Happy Haunted Hallows--yes, indeed, the happiest that Jurvik could so far remember, and that included every darn Haunted Hallows he had ever been to at school. It had been a few weeks now since he had adopted his young friend Xenophon, and he was proud to say that his--his son!--was adapting to the change like a true champ. He'd been enrolled at the Academy with the help of a grant that...admittedly wouldn't kick in until next month, and he was living at home with Jurvik. They would consider dorms next year. Until then, he was happy to commute back and forth every morning with his little joy.
Tonight was the highlight of the season, and they had been spending all week working on Xeno's costume. And his own as well! With his son's hand held tight in his, he led his son to the park, a bounce in both their steps.
There was light, and there was laughter, and there was so much sound and--! There was candy everywhere, too, and lots of people in costumes. Xenophon clung to his father's hand, sticking so close that he was practically walking into his legs with every other step. But he was so excited he thought he would explode. Tonight! Trick-or-treating! And here they were at the entrance, the first step in this most magical of nights!
And it came with a decision. Xeno looked from one pumpkin to another, then back again. He looked up at his dad. "Which one should I pick?" he whispered. His father smiled and pointed towards the orange one.
Xeno nodded. Yes, definitely! "I would like the orange one, please?" he said. The Imp behind the counter smiled at him and handed one.
"Have fun!" she cooed.
And the night had begun! With Jurvik's prompting, he stepped up to a table where some grown-ups were sitting, chatting and knitting. "Trick-or-treat!" he trilled.
Candy thunked into Xeno's bucket from the old ladies. "Thank you!" he said.
One of them reached over and handed him something. "You have the cutest costume," she said. "Who came up with that idea?"
"He did," Dad said with a grin. "It was so amazing, we had to go with it!"
Xeno was too distracted with the object he had been handed. It was a stuffed vespercat! His eyes were wide as he stared at it. "Thank you!!" he squeaked again.
The old ladies smiled and waved him off with assurances. Clinging his new toy tight to his chest, Xeno led Jurvik to the next cluster of people.
The line for the pachinko game had gotten really small when Cnady had gotten to it, and it seemed the recent nightmare to play had finally finished as well. Now was the time to enter the line and wait, as it seemed it would not take long at all
Not long after entering the line, Candy was the next to play. This game was all about luck, so she had to be careful how she played this one. After all, pachinko was a gambling game for a reason. It wasn't just some sort of simple game, but a game of luck that pulled you in.
Luck was on Candy's side for this game, her winning a plushie Nezubat and also a candy apple. Maybe she could give this game another round or two? After all, it was a fun addicting game at the very least.
Coming up to the bottle tower game and waiting in line, Lazarus began to wish he could have something to eat and to feed his new familiar, hoping that he could win some sweets or maybe one of those cute paper ghosts for his flitterat to play with. Surely he could have better luck with his throws this time around
Better luck he sure did get, ending up receiving not just a paper ghost for his familiar to play with, but a plushie looking blob of fur as well! Perhaps the next game would give him more luck as well?
After putting hus candy in hus pumpkin bucket, Yihad moved on to another game hu had saw earlier but had been too afraid to play. It was a small memory game, where hu would have to race against the clock and another player in order to get the most matches.
Seemed overcoming hus fear of playing this game had proven to be a success yet again, hum winning some cotton candy. Perhaps Yihad could try a few more games out. After all, hu liked the feeling of winning something at the very least.
Since you could play three rounds Iah took his turn again and unfortunately caught the pure white fish which was the joker fish. He sighed and looked down at his box of raisins. Well at least it wasn’t that turnip some students had gotten. He was glad Zillah had won though. He knew she was itching to run back to their dorms.
“so since I dragged us here, you want to try again or go to another booth?” he asked.

Well maybe his luck wouldnt be too bad tonight. He had a paper doll and the lottery game over there looked interesting. he pulled out some number that read 9. He wasnt quite sure if it was a good thing or not considering he got a pack of gum, a weird pack of gum that sort of reminded him of what he thought his couch might taste like. then he was also handed a plushie. Hmm not to bad, although he was getting rid of this gum. As a litch he didnt have the best of taste buds already and it was this nasty....

