[ Pello 1 ]
It had been almost a year since they first looked at the plot of land. Since then, they had traveled and worked, continuing to build up the space. And now, they put on the finishing touches, the home liveable but requiring a place for their children to grow.
Children. The concept still brought a smile to Pello's face.
He suspected their labors might be paying off, but he wanted to be certain. He was hopeful, excited and he knew he sometimes manifested such things well before they happened.

[Etana 1]
Etana stood back to look at the place that her and Pello had built. It was small... for now, but perfect. It was everything they needed to live in Tendaji. They had made the numerous trips back to Kahikina over the past year, stocking up, moving things, deciding what it was that they needed to bring with them to start up their first home. Etana didn't want to seem greedy, but she was excited at the idea of a home in Kahikina and a home in Tendaji. Being able to live in both places and travel with their soon-to-be family.
She leaned a head onto Pello's shoulder and sighed. "I think it's ready to be lived in, right?" She asked him. The question more about whether he felt like it was ready than if it was actually physically ready. The house was done, but moving in was a big step.

He took a long deep breath, letting it go slowly as his shoulders dropped gradually in relaxation. He had gotten a little bit of muscle in the process, both from traveling and helping build their little home. He was excited to have something that was theirs, and hoped they could make it moreso a home.
Turning toward Etana, he grinned brightly, "Properly, even." He joked back. They had spent a few nights in there, but not with proper furnature. He knew they were both ready, "And possibly with a growing family." He teased gently as well.

Etana turned to Pello as well, her face showing a peaceful happiness that was normally hard to come by for her. They had talked about children often as they had constructed their home, and Etana's large belly bore the fruit of their efforts. She rubbed a hand gently on the stretching skin and looked up through her eyelashes to Pello. "You know, they'll be here sooner than you know. The baby feels so low already.

Pello wished he knew what she was going through so he could understand and support her - especially in the early stages with all of the confusion. But he quickly learned the best thing to do was be supportive (which he was great at, or so he thought) and get her what she needed as soon as possible. As well as just keep everything comfortable.
Otherwise, he was just a witness to the miracle that was a child growing steadly in the love of his life.
Smilign as he gently placed his hand over the child, he hoped they might kick in recognition.
"It's truely amazing. And somehow we timed it all right."

Etana nodded to Pello, gently moving his hand to the spot that the baby had rolled over last. It only took a few more moments before the heel of a foot rolled across Pello's hand. "I think this was definitely the push we needed to meet a deadline." She wasn't so sure they would have gotten it all done so fast if there wasn't a need to keep going with the coming baby.
"I think the only thing we're missing is the crib for the baby's room." She mused, thinking about all of the things they had brought into the house already. Sure, their furniture wasn't there yet either, but it was at least accounted for. They hadn't yet bought or commissioned the crib and some of the nursery furniture. Etana couldn't imagine that they could afford to wait much longer. "Do you want to go into town and look around?" She offered to Pello.

His expression brightened up much like it did anytime their child moved against his hand. He bent down slightly to look at it in awe, still amazed their child was growing to be so strong and healthy already. He gently moved his fingers back as if to play a little bit with the child, his smile settling into a content grin as he hummed a bit in response to her comment about the deadline.
"Oh, a crib?" He wished he could have helped build one, but many of the healers and matrons they crossed paths with encournged a professional do such work. Safety and all that.
"Sure, maybe grab some food to bring back?"

Etana could feel the rumbling in her squished stomach and she sighed at the idea of food. "Yes. Little one is requesting lunch." She held out a hand for Pello to hold and let him lead the way back through the path they had come from.
Over the past year they had cleared the way and made a proper walkway through the underbrush, clearing out the small plants and rocks that had made it haphazard before and instead lining it with smooth stones and sand. It made it all the more quaint and homey.
"Do you think we could go to that one vendor?" She asked Pello sheepishly. She felt terrible that she always asked to go to this one place. All the food in Matori and she just craved the meatballs and bread from a little food cart halfway across town.

It still took a little bit of time to get to the village nearby, and Pello wondered if in the future they might see a few more homes sprout up near their own. For now, the peace and quiet was nice, though he worried if Etana would soon grow annoyed with the distance. At least they were close to the water for soaking, which was sentimental and a reminder of home.
"Of course." He replied easily, before adding, "Whatever little one wants, they will get." His fingers itched to brush against her stomach once more, but instead they settled on gently resting on her lower back to support her if needed.

It took them a bit of time and a lot of walking before Etana hummed out a happy sigh with the meatballs in the little half-moon bread in her hands. The baby pushed downward and bounced back into place and Etana rested a hand on her belly as if asking it to calm down. "Do you think they'll like it once they're out and about?" She asked Pello, gesturing to the food she held in her other hand. "I would think with how much I want it, they would take a liking to it as well." She laughed.

He too was content on their little walk, happy with how everything was going about. As they approached the little settlement, the smell of the food wafting into the air the closer they got to the market, he considered her question.
"Meatballs in bread that you can carry around? What kid wouldn't like such a treat? We might need to figure out a way to keep them away from it with how much they seem to crave it...our little meatball fiend."

They walked around the market, enjoying their lunches as they talked and browsed the other open air stalls. "Do you think there might be somewhere where there are premade cribs? Or would that be a special order item every time?" Etana asked Pello.
She had never looked for baby items before, and definitely didn't really pay attention to such things in their shopping before it was relevant. Her experience with small babies was limited, she was the youngest of her own family.
"Maybe we just look for a carpenter?" She asked Pello.

Pello considered her question. He knew this was a small town, so the odds of something premade were slim. It wasn't like there was a gaggle of younglings running around every year. He shook his head once in response to her question.
"I think it might need to be special order, but they probably make it quick...hopefully." He said the last part slowly, before perking up, "Yeah! I think they are down that way?" He pointed toward where the smiths huts were located.

Etana nodded her head as Pello spoke. He seemed to know just as little as she did. Guess they hadn't really given baby life much thought up until this point. Now it was just becoming more real.
She followed Pello's finger toward where she could see the various huts and some smoke in certain ones. She assumed those were the metal smiths. "It'll be nice to have something custom anyways. Something just for our family that no one else will have." Though here in Tendaji there will be plenty that will make their family feel like they're standing out among the crowd.
She let Pello lead the way, offering her hand again to hold while they continued their pursuit of completing their nursery.

As they found the carpenter, they spent the next 30 minutes discussing the specifics. Pello offered information on their home, but allowed Etana to take the lead on her preferences. He may have added a thing or too, but mostly he flitted around to look at the other woodworkings before being dragged back into the conversation when asked to contribute.
As they wrapped up the conversation, the carpenter recommended they return in about a week. It was still resonable timing, so he was content with the final result.
Standing outside and stretching his arms up high, he turned back to his partner with a smile, "Ready to head back? We could pick up some fresh fish along the way for dinner?"
