A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
* I just saw Senator Jim Webb argue the Vietnam War was a good idea and a success, and therefore by analogy so is Afghanistan. O.o

* In case you missed it, deusabscondum says some interesting things in the comments here: http://gwyd.livejournal.com/1101010.html

* Gadhafi claims he can't step down because his people love him too much. O.o UN security Council voted that Gadhafi should be referred for trial to the Hague. Our war ships are floating offshore. People in Tripoli are still trapped in thweir homes while Government mercenaries still rampage.

* Re: the dogpile on Michelle Obama for encouraging people to eat healthier. If Mike Huckabee is looking moderate, things have gotten way out of hand.

* Yes, I saw the Charlie Sheen interview. It's really clearly time for rehab before someone gets seriously hurt. I also keep thinking how terrifying this must be for his children. It's not funny; it's scary.

* No surprise, they lied about letting the Protesters back in today in Wisconsin. They are only letting people into the building with ID proving they work their. An Assembly woman who refused to show her ID on principle is locked out with the protesters.

* Iran has arrested protest leaders and their wives, though the government is denying it.

* I'm still sick. I think my body is trying to decide on it it wants to move on to serious lung infection or flu territory now that the worst of the cold is past. I'm so tired of medicinal tea right now.

* I am so glad I didn't bother with the Oscars on the grounds that 1. It's boring. 2. James Franco's eyes make me uncomfortable. 3. I generally only watch if there's someone I really want to see presenting or a movie I care about intensely is up for best picture. Everything I've heard about it sounds horrid, especially the "hur hur hur man in drag" crap. No thanks.

* I know people mock Helena Bonham Carter, but in my mind, she's like Bjork. She just seems to have so much fun being herself, and I can only appreciate that.

* Feyandstrange revisits about technology, casting, and the social politics of the film, Towering Inferno, and has a lot of interesting things to say: http://feyandstrange.livejournal.com/1071461.html?style=mine#cutid1

I vaguely remembering one or more of my parents watching this while we played on the living room floor, but it never occurred to me to watch it on purpose. Now I'm tempted.

* Congratulations to seanan_mcguire for the Late Eclipses drop! I hope it rocks the book charts! I'm looking forward to reading it.