While Sprout was the master craftsman when it came to glitter and Popsicle sticks, it really didn't translate well into a wearable costume. If anything it could be described as an apron of popsicle sticks, a frilled border at top only sealing the deal. The Fallen didn't seem to mind, humming to themselves.
Plenty of people seemed to be going between games and searching out candy. Sprout suddenly kicked something though, and they stopped looking to the ground. That... was one ugly radish. Frowning, Sprout had to pick it up. It seemed like someone's disappointed leftovers, but who would toss a gift away like that?!
The Litch had indeed followed. She had no one else to tag along with, so she was feeling lonely this evening. She suppose she could have asked Mikhail to come with her...yes, she probably should have done that. Oh well, too late now. She shrugged. She could always ditch this guy later if he really did get to be too rude.
"Genymede," she repeated to herself. She followed him to the next booth and watched as he threw a dart at a balloon. "I theenk the edult et the other booth was attempting jolity," she said. He didn't seem to have gotten the joke, which was a pity, since Ustule had found it mildly amusing. Oh well. Not everyone had a decent sense of humor. That was just the way things went, she supposed. But still...
She waited politely until he had finished his dart throwing and selected a dart of her own. She set her pumpkin on the ground between her feet and held up the dart appraisingly. She examined it all over, shifted her feet, took aim, and threw.
She nodded with satisfaction as the dart pierced one of the nicer balloons. The grown-up offered her a tray of treats; she picked up a delicate purple skull and slipped it into her pumpkin. "Thank you," she said, and then she turned to the Geist.
Sara watched Neptune toss the beanbags. He'd at least gotten one in, which meant he got some sort of prize. She was pretty sure that he hadn't meant to get the turnip. But was she allowed to argue with the booth operator? No, probably not. It would get her in trouble and besides, it would just embarrass Neptune. She didn't want to put him through that. "If you'd lahk, Neptune, the next tahm Ah get a treat Ah could give it to you?" She felt bad about getting so many prizes! She would need to share the wealth at some point.
"Let's go back t' the entrance an' ask 'em t' keep an ah out for Maria." She wrapped her hand around his once again. "There are some games around the entrance, too, and some trick-or-treatin' opportunities, so we could just hang around there until she arrahves?"
She turned to a group of adults seated in chairs around the periphery. There was a bowl of candy between them. "Trick or treat!" she said, holding out her bucket.
The adults smiled at her and a bag of candy corn plopped into her bucket. "Thank you! Happy Haunted Hallows!"
"Those skulls are chocolate? Really? I thought they were jaw breakers!" Quilo flailed. Chocolate was way better than jawbreakers, any day! He made a mental note to get a bag of those skull chocolates later. They sure looked yummy now that he knew he could chew on them!
But then Ella came up with the best idea ever. Quilo grinned. "Yes! Haunted house is a go! Come on, Tarin, there'll even be nice candy there!" He squeezed Ella's hand and grinned at both of the girls. "So where's the haunted house?" he asked. He hoped it wasn't too far--but then again, if it was too close, there were already too many students in it! While he waited for the answer, he held out his bucket to the next group of grown-ups they passed. "Trick or treat!"
A chocolate bat tumbled into his bucket. He looked up at the grown-up and grinned. "Thank you!" he called out. He'd had to call it out, because he was being pulled away by the girls on their inexorable quest for fun, excitement, and general jollity. Tonight was going to be a good night. With candy!

Aella swayed through the crowd keeping her wings as out of the way as she could. Her normal shy demeanor gone since she'd dawned her costume. There was nothing subtle about this outfit and she was going to own it for all it's worth. She'd been into reading about the ancient culture of Auster, or at least theoretical ideas about what life had been in those ancient jungles and had decided to go dressed as a tribal princess coupled with some sort of snake creature that might have lived in the trees. She'd even practiced a rather sinuous walk to enhance the whole "serpent" aspect. She ignored the looks she was getting from her rather revealing top. They should be glad after all she'd decided to put a skirt with this thing considering in a humid environment like a jungle, you'd be wearing even less!
She stopped her walk and paused to play one of the games for a moment.
================= She frowned as she hadn't seemed to do incredibly well, but at least was presented with a box of raisins. Well it was something, and raisins weren't the worst trick in the world.
She was about to walk away when the stop keeper tapped her on the shoulder and said she was forgetting to pick out plushie. Her mouth opened in a surprised "oh" and instantly feel in love with a little bat plushie that was near her own coloration. "Thank you~!" she smiled at the stall keeper. She'd evidently done better than she thought.
She was about to continue on when she caught sight of a very familiar blue seemingly all Chimera. "Eques!" she cried out happily and bounced over giving him a hug, put pulled back quickly knowing the feathers from her headdress were getting in his face. "No costume?" she said looking over him. Did you forget?" she asked tilting her head slightly.

