It had been a few weeks since their grand adventure in the depths of the cove, and Pello couldn't stop looking at the little trinkets and treats he got as a prize. It was worth so much more than the gold payment, the delight he got from brushing his fingers over the little marked stones, the golden statue, and the beautiful bottles. When asked if he wanted to sell them, he immediately shook his head. These were his trophies of a job well done, and a reminder of the feeling he got on his very first trip.
The little rings, the special items, everything was a wonderful new world, and Pello continued to be so grateful he was with Etana.
Together, they faced the strange lands around them, and together they came out on top. He knew in the future they would explore more of Tendaji, but now more than ever he felt a desire to set up a base...a small space for them to return to between the mainland and their island.
So, he used the gold reward to purchase a plot of land near the coast, seemingly uninhabitable but perfect for a wayward set of Kahikinans. He was excited to show Etana, and so he led her down the path through the groves of Matori to the small cove beach, where their future home would be nestled away from prying eyes. It was perfect, well...except for the lack of house. But that was a problem they could tackle together.

Etana followed behind Pello, her mind already running away from her. Pello had been acting secretive lately, and a touch jumpy. He swatted away her prying, something about it being a surprise. A surprise what? She couldn't imagine what there could be for her to be more surprised about after they had started exploring Tendaji.
She let her hands graze over the tops of the shrubs and leaves of the low plants along the uneven path and called to Pello in front of her. "Did you find another place to treasure hunt?" She joked. They had been accomplishing quite a bit after landing in Matori. They had felt the real high of treasure hunting after they had come back from the shipwreck in the bay, Etana still felt the buzz of a good time from it.

"I wish!" He called out behind him, his voice a bit remourseful at the thought. Ever since the first hunt, he always itched for treasure, often looking in the smallest places and still excited at every discovery. He took touched the grasses as they made way down the path, one he had forged himself through his passing and purchasing of the land.
After another few minutes of walking, he suddenly paused and took a deep breath before turning and looking at her with a nervous but excited look. Taking a deep breath, he stepped closer to grab her hands in his own.
"I'm sorry for keeping this a secret, but I'm ready to show you the surprise now. I think you'll love it- well I hope you will."

Etana would have run into Pello if she hadn't been paying more attention with the way he abruptly stopped. She turned her head back and forth, trying to see what the surprise would be in this specific location. It looked nondescript. Just forest, coast, waves. It was rather secluded from the towns.
When he grabbed her hands in his, Etana stopped her analyzing and furrowed her brows together. "I'm sure I will. I can't wait to see what it is." She answered back to him, not too sure where the surprise would be kept.

He smiled again, before dropping her hands and stepping back. Raising his arms wide, he seemed to gesture to the space around him. Which to someone who was unfamiliar of the space, would look like an overgrown brushland near the cape of Matori. Normal, regular, the same as many other areas. In fact, it was a bit overrun and clearly could use a little TLC.
"Well, what do you think?"

Etana watched his arms spread wide and she couldn't help but look from one of his hands to the other, trying to figure out what he was trying to show her. The synapses slowly started firing and connecting the dots and Etana's face went from deep speculation and confusion to shocked disbelief.
"Is this... did you get this for us? This land?" She had to specify because she couldn't quite comprehend the magnitude of the purchase. Did Pello buy them... a home?

Her silence and confusion caused his own smile to droop, and he lowered his hands lightly as his brain retraced what he just said. Realizing he forgot a step, he was about to speak up when Etana filled the silence with her own determination. It didn't prevent his cheeks from darkening slightly at the misstep.
"Yes, Yes!" He eagerly moved close again, sliding to her side and moving close as he wrapped his arm around her waist with a giddy smile, "I used my part if the payout from the last few adventures...it wasn't enough to get a home built, but I was able to get some quiet land...it's not like we need much, and I mean maybe it's just a start...but it's ours, Etana. It's ours."

Etana let the arms find their place around her waist before she sounded a slight sigh. "I could have helped you. You didn't have to use all of your share." She leaned into him and closed her eyes, imagining the house that could be built here.
"It's wonderful." She smiled. She wouldn't ruin the moment by pulling the weight of the gift down. "Can you picture it?" She asked him, her smile on her face already apparent.

"There's still so much to do, trust me." He replied simply as he placed a soft kiss on her temple, "I've tried to picture it a million different ways. From all the houses we've seen and those we haven't. But I'd rather hear how you picture it. This is your first time seeing it, after all."
He wanted to hear her thoughts on the potential, especially with it being so fresh. He walked the lot hundreds of times, or so it felt, but she was seeing it fresh and surely saw something he might have missed.

Etana looked out over the plot of land that would be theirs. The low lying brush near the sand and the peaceful waters lapping into and out of the little inlet. The shore was rocky, probably why it wasn't built into anyone's home yet, but that didn't need to stop them.
"I can see a small house here, nothing too big, we don't need a lot. We can have large windows facing the water. With a porch. That would be nice." She tried to gesture out what she was imagining, but didn't know if she was doing it justice.
She let her arms linger out for a few moments, her brain just kind of stalling on the idea of a home. Would there be more than a home? It was something she hadn't really thought about in their travels overseas, but some day would she want... more? "Pello...?" She started, not really knowing how to find the words.

He hummed contently, closing his eyes a moment and picturing it, "I can see it. Maybe a path to the water. We could build something in the water like the reefs...so a little bit like home." He added, nodding, "Not that we can't return home...I just figured having a place here would be nice since we have a lot of exploring planned."
He figured they could always return to their siblings and parents, always have a place there, but this was their own thing. Their own home.
Turning to look at her fully, he nodded, waiting for her to continue.

She listened to his reasoning and she was starting to put together a picture. Traveling, check ins, maybe even a home of their own in Haukea. The more Etana thought about it, the more she liked the idea of multiple homes, different lives to live in different places. There was one constant in the picture, Pello would be with her.
She got up the wind to finally say what she had been thinking, though she wasn't sure what Pello would think. "Do you... see more for us? Do we... make more for ourselves?" She was vague, but how do you come outright and bring up a family when they're already on the road? They hadn't talked about when to settle down, but Etana was thinking - and it was a sudden thought - what if they continued to travel... but brought additions with them?

Pello pursed his lips at the question, taking only but a second to reply.
"Of course. This is only a small part of the big picture. Of our life together." He replied simply enough.
"A little hideaway. But we can do anything together, I know it. We're unstoppable."
He tilted his head to the side.
"We can take on as many jobs as we need to." Whatever she wanted, he would make it happen. He swore to it.

She looked at his expression, trying to see if there was any notion that he would feel similarly to herself. She couldn't tell, it was hard to read Pello sometimes, he just seemed so laid back and... well generally happy at almost all points in time.
"I guess what I mean to say is, would you want to add more to our family?" She offered as clarification. Would Pello want to have babies with the life they had chosen for themselves?

He tilted his head a moment before moving closer with a sly smile, "Add to our family?" He asked slowly, his grin almost playfully seductive.
"My darling Etana, I would love nothing more than to give you the world. If you want this home to be a place filled with our family, I'll make it so. I love you. I love everything you do."
He took her hands in his as his soft smile returned, "I know we'd have to settle when they are young, but I'm willing to take care of them too if we decide to travel. Home is where we are together, after all."
He was getting sappy, but it was rare she expressed such things and it made him giddy.
