Name: Talisia

Stage: Beast Master (4)
Race: Ice/Shifter
Status: w/ Eresin
3 Base Traits: Independent, Adaptable, Gentle

Personality: Talisia tends to be a very calm person with an older air about her. As mature as she may seem her neutral expression often confuses anyone about what emotions are really beneath the surface. Because of an abusive mother and because she lost her loving father when she was young the girl has a hard time giving anyone her trust. Mostly that is because while she hopes to find love and light in her life again she's still afraid that any future happiness will slip away from her. This is why she is so stubborn about staying as independent as possible and often refuses help even when she may truly need it.

Being alone for so long though has allowed her to become adaptable and capable of taking on her own tasks with a sharp wit. Not only can she make things out of the smallest situations the girl can also flip her personality around to blend in with the others that are around her. She can easily work her way through both a flood of events and a flood of people. Her mask that she learned to wear from her earlier years also has played a great role in helping her to make necessary connections.

That mask though comes with pros and cons. Those who have seen her wear it become wary of her reliability and true feelings as well. Who is she truly and what does she really care about if she can change herself so easily? Once more what they thought they knew about her was lost again to mystery.

Truthfully though her heart is still very gentle as her father's love has forever left an impression on her. Her spirit is kind and loving as seen in the animals that she attracts. Talisia would stop in the middle of a road even for the smallest of creatures if they seem like they are injured and need her help. While earthlings have a harder time getting through the icy facade to the gentle, nurturing nature beneath, any little creature can quickly be loved by her. Having a family has only increased that as her heart has warmed towards others again, especially since establishing the animal sanctuary where she currently lives along the border of Zena.

Currently: Talisia has grown over the years, even fighting Extremists and watching as they were exiled across to Yael before the world found more turmoil with the Dretch and the appearance of Belrea then Kahi later shaking the rest of what everyone knew. Still, once Talisia reunited with her twins and the war with the Extremists ended the hybrid wrapped up her adventures in Jahaur and came back to Zena to reclaim her family lands and turned it into an animal sanctuary. She married her dear friend Eresin and had a pair of children together, raising them in the home that she had made for herself in the place she thought she would never return.

It helps that she knows she has support now instead of feeling as along as before with others to rely open now as seen with Kian, Zyphire, Dris, Callum, and Eresin.

Description: Talisia is a slender woman with curves that stands about 5'4". Her grace is like that of a creature and she seems to have a more wild way about her when she walks from spending so much time on the road. Her pale hair is always wavy and only a few braids keep it tame. Other than that she seems like she could be a normal ice earthling until one notices the silver shifter eye that changes in hue with the day.

Accessories: Besides the typical chokers and earrings that she wears Talisia has one piece of jewelry which is super important to her. This piece is the pendant necklace that she wears which was a gift from her father who taught her to adore the moon and sun. Her twin brother wears a similar pendant around his own neck.

Interesting Tidbits! -While she seems distant to some with her high personality as soon as any animal comes near she's kind and gentle.
-Her silver eye actually changes like any other shifter's while the golden one stays the same hue always.
-She feels more alive under the moonlight than the sunlight and prefers night strolls and so if you see her up in the early hours of the morning it is not because she is a morning person but rather because she just hasn't slept yet.
-She has a slight habit of barely closing her hands to tap her fingers against each other or her palms when she's impatient or irritated.
- Her name "Talisia" (meaning from the forest) comes from the fact that her father missed his home forest so much.

History
Short version:

A pair of twins were born between a shifter performer and a lady of ice.

Their birth was unnatural as their father was never supposed to belong to their mother Nivedita, but rather was stolen away from his shifter fiance. His health was not meant to survive the cold of Zena so when he died he left Talisia alone in the world as her mother had been jealous of her and despised her .

This lead to many rifts and as the twins grew the fits of insanity by their mother, who was plagued with the grief of Kaleo's death, only got worse. Talisia suffered the most, but her brother's support in letting her heal animals to fill in the void helped to save her. Her mother though found out about Talisia's past time and in a fit of insanity tried to destroy everything once more.

Her twin brother saved her life, but Talisia found herself tossed out into the cold with no home. Since then she traveled with Silva, her raptrix companion, and has been learning more about the world and surviving on her own.

The story~

Born into the icy lands as a hybrid between a cold lady and a gypsy shifter Talisia didn’t know much about her father’s history. All she knew was that her father was a loving figure who doted on her and gave her more love than anyone else she would ever know growing up. His real story, however, was not lost in the dark corridors of the cold home she was raised in. Talisia and her twin were abnormal children, both with their mismatched eyes and changing skin tones. Those few who knew the truth about her said it was only fair that both children bore marks of nature’s curse since their existence was a manipulation in itself.

