"Thank you! I think Eilwen is a nice name, too. It's very pretty!" He wondered if she would like to be his friend. He hadn't made a friend yet. He supposed that he was supposed to have made friends already, but at the moment, not so much...
He looked up as his father gave him a thumb's up from the other side of the crowd. Xeno grinned a toothy grin at Eilwen. "Dad says that the caretaker's letting us join you!" He gave Eilwen a one-armed hug and grabbed her hand to pull her along. "Come on, the group's getting ahead of us!" And indeed, the rest of the flock of children was starting to ooze down the steps and towards the next house. Xeno pulled his new potential-friend along with him to catch up with his dad, who was taking up the rear.
"I go to the Academy," Xeno said in response to her question. "But I've only been going for a week. Maybe we're not in the same classes?" He shrugged. "There's lots and lots of classes, so it makes sense that not everyone knows each other. Besides, maybe we're not in the same house? I'm in Arkham, because I want to write plays and stuff. What house are you in, Eilwen?" By this time, they were already at the next house and the door was opening. "Trick or treat!" Xeno trilled in the chorus.
The vespercat gave a loud purr and thrust its head against Foras's hand, rubbing his hand even as the freshling patted it. It gave Bath a sideways glance as if to say, "See? That's how you treat a kitty like me!"
Bath sighed. He had the feeling that it was never going to leave him alone. How was he supposed to take care of a cat? Well, sure, they supposedly took care of themselves. But he'd still have to get food, and kitty litter, and a litter box, and the dratted thing would have vet bills, and... He sighed again and reached down to scratch its ears. It purred even more loudly and wrapped its tail around his leg. Presumptuous, much? But he didn't shoo it away this time, instead carefully picking up his feet and setting it down on the other side. The vespercat stared at him, bemused and amused. "Alright," he said. "I guess I have a cat now.
"And of course I'll give you my treats. Like I said, I don't need any myself. But I thought you might like to have some. Now come on, the night ain't gettin' any younger." He held out a bucket to a passerby. "Trick or treat?"
Apparently they'd heard his comment to the kid. Or maybe they just didn't judge about a sixteen year old wearing a dress going trick or treating. Or maybe, and this was a possibility he did not like, at all, they thought he was younger than that. He'd never been accused of looking younger, but hey, it could happen, right? He fished the candy apple out of his bucket and put it in Foras's. "For you!"
Eidil ended up chasing Cal around the Fifty Year War memorial fountain in the middle of the park with the half-eaten poo candy. Out of breath, she plopped herself on the rounded rim of the fountain and finished the candy off. She looked up into the tree, where the Fallen was hiding in the branches. "It's okay!" Eidil laughed. "The evil poo is gone! It can't hurt you anymore!"
"It wasn't the poo I was worried about!" Cal dropped back down to the ground and dusted herself off. "Come on, let's go play a game. There's a floating duck race that looked like fun."
"Floating duck race--explain?" Eidil slipped her arm into her friend's and let the Fallen lead her through the festival.
"They've got a trough with water in it that's moved by a pump. Floating in the water are a bunch of plastic ducks. You pick a plastic duck, show the duck to the game master, and they give you whatever prize matches the duck."
That did sound like a pretty fun game. It was a game of chance, though, and she knew that Cal liked those... "Only if you play with me," she said firmly.
Cal sighed. "Fine." She led the way over to the stand she had been at when she was interrupted by Eidil. They waited in line, chatting about various cute boys, girls, and androgs at school until they came to the front of the line. Eidil picked a blue one, showing the design to the game master.
"Triangle! That's a little bat plush for you, then," the Baphomet said. He handed her a puffy little toy, then covered his ears as Eidil shrieked at the top of her lungs.
"Ohmygodsit'ssoCUUUUUTE!! Cal, what did you get?!"
Cal made a face. "Rectangle means candy poo," she said. She handed her friend the poo. "You keep it."
Eidil put the plush in her bucket and lead her friend away. "Green--maybe it's apple flavored?"
"You can find out if you want, but I'd rather not."
Nott "Sorry! Wait up!" Nott's arm waved as high as she could manage, trying to catch the attention of the much taller hybrids as she caught up to him in the throng. It was a disadvantage to being short, though she thought it made her look a bit cuter in her Red Riding Hood costume. She'd had to adjust the color of the hood a little so that it didn't clash horribly with her dusky purple skin, but a darker red was still red, in her book, and any of them could step in as her Big Bad Grimm in a pinch. Either way, she had a nice, delicious looking chocolate bat to put in her picnic basket, thanks to someone who had stopped her to admire her outfit.

