The chaos didn’t just retreat, didn’t just back off–it was destroyed.

It wasn’t any one person, it was a culmination of the efforts of everyone.

Alastor and Sessrumnir went into the cave to destroy the chaos at its source, but they couldn’t have gone that far without the help of everyone who helped distract and weaken the shadows.

The shadows tried to take the Core, and failed. Valhalla, Ephesus, Amarynthos, and Lucasta put up a good effort on their own, and Ganymede’s usage of her purification and Royal magic burned away the chaos and charged the world’s Core enough that it could fight back.

Also inside the Hall, and managing The Light that protected them from the shadows, Encke, Basiluzzo, and Viatrix had to guard against the Chaos as it attempted to infiltrate the information center. They succeeded, and thanks to their efforts the lights stayed on to aid in their battle against the shadows.

It was not without its hardships though; the Disruption required Daphne, Avici, Abzu, and Soleiyu to investigate–and destroy whatever was causing the lights to flicker. The shadows had been unkind to them, but they succeeded in fending them off and destroying the small clusters of chaos that were interfering with the lighting.

Phantasia, a senshi Court composed of Varuna, Malus, Adria, and Ilse, and led by Lysithea, used their Court magic to defend a wall of chaos that spread from the forest at the West Gate. They succeeded in blocking the largest entrance to the Hall from a powerful wave of darkness.

The combined efforts of Cybele, Palatine, and Siegfried kept the North Wall defended; they were able to shoot down dangerous debris. Floating in the sky, well above the clouds, the storm had brought down giant rocks. The projectiles could have done immense damage to the Hall, but broken into smaller pieces of debris, they left only craters in the distance–away from everyone else.

The East Wall had already been damaged when Voyager, Tanais, Rainier, and Acrucis had arrived. While they were hanging lights up to secure the perimeter, a strange, shadow-infested beast attacked them. It managed to crack the wall and slid through, but they were able to defeat it–and the powerful accumulation of chaos at its core.

Not too far, from the East Wall, the Garden had been polluted by another strange chaos anomaly; this one sucked the nutrients from the ground, and tried to do the same to them, but Maia, Shangri-La, Shedir, and Meissa overcame the illusions and destroyed the powerful chaos.

At the South Wall, Erytheia, Mira, and Terebellum had to combat a fierce wave of shadows that threatened to overtake the wall. Thanks to their efforts defending it, the chaos failed to take root and couldn't slip past them to attack the Hall.

Nearby, the Underground Storage was partially underwater by the time Ida, Athene, Illyria, and Selinur went down to find the chaos anomaly. In the back, beyond walls of chaos and darkness, they had to find a powerful chaos anomaly and destroy it. It took a great force, but thanks to their combined teamwork, and Ida’s restorative magic that helped give everyone a second wind to fight, the attempt to save Alastor might not have succeeded.

The Rivers of Alastor had always been dangerous, and now was no different. Solaris, Realta, Caliban and Hyberborea had to cross a large, raging current to find the chaos anomaly on the other side, and the condensed darkness fought–hard–to keep its grip on the world. It was no match for them, though.

The ruins were by the water; within them, a chaos anomaly that was old and powerful and driven to consume all that it could. It couldn’t handle the combined force of Nembus, Phaethon, Ancha, and Hydor; they were able to destroy it before its power could grow and manifest more danger.

Downstream at the Dam, Perdita, Oberon, Surtur, and Ymir had to clear a blockage that was causing the river to flood, and if they hadn’t it was likely that the water would have reached the Hall. In combination with the damage already done to the East Wall, the effects could have been catastrophic. They had to subdue a chaotic outburst and free the debris clogging the river–but they succeeded.

The Grove was not so far off, and Iduna, Hawara, Drombeg, and Puck had to find a powerful chaos anomaly capable of spawning dark, immersive illusions. It created a dense, dark cluster of trees and underbrush meant to sway and mislead them, but they overpowered the illusion–and the anomaly, destroying the anchor point it used to fuel itself.

And now, they were back in the lobby of the Hall. Except, everything was different. There was a warmth that hadn’t been there before, and sunlight streamed through the stained glass mirrors, basking the room in pretty colors. The plan had always been to reconvene here after their success. The only two people missing were Sessrumnir and Alastor, but they’d messaged Amarynthos to let him know they were on their way back, and the Moon Squire had no issue making sure everyone knew.