How was it a manipulation some may ask?

Kaleo first came to Zena while traveling with a group of friends who had wished to share their skills and wares in the region. A gypsy himself it was hard for the young male to refuse his friend's requests to go on an adventure. His gentle nature and kind heart as well made declining his friend’s request a near impossible chore. The trip was supposed to be a short trip as well because waiting back home was his newly betrothed. While joining a clan of weapon smiths and earning a beautiful bride didn’t sound like such a hard bargain for most it was feared by Kaleo. Because he feared he would lose himself in marriage and in his new trade the gypsy wanted to leave out one last time before his feet were stuck in the ground.

That decision would lead him into a life changing trap.

Leaving his home behind Kaleo found that Zena was indeed a harsh world. So used to the heat and humid of the rain forests the shifter found the ice to cut into his very spirit. Yet a part of him was mystified and found that the wintery lands held their own beauty. It was gorgeous to see the moon and sun’s reflection on the ice and to watch how each moment gave him a sparkling image in both lights. The party’s trading ended up near an important home where a council member lived.

Nivedita was her name. A young lady full of promise and high power came dancing into his life one night. Without knowing his own dangerous charm Kaleo found himself enticing the woman closer and closer into his life. His eyes showed her the stars and the world and for someone who lived in an icy palace she found a fire in his spirit never seen before. The way he moved and the way he could sing moved her heart which she had once believed was frozen in place.

She had to have him.

One night of special herbs and tipsy mistakes lead him into her bed. It was that night that the snake first got her coils around the bird. His wings were to quickly become tied in her grasp and she made certain that they were to become clipped. Nivedita poisoned his mind with lies and illusions leading others to believe in his death when they searched for him and leaving him with only foggy memories of anything save for her. He would become her treasured “pet” and anyone that tried to separate him from her would be stopped.

Less than a year after the first night together a pair of twins were born.

Talisia and her brother Ciarán were raised never knowing how their lives came to be in this world. They were just twins different in appearance save for the identical stare of their mismatched eyes. While her brother was kept close to her mother’s side Talisia was raised with the love of her father. Everything he could remember he would teach her and every ounce of love he had for the world around them he would instill inside of her as well.

Her mother though was a woman easily brought to jealousy. Countless nights Talisia would sit outside without food for being too “emotional” and too attached to Kaleo. Nivedita called it training for Talisia to uphold the family’s name. No emotion was to slip through as that would only lead to mistakes in your life and having her father coddle her would only serve to make her weak.

It wasn’t Talisia who was weak though in the icy lands.

Kaleo was growing weaker. His body was conditioned for the freedom of traveling and for the warmer climates so the longer he was caged into the cold the more he found it harder to breath. Only his daughter’s loving smile and his son’s occasional melody would keep him there. It was their birth which had kept Nivedita’s hold on him after all and so the lady constantly would use the children to tie down poor Kaleo. Her selfishness and jealousy kept her paranoid about the shifter male as well. Even if he was sick what if she let him leave and he never returned? Surely she couldn’t have that. He would be fine because he was hers and she refused to let him die.

Talisia was too young to realize that the coughing fits her father had were growing worse and that his skin was getting unnaturally paler. His song as well was getting weak and she found that he didn’t run to play with her as much anymore. Over time though she found that her father was slipping away from her. It was the darkest night of her life when she realized that she couldn’t run into his arms anymore. There was no more light in her life and the halls were cold and quiet.

Mournfully both twins moved on with their lives as once more Nivedita found herself frozen. Lost in the guilt of losing Kaleo she found herself slipping away in random fits of insanity that would scare both children. Talisia was scorned and hated for being the one to take him away from Nivedita while her twin brother who resembled Kaleo was kept even closer to her side.

Talisia found herself lost. Without her father there wasn’t much light to be had in the world. Darkness kept slipping into play around her own heart and the girl constantly wondered if she faded into the icy lands would her spirit find her father’s as well? Once she tried, but her brother’s quick reaction kept her from diving into her own death.

Not having time to take care of his sister Ciarán found others to do so. These others weren’t earthlings, however, and instead consisted of small animals he gifted to her. Surely healing injured animals would help keep her heart focused on living rather than death. In a way his plan worked and she found herself sneaking away from their mother to care for wild animals and tame alike. In those animals she poured the love that she had felt from her father and in turn they loved her back as her mother never would.