Tarin nodded. "That's what they said." she said indicating the other stall. "Maybe there are jawbreaker ones too? Wouldn't surprise me." she shrugged a bit and then waited for Ella's instructions but paused to hold out her bucket.
"Trick or treat~!" she said in her sweet voice.

Tarin made a slight face as a box of raisins went into her pail. "Thank you!" she said anyway. Well, at least her mom would eat them, probably on cereal so they wouldn't go to waste.
She was about to turn back to the others when suddenly something swooped out of the booth and landed in her hair. Tarin resisted the urge to squeal and bat it away as suddenly a pair of yellow eyes peeped down from her head into stared her eyes and squeaked at her. She blinked and then smiled slightly. "Hi."
She received a squeak in return and the nezubat went back to making itself comfortable in her hair, mussing her bun. Tarin shrugged a bit and went back to the others, just waiting to see how long it took them to notice her new hat.
Things were going well so far! Though honestly, the plushie alone would have been a satisfactory haul. But the siren song of candy still beckoned the tiny Chimera on the rounds. There was so much to do! Besides the people seated around the periphery, there were game tables and game booths, and all sorts of things...
His father gently tugged on his hand. "You've been standing there frozen for a while, buddy. Where do you want to go next?"
So many options! So confusing! But Xeno wanted to trick-or-treat, not play games. He pointed to another cluster of grown-ups, and at a nod from Jurvik, pulled his father over to them. "Trick or treat!"
The grown-ups looked down at him and up at his father and smiled. One of them reached into a basket and plonked something into Xeno's bucket.
"Thank you!" Xeno said. He smiled.
Several of the adults blinked in alarm at his enormous fangs, but one of them just smiled. "First time trick-or-treating?" he asked.
Xeno shook his head. "Um, second. But my first time with my new dad." He tugged Jurvik's hand as if showing off a balloon. His dad waved at the other adult.
The other adult smiled. "Well, that's a special occasion, then! Here you go!" And he handed Xeno an orange puffy object. Upon closer inspection it appeared to be a...pillow! With a face? But it was very fluffy and very, very huggable. He smiled again. "Thank you!!"
"You are welcome. Happy Haunted Hallows, both of you--and have a good time!"
Bouncing around happily, she scuttled over to the next house in her vespercat costume, jumping up to hit the button. Light flooded the steps as the door opened and she wagged her tail, looking up at the Nightmare with a toothy grin. She waved a hello, and the kindly Nightmare bent down and patted her head before slipping something over her hand, then moved on to the next child. Tayce looked at her wrist and rolled it the other way to see the whole bracelet. It wasn't edible, but it was pretty colors and she was satisfied. Nodding happily, she waved goodbye and toddled away.

Oh man, the decorations were killer this year. He'd kinda hoped the Haunted House would open up again so he could ask Yue to go with him, but alas, it was not to be. That place had seriously been creepy. At least the school's 'decorations' didn't include old notes and starving flitterats. None of this stuff even moved. Though that weird double-winged rat looked like a pretty good replica.
It. Blinked. Nah, had to be enchanted. Poking it, he jumped back as it squeaked. Seriously? He didn't even know familiars could be mutated too. Oh man, his ratty trio were gonna get a kick out of this.
Running a tentative finger down the little flitterat's muzzle, Drav scooped up the speckled guy and hustled back to his dorm. As he unlocked the door he peeked into his bucket, faithfully sitting out in the hall like the lazy senior he was. No. Oh hell no. What the he-
He couldn't believe it. They actually made candy shaped like that now. Ugh. It was a gummy, even. Heh, bet this would be the one gummy candy Yue would never steal. Ugh, no way was he eating this thing.

