Darkness descended upon Destiny City early in the day. The clouds were not particularly unnatural, but the darkness that came with them was. In the early afternoon, the sky had been a pale gray and light, scattered rain plagued the city. By mid-afternoon the clouds kept rolling in, each new wave darker than the last.

By five, it might as well have been night time. The clouds were imposing and threatening, and yet there was no thunder, and--odder than that--almost no rain.

Just the imposing threat.

For hours, it sat, churning. For hours, the shadows grew and grew and grew, concealed by the darkness.

And then, a different type of darkness.

The shadows reached and clung and gripped to any living creature they could find. Unpowered civilians, Powered warriors--youma, Mauvian.

They didn't discriminate. Hands, bony and sharp, wrapped around whoever they could find and dragged them into their dark abyss.

It was a strange sensation--cold, first and foremost. The hands were not cruel or violent, but desperate and clinging, yanking and clawing until their target was completely enveloped in the darkness. It was like walking through a wall of water and arriving in a completely dark world.

There were no lights, at first. No visible structures or shapes, and even those with the best vision would not be able to make out anything. A few seconds pass, and slowly something appears--you.

A pale white glow begins to form around every living creature sucked from Destiny City. Everyone arrives in separate locations, but slowly, in the distance, you can begin making out the lights of those trapped here with you. If you try to walk to them, you may find yourself running into strange obstacles--nothing that will stop you from moving, but enough that it is worth proceeding with caution. Strange blocks will topple over as you walk past them, but if you go to pick one up you will find nothing; strange sheets will wrap around you, clinging to you before tapering away to rejoin the shadows. Everything you encounter is coated in thick, inky blackness. When you walk across the ground you find it is uneven and bumpy with many small obstacles--rocks, rope, things that crunch and crinkle.

Things you cannot see.

The world is silent, sans a strange, distant noise you cannot quite make out.

Welcome to the shadows!

Whatever curse has befallen Destiny City has grown in power; there are no clues as to how anyone arrived here--or, more importantly, how to get out. All characters may participate in this event, however powered characters will have the advantage in upcoming prompts. You may not power down or power up upon arriving; you are stuck in whatever form you arrived in. You may join this roleplay at any point in time, however when points are calculated for the end prize you will not be able to make up any points from previous prompts you missed. ICly this will take place over the course of a single evening. New prompts will typically be posted approximately every 48 hours, however the next post will be up tomorrow night!

Adorea, Senshi of Optimism

Adorea was but a drop in the ocean; one of pure darkness with nothing save herself for company. Whatever had finally grasped her and dragged her into the depths of the void still remained a mystery, but when her eyes had opened she had been greeted with nothing. At first the fear had clung to her, grasping at her chest and pressing inwards. That sense of suffocation was unlikely to go away and it was safe to say that in the grand scheme of things there was something more than just a little unsettling about the darkness.

For some reason it felt familiar.

Ah, but it wasn't that the young red head knew what this darkness was, the mere embrace of the void simply stirred a measure of deja vu within her that made little sense and left her uncomfortable. Had it not been for the circumstances she had been brought here she might very well have found it a little more relaxing that she cared to admit... Which was odd as she didn't do the lone-wolf thing very well. Very much a creature of community, she was a social butterfly and to be on her own... Well, she wasn't the greatest of fans to say the least.

Her lips pursed as her boots finally settled on something, terra firma as it were even if she couldn't see it. Whatever made up the landmass crunched beneath her feet and it was with a deep breath that she cast her gaze out towards absolute nothingness. At first there seemed to be nothing out there, she was aware of herself even if she couldn't see her hands and then there was light.

They were hardly floodlights, but tiny specks began to appear on the 'horizon'. Dimly lit and varying in shapes and size, it seemed that she wasn't the only one to have found herself pulled into a world of nothing. At first she did nothing, merely gazing out uncertainly towards those that lay in the distance; it was only after several moments that she did find her courage and began to take several cautious steps forward.

Steps that were promptly halted as she slammed her shin into something rather hard and completely unseen - she'd hit something equivalent to a rock.

"MOTHER FU -" The senshi snapped, making no attempts to keep herself quiet, if anyone could even hear her anyway!