Years began to pass and Talisia found herself slipping into the routine of strict training by day and peaceful healing by night. Her animals were a secret from her mother and her happiness was hidden well. Out of all animals though a raptrix came into her life one day and the wild creature quickly came into Talisia's heart. It was hard at first taming a wild beast who thrashed in pain due to an injured leg, but once the healing process started both began to truly bond. Silva, she named him due to his silver pelt, became her friend who actually could start healing the void left by her father.

Of course not everything could remain so and it was in a fit of rage by her mother that Talisia found everything she had loved lost once more. Nivedita had found Silva and discovered that her daughter's past time was healing animals. Angered that her daughter had some peace in her life and was 'wasting' her time with dirty creatures Nivedita struck out against them. Talisia could not stand by and watch as her mother tried to harm those she had healed. Her intervention redirected her mother's rage at the animals towards her instead. Only her brother’s protests kept her crazed mother from killing her. Forbidden to ever come back the girl was tossed out into the bitter winds with only the image of her brothers flickering gaze bidding her goodbye.

In a way she could see what he said in her heart. Get away find a new life and one day I will catch up to you sister. All she could do was hope and pray that he was right.

Her heart full of hope and courage she took her few belongings and clutching the sun and moon pendant gifted to her by her father the girl took off. She was only half ice after all and now was the time to find out exactly what the shifter life promised her. Maybe somewhere out there on that horizon that her father often told stories of would be her happiness.

Only time would tell.

Determination

As Talisia woke up to face the morning sun, she had been greeted with the first breeze of spring. The hint of spring was in the air, the sun's warmth melting any lingering snow from the winter and allowing the bright colors of spring to slowly appear throughout the valley where the animal sanctuary was located. The vibrant colors matched well with the evergreen forest towards the left of the sanctuary lands, the stream cutting through it circling around the outer fields where some roati and raptrix roamed together. The little creatures were protected by the family's raptrix who herded them away from the more dangerous areas and back towards the cluster of buildings that housed various animals throughout the year. Even now there were chiavi circling about the outer fields where they nested in one of the abandoned stables, the loft full of nests for little ones that had hatched just recently. Unlike other birds throughout other countries the great owls flourished in the cold and eagerly contested with the raptrix for prey, the chiavi fearing very little when fighting for survival. Thankfully even the wild ones in the area weren’t that aggressive, Talisia knowing to take care of any that wandered in and wanted to pick fights with the animals residing there. Most of those that flew across the sky she recognized, several having bonded with various family members and being trained to work with the raptrix to protect the area from the wild ones that tried to pass through the grounds. Having so many in the area did mean a constant expansion of buildings, the fields growing from just having two stables to the six that were spread out across the estate. Thankfully there were several fields with plenty of room for the animals to graze and to fly around in, even as Talisia tried her best to only take in injured ones that could never survive on their own after rehabilitation. She was far from a breeder, just taking care of those that needed her and helping the villagers with any problems their own familiars faced. The largest population they had were the roati, the little bleets constantly reminding her of the herd’s presence as they roamed between the fields, a few bold ones even darting around the few mammu in the sanctuary. They were super energetic now that spring was upon them, the roati finding whatever patch of wildflowers that they could to graze on.

And in front of all of that was her actual home. The great stone manor hadn’t changed on the outside save for the gleam of stained glass windows depicting wildlife where before it had just been darker windows that her mother preferred. Inside the home had been remodeled to fit Talisia’s family and visitors, with several guest rooms on the main floor and the library moved upstairs for Eresin’s study. The kitchen was the same as ever with the cellar attached to it full of preserved foods to last them through the colder winter months. But now with the arrival of spring it was time to start cleaning up for any visitors. At the moment Talisia was currently sweeping, the hybrid finally taking the day to clean up around the manor while things were calm with most of the family out and about. It was strange adapting to life without her children or Zyphire being constantly around, but Talisia was finding that the quiet was nice especially when Eresin was home from one of his artifact missions. Cozy nights in front of a fireplace were always welcomed, especially during the colder winter months when nature reminded them that they were still part of Zena despite not living beyond the mountains that dotted the horizon where things were harsher and frozen. Though that quiet probably would change soon considering all of those coming her way in the near future, including her own cousins’ children. Ziya wanted to train and learn more about taking care of injured animals and Talisia was more than willing to share what she knew with the young beast tamer. So he would be spending several months at the sanctuary, if not longer to learn what he could before returning north to the Ild’vann. It seemed that her quiet moments had truly left once more with so many reaching out to come visit, including her own children after years of traveling.