Had a bit of a skip in his step, eyes gleaming as he clutched to his treat bucket. He was definitely going to have to remember that place, he'd been super happy to walk away with a bag of chocolate skulls, which were one of his favorites, but the fact that they'd also let him pick a plush? It couldn't have gotten better than that, and he did his best to try and balance the snuggly soft plush on the lip of his bucket as he walked, to make sure it could see.
It was a very exciting day for Hailey. The most exciting since her friend Malachi had been adopted and left their once together home. She had missed him a lot and when he and his new mom came to take her trick-or-treating, she was just about bouncing off the walls. Of course this was more of a tackling her friend and clinging to him like there was no tomorrow. She was NOT letting go of him during trick-or-treating!... though it could make things a big difficult....
Why shy little Malachi was so shocked about his friend jumping on him the way she always did was beyond him. He should be used to it, but one would guess things were a lot different for her now that he was gone. Grunting a little bit, he tried his best to hold up a candy bucket that he picked out for her, smiling a little bit to her. Once she snitched it up, while still clinging to him somehow -- such talent! -- he took his mom's hand and off they went for trick-or-treating. He sure hoped there wouldn't be a lot of tricks...
And as they came upon their first chance for trick-or-treating, Hailey excitedly dove her little hand into the bowl. When she pulled out her hand, her head cocked to the side in confusion at the bracelet she got. "Hmmm... Not candy! Oh well!" and without a second though, she reached over, grabbing Malachi's hand and slid the bracelet on him. "All for you, Khai~"
Although it didn't surprise him that Hailey couldn't help just about jumping into the first bowl of possible treats they came across, it was a little shocking when she gave him her bracelet. His eyes fell down to look at it, smiling to himself. It was the first time she gave him something... instead of trying to snitch from him. And after a few quiet moments, and a nudge from mom, he took his turn reaching into the bowl. The puzzled look on his face when he pulled out a rock turned to thoughtful after a few moments. He offered it to his friend, but when she showed no interest, he gently put it in his bucket then took mom's hand again. And then they started toward the next spot, holding hands with mom and being clung to by Hailey.

Quilo flailed inside as his friend started sneezing. Outside, he set down his bucket and put his hand on Tarin's shoulder. "You do whatever you need to take care of yourself, okay?" he said. He forlornly watched her leave and turned back to the corridor. Now he was all alone, in this spooky house.
Well, him and the actors. He looked around, picked up his bucket, and squared his shoulders. "Right!" he said to himself. "Ready or not, here I come!" He put his foot on the first step, wincing as it creaked ominously. But he nonetheless shifted his weight onto it and put his other foot on the next step. The suffocatingly narrow stairs were lit by electric candelabras held in place by--
Were those hands, sticking out of the walls?! One of the, yes, definitely a hand, passed its candelabra to the next hand and disappeared into the wall. It returned moments later with a bag of candy that it dropped into his bucket. Quilo smiled, even though the actor could not see him. "Thank you!" he trilled as the hand retrieved its candelabra. He thought he heard a giggling from behind the wall, but thought nothing of it. He continued up the stairs.
Sara was out of ball tosses at the bottle game, so she drifted over to the next booth over, a dart throwing game. Throwing darts had never really been Sara's forte. Other kids seemed to really love this game, though, so she figured, well...might as well give it a try, right? The booth was mostly abandoned right now, so there was space here.
She picked up a dart and examined it. The end of it was indeed sharp. Sharp?! Why did people put sharp objects near children?! But as she put a finger to the end of the dart, she felt her finger gently pushed away. She blinked. Aaaah, of course...an enchantment! Presumably the dart would resist flesh. Or maybe it resisted any material that wasn't the rubber balloon. She would have tested it on the plastic booth frame, but the game master was giving her funny looks. So instead, she took aim and threw the dart.
The game master scooped up the card that fell out and handed it to her. "Thank yah," Sara murmured. The card was a voucher for a free cotton candy at the cotton candy booth. Score! She tucked it into her bucket and asked the game master, "May Ah go again?"
The game master smiled. "Well, since it seems no one else is around so...I'll tell you what, I'll give you and your friend two more goes, alright?"
Sara nodded. "Seems fair t'me!"

