saw Mala in the crowd? No, there was no way... right? Hm. Maybe he should go see her after the dance... What was this? A familiar young kid handed him a second colorful potion.
Naosu Another sweet familiar to add to the small menagerie Naosu had seemed to collect. She happily scooped up the rat and snuggled it. "You'll have a good home with me." She promised.
Aurora A fortune telling tent? How could Aurora possibly say no? She didn't really believe in such things, but it was all in the spirit of fun anyway.
If you do not have a Brown Potion: You see a fortune telling tent and decide to enter it. The person inside offers you a free riding.
Gemini "Oh, hello." Gemini picked up the shivering Vespercat. "Shh, baby. It's alright. What's got you so spooked?" They let the cat snuggle into their arms and just kept using soothing baby talk to calm it down.