First Katori with Finn, the feral Yaeli almost reminding the others of any injured animal that was brought into the sanctuary. While Talisia was curious about how deep their relationship truly was, she was content to give them time to sort out their feelings especially since she had the feeling there was quite a bit to sort through for both of them. Her daughter could be quite prickly on her own, that much was true. But now that Katori was heading north again her brother had decided to finally return home. Talisia couldn't help but smile at the thought. Not only had he returned after adventuring for two years, but he had returned with a pretty foreigner! Even though it was quite obvious to the rest of the family, Talisia had hoped to wait before asking Taaru about his intentions but now that they had been here since autumn it was hard not to want to tease him. Nasrin had even taken over a nearby farmhouse, turning that and the natural springs around it into a resort of sorts. Of course it was a work in progress but everyone in the family was more than willing to help, Talisia even offering funds and guiding Nasrin towards the local village for carpenters and the like who could help rebuild the property in the image she wanted. It was still spotty though, parts needing serious repairs and so Talisia had told the pair to stay with her as long as necessary since Taaru would always have a room here. Nasrin had recently rushed out the door towards the village to go speak with a merchant, an urgent request forcing her to leave without Taaru for once, and Talisia had watched him rush in that direction as soon as he had returned. She knew that the pair was protective of one another but she truly hadn’t realized to what extent. Whatever had happened to them made her frown, worry crossing her brow. She had heard hints that something bad had nearly gotten them in serious trouble, but neither Taaru or Nasrin were quite comfortable giving the full story. Eventually she hoped that they would be able to talk about it, but she also knew how it was to be haunted by something so terrible that you could barely speak of it to others. She never talked about her own childhood, after all. Even Kian barely mentioned it though Talisia had caught sight of those scars once, the very sight making her stomach drop with despair. While others had expected a luxurious childhood for the pair of siblings who inherited such large estates, the truth was far from that and those scars served as proof. She had her own, a faded one that traced her neck under the typical chokers that she wore to ignore its existence, and that one was enough to make her never want to go back to Zena for years. If not for Eresin then she probably would have stayed in Jahaur, avoiding the past for as long as she could until learning that Kian had actually left as well. Finding him had changed so much for her, the trio exploring the northern countries together as they found their place again and loss pushed Eresin and Kian closer together than ever before. Talisia had never gotten to know Eresin’s uncle personally, but even she burned incense whenever his memorial service happened. The only other person she burned incense for was her own father, the memory of the loving shifter leaving a bittersweet feeling for both her and Kian. She had told snippets about her father to her children, avoiding the more personal details about why she had left when it was just their mother and their mother’s demise was something that Kian absolutely refused to speak about. Even Talisia wasn’t certain what had happened to cause the fire that destroyed the main estate, swallowing up everything in its path besides that little cottage where Zyphire had built his own home with the Ild’vann settling just beyond that.

And it would be to that estate that she would be traveling soon. Talisia’s fingers tightened around the broom handle at the very thought. She had told herself for years that she had to face that area eventually. It was unhealthy to just have all of these night terrors without confronting the place where it all began. Even though she had moved back into Zena she was hugging the border of the country, avoiding the capital city where her mother had flourished as a key member of its society. They had so much wealth, but the greed of her mother that trapped their poor father in Zena had eventually destroyed him and ruined any chance of happiness between their family members. If Kian hadn’t reunited with her…would they have stayed bitter towards anything that was blood related? And then poor Dris. Finding out she had a half-sister had only sealed her negative feelings towards her mother, the woman being vile enough to take a man from his fiance who had no idea about his life ever since he disappeared in Zena all those years ago. I would never burn incense for her. There was a limit to how far Talisia’s patience ran and despite having a calm appearance in the present there had been quite a fiery spirit within the hybrid who had fought for those she loved all those years ago. Even now she would fight to defend her family and friends, so why was traveling to a little area in Zena such a problem? Zyphire had always traveled north for her and even Eresin had run to the capital for trading goods or securing documents that she needed in relation to the estate before the Ild’vann moved in. While she didn’t feel the need to go to Zidel at least she could see the place where her cousins lived, right? That was the hope and it was why Talisia had finally agreed to go visit, especially once Eresin pushed for her to go there to see the place in its current state to hopefully replace the memories of what once was. She couldn’t keep running from the past, she had to face it. And so she just prayed things would work out and that she wouldn’t be a complete mess when she did go there with Zyphire in a few days to pick up Ziya and explore the area she once called home.

