Mid-Season Harvest Festivals
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Prompt With so many inhabitants of Tendaji still working the lands, it's common that a festival or party is held to celebrate the transition to a new season. With summer in swing, it's about time to celebrate again. This transition goes from cultivating the land to full-harvest, so many hold celebrations to thank the gods for rain, earth, and successful growth of their plants.
Be it on Tendaji where the Earthlings celebrate thanks for their crops and land, or the Aishans thank their great mothers for prosperous hunts, or even Kahikinan where they celebrate a transition from the heavy rain season, all of Tendaji has reason to gather during the summer months.
[ For this prompt, find someone to celebrate a the change of a season wherever your character is. If your character is alone, now is a great time to consider the transition of the season versus the transition of your life. ]

The waters only seemed to get warmer and warmer as the months passed but this was what Etana had signed up for. It was already the middle of summer in the reefs and she had been with Pello since earlier in the spring.
Pello had mentioned something to her about coral, and while she couldn't pretend to know what he was talking about, she was excited nonetheless. "Can you explain to me one more time what we're doing here?" She prodded Pello. He had already told her once, but it was still fuzzy. It was hard to think when it was this hot.

The lanky teen was excited, but he was always excited. This time of year really excited him because of the festivals and the growth of their coral home. It was beautiful to witness and whenever he missed it due to trips, he tended to notice his mood dropping for weeks on end. To be here this year, and to be able to show Etana, was something he just couldn't contain. His signature smile was bright in the sunlit waters as he turned to his childhood friend.
"We're celebrating." He teased playfully, before moving toward one of the coral homes near them. He gestured to the living, breathing creatures without touching them, his amber eyes looking closely, "It's nearly time for the coral to bloom...which is a big deal not only because of how it changes the waters, but what it means. Every year the coral blooms and spreads, growing our lands more and more. It's a sign of good health and prosperity, and a reason to celebrate!"

Etana eyed the rocky looking things Pello was pointing to with a fair amount of disbelief. They were alive? They just looked like porous rock to her. But she wasn't about to correct Pello when he had lived here all his life.
"So... you throw a big party? It's not like we're gonna see them grow, right?" It's not like it would suddenly sprout a foot overnight and they would be watching like it was some kind of race. So the whole thing was basically symbolic, Etana decided.
"And that's today then?" She reaffirmed. She was happy to let Pello lead the way, since she was basically a fish out of water here.

"We wont see them grow...they grow slowly every year. But the water will get really cloudy with all sorts of colors, and that's them moving around looking for a place to settle. It's like the stars, and it's pretty cool. Wouldn't recommend swimming in it though, it's hard to know where you're going if it's really dense..."
Pausing, he added, "And this celebration goes on for weeks, but there is a peak period...we usually spend time atop the reefs or on the beach."

Etana shook her head as Pello finished speaking. What a weird way of living the hapuna had. They all liked to lay around and sunbathe and it was just beyond Etana and her upbringing of darkness and sickly glowing. There was almost always something for them to be doing in Ka'lei, so this life of leisure that she had fallen into was... an adjustment.
"Ok, so... when does the fun start then?" She gave Pello a grin and grabbed his hand. "If we're going to be celebrating why wait any longer, right?" She teased.

Pello knew that Etana was challenged by many of their cultures, just as he was with her own. But her excitable energy made up for it, as she always seemed up to change. Unlike her sister. The limited contact he had with Bane made him certain that the Moakai would never leave the darkness she loved to lurk in.
He was happy to see Etana fall into their world.
"Sure." He said, squeezing her hand in return, "It's hard to miss once we get above the waves..."
He tugged her up toward the top of the reef home they were near. No one seemed to mind during this time of year when everyone would dance across the reefs and celebrate for hours on end.

Etana let Pello lead the way, letting him tug her further up and toward the surface. As they came closer to the reef home Pello was aiming for she took a quick look around. Other hapuna seemed to be doing the same, heading toward shallow water and lifting themselves out onto the roofs of the homes around them.
When they too had broken through to the surface she could see that they definitely weren't the first to start celebrating the coral growth like Pello had been talking about. "Wow there are a lot of people up here." she commented to Pello. It was quite the crowd and all of the bright colors were definitely something to take in. If anything Etana could see that the hapuna definitely resembled the colorful coral that they were celebrating.

