For me, my manga/anime interest all started with seeing Sailor Moon on TV. I think the first manga I read was either Chobits or Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne. Still 2 favorites.

I think my first ever manga was Hana Yori Dango. I hated it (the art style was just... ugh). Later, I saw the first 12 volumes of Fushigi Yuugi at Salvation Army for a buck each, and bought them, figuring "one of my friends might like them." I started the first out of boredom and I've been a manga addict ever since.
