Today, Democrats caved on nearly everything except abolishing social security. Republicans rejected it out of hand presumably because abolishing social security is the goal of holding the economy hostage.

Did I not say last year that repeatedly caving to republican demands to harm the economy was going to lead to more economic hostage situations?

* Republicans are claiming that Obama wanting to raise the debt ceiling past the next Presidential election is "playing politics," pretending that doing this bullshit all over again in an election year would not politicize it even further. Sigh.

* I watched the President's speech in real time. I didn't here anything new. He is calling for people to speak up if they are in favor of a balanced approach, instead of making all cuts to social programs. Sigh.

* Watching the President walk away from the podium, made me think of Lorne's body language in the final shot of his final scene in Angel, when he was walking away both literally and figuratively. I'm not sure how much to read into that.

* John Boehner repeated the same hot air, pushing the same bad Bush era economic policies only more extreme and how that will magically produce different results than it has for the last decade. he also claims the Republican manufactured debt ceiling crisis is suddenly the President's fault and has nothing whatsoever to do with republican refusal to raise the debt ceiling unless we abolish social security to pay for more tax cuts for the rich.

* Really they both sounded like "blah, blah, blah" to me.

* The commentary made me want to stab people through the TV.

* Apparently there has been a rise in anti-Semitic, anti-Buddhist, and anti-Muslim harassment in universities in Oslo, according to recent studies. I've been saying these sorts of things are often linked, in my commentary on events over here, but was unaware this was going on in Norway.

* Despite the shooter in Norway having been explicitly anti-Muslim, right wing commentators, Fox "News," and bloggers seem to be paining his as Muslim. To which I say WTF?? Using an anti-muslim mass murderer of children to whip up anti-muslim violence in the Us is a horrible, scary thing. Others, including Glen Beck, are going with a blame the victim approach. Combining victim blaming and Godwin's law? Really? REALLY? I think this is disgusting.
