Pello let out another lurch mixed with a burp as the wooden ship crested across another wave. Never had he felt such turmoil from the great sea. Even on land, it wasn't as unfamiliar as this type of action, and as a result he felt himself getting sick anytime he took a break on the ship.
Thank goodness they had devised a way for the Kahikinans to float along a ship when the waters were fare. Unfortunately, the waves meant they couldn't safely swim so on deck they went.
Spinning around, the red Hapuna slid to the ground and rested his head back to look up to the sky.
"At least the view is beautiful up here..." He murmured as he wondered where Etana had gone off to, and if she was faring any better than he.

Etana had been spending her time watching the earthlings and how they managed their ship. It was such a strange thing. She had never seen an earthling before and now she felt like she was surrounded by them. They weren’t the only kahikinans on the journey to Tendaji, but they were quite outnumbered.
These land dwellers were strange. But they knew their way around a ship in a sense that Etana would never understand. The weather hadn’t been kind to them and the ship pitched and rocked with the swelling of the waves. It didn’t seem to bother Etana as much as it did Pello and as she emerged out on deck she found him sitting on the ground looking absolutely green.
”Are you alright?” She asked him. He very obviously wasn’t as far as she could see.

Well that solved the question that crossed his mind. Lifting his arm weakly, he waved at Etana as he tried to keep his senses. Hopefully he wouldn't look too much of a fool in front of her, and it did seem his stomach was behaving slightly better. He didn't want to embarrass himself if he could help it.
Grinning, he looked at her with a half smile as his head rested against the wood.
"Did you know that they say sailors have developed sea legs? I don't really understand what they mean, their legs look just the same as any other Earthlings...they don't even have finned toes..."

She closed the gap between them and stooped over with a puzzled look on her face as Pello explained the idea of sea legs to her. ”Well that’s just ridiculous. They obviously don’t have any sort of legs suited for the ocean.” She furrowed her brow and cocked her head to the side. ”These earthlings are so strange.”
She took a seat next to Pello and stetched her legs along the deck. ”How long was this ship supposed to take until it docks?” She hoped that it wouldn’t be much longer for Pello’s sake. She didn’t feel quite right to her stomach, but nothing close to what Pello had to be feeling. ”I can get you something for your stomach if you want.” She offered. There was food below deck, but she didn’t know if that would help or hurt her friend.

"I know!" He exclaimed while raising his hands, as if in exasperation. The ship rocked them back and forth gently, but Pello found himself able to better hold his stomach if he didn't look out at the waves. He also began to apply some pressure on his wrist. A sailor recommended that it might help, seemed like he was used to stick travelers coming across the sea.
"I'm not sure..." He said forlornly, "Hopefully they can let us back into the water once things calm down..."
He then leaned over and rested his head on her shoulder, letting out a deep breath and grumbling, "I'm not very hungry at the moment, but thank you....how are you feeling?"

[ Etana 3 ]
Etana saw him holding his wrist and couldn’t help but look puzzled. She left it alone for now though, if he felt like it was helping him then why bother him about it?
She put a hand on his arm when he leaned against her and tried to offer a comforting touch. “I’m actually pretty alright. Not exactly enjoying the ride, but not too terrible either.” Not like Pello. She didn’t want to say the last part outloud but she felt a little awful that he was having such a hard time with it. ”I think the waves should break soon and we’ll be able to stretch our ‘sea legs’.“ She tried to joke with Pello and be optimistic.

Pello wiggled a bit as he settled into the weight and pressure of Etana, once again grateful of her joining him on this extended journey. He adored the girl, loved her even, and was so happy she was part of his life. At her comment, he let out a strained laugh for a moment, not as full as normal but he was trying.
"Don't worry, I'm happy to shoulder this burden for both of us." He replied lightly with a shrug, before looking up at her with a smile, "With jokes like those, one might think I'm rubbing off on you.