Which meant, everyone was accounted for. Maybe a little worse for wear, but they’d all survived. They had destroyed the Chaos that had plagued Alastor for centuries. A Chaos that had poisoned his world for longer than he could remember. And now, his world was free.

He couldn’t have done it alone.

When Alastor finally arrived, he was still a bit waterlogged, but he’d preened and fixed himself up because he couldn’t allow himself to show up looking like he’d just been half-drowned or worse. He’d powered down and then back up again, so his uniform was fresh and clean. The glowing lights his Core had gifted him had faded at some point during his journey. Sessrumnir arrived with him, and despite being the last to enter he didn’t try to make much of a show of it.

He looked for a few faces in the crowd and, while he’d had his reservations about all of the strangers on his world, he wasn’t sure if he’d have found success if it had been only the ones he’d invited.

When he was closer to the group he asked, “Did everyone make it out all right?”

Sailor Solaris

Solaris made the walk back to the Hall carefully. Slowly. Seeing the sun beginning to rise finally over the world, the dancing lights in the air from the ancient, massive tree..

They tipped her over. The tears spilled, buried into the lilac Mauvian's fur as she carried the feline. The large bruises along her side had eased up from the magic that had pulsed through the world at one point, though some still lingered at her bare shoulder and hip beneath her skirt, deep as they'd been. Wet, but not cold, Solaris paused for a little while beneath the oak, staring up at the lights, letting herself shake and sob.

It's really possible.

The thoughts wouldn't stop. The hope, such a tiny flicker in her chest, burned. Tentative, nervous to really believe but... there.

Sucking in deep breaths of clean, fresh air, she forced herself to calm. At least... mostly. Enough that she could finish walking into the Hall, and stare about in a moment of wonder at those collected here. She wondered if most of them had any idea the significance of what they'd just done, a thousand years after this siege had begun.

But they'd done it. What else really mattered?

Setting down Realta gently, Solaris ventured deeper, waiting for the familiar face she really needed to see. Her wings flapped about a bit, trying to dry off--wet feathers were annoying...

When Alastor made his appearance, she almost wondered if she was going to cry again that night--day? Did a sunrise mean her cry count went back to zero?--for the tightness in her chest. But the pride and relief she felt for him...

She stepped towards Alastor and the Jovian Knight (Sessrumnir) somewhat slowly, eyes misty but... The tightness in her throat kept her from speaking--she was fairly certain she'd just start bawling, and no one needed that--but she held her arms towards Alastor in an only slightly more confident version than what she'd done when she'd first seen him again after a thousand years.

Mauvian Realta

As Solaris stepped over to Alastor, Realta sighed with relief, happy to see everyone at least seemed to be in one piece. She noticed his lack of being drenched, though, with wry amusement. She was still rather soaked herself, though it wasn’t something she was about to cry about. Just a discomfort she’d need to address… There were some fires around, at least, and plenty of people with various long fabrics and extra layers they could probably afford to share if she really wanted to bother them…

Savannahs, thankfully, didn’t have very thick fur, and were very fond of water.

Her gaze wandered about the group carefully. Looking for injuries, looking for... fallout from what they might have dealt with, if the Chaos had reacted similarly to them as their group at the River had dealt with...

The magic had felt both familiar and strange. However, it all had that lightness, that certain-ness, of Order.

One he recognized fully as Ida as he had been there when her powers had first manifested. Another he could only assume was Ganymede as it had the same strength as the princess but of a slightly different hue. The last was all together new, not being that of a royal, yet wholly different than any other signature he had yet felt.

Erytheia looked to the sky and he saw the sunlight for the first time since he had been here. He would see stars, too, he’d thought, if it had been night. Whatever had formerly blocked the sky of Alastor, it was gone now.

The Hall was renewed in the new light and Alastor himself seemed as well.

“Is it gone? I… don’t sense it any more.” Erytheia tried to shake the image from Tama from his mind, yet it still lingered. “The Chaos, I mean.”

So it could be done - they could win. He felt something of a smile tug at his lips as he stood in the back of the area, away from most of the others gathered, arms crossed over his chest. The place looked nice, not exactly to his taste, but it was nice and he could see the appeal of a place like this. But this planet, the people of this planet, had a history and one he knew. Mentally he shrugged though...chaos was at least dead here and that was reason to celebrate. It didn't matter what this planet had once been or who it's people had once been - they were gone. What mattered was that this place no longer was a play thing for chaos.

