"How does this game look?" Candy asked as she let Phyre look at the toss game. It was a simple game. You tossed bean bags and tried to get them in specific colored buckets to get prizes ", You try to get your bean bag into one of the buckets. Each one gives you a prize if you make it, and we each get three bean bags to try and get into the buckets. Each time we make it we get a prize."
"And if you don't?"
"Bad tasting candy and other nasty tricks is your prize. Not exactly a good reward for missing."
"Oh..." The freshling looked over the game while on Candy's shoulders, giving a nod of approval. She could get one of the bean bags in a bucket no problem! ", Sure, let's play! I'll get lots of candy today!"
Candy
Phyre
The first throw for Candy missed, causing the nightmare in charge of the game to hand her a package of nastee gum. Oh great, this stuff Candy knew was horrible. Hopefully Phyre did better with her throw.
Do better she did! Sure it was one of the outer ring buckets, causing Phyre to get some raisins, but it also was a special bucket where Phyre could pick out any plushie she wanted from the ones available ", Plushies! I want the black Nezubat!" The moment it was in her arms, Phyre snuggled that plushie tightly. From the few times Candy had met Phyre, she had come to realize that the freshling hybrid had a huge attachment to plushies.
Edited 10/17, got rid of a bit I didn't realize I'd left in it. Oops...
The next game Lazarus found was a music game, one where you guessed the lyrics to a Haunted Hallows Eve song. If you were right, you got a fantastic prize! Since Lazarus knew his music, he figured it would be worth giving this a shot. After all, Lazarus did want to become a musician when he got out of the academy. If he was to do that, he better know his holiday music.
Lazarus
Wow, Lazarus sure did know his music. He had almost gotten every line right, and for that he received some candy and a plushie. However, this candy seemed to be a bit harder, and wouldn't be something his familiar could snack on quite yet.
"Sorry friend, I guess we will have to find somewhere else to go. Maybe we could start heading around town for treats?"
Two more rings to go, and Yihad was already doing pretty good. Hu had managed to win a plushie, but perhaps hu could get a bit more candy? After all, hus bucket wasn't full yet, and what kind if Haunted Hallow's Eve would it be without a full bucket of candy?
All Yihad had to do was prepare hus next shot, aim for the bucket hu wanted, and repeat the process with the last ring. Was that so hard?
Yihad
Nice! Yihad once again managed to get a prize, and this time it seemed to be a sugar skull. A cute on as well. However, hu still had one more ring left, and hu wanted to make this one count. Well... try to anyway. Perhaps hus luck would finally run dry ad hu would retreat back into hus room to mope.
“Yes, its the name of the race the familar comes from” Lerin replied and figured she should probably start constructing an argument about how they needed to keep it to her significant others, not that they were any better at resisting frost’s puppy eyes. “Well I’m not quite sure. I’ll make sure to find out though” hopefully it didn’t get hungry any time on the way home since she needed her phone to look it up. Why couldn’t frost have found a nezubat or vespercat she knew more about those.
“Alright, well then I will be happy to accept” Lerin replied, somehow they had raised a pretty good kid and it made her happy to see frost growing up… just if he could do it a bit more slowly that would be nice. “Yep we’ll make Aunt nasai all sorts of jealous” okay so maybe Lerin also had a weakness for bats. She was drawn out of her musing by a sudden distressed squeak that was coming from her over the shoulder bag. Flipping open the flap she was met face to face with a nezubat. As it was suddenly freed from its prison it flapped around them before settling down on Lerin’s shoulder. “Well I hope Allie and Seth wanted pets.” If not she could always gift it to her sister. Maybe… if it stopped giving her that cute little face. Okay she was a mush mellow.

“Well uh, maybe not Headmaster Ava’s house. You see I might have accidently blown up the printer and messed up a good chunk of her office just recently. Those familiars where really hard to catch” Pherein admitted sheepishly. Still it was good not to prank someone in such a high position quite too much, even if it wasn’t a prank. Pherein had also dropped her voice down as well. They were going to enjoy this Halloween. “Hmm that might be fun” Pherein stated. “But candy more though. We need all the candy and more plushies…” apparently the universe agreed because as pherein made a motion with her hand a plushie of all things fell into it, well that and a lollipop. Wow that was a big lollipop.
Of course she was brought out of her pondering when they found Korv, she frowned and looked at the situation. “well um maybe wait until willow stops cursing his good luck, that is not the look of some one that wanted to be found by korv” willow gave the best expressions when that was the case though.
Odessa continued through the crowd, humming softly to herself when she noticed a line for a game. She contemplated for a moment before smiling and tossing the little ball into the basket, it took her a couple of tries, but somehow the last ball slipped perfectly into the Grand Prize bucket! She smiled widely when the attendant told her she had won a cute fox familiar, and somehow... some raisins.... "Thank you!"