After getting their candy bats, Laurel tugged Emma toward the front of the park again. He'd seen some really good candy up here somewhere and couldn't help but bounce once they'd found it.
"Look, candy corn!" He exclaimed, holding out the candy bag he'd picked.
Emma beamed at all the candy that Laurel had brought them too and wasted no time in picking out a swirl pop from the pile. It was such a pretty color, almost too pretty to eat! Still, they tore the wrapper off and placed it in their mouth. Mmm, yep! They'd made the right choice!
"Let's go find some games, Laurel!" The called, taking the initiative to tug their friend off.

Sascha liked the next prize he'd gotten from the games. It was a cute pumpkin bracelet, one that he'd add to his wardrobe, somehow. However, he could sense that Dahlia was less than pleased with her prize as he looked down to her. Oooh, boy, let's hope there wasn't a tantrum brewing!
Dahlia pouted at the gum in her hand. It was all crumbly and gross! How as she supposed to enjoy something like this? She folded her arms and huffed, before noticing her daddy's concerned expression.
"Can we go play somewhere else, daddy? I don't think this place had any good candy left..." She grumbled.

Sequoia was still tired, even after taking a rest, and sat down again to take another one. Her poor tired feet were really driving her nuts! Maybe they had ice buckets around to put them in? How did people walk this long? She let out a whine, sighed, and leaned back against a tree.
Then, Basil, her new Specterfox friend, dropped something onto her lap.
"Ehh? A plushie and more candy?" She gasped, grinning and petting Basil. "I hope you didn't steal this from someone else, you silly fox!"

What was that thing?! As Odessa lifted it out of her pail she nearly jumped, being taken back by the horrified face on it. Her face was twisted into one of confusion and she quickly stuffed the vegetable back into her bucket. She'd figure out what to do with it later...
Kiessi's eyes lit up when they saw the little fox. "For me?!" They were so ecstatic that they completely forgot about the nasty gum they had just gotten a moment ago. Kiessi threw their arms around the creature. They couldn't believe they were getting their first familiar! This Halloween was definitely awesome!
Eilwen smiled from behind her little mask when it seemed like Xeno would be able to join them as they went trick or treating. How exciting to be making a friend during Haunted Hallows! It was certainly the last thing she had expected to happen that day. And a fellow Chimera no less! She didn't really have many friends, much less someone who was a Chimera like herself.
She wasn't able to really return his hug before her took her hand and lead her back to the crowd of children as they began to venture on to their next home. She was surprised to hear that he went to the Academy as well. "I'm also in House Arkham! I want to design buildings when I go up!" Upon leaving the Scepters she had fallen in love with the structure of the different buildings around Asphodel. It was probably one of the few good things about leaving home.
"I've only been going there for around a year myself. I'm a little...shy. So I spend a lot of time in my room when I'm not in class..." She wasn't surprised that she had missed out on meeting someone new. She tended to space out a bit when in her classes anyway. It was likely he hadn't been placed into any of the same ones she had been.
Foras couldn't help but be amused by the little Vespercat. He knew Batholith would be an excellent caretaker for the little fellow though! The older hybrid was very good at taking care of others, or at least Foras had that opinion of him based on his own experiences with Batholith. Really, he figured the Vespercat had picked someone awesome to tag along with!
"What are you going to name them?" Foras was mostly curious, he couldn't just keep calling them "Batholith's Vespercat" after all! They needed a proper name!
When Batholith received the candy apple and dropped it into Foras's bucket he couldn't have been more thrilled. It looked super yummy! It was pretty big, but he'd be sure to eat it all up at some point. It would be such a waste not too, plus it was a gift from his awesome big brother! How cool.
With the turnip now hidden away from Phyre's eyes and Candy having worked hard to calm her down, the two made their way to the last house, Phyre going Candy's hand a tight squeeze. This time she was going to go up to the door with Candy by her side. She had learned her lesson from last time.

This house had been a jackpot for Candy at least, Phyre receiving another plushie and a rock. As Phyre looked at the rock and tried to not tear up at the lack of candy (despite getting a plushie), Candy began to explain that perhaps the two of them could start a rock collection or a rock garden for their familiars to play in. Phyre liked this idea a lot, giving her new mommy a huge and thanking her for being there for her.