Sniffing at the air he sighed and made his way towards Ida, Athene, and the mauvian who'd been in his group. "When we get home can I shower first - wet fur smell." And he'd like to get his fur properly clean, so it didn't smell like the water inthe underground. "I smell." As if he really needed to tell them, he was certain they could smell him right now. He did however like that he could smell better here than on Earth, aside from how he personally smelled anyway.

"I hope you're both up for fights like this. With more senshi like myself, and Alastor, we'll be having to clear other planets of the chaos that's been there for a long time." It would not be easy. It needed to be done though. He was certain they'd help, they'd need the support of royals, in order to have these victories elsewhere in space.

Princess Ganymede

Back up in the Hall, Ganymede lingered in her more powerful form with a wariness that would not dissipate, but which tread close enough to relief that she was not completely consumed by anxiety. Their success came with no small amount of happiness, but also a great deal of dread.

Other than a missing jewel from her gown and some minimal dishevelment to her hair, Ganymede seemed relatively unharmed. She was tired, but not to the same extent she had been after less successful battles. For the time being, she kept her distance from many of the others, though she remained close to Valhalla.

“I wish I could be satisfied with this,” she said. “It’s an accomplishment.”

They’d had so few reasons to celebrate over the years. They should take the opportunity to do so now. They’d saved a world, freed it from Chaos, and in doing so they’ve proven that such a feat was possible. They could take this knowledge, this experience, and build from it.

But she knew, after more than a decade of fighting, that freeing Earth would not be so easy. That knowledge weighed on her, more now than before.

-------------------------------------

Palatine, Knight of Venus

Palatine could not dispel the scowl from her face. Though the Chaos was gone, she would not soon forget the things it had said to her, the truths it had exposed. She made every effort to distract herself from it, but as she wasn’t in the mood for celebrating, that left her with only one option.

She summoned her teapot and began to see to the wounded. As a healer, that was, after all, the only thing she was good for.

“So much for the armor,” she muttered, coming upon Valhalla and his bloody arm. She splashed some of the warm tea onto the injury. Fortunately, the wound didn’t seem severe and would heal up in no time, even if she was sparring with the tea.

Palatine spared a brief glance toward Ganymede, but, seeing as her daughter seemed to be uninjured, she decided not to embarrass her by hovering for long.

Quote:
Palatine’s magic can now be used to heal or lessen the severity of mild to moderate injuries (minor cuts and bruises heal completely, whereas moderate wounds become milder), with the added benefit of preventing a wound from scarring. It cannot heal severe or fatal injuries, nor can it diminish older scars. Once again, it has to be poured onto the wound in order to work. Her magic pool now lasts up to 50 seconds of continuous pouring. The worse the injury, the more magic would be required to offer relief.

Sailor Ymir

Ymir stood awkwardly among the crowd, as close to Surtur as he’d been when they first arrived. He did not care to mingle or celebrate, even if he knew what they’d managed to accomplish here meant only positive things for the future of his own world.

He hadn’t bothered to make himself presentable. He was damp from rain and river water, his clothing and hair soaked through with it, a few tendrils clinging to the sides of his face, sticking to his neck. His shoes were missing, and he hadn’t replaced his tiara after baninshing it to subspace earlier. He was splattered with mud. There was blood drying along his hairline, staining the pale strands there a vibrant red.

Alastor and Sessrumnir arrived, but Ymir made no move toward them. He glanced up at Surtur, feeling awkward and out of place, moreso now after what the Chaos had shown them.

Still, he thought there must be something for Surtur to be pleased about.

“Now you know it’s possible,” he said, “to save Surtur. It might just take a couple of Princesses and dozens of others to help.”

Ephesus, Squire of the Moon

Ephesus sniffled quietly to himself as he used his magic on Amarynthos. They finally had a moment to just sit and breathe, so they took their spot at one of the fountains again, hoping that would be where Alastor and Sessrumnir would look to find them.

For the moment, Ephesus was quietly and tearfully fussing over Amarynthos’ injuries. His head in particular he’d said was hurt, so Ephesus made sure to press gentle kisses against Amarynthos’ hair, and use his magic to try and heal whatever he could.