Quilo shrugged. "I think the Nezubats are just picking people they like. So don't be surprised when you get one, too, Ella!" He put the helmet back onto his head and gave Ella a hug. The bat squeaked in his ear and shifted positions so that it was now dangling from the inside of his helmet. He made it surprisingly heavy, but Quilo didn't dare knock him off his helmet. What if he decided to abandon Quilo after that? No, this was the Geist's first ever pet, and he wanted to keep it! Which was precisely what he was going to do.
Another adult passed them by--it seemed they had picked a pretty busy place at the festival to stop and compare bats! He held out his bucket hopefully. "Trick or treat!"
The adult smiled and plopped something in his bucket. Quilo glanced in and hid a face. Raisins?! Why?!
But the grown-up wasn't done yet. She was staring at his new helmet decoration. "Oh, that is so cute!" she said. "Here, hold on a second, I've got just the thing for you!" She held up a tiny bat plush, the same color as his new pet. "There you go!" she said, dropping it in his bucket.
Quilo grinned. "Thank you! And happy Haunted Hallows!"
Okay, so not a Geist thing. It was still a southerner thing...or at least a non-Litch thing. But then he asked about her accent. She sighed. She was tired of getting questions about her accent. Of course she had an accent, everyone had an accent. Hers was just easier to understand, is all. "I just do. Everyone talks like thees where I come from. I might es well esk you why you talk like you do. Because you do talk fahnny." And it was true! She was only now getting used to the way people talked around here. And that had taken months! Sometimes she worried that she'd start talking like the people here did...certainly her vocabulary was already starting to match. Thankfully her voice had not yet followed...
As they continued to...wherever they were going, Ustule would chant the mantra to every adult they passed, holding out her pail to receive whatever treat--or trick--they saw fit to bestow upon her. She paused for a second to take stock. A popcorn hand, well, that looked interesting. And another bat plushie! Where was she going to keep those?! She didn't want to lose them in her bed!

Coming to a stall, Kiessi happily pulled out they're pail, smiling widely, "Trick or treat!" When the other student put in a cute little bracelet, Kiessi nearly jumped up in glee. "Thank you!" Moving out of the line, they dug around in the bucket and placed the little bracelet on they're wrist. "Awesome!" They couldn't wait to see what else was in store.
Sara peered at the black and orange plushie and shrugged. "It does kahnda look lahk me. But Ah've seen some kids around with a brown one, and Ah think that looks more lahk me." She held out her brown arms as if to demonstrate. "Now if there was a brown and red one, then that'd definitely be me transmogrifahd into a bat plushie!"
Yes, the look on Neptune's face confirmed it--her first version was a total mess. She snorted. "Yes, let's go with that simpler one." She took his hand and lead him towards the entrance. She took note of that second turnip, but decided that now was not the time to take action.
Pestilence trailed behind them, her brown eyes awake with lust. The dog boy had food in his bucket. Real food, not just sugar! Her slot eyes watched him warily, waiting for the chance to strike...
Sara stopped at the table at the entrance and relayed the message to the Imp. The Imp nodded. "I'll keep an eye out for your friend," she promised. "Have fun at the festival, you two!"
"Thanks!" Sara turned to smile at Neptune. "Ah guess now we just wait!" Someone passed by her, a tall Chimera. She held out her bucket. "Trick or treat!"
The Chimera gave her a look, one that clearly said "you are entirely too old for this." But he nonetheless dropped something in her bucket. Sara hid her disappointment. A rock?! Didn't that just happen in unfunny comicstrips?
Xeno pet his new pet gently. It squeaked and spread its wings out to cling even tighter to his shirt. What did Nezubats eat? He frowned. He would have to ask Dad later--Dad would know. But now Dad was looking at him, waiting for him to make a decision on where to go. Forward, obviously, but forward where? Xeno looked around and picked a random direction to walk in. He clutched Jurvik's hand as he looked at everyone's costumes. Over here, there were more tables, many of them decorated with table cloths with words on them. He squinted and tried to read them. Ada's Repair,Niel's Groceries... "Are these all stores?" he asked.
Before his father could answer, an Imp at a nearby table nodded. "Yes! All of the businesses come out this time of year to give out candy and prizes."
Xeno tilted his head. "Why?" He glanced up at his father, who had started to chuckle.
But the Imp seemed startled by the question. "Well, practically everyone in town is out here tonight..." he said lamely. As if to cover his fluster, he tapped a bowl to his left. "Would you like something?" he asked.
Xeno was pretty sure he knew what came next. He nodded, held out his bucket, and said "Trick or treat, please?"
The Imp laughed and tossed something into his bucket. Xeno looked in--it appeared to be a big back of eyeballs! He stared at the vendor. The Imp smiled. "They're caramels, I swear!" He held up his hands. "It's a tradition."
