For Food and Safety Class Choice Solo Her legs were treading water as she looked out onto the coastline and watched a critter lean over to pick up a piece of seaweed on the shore. She wasn’t familiar with Haukea creatures yet, but it looked like something that could be eaten. It had slicked back fur, which to her was a sign that it traveled both on land and in the waters, and it was small enough that she could carry it back home with relative ease.
She reached down under the water and unfastened her bow from her back, and notched an arrow. Her legs kicked through the water and found traction on a nearby rock, the gentle waves pushing her center of gravity back and forth in a rhythmic motion. She was fairly new to the bow, but she liked the way it felt in her hands. Her family had always been hunters, but they had been hunters deep within the waters of Ka’lei. Bows weren’t useful there. There was too much resistance in the water. But in Haukea, the surface was so close, and the hapuna were always coming to sunbathe or sit out of the waters. It opened up a whole world of possibilities for her. And with the possibility of traveling soon, Etana wanted to get as good as she could. It was practical, but also for security purposes. The new people of Tendaji were foreign, and she couldn’t be sure they were all good. She wasn’t exactly an outwardly trusting person to begin with, and those that lived their whole lives outside of the water were just too strange to her already.
She loosed her arrow and watched as the small critter was pinned to the sand, the life already out of its eyes. At least it went quickly, that she could be thankful for. She strapped her bow over she shoulder and dove for the shore, her contribution to dinner taken care of.

Traveling Prentice Growth Solo After talking about it for months it was finally time. Etana and Pello were going to start traveling. They had talked about where they wanted to go and what they wanted to see and get out of the trip, and it had been decided that they would be going to Tendaji. It was crazy and slightly frightening, and it was a big step for them, but it was something to look forward to. Etana was warming up to the idea of meeting these new people that she had heard so much about over the years.
She had heard that more of them were starting to visit Kahikina, but she hadn’t had the chance to cross paths with one yet. Earthlings and Aishans. So very different than herself and the others of Kahikina. People who walked and lived on land, not even a sliver of living in water. It was strange.
Etana was busy packing her sack with what it was she thought she would need for the trip. There wasn’t much. They would buy, barter, and hunt their way through to the new world, but she did have some clothes to bring, some mementos of home, just small things. And her bow. She would need it now, she was to protect Pello and herself from whatever was out there.
She thought on the pieces of home she was bringing with her. Just a bracelet from her mother and a journal gifted to her by Pello’s parents. They were sweet. They gave her a leatherbound journal, very carefully put together and decorated, with a handcrafted pencil that was almost too pretty to use. It was to document everything they went through so they could look back on their trip years later. A very sentimental gift and it touched Etana. It was going to be difficult to be so far from her family, and from the family she had built with Pello’s relatives. Living with someone for over a year builds a different kind of relationship from the family that you’re born into. Pello’s mother was so sweet, as was his father. They had welcomed her without question and for that she was grateful and owed them greatly. She would miss them.
She thought of her own parents and her sister, the three of her own she was leaving behind. She knew her sister wouldn’t have been interested in coming along. Bane didn’t care much for the outside world. But she would miss them. Who knew how long they would be traveling, but she had to assume it would be for a very long time if they were to see everything. It could even be a year or more.
She finished stuffing her things in her bag and left the room, trying to find Pello. Maybe they should get together more solid plans, really know what they were getting into. Etana’s mind was already churning with all of the thoughts of travel, her brain already switching gears away from the people she would miss. It didn’t do well to dwell on those kinds of things.
[Etana and Pello have made the decision to start traveling, leaving Etana to think about what it’ll mean to leave her family in Ka’lei and even her temporary home in Haukea behind.]