Music filled the air above the waves, coming and going like water above the land. Hapuna laughed and danced, showing a lot more energy than normal considering they were mostly sunbathers. But here, they had reason to celebrate and they moved around like they were reborn. Pello felt his cheeks begin to ache, he was smiling so much at the sight of his people, his heart warm as he let go of Etana's hand to push himself up and twist to sit on the shelled house.
He held out his hand again to help her up.
"Might be the last time you see this many Hapuna unless you come again another year. Come on, let's celebrate!"

Etana could hear the sounds of the music filling the air, and she swayed her head gently to the beat. She had heard hapuna music before, but the tune they were playing was more festive, and that was something to say since normal hapuna music was already airy and uplifting. Moakai music was angry by comparison, maybe brooding was the better word for it.
She grabbed Pello's hand and let him help pull her up out of the water and onto the roof. "It's most definitely the most I've ever seen." She agreed with a nod of her head. She was going to let Pello lead the way on this, but she could feel the excitement in the air and it was putting a smile on her own face.

The waves brushed up against the sides of the homes. Here in the middle of the reefs there was more shell-based housing, but if you got to the edge you'd see most of the reef life and the true reason for the festival. It was why the groups gathered closer to the cresting waves, where the sun illuminated the water that looks dusty.
As they walked over, he moved through the colorful groups of Hapuna, nodding to the few he recognized and staying out of the way of the other, more boisterious creatures.
In the distance, he even saw a curious land walker watching from the beach, a few Hapuna trying to drag them in to join as well.
"Well, what do you think?" He asked as they got to where the waves came in, the slushy break of them causing the air to feel misty and cool.

The ocean spray filled the air with the feeling of salt and and the drops splashed onto Etana's face as they neared the edges of the waves. It felt nice on her skin and combined with the sun she was feeling very tranquil. "It looks so pretty." she responded to Pello.
She could see the blues and turquoises of the ocean and the water was so clear she could see straight out toward where the living coral was. The warped perspective from the water's surface only added to the feeling of it being a dream. "How long is everyone out here?" She asked Pello. They couldn't stay out that long, but she knew that the festival lasted days at least.

Pello held back and watched Etana, watched her reactions. The glow of the sun on her dark skin, the spray of the water distorting it and creating even more of a glow. Her green eyes seemed to lighten to an even mossier glow in the light, and her magenta scales and hair stood out even more. But it was the look on her face, the tranquility of it all, that really caught him off guard.
He almost forgot to respond when she turned to look at him.
"Some...for weeks?" He finally answered, shaking head head, "Most stay until things settle down, and then they are off to another celebration. But this type of crowd...probably a week."

Etana looked back at Pello when he didn't answer right away. He had a look on her face that was hard for her to read, but she gave him a smile and tried to tease him lightly. "You hapuna would stay around sunbathing for a week."
She sat on the edge of the roof and dangled her legs in the water, the hapuna around her making her stick out like a sore thumb. "I definitely don't mind the change of pace. It's nice to just relax and enjoy the party sometimes." She grinned to her friend. She wasn't used to it, but it didn't mean she couldn't appreciate it.
She felt like they had been out there for a while already and the sun was starting to move down on the horizon. "Do you want to find something to eat?" She asked Pello, moving to grab his hand. Maybe they could find something tasty from the festival for her to try out.

He laughed at her joke, not arguing with her statement because it was true. The Hapuna were known for their relaxed nature, and even when celebrating they made it a bit of a relaxed and drawn out experience.
"Hungry? I'm sure we've got some things cooking on the beach. Usually we eat things raw, but it seems many Hapuna are enjoying the qualities the land walkers have bought over. Grilling is quite the pass time and I'm sure you'll love it!" Taking her hand, he grinned and led the way back toward the beach, the sun drifting lower and the festivities still going strong as they most likely would the rest of the evening.
Pello was glad Etana decided to come visit, glad she could participate in experiences like this. He really appreciated the extra time he had with his childhood friend.