Illyria, Guardian Cat

There had been no warning. Well in hindsight maybe there had been and Illyria was just too preoccupied to have noticed anything was amiss. The tiny Mauvian had set out to check on a geocache coordinate that she'd stumbled across recently and was keen to see if she could locate the cache in question. Whatever the case was this time there was no warning that Illyria picked up on. One minute she was darting across a road to head into a wooded area and the next - well she wasn't sure what happened. But it almost seemed as if the shadows that had been plaguing the city finally made their move.

Within the blink of an eye; too little time to let out a terrified mewling that would surely catch the attention of anyone around, Illyria found herself dragged into a patch of shadow so black that she couldn't even fathom the density involved. The sensation of having fingers drag her tiny body further into the encroaching darkness was enough to have anyone on edge. What had Kami said about Halloweens in Destiny City? That things got creepy and weird? Well now it looked like the tiny Guardian cat was going to experience just how weird things could get - whether she wanted to or not.

Polyhymnia had been on patrol when it happened. The shadows had been odd the past week or so and she'd managed to lose sleep over it, refusing to sleep in the dark but having trouble sleeping with the lights on at home.

She hadn't expected to be walking, looking for anything out of the ordinary, only for something to find her, the feeling of hand and fingers pulling along her body causing her to scream until suddenly she could scream no more, engulfed as she was, falling through the shadows.

She came out somewhere, somewhere she couldn't see, she was too scared to move even a little as she clenched her arms to her chest, knees shaking a bit until there was a soft, gentle glow surrounding her body.

She could see (or she thought she could see) figures likewise glowing in the distance. Before she could think anything of it, she began walking, screaming when she felt something brush against her ankles. "Is anyone else here?!"

Mia Seidel*
Character’s name: Mia Seidel
Age: 24
Appearance: Tall and fit, long wavy blonde hair and sea-green eyes. Favors t-shirts and denim cutoffs with hiking boots.
Personality Traits: Confident, Loyal, Knowledgeable, Headstrong, Impulsive, Proud
The Space Cauldron

Mia slowly opened her eyes. Or thought she had, the darkness enveloping her was so absolute that it was hard to tell. A complete inky blackness, not unlike an unlit tomb or cavern, but somehow this was something more ominous.

How had she even gotten here? The antiquarian had spent the better part of her day assisting at the natural history museum, unfazed by the encroaching cloud cover whilst entrenched in the maze of the back offices. It wasn't every day one returned from an acquisitions outing with such an intact relic as she had, and the excitement had kept the young woman's attentions off the threatening weather.Exiting the building into the pitch of night had been a tad disorienting, however. Was this some sort of trick, had she been mugged? There was a distinct recollection of being grabbed and dragged while passing a thin alleyway between storefronts.

In her musing the displaced adventurer became aware of that she was actually standing upon some manner of surface, and it was crunching under her shoe soles. It seemed unstable, brittle. Shale? The professional portion of her mind was kicking in. Closing her eyes one more time and peeking one open just to ensure she wasn't dreaming, Mia let out a whoosh of dissatisfied breath. Still in the creepy void. Right then, explorer mode it was.

Using small shuffling steps, the blonde kept one foot planted while probing forward with the other. The method had saved her from several pitfalls and faceplants into walls previously. Just more of the same, really: cracking stone. After a few terse moments of this, the tip of a boot knocked against something solid. Curious, Mia gave it a little test kick. Whatever it was seemed to wobble a bit.

Falling into a crouch, the intrepid trekker extended a palm. Nothing. What? There was a distinct chill, a feeling of panicked suffocation as though she'd been buried in a wet blanket, and a brief lingering slithering feeling across her bare arms. As quickly as it happened, all was still and quiet again.

"Happy Halloween to you too, creepy shadow realm," she muttered, taking a grateful breath only to immediately spend it on sarcasm.

As if in response, a dull glow assaulted the historian's unadjusted eyesight. It was coming from... her? She had seen some very odd things before, but she'd never glowed. Other faerie lights were appearing in the distance. Seemingly a ways off, but who knew in here?

Suppressing an urge to jog, she safety shuffled forward as quickly as she dared. Whether hellspawn natives or other unfortunate captives, anyone who was creating the other glows would be better company than disappearing whatevers. On cue, Mia stumbled over a cunningly-placed coil of rope. Perfect. She hated this place.

"MOTHER FU-" a voice rang in the emptiness.

At least she wasn't alone in her sentiments.