It was also a good way to distract himself from what he’d witnessed. The sight of Alastor covered in blood and sounding desperate and in agony, only to finally be consumed by rage and despair as he turned into shadow, was likely going to haunt him for an unknown period of time.

The slight commotion over Alastor and Sessrumnir’s return drew Ephesus’ attention. And also his tears. His eyes immediately filled with them as he pushed himself up from the side of the fountain, desperate to see if Alastor was okay--

But there were too many people, and he could barely see through the tears, and he didn’t want to leave Amarynthos’ side, and continued to hold onto his hand.

So Ephesus just stood and cried. He at least put a hand over his mouth so he wouldn’t draw too much attention! Most people he hoped would ignore him. He just didn’t want to sit now that Alastor was back, but he also couldn’t get to him.

Illyria, Mauvian

Illyria was trying to maintain an acceptable distance of space from her group as they all returned to the Hall of Ancients. It seemed everyone was gathering once more to share in the success of ridding this world of chaos. Illyria would have been among the crowd but she looked and felt like she'd been put through a literal wash cycle in a washing machine except with water that was not clean to begin with. As she hung back to observe everyone that was gathering she couldn't help but having her gaze drawn every now and then to the shifting prisms of colored light that reflected from the stained glass windows as the sunlight beamed through. Her gaze also kept going over Ida's new found form. Even though she was thoroughly waterlogged did she still wish to be able to celebrate.

Hearing Selinur's comment about wanting to be the first to shower did she feel her whiskers twitch. "I don't think you'll have competition from me although I may need something similar afterwards too."

She shifted closer to the group before staring up at Ida before pawing at the fabric that draped along her friend's bare feet. "I guess I'm out of the loop on some things but I wholeheartedly approve of your new look Ida. It suits you."

Illyria's gaze once more traversed the hall before she padded over to stand at Athene's feet. He was one of Ida's friends and so by extension, even if they didn't know each other very well, she'd be a friend to him if he'd allow it. "You okay there Athene?"

Hawara, Knight of Uranus

Hawara couldn't help but think that he'd done so little compared to the others, but he was immensely proud of them. It wasn't often that when order gathered that they actually accomplished much of anything without starting arguments and being divided. However, they'd come together, and they had accomplished this - the annihilation of Chaos from Alastor's world. It left a hopeful feeling, and maybe as they helped rid Chaos from other worlds, they could learn more about how to do the same for Earth.

For now, he found a place to lean against a wall and observed everyone with the tug of a smile at his lips. He knew he should take the opportunity to network with people, make a few new acquaintances. Maybe with time he'd get better at figuring out how to take the first step in creating bridges. He looked like he might have been about to a time or two, but hesitated. Well... At least now when he saw some of these faces again, he'd at least have an ice-breaker, even if he couldn't bring himself to engage right then.

Super Sailor Perdita

Perdita was tired and sore. She’d exerted herself quite a bit at the dam, dislodging trees and punching Oberon in the face. Well, an illusion of Oberon, at least. Still, the illusion had felt pretty solid, and Perdita wasn’t used to punching people. She kept shaking out her hand and wiggling her fingers in an attempt to ease some of the achiness. Fortunately, she didn’t think anything was broken.

“Would it be terrible of me to say that I’m kind of disappointed we didn’t have very long to study it?” she asked Oberon. The real Oberon. “I know it was a pretty terrible ordeal for a lot of us, but… I don’t know, maybe we could have learned something from it.”

Not that they’d had much of a choice. They couldn’t exactly let the river flood.

Even so, there was something intriguing about it all. Entire worlds plagued by Chaos. Senshi alive in space for centuries. Maybe, with enough experience, they could use what they learned under these circumstances to further help their cause on Earth.

“Sorry,” Perdita said, suddenly a bit sheepish. She thought the idea might be rather cold and heartless, given what some of them had experienced. “I am glad we succeeded. And your brothers look like they’re both okay.”

-------------------------------------

Guardian Cat Lucasta

Back in her feline form, Lucasta prowled around the Hall, wending through ankles and making a thorough accounting of those who populated the area. As far as she could tell, they hadn’t lost anyone. Some looked a bit worse for wear, but with some healing and a shower, they’d be put to rights again in no time.