Running around with a bedsheet for a cape and a little white mask over his face, Eli figured they'd come up with a better costume later. Really, hadn't planned on going out tonight at all, but the sounds of the kids squealing and all the ruckus made them feel like they were missing out. Eh, this could be the last year that they were still young enough to get away with trick or treating, might as well take advantage of it.
Going up to another door, Eli held up the bucket with a grin and gave the customary greeting, receiving something pretty big in return. Curious, they reached in and pulled out a sugar skull. Cool!

Unloading his gear gently before tossing his coat into a heap on the couch, he went back out to see what was taped to his apartment door. A note from management, wishing everyone a happy Haunted Hallows, as well as a wrapped chocolate bat stuck to the note. Dark chocolate? Metal.
Freaking wrappers never tore right though, and the damn thing went flying. Sighing, he picked it up and examined it. Eh, clean enough. Kaz popped it into his mouth before kicking off his boots and stretching his legs, enjoying the slow melt of the rich, bittersweet flavor in his mouth.

Scuttling from her last class for the day, she stretched and hurried out, stopping by one of the many buckets set up with 'Happy Haunted Hallows, Please Take One', only to find one of those popcorn filled gloves. Meh, free food.
Far more importantly, as she left the campus to head to her apartment, there was a box outside in the grass. The box looked a little worn, and the bedding in it had seen better days. Along with perhaps the young vespercat curled up in it. Abandoned? There was no collar or anything, and who would leave a cat in a box unless it was abandoned? Ix frowned as she bent down to pick up the bundle of fur. Poor thing. Well, there was enough extra space in her apartment for the scrap of fur, how hard could caring for a vesperkitty be?

Ah, so she did follow. He stared at her while she lined herself up... Sooooo slooooow. She did hit the balloon, but goooods so sLOOOW! He wasn't even going to bother addressing her pointing out that the game master was joking. He totally knew that. Totally. Yeah. He stared at the prize she'd gotten... sugar skull... would that taste good at all?
"Why'd you take so long?" He tilted his head, and was about to speak again but a passing adult tossed a chocolate bar into his pail before running off again. He stared at it for a moment... scream bar.... He hadn't heard of those before. Hm. "All you gotta do is throw it so why spend forever lining up?" He looked back to.... Ustule, right? Yeah.... Ustule...
He blinked at Sara's offer, then shook his head hurriedly, almost tossing the flower crown off of his head. Quickly he readjusted it before answering. "O-oh, no, i-it's okay. The um... the tricks are... kind of n-nice too..." He nodded, but that... that turnip...... He probably wouldn't keep it for long. The face was just too creepy! Ugh... He shuddered internally, and then nodded at Sara's suggestion. "Y-yeah...! Um-- M-Maria might h-have an easier time s--seeing us there, t-too..." He gave her hand a little squeeze, and then followed her back towards the entrance.
Upon running into the adults, he blinked at Sara, then held up his bucket too to mimic her, "u-um... t-t-trick or t-t-treat?" That was how he was supposed to do it, right? His stammering earned him a sympathetic smile and one pumpkin bracelet... The other adult tossed in a little nezubat plushie too, while his pail was still up. He stammered a hurried "thank you! H-Happy Hallows!" and then moved away with Sara to go find the real entrance. "Th--that was nice... um... wh-what sort of message should w-we leave for Maria...?"
He perked, hearing Nimbus call his name. Ah, what a relief. He grinned, tail swishing excitedly. "Oh~! There you are. It's okay! Ahahaa I think I got a little lost myself." He nodded, and then lightly bumped Nimbus with his hip.
"This is perfect! It's very reassuring. You are such a good friend, Nimbus." He nodded, very pleased to have something solid to stick to. Now he was far less likely to crash into someone else! He should probably consider getting some glasses or something to hide his eyes... people tended to think he could see where he was going... "Oh! I dunno, I'm not particularly picky, but I am a fan of chocolate!" He nodded. "So lead the way~"
A passing caretaker dropped a couple items into his pail, then made a "shhh" motion at Nimbus before disappearing again. Lior of course noticed the difference in weight and tilted his head. "Is it just me, or did my pail get heavier?"
Ooh! A beanbag toss. Corben stopped to play the game, earning himself a nice caramel apple. Now this was a real prize. He grinned and continued on his way, occasionally stopping to praise the younger children on their creative costumes and pass out some chocolate covered sunflower seeds. Oh yes~ this was a great night.
