"Hmph," stated Fenik as he soared through the air, only letting the slightest wisps of flame trail off his feathers. It was enough to keep warm in this cold climate, but he didn't want to make himself a beacon. A drip of flame from his beak with every breath kept it from freezing. To Fenick, snow is bothersome, but it could be worse. It could be raining.
Alongside Fenick, also remaining low-key, Shar slithered through the night air. It kept to about a 4-foot stream of airy flame, not glowing too brightly. Snow that hit his pure-element body would quickly melt, but having nothing to fall on, continued downward as a drop of water falling through him, not fully evaporating before re-freezing in the cold air below.
"Hmph, you sssay? I can think of ssseveral things for which you would Hmph. Which would it be now, Massster Shujaku?"
"War. Such disarray. Those who lunge themselves into the fight without a plan. Without grace. Without finesse."
Shar stared at Fenik with his indistinguishable firey eyes.
"Aaand?"
Fenik again let out a 'Hmph' and smirked.
"Summer is last to show. Though I have no complaint about not being in the battle, I also don't believe there is such a thing as being fashionably late. One is either fashionably timely or lazily late."
The battlefield approached far below. Though the snow made it difficult to pick up the details of all that was happening, it was unquestionable that the first advances had begun. Fenik swooped a bit lower, gliding at about 2000 feet in elevation. Troops were camped out on several sides, the Autumn and Spring camps closer together than Winter's troops on the other side of the battlefield. Frost giants and Trolls were obviously in the action, but Fenik knew there must be something more down there.
With a sudden veer, Fenik spun around and soared back toward the allied side. He spotted what appeared to be a man on a hill. Though by physical appearance he didn't seem foreboding, Fenik sensed by his body language that this was not someone to tango with. Not now, at least. Unsure whether he had been spotted or not, Fenik knew that falling back was a logical approach. Shar followed closely
On their way back, Shar broke the silence.
"Permission to burn freely, massster?" Shar had spotted a cluster of dead trees, and it had been days since the elemental had had any sustenance.
Fenik held course for a moment, then sighed with a bit up a grumble.
"Fine. Make it quick."
Shar rocketed down straight into a large dead tree, wrapping himself around it and flaring up with bright intensity. Within a minute the sky was glowing around that area of the forest as a cluster of trees erupted into towering infernos. A jet of fire shot up into the air and slithered it's way up toward a much smaller light that was still gliding around up high.
"That was more than necessary." If Fenik had his palms right now, he would have put one to his face. Shar hissed out a giggle as they flew back past the Autumn and Spring camps.
"We need to report the situation to the rest of Summer leadership."
Shar hissed back in amusement,
"Sssuch a killjoy."