Xeno inspected them. He would have opened the bag to try one right now, but...well, he wanted to save it for later. "Thank you!"
"You are welcome, young man. Good luck on all of your endeavours this evening."
Eventually, Elienne--Callessa's darling mother--chased her off with some sort of excuse about "not wasting her time on old-lady stuff." Business? Being a pursuit for old ladies?! She thought her mother knew her better than that! But then again, furtive movements through the air and along the ground showed Callessa that pumpka were around and about the festival, and that was worth investigating...
Callessa liked growing vegetables. It was her hobby, and very nearly her passion. Very nearly, because her true passion was science, and botany. She'd been planting pumpkins every year in the hopes of catching a pumpka, but so far her meager plots of land had not yet been cursed blessed with a bouncing belligerent. Tonight was her chance to catch one on her own...but those notoriously tricky flora would not be fooled easily. No...she would have to blend in with the crowds. With that goal in mind, she set out, her pail held out to candy-givers. "Trick-or-treat!"
An adult tilted his head at her. "What are you dressed as?"
She was glad her mother had insisted that they dress up. She held out her arms to show the black feathers dangling from them. "I'm an undercover scarecrow," she said.
The adult snorted and dropped a bag of candy corn in her bucket. "I like it!"
"Thanks! Happy Haunted Hallows!"

"That would be cool if you got one two, Ella. Then we'd all match." Tarin said nodding her head.
She looked around the other stalls before walking up to one and holding up her pail. "Trick or treat." she said with a smile.
==============
Her efforts were rewarded when one of the Seniors minding the booth dropped something into her bucket. "Thank you~!" she said before rejoining the others to check to see what she'd gotten.
She frowned a bit as the packaging squished a bit. Evidently the chocolate on this bat was really melted, but oh well, she wasn't going to eat any of her candy until later and it would solidify once it got cool again.

Aella fidgeted as she made him blush and get all flustered. It was a never ending cycle it seemed. "Nothing much, just a plushie and a box of raisins." she said fishing out the plushie and showing it to him. "It uh...well it's kind of colored like me..." she said lamely and put it back in her bucket.
She smiled as someone dumped something in his bucket and she peeked in. "Least you're doing better." she said.
==============
She was surprised as the person who had dumped something in Eques' bucket came back and dropped something in hers. "Sorry, didn't see you originally!" they said before hurrying off again.
Aella blinked and peeked in then held up the skull. "Guess we match, a bit." she said with a smile.
Brought out of his horrified daze, he nodded to Melisara and numbly followed her up to the front again. Those turnips must be out to get him or something... that had to be the only explanation for it! Why else would he keep getting them? He looked to the Imp at the entrance and nodded, "U-um... y-you too!" He then followed after Sara. When she approached the adult Chimera, he mimicked her as well, and... got some raisins. Wow.
"Oh... d-do you like raisins, S-Sara?" he looked to her curiously, just in time for a nezubat to fly over her head and land atop his! He yelped in surprise, but the pesky thing just wouldn't get off no matter how hard he shook.......
Everyone talked like that where she was from? Oh. She was a real litch. He frowned a little, why did he keep running into real kids? He couldn't exactly pretend he was from one of the Geist cities, he clearly didn't know enough about real Geist culture to pull it off. "Oh. You're from... Boreas then." It took him a minute to remember, he hadn't really focused on any other race than his own in his social studies class.
"Soooo what makes people here sound weird?" He mimicked her trick-or-treat, earning himself... another turnip. Wow. Not one piece of candy! Were people purposely being mean?
Joselyn had begged and pleaded with Burvia to take xir out for their first Haunted Hollows event. Burvia had always loved the tricks and treats all the Nightmares cooked up. And while she was excited for the festivities, Burvia was nervous about going out alone on her first big celebration with Joselyn. What if she screwed it up? Her first real chance to make a difference in this child's life?
Burvia had to stop worrying about it ...
Taking Joselyn's clawed hands in her own, the two set out, candy buckets in hand to go and gather their goodies for the night.
Joselyn was lucky. They had gotten a cute blue candy skull to nibble on, and was quite content. However, Joselyn saw xir mom was less lucky and had received raisins. But ... Burvia didn't seem put off by this at all! Why ... why was that?
"Uhm ... mom?"
Burvia had raised to box of raisins to her lips, having ripped the top open and poured the contents in to her mouth. Joselyn's eyes widened in horrified.
"What are you doing!? You'll die!!" Joselyn claw-smacked the box of raisins out of Burvia's hands, and now it was Burvia's turn to looked horrified.
"Heeey ... my raisins! Why would you do that, Joselyn? I love raisins ... that was really mean of you!"
"I was trying to save you, those things are poison!"
Oh, the differences between child and adult ...
Meanwhile, close by, a Spectrefox nosed the half-full box of raisins. These amazing people had left their food scraps out for them ... perhaps they weren't such bad people.
