Destiny City Botanical Garden was well known for two things: its conservation efforts, and its hybridization program. Mostly funded by anonymous donors, the Botanical Garden keeps guest coming by insuring there is a different feature every season to go along with the ever changing colors. In early November, there was a small announcement in a few scientific columns that this year's Holiday Night Extravaganza was going to be an event not to be missed, but very little information about the specifics had been released.

They were always secretive--but never like this.

This year promised to be something great. Something no one would forget!

Like other years, there were local celebrities attending. Admission for a ticket was a mere five dollars where VIP tickets were averaging around seventy five and came with a fancy gift bag full of sponsored items. There was an open buffet for all guests and the gardens were open for everyone. Christmas lights elegantly decorated the walkway and soft Christmas music played in the background.

Careful decorations had transformed the gardens into a Winter Wonderland; fake snow lined the walkways and the the prairie meadow had been transformed into a snow field, complete with fake igloos. Most notably though was that everything seemed to carry references to the holiday poinsettia.

A new variety of Poinsettia has been discovered! Or created? There is a scheduled discussion to properly introduce the Poinsettia later this evening but for now the guests will have to settle for admiring the displays.

In the center of the Garden, a display shaped like a Christmas tree has been set up to show off the new plant. Standing nearly twenty feet tall, the star of the party was center stage and glowed in the white twinkling lights!

Each poinsettia had a vibrant, rich red color--but that wasn't what made them so special.

Closer inspection would reveal that it wasn’t the twinkle lights that caused this glow.

No, the leaves on these Poinsettia were giving off a soft, silvery glow. It looked like a morning dew, only with fine silver glitter that gave it a unique sparkle.

It was aptly named 'The Winter Star'.

The doors to the Botanical Garden were just opening and already people were filing in. News Cameras and reporters are already here. If you are a student at any school, you are given a waiver for your ticket (and extra credit if you write a five hundred word summary of your experience at the event!). People of all ages are welcome--so come in and enjoy the flowers. Or, at least, the free food!

The Winter Star.

That is what Imagi was here to see and the girl made sure she would not miss it for anything.

The young girl had gotten her ticket from school and had been patiently waiting for the extravaganza since the day that she had obtained the little paper voucher. She loved shiny things and she loved biology and she especially loved unique and interesting plants. What better place to see these things all at once?

It seemed she had gotten to the botanical garden a bit early as there weren't many people there yet and that was just as fine with her as she liked being alone. Maybe she would take a look at the new species while she had time before too many people entered and it would be harder to examine?

Emily Qily // Kestrel DeLacey

God damn their adult figures. Emily liked listening to Kes on the radio well enough, but since Ri came clean to them Hui Jun had insisted on ensuring the children of his pair of ladies... Well...

Cousin bonding was fine and even understandable -- Hui Jun was visiting with Ri and his stay seemed oddly long -- but right now it was not either woman's idea of fun to be visiting a hoity toity garden party. Still... Free food and flowers. Emily was fiddling with her suit slowly, wishing to all things holy that Joseph was there and Kes...

Well, Kessy wasn't feeling better in a black and neon blue cocktail dress, but both understood the other was not in the best mood, and Emily leaned to Kes finally, murmuring.

"Is it me or is Hui Jun being a tryhard about this?" She murmured. Kes snorted, amused.

"THINKS he's my Dad. And yeah, he kind of is."

Kes chuckled grimbly, and Emily nodded, half-grinning. Both seemed relieved the uneasy air was merely a mutual feelig, and Kes motioned, huffing.

"Personally, I could be running a club event. You Wrenny?"

Oh God, someone told her her father's nicknames for her. Her uncle was a DEAD MAN.

"Me? Yeah, truthfully I would rather be gaming or something." She shrugged, and Emily nodded towards the door. "No reason not to kick this up and cause a ruckus if we ascern we won't get thrown out."

Kes laughed.

"Gid, you're awesome."

"I know it."