Etana laughed out at Pello’s comment. Maybe he was right, maybe Pello and living with the Hapuna was rubbing off on Etana. Jokes weren’t normally her style, but with Pello things felt easier and lighter. He seemed to always be in a good mood, even now he was smiling while sick.
She felt herself staring at Pello, taking in everything about him. He had been her friend since early childhood, they had been together through thick and thin, and living with him was an important step in her becoming who she was and maturing as a person. He had grown in that time too. He wasn’t a little boy anymore.
She broke her gaze and settled her head back onto Pello’s hair. “Well, while we wait for the sea to calm, did you want to plan where we go from here? After the ship docks?”

He closed his eyes and breathed slowly through his nose, taking in the rocking of the ship and trying not to let it get to him yet again. It helped he had something to focus on, the presence of his friend a reassurance as always.
"I don't know much about Tendaji...so we'd probably need to find a guide or some sort of tool...I'd also like to find out if there's some sort of adventure guild. Something to give us an idea of what's out there. But I'd mostly just like to explore..."
He laughed a bit at how uncertain he sounded, before he opened his eyes and looked up to his friend, "What are you hoping to do in Tendaji?"

Etana nodded her head slowly listening to Pello talk about plans. It helped her too to focus on what it was they were going to be doing. She might not have had the sea sickness that Pello was feeling but she did have the jitters of being in someplace completely foreign.
"I think a guide would be very helpful. Someone from Tendaji so they know where they're going. I think that would be an interesting addition to our travels," Etana thought out loud to Pello. She wondered what they kind of person would be like. There were plenty of Tendajians on the ship they were on, but they had mostly kept to themselves, she wasn't friends with anyone on board.
"I think I just want to also explore, just see what's out there. I want to see the differences in people. Kahikinan are so bright and colorful, are all the people of Tendaji so muted and dull?" She asked her rhetorical question out loud.

[ Pello 6 ] It sounded like she was keen to have some sort of traveling party, and for the social butterfly that was Pello, he was inclined to agree. Both the knowledge of the road they traveled and just to have another person there to help add to the whole experience of the adventure. "You're absolutely right." He parroted, his eyes still closed and comfortable in this place before he considered her next comment. Opening his eyes a tad, he looked out with squinted eyes around the deck, which was mostly filled with Yaeli and Kahikinans. There were a few others, but even they had dark brown skin, not unlike the Menehune. "I mean...we could ask?" He offered with a shrug.

Etana waved her hands and shook her head, thinking of what would happen if they were to ask a question so blatantly. "No, I think they would think it was rude." She whispered to Pello, hoping they hadn't been talking loud enough for anyone to hear. "Who knows what would be an insult, right?" She imagined calling someone from Haukea dull looking and couldn't imagine them taking it in a positive way.
"I think I would rather just see for myself." She put an hand resting on Pello, trying to be a comforting friend. "So which dock is this ship taking us to again?" She asked Pello. From what she had learned there were... three Tendaji docks from Kahikina. She wasn't familiar with their names yet, she would have a lot of learning to do on their travels.

His only response with a cheeky grin, "Some people are too serious...especially these Yaeli. I don't think they'd do too well in the reefs..." He whispered as he leaned in.
As the thoughts shifted, Pello finally moved to attempt to stand, moving to take the hand she rested on him in an offer to help her stand as well.
"I think it's called Matori?" He replied, "The captain told me it would be very similar to home."

[Etana 7]
Pello helped Etana to her feet and with a scuffle of her heels she steadied herself on the swaying deck. The yaeli were too serious. "Though they might find themselves at home more with the moakai, don't you think?" She joked to Pello.
"Matori... I just don't see how anything in Tendaji will be similar to home, but we'll see." Etana had major doubts about Tendaji. The people were altogether too foreign. But... if it was as similar to home as Tendaji could get, at least it would be a step into the unknown rather than a leap. The thought put a smile on her face though. They might look back at this trip overseas some day and laugh at all of the misconceptions they had, or over what they had been incredibly right about.

He turned to her at the comment, eyebrows raised at the jest, before whistling slowly, "Thank goodness we got you out of there before it was too late."
Leaning back and letting the salty air blow through his short hair, Pello let out another sigh. It wasn't really that bad, all things considered, even if the occasional sway of the boat made his stomach drop. He then looked back to her for a moment.
"Home...where would you want to go back to once our trip is over?"