"Someone there?" she hailed cautiously, heading toward the glow from which she thought she'd heard the voice.

Captain Aquamarine

“I hate this city,” Aquamarine grumbled to himself.

One moment he’d been out playing the part of the good little agent, collecting energy more to ease a spell of boredom than to satisfy any sense of obligation he might feel to do so, then the next thing he knew there were weird shadow hands gripping his ankles, dragging him into some strange abyss he could neither identify nor muster up much excitement for having discovered. All he knew was that it was dark and the hands that grabbed him were cold and bony — not an encouraging sign, but also not a surprising turn of events considering Destiny City’s surfeit of annoying phenomena.

Spitting curses, Captain Aquamarine peered through the darkness in an attempt to determine where he was, but nothing stood out of the gloom until he began to notice pale white lights in the distance. He thought he heard other voices, which seemed to indicate that he was not alone here — a circumstance he faced with a mingled sense of irritation and relief. He didn’t often care to work with others, but if that’s what it took to get out of here…

Wherever here was.

Aquamarine turned and began to make his way toward the nearest source of light, only to knock the toe of his boot into something that felt solid but seemed to have toppled out of the way before he could reach for it himself. He cursed again and hopped around on one foot until his abused toe stopped aching as much, then proceeded with more caution, stumbling over the uneven ground. The crunching beneath his feet was far from reassuring.

“Anyone have any idea where we are?” he called out, though until he was face-to-face with another human being, he didn’t expect to receive an answer.

    Ilian Jones (aka General Jet)

Working retail often meant getting strange hours. Ilian didn’t mind closing since it meant he could then leave to gather energy without being harassed about his life choices.

Being pulled into a shadowy world, on the other hand, he did mind. He was used to Destiny City’s quirks, but it didn’t mean Ilian appreciated them. Especially when no one bothered to mention these preplanned quirks to him ahead of time.

But unlike the incident with the hospital and various other problems that arose because the Negaverse was actually not as organized as everyone liked to believe, being dragged out of the darkness that was the Destiny City streets and into this… void… seemed beyond even the Negaverse’s capabilities.

And unfortunately for Ilian, it seemed as though he was stuck as he was, having been caught while still a civilian.

He tried to power up again, closing his eyes and trying to call out the power that remained dormant inside him, but nothing.

To make matters worse, he wasn’t alone. He could hear voices in the distance, but he couldn’t tell who they were or even if they were only illusions.

Super Sailor NixUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

As seemed typical come October, things in DC were getting odd. And this particularly dark day seemed especially so.

Naturally, he "locked himself in his room" and put on some anime before bounding out his window and powering up to have a look around. Maybe he could find a cause.

He wasn't entirely sure "bodily dragged into a black void" really counted. But it sure seemed the right direction. Though hopefully it wouldn't end too badly.

After a moment of total black, and before he thought about a flashlight, he realized he, and other people in the distance, were glowing. "Huh." He muttered softly. He squinted, frowned, and headed in the direction of the nearest light. It was as good a place to start as any...And stepping through this mess was gonna be a pain.

Sailor Adorea, Senshi of Optimism

"That depends," she drawled in reply to the disembodied voice. The glow had been too faint for her to make out at first and based on her previous experiences within the last week or so she had reason to doubt that what was happening was even real. She'd seen ghostly cats, been chased by demon dog things, she'd seen weird ghosts running from a freaking pony on a carousel and forget about the shadows...they'd been trying to grab her for the last few days.

Hell, they had grabbed her.

"Who's asking?" she demanded as righted herself and lifted her leg to give her shin the soothing rub that it deserved. Whatever she had hit was going to leave an ugly bruise, she wouldn't be wearing a skirt for a while if she slammed into anymore unseen obstacles - evidently, these environs demanded more care and consideration.

Fortunately, as she grew more accustomed to her immediate surroundings (or lack thereof), she did begin to take note of those glowing lights that seemed to be slightly closer to her. They were faint but she could make them out and after a small pause, she began to make her way closer towards where she had heard the voice emanate from.

At least she thought it had come from this general direction...

It seemed that as the light had graced her own form, there were others who found themselves in the same position and alarmed voices had sprung up from a number of locations. In fact, there seemed to be shrieks of fear from somewhere as well... In the grand scheme of things it was quite the challenge to wander in the correct direction, but she'd manage.