Realizations

While the others spent the afternoon exploring the sanctuary, Talisia took a moment to simply sit in her room and reflect on everything that had happened within the last couple of weeks. Ziya had been here for a week now and she was still adjusting to the fact that she had finally returned to the estate that haunted her nightmares for so many years. As the others had told her so many times the place truly wasn’t the same any longer as the manor had burned to the ground and the Ild’vann now flourished there. Still, seeing it for the first time had truly put things into perspective now that she had physically witnessed it for herself. But it didn’t mean the past was completely erased by the changes because even as the others finished up after lunch that day just wandering around the little cottage had brought back so many memories. Talisia could remember being a youngling chasing around after her father and twin for an afternoon while her mother had important meetings, the three of them spending a rare moment together without her shadow watching their every move. The gardener had been a nice elderly, iceling who had worked for the family for most of his life and he always showed Talisia and Kiana kindness even when most treated the hybrid children like curses especially once they noticed their bi-colored gazes. Just sitting in the garden for a moment made her think of the twisting vines that once decorated so many trellises that lined the paths around the outer fields and of the sweet berries that she had once dared to pick whenever her mother wasn’t watching over them. Then there would be violin music as their father played them a tune, the trio enjoying the warm sunlight despite the bitter winds of northern Zena. None of that had survived the fire though, even Kian had nothing to bring back with him save for the pendant that he shared with Talisia that their father had gifted them. She knew that if she walked towards the village that nothing would be the same, but just the thought of crossing the same ground as before sent a chill down her spine. A little step at a time. Right? At least now as she trained Ziya she could look at herself and realize how far she had grown since being that scared little girl. Now she was a mentor, a capable healer who could help injured animals just like she had always wanted to do even as a child, and she had converted the summer estate into an animal sanctuary where others came seeking her aid. She had found happiness and strength within herself, reunited with her twin and married her best friend while growing a family together again when before she had thought she was completely alone in the world. Truly, things were different and she was strong enough to endure the memories as bad as some could be. Talisia smiled at the thought as she looked over the display of journals tucked into a shelf near the window that overlooked the back fields of the sanctuary. All of those journals had been written by her about various species of animals and treatments that she had learned about since starting the sanctuary. Each journal had been categorized into regions, most animals thriving the best in their home areas though others could survive with proper care as long as they weren’t taken too young. The shock of a new climate could harm so many, Talisia had tended to a few in Zena before urging their owners back into warmer areas to better suit their familiars. A sturdy mount that a traveler had was one thing, but a chick or even an egg? One would be foolish to try to take an egg and hatch it away from the mother, but as much as Talisia hated the thought she knew that some tried with very little success. She had done so once but that was because poachers left her little choice and so Yukiyo had been born, the kinfa rarely leaving her side since that moment even when Talisia tried to get her to return to Tale where she belonged. As a result, Yukiyo never had a clutch of her own because of the kinfa’s decision to stay with Talisia in Zena. Talisia believed that baby animals were far too delicate to just toss around the world at a whim, some could get easily sick and so she refused to even try with the kinfa. Why take the risk? She already dealt with so many sick animals over the years, not just injured beasts. Such illnesses were recorded in another journal where she had listed medical remedies for common illnesses amongst animals, Talisia having picked up quite a few medical tips since starting the sanctuary. She had even treated a few snaptrotters and a janarim when visiting Matori and later when traveling through Oba to see Dris, the hybrid taking notes back then to start her journals. From one little parchment of scribbles to a full shelf of journals and drawings to show her experience…talk about a busy life. The very thought brought a chuckle to her lips as she finally shifted so that she could stand from the bed and stretch, preparing herself for the afternoon. As tempting as a nap could be, the hybrid knew that she had little time for such luxuries, not when they had so many guests on the grounds and she was curious to see exactly what trouble her younger cousins would get into today. The fire stone brought some concern but she had promised one more day, hoping that Silfi would do the right thing on her own before Yngvara left. At least it was tucked safely away in a fireproof box to avoid any issues. It was nice knowing that the teen had trusted Talisia to see the runestone, so there was that despite her concern. She just wished that Kian and Eresin were home so that they could give better insight since magical items were their speciality. Just a few more days. And then she could give them both a tongue lashing for being gone for so long once again. She knew that she could have gone with them, but she felt that her place was here at the animal sanctuary she had created. Maybe one day Taaru would take over, but for now Talisia was happy with the life she had built. She had adventured plenty enough in her younger years, even setting fire to some buildings in Oba during her day to rescue a friend, and now she had her own family and home to protect back in Zena where she had once thought to never return. It was strange how the world worked at times, but honestly she was alright with the twist of fate. If anything it just made her curious about what paths continued to wait for her and the rest of her loved ones. So many of their adventures had only just begun, after all, and Talisia was eager to hear all of the stories when everyone got together once more.