Satisfied, she made her way back to those she knew best. Valhalla was being tended to by Palatine. Ganymede seemed lost to her own thoughts. Ephesus was seeing to Amarynthos’ injuries. And crying. Lucasta almost sighed — not in exasperation or disappointment, but in resignation. She was at a loss. She didn’t know how to toughen him up in a way that wouldn’t break him into pieces.

Lucasta turned to witness the return of Alastor and Sessrumnir, though she made no move to approach. A celebration was warranted, but she was not the celebratory type, so she would leave the warm welcomes to those better suited to it.

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

“It’s a step in the right direction,” Valhalla said quietly to Ganymede, although when Palatine approached, he offered her a smile in gratitude. Even if he ended up with tea splashed onto his wounds.

“Thanks. Ah, yeah… I guess the armor doesn’t help if it’s missed,” he frowned, looking down at the places Jet’s blade cut him. It could have been worse. A lot worse. The Chaos didn’t take advantage of those who were unwilling or unable to fight. If it tried physically attacking either Amarynthos or Ephesus, or even Lucasta, what could they have done to stop themselves from being injured?

He was just glad that they all seemed to be there. And it was a relief to see Sessrumnir and Alastor back as well.

————————————————————

Sailor Surtur

The most that Surtur did once they got back to the Hall was pull his hair up into a messy bun so it wasn’t dripping down his back as much. He left his tiara in subspace, and he felt like he’d been drowned a few times over.

But they were alive.

And Ymir was right. Getting rid of Chaos on their worlds was possible. Gathering up a couple Princesses and dozens of others seemed like nothing when compared to everyone he’d lost.

The images were still fresh in his mind. The faces of people he hadn’t seen in centuries. People he’d cared for. Loved. He missed them with every beat of his heart and breath from his lungs. And yet all he could do was just keep pushing on.

“We’ll save Ymir too,” he insisted, and then reached over to place a light hand against Ymir’s back. “I need you to survive with me, for however long we can. Please.”

————————————————————

Eternal Sailor Oberon

Gently, Oberon reached to take Perdita’s hand. Not to just hold it, although there was nothing wrong with that, but because he wanted to make sure it didn’t seem broken or in need of immediate medical assistance.

“I don’t think it’s terrible,” he shrugged. “We might be able to do more if we learned what this Chaos actually was. We’d have a better advantage over it. Maybe.”

He didn’t know. All he knew was that the Chaos had taken the form of his father, and his back was still pretty torn up from being hit against a tree. But he was grateful that Perdita and the others were okay.

“Yeah,” he agreed quietly as he glanced over to where Valhalla was, and then Sessrumnir, before focusing back on Perdita’s hand.

“I’m sorry for whatever I did that made you need to punch me,” he said a bit morosely. Whatever it was, he knew he -- or at least the Chaos version of him -- deserved it.

Super Sailor Varuna

Varuna thought she was doing a good job of being able to hold herself together after everything. After seeing Adria die, and after Lysithea revealed her civilian identity to her during a very dangerous time, Varuna was rather shaken up. And she was still trying to process what kind of magic they’d used.

For the moment, Varuna made sure that Adira was comfortable sitting in one of the chairs that had been set up in the hall, and glanced over to make sure Malus, Ilse, and Lysithea were close to him.

“I’ll be right back,” she promised, and pressed a kiss against the top of Adria’s head, and then let her hand brush against Lysithea’s arm as she passed her.

There was someone she needed to see first. Two people. But one she needed to talk to before anyone else.

Varuna quietly crossed the Hall to where Ganymede was still in her Princess form. She paused for a moment in front of her, and then reached out to give her a hug.

Palatine was nearby as well, and she knew her auntie saw her, but she thought it was about time that Ganymede knew who she was, after so many years.

Eternal Sailor Lysithea

Lysithea felt rather exhausted, and now that they were grouped together again, she wanted nothing more than to be home. Though, as Varuna went off to talk to someone else, her eye lighted on the two kids who were still in the room and she let her fingers run through Adria’s hair for a moment. “I’m going to go check on those kids, I’ve been worried about them since we all went our own ways, and I just want to make sure they’re okay, I’ll be right back, and hopefully…we’ll be home soon.”