"You know if this is some kind of Escape Room I'm not really feelin' it," she added, her nose wrinkling in distaste.

"Pretty sure kidnapping isn't cool if you didn't agree to it in the first place and last time I checked I hadn't signed up for one of those," she muttered.

A momentary pause.

"I should have asked for them to install a flashlight in this thing," she grumbled. She was obviously talking about her suit but it was unlikely many could see her clearly at the moment.

Another pause and then another smack; previous footing slipped away and those poor shins once again found themselves slamming in to something.

"OH COME ON!" she howled in a sufficiently loud voice that anyone in her vicinity probably would have heard her.

Makemake, Corrupt Senshi of Porcelain

Look, darkness, Makemake was the one who was supposed to be doing the bamboozling around here! October was prime time for her pranks and schemes, but whatever otherworldly powers came over Destiny City this time of year did not discriminate. So when she was suddenly grabbed by the shadows, Makemake was not so much suprised as she was outraged.

"How DARE-" her cry was cut off as she was consumed by darkness.

Try as she might she could not see anything. It was....isolating and horrifying. And then a pale glow surrounded her, and...oh she was bizarrely glad to know she wasn't alone here in this....place. She tried to walk, but things just got weirder and scarier. If this was karma for her infiltrating that haunted house attraction and stealing all that fear-induced energy, then karma was, indeed, a b***h.

None the less, she stumbled as she walked in the direction of the other faint glows.

Eternal Sailor Athene

Whilst Arian and therefore by extension Athene, was quite fond of the autumn, he couldn't help but feel a little bit of trepidation as the days got closer and closer towards Halloween because this was Destiny City and weird things almost always tended to happen around the holidays.

The shadows hadn't helped, in fact the shadows most definitely weren't helping, especially since it was starting to feel like he was seeing shadows absolutely everywhere.

He had kept quiet about, with Orah and with Saffron and with Anxo and with Liryn, not wanting to worry any of them - but he had a feeling that Anxo was seeing through his 'I'm okays'–

And given the way that Liryn had suddenly taken to sticking to his side like glue on the days that he patrolled as Athene, it seemed like the small tabby bobcat, mauvian had most definitely seen through his 'I'm okays'.

Today was a case in point, Liryn having taken it upon himself to come out with him after the strange darkness that appeared to have rolled in across the city had him slipping out of the apartment earlier than planned.

Habit, at least when it came to the general strangeness that was Destiny City, had had him powering up as Athene, although he hadn't planned to be powered up for that long given that he - or more accurately Arian - was supposed to be going costume shopping with both his boyfriend and his boyfriend's younger brother.

Halfway he told himself silently as he reached down to settle Liryn on his shoulder - I'll aim for halfway and then power down - because he could get across the city faster as Athene than as Arian anyway.

He didn't get to do so, something without warning catching him up - catching them both up, Athene losing track of Liryn as something dragged him into the shadows.

Mauvian Liryn (human form)

Whilst Liryn adored Athene (and by extension Arian), the dark-haired senshi that was his friend and flatmate often tended to have an annoying tendency to try and downplay things.

Liryn had let him do so - well at least at first he had - at least up to the point where it had become clear that his friend wasn't sleeping properly and then he had put his paw down–

Which had translated into making sure that he stuck to Athene's side like glue.

Today had been no exception, Liryn close by first Arian's - and then after he had powered up Athene's side–

He hadn't been close enough, a yowl of protest escaping his throat as Athene suddenly disappeared from right in front of him, the dark-haired eternal's hands still outstretched towards him as the shadows swallowed him up.

Instinct or maybe something else had had him shifting, a brief flurry of pale jade sparkles as the cat-human took the place of the cat, but then the shadows had reached out and simply dragged him in too.

Although he had no idea as to where here was.

Wherever here was however, Athene was somewhere out there - at least Liryn refused to think that Athene was anywhere other than somewhere out there–

And that meant he was going to find him.

Myrrha - Super Senshi of Scents

It had been a long while since Rayna had even thought of going out on a patrol. The young woman had been in need of serious downtime from the events of the Halloween shenanigans two years prior and even now she was tempted to forgo this small nightly stroll amongst the growing shadows. Her fingers trembled as she darted into a concealed alleyway in order to call upon the power of her birthright. Moments later she sat on an empty crate staring down at the uniform that she wore and sighed. While a bit of a relief that she still possessed the power to change into Myrrha there was niggling doubt that maybe, just maybe she wasn't ready to resume her duties as a super senshi. Feeling guilty with that thought rocketing through her mind the obstinate part of her began to get restless. Sitting down feeling sorry for ones self wasn't getting the job done that needed to be attended to. Only actively seeking out trouble would.

With a heavy sigh Myrrha pushed herself off the crate and chanced a glance skywards. The rain that had been falling all day had finally stopped but the clouds remained, and looked to threaten more rain if the ominous darkening was any indication. "Perhaps just a small look-see then, and then straight back home. Gotta be some truth to the reports going for the news to pick up on it ... but still. I don't see anything abnormal."

Maybe not seeing was the issue though. As she moved to change her vantage point the Scents senshi picked up on the sudden increase in shadow denseness and just before she could do anything the sensation of being grabbed at - caught and dragged backwards - into a bank of shadows that had lingered and grown substantially since her arrival was enough to draw out a expletive from the normally reserved senshi as she found herself drawn into a void like none other than she'd experienced before. To come out of the experience only to be greeted with absolute darkness had Myrrha cursing under her breath. "Just ******** great. The one time I feel up to patrolling and this type of s**t happens once again. Thanks a lot Destiny City."

Murmuring more to herself as she attempted to explore the darkness that blanketed everything Myrrha began moving forward in a shuffle movement that had her realizing that objects were crunching under her feet. Her arms moved slowly back and forth as if that could do anything helpful. "Where's an Intrepid class starship when you need one? Pretty sure the Void was something like this. This is so not my day."

Chibi Sailor Leaena

Chibi Sailor Leaena had literally been on patrol for a week when the shadows took her. Etamin and Pasithee should really be freaking now. Leaena found herself in the complete darkness, but did not cry out. Instead, she breathed deeply and braced herself for what might happen. When she began to glow, she swore, "By the Cauldron," under her breath. There were others glowing too, out in the mist of it. This must be what Etamin was calling the Prime Halloween Magical Convergence. But Leaena couldn't remember anything else he had said about it.

People were starting to get up and moving around. Some were swearing and yelling as they ran into things that didn't seem to be there after all. Then she heard a familiar "Huh!" "Super Sailor Nix!"

Anniliese Mathieu (Senshi of Icebergs)

It was pretty late by the time Anneliiese left the craft store. She had spent hours inside. As usual for her. She had told herself that she was only going to get one thing and ended up with bags of stuff. She was walking home with all the stuff thinking of all the crafts she could do with them. At first, she didn't notice anything. But then the hairs on her neck started sticking up. She looked around her.

"What in the?..."

Anniliese wasn't sure about what she was looking at. She couldn't really explain it. She was sure no one would belive her even if she did. She guesses that now she would have to be accostumed to all of this strangeness.

Shadows everywhere she turned. She heard stories about them but had brushed it off as maybe crazy talk But now? Now she believes. She tried to run. But all the stuff she was carrying was weighing her down. Which meant that she had to ditch.

"There goes my allowance."

She threw them to the side and tried to make a dash for it. But it was too late she got sucked up in the shadows.

Sessrumnir, Knight of Jupiter

“Well this is ******** typical,” Sessrumnir mumbled in annoyance. He’d been on patrol and was in the process of heading home, but the universe didn’t work like that. So, after being relatively surprised that something, mysterious entity or not, was capable of physically dragging him out of one world and into a seemingly alternate dimension, the bemusement quickly shifted into ire.

It probably didn’t help that he hadn’t planned on eating until he got home that night.

So not only was he annoyed, but he was also kind of hangry.

And not only that, but he couldn’t power down to mask his knight aura. Sessrumnir had yet to decide if this was a good thing or not.

There were at least others. Some closer and some he could barely see their glow in the distance. One super sensh seemed to be rather distressed and mumbling to herself.

However, her muttered comments had him pause, his lip twitching into a grin.

“Guess we should start pooling our resources?” If they really were in a Star Trek episode, then they might as well follow the plot points.

Or not. He’d been around long enough to know this stuff often ended more chaotic than it should.

“Is anyone else around? We should see what we have to work with so we can all get out,” he suggested, his usually tamped down optimism peeking through.

“I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Sessrumnir.”