It was said to all three of those who were still there, but she made her way over to the two Moon Squires, one of which was crying. “Hey…I know I didn’t really get to meet you both but, I’m Sailor Lysithea…did you both come through okay? I have some healing magic left, if either of you need it, it’s my last bit but…I’d love to help you.”

They were precious. Honestly they were. She glanced around briefly, wondering where Soleiyu was and how he had made out. She was itching to hold him again. She missed the fluff monster badly.

Sessrumnir, Knight of Jupiter

Sessrumnir was quiet as he entered the Hall behind Alastor. He looked around to make sure there wasn’t any kind of emergency, and when he was relatively satisfied that there wasn’t, he settled a little.

He didn’t move far from Alastor, although he let the Senshi of that World be greeted by those who had helped clear the Chaos. The Senshi from before (Solaris) was there, but he didn’t pay her too much attention. Instead he tried to catch sight of his brothers or the boys. Maybe even check on how Palatine and Cybele were doing.

Even though he was exhausted, they still had a little ways to go before they could go home. So instead, he focused on the little orbs of light that must have found its way inside behind them, holding out his hand to let one dance over his palm for a bit, before it flitted away.

Sessrumnir couldn’t help but smile. Maybe a bit sadly, but also with so much hope and pride for everything Alastor had accomplished. With everyone’s help, of course.

Eternal Sailor Alastor

When Solaris approached and held open her arms, he repeated the gesture to invite her into a hug. If she needed one, he wasn’t so battered that he couldn’t offer it. He was careful with his hand and shoulder but he made no effort to draw any attention to his injuries, especially the ones that were harder to see. He was scanning the room for–oh, there were the boys. Ephesus was crying, but Lysithea was talking to them. He tried to smile and wave so that they would know he was on his way over.

“I think it’s gone,” he answered Erytheia. “I don’t feel any of it anymore. We found the source of it in a cave not too far off in the forest. I don’t think it would have been possible to get to it at all if I hadn’t had all the help here. I owe you a lot of thanks. I’ll keep my eye out and make sure nothing seems out of place, but I haven’t seen a single shadow move since we got out of there.”

He didn’t think he was just being optimistic about it all.

Alastor was pretty confident it was gone. He was cautious, and he’d want to double check with Soleiyu and his chaos readers, but it felt right again.

Amarynthos, Squire of the Moon

Amarynthos had been enjoying the attention Ephesus was giving him, and he’d tried to return the attention with little hugs and hand squeezes and gentle kisses. When Sessrumnir and Alastor returned, he’d leapt up too, and if he thought Ephesus would have wanted it, he would have led the way and pushed past everyone just to get to Alastor.

He’d done what he could to reassure him. When Lysithea approached, he instinctively pulled Ephesus close so he could rub his back and try to calm him down. “We’re okay, thank you. We didn’t get too hurt. We were inside for most of it.” The only thing that had hurt was his heart when they were dealing with the illusions, and he didn’t know if there was something that could heal them.

“Were you okay? You were in the group by the gates, right? It looked all torn up out there.”

Because, of course they’d stuck their heads out to see if they could spot Sessrumnir and Alastor coming back and, when they hadn’t, they’d gone to sit down and wait. Patiently. Sort of.

“Oh, sorry. It’s nice to meet you, I’m Amarynthos and this is Ephesus.” He held out his left hand to shake while he wrapped his right arm around Ephesus’ waist.

Ephesus was doing his best not to make it obvious how upset he was. He didn’t want to look so distraught that Sessrumnir and Alastor would never consider taking them out to potentially dangerous places again.

But after seeing what he saw, Ephesus didn’t think anyone could blame him for being upset. Or… maybe they could say he was naive or too thin skinned. And maybe he was, but he was doing his best.

He wanted to be polite and say hello to Lysithea, but instinctively leaned into Amarynthos when he was pulled close, and clung to the fabric of his jacket in the hopes of it bringing some kind of comfort. He didn’t get a chance to see Alastor wave to them, but then again, he couldn’t see much with the tears falling from his eyes.

“H-hello,” he sniffled in greeting to Lysithea between sobs, using the back of his hand to rub at his face. “Thank you, that’s-- very kind,” he said, trying to hold his breath so he could force himself to stop crying. He didn’t want Lucasta to tell him that he needed to be better or… or something. He was trying! He was just upset.