Allison Abson

So her om threw her out to have fun with winter break coming. Son of a biscuit. Allison was not in the mood, except the Garden had flowers - and flowers meant ideas of a boquet to give Tor. She had plans to wax-dip some flowers, and seeing them now was one idea to know what to buy. Still, Ally asn't dressing like a girl. The idea didn't feel good, and her skin crawled looking at her women's clothing, and so, she was donning a full-tilt victorian man's wardrobe, adjusting her ascot as she approached the Botanical gardens briskly.

"God let there be a perfect group of flowers..." She murmured. "And not many weeds..."

Jack Burnett - (open for interaction!)

It wasn't like he needed the extra credit, but Jack figured some extra security couldn't hurt. Not like he was going to let anyone know he was doing the five hundred word summary since he had a reputation of the class clown to uphold. No one was allowed to know he took his studies so seriously. If anyone asked why he was here, it was because students had been given a waiver, the food was free, and he hadn't had anything else to do.

Of course the red-head always had something to do. If he wasn't comparing the wording of history books or trying to solve riddles, he was joking around with people. 'Friends' might have been too strong a word for him to use, but he definitely had more than enough acquaintances. Just no one he would have asked to come to the garden for the event with him.

Curious about the hybridization program of the Destiny City Botanical Garden, the teen was eager to learn about what made the Winter Star so special. It didn't take him long to find the Christmas tree-shaped display of the plants, but what he was really eager for was the discussion to properly introduce the Poinsettia later that evening. He leaned over to peer at the strange, silver, glittery-dew-like substance on the red leaves and wondered if, like pollen, it would come off if one shook it. Not that he planned to shake it or anything. If something happened to move it by accident, though...

He glanced around as inconspicuously as he could, wondering if there was anyone or anything near enough to watch him. Even if there were guards or security cameras - which was likely considering how special this plant was to the Garden - if he could determine how many there were, how far away they were, and from what angles they could view him, maybe he could avoid being seen.

Kit Paine - engaging in conversation with Allison out of curiosity

The Sovereign Heights Preparatory student glanced up sharply from his drawing as he heard a voice approach. He knelt on the ground on the side of a fake-snow-lined walkway, appearing be sketching some flowers growing by the side of the path. A plaque nearby read that they were called Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill', were evergreen, and a great deal of other facts about it.

"Hey there," Kit greeted with a warm smile, regarding Allison's male victorian garments. "Those are some fancy clothes you've got on. You like that era?"

The Winter Star

A kind neighbor had donated 1 VIP ticket to the Bones Family for Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Bones, now no longer proud multi-billion business-owners, could not choose their own hours anymore, and had to work all night. Feeling, that since Dria's return, Drew and Dria had started to mature into more reasonable young adults, they left the decision of who would use the ticket up to the twin. Unfortunately, after the adults left, the twins broke out into an argument - each saying that the other should go. Finally Drew, cutting off his sister, made a logical decision. Drew, who had homework to catch up on, an injured kitten that would only take formula from him, and also a vet visit scheduled, would stay home. On the other hand, Dria, who had a passion for and experience with flowers, and needed experience patrolling in street-clothes, would go. Darn him. Oh never mind, Dria thought as she looked around all the pretty decorations and flowers. This place was awesome!

Laurie had texted her earlier to let her know that a new (whether previously undiscovered, or newly created, no one knew yet) poinsettia flower was to be unveiled at the ball; the "Winter Star". Laurie her former foster mother, had been given permission by Dria's parents to continue giving her gardening and flowering-arrangement classes; however, they said money was tight, and they would pay her what they could, when Laurie interjected. There was no way Laurie would let them pay. Dria was like a daughter to her, and had been for four years. The agreement was made.

The Winter Star was dazzling to say the least. Were those real sparkles? Dria wondered as she walked around the display, examining it. The vibrant rich red - the color of blood. And what was that? The petals were giving out a glow. A soft and silvery glow. Beautiful. But wrong. It couldn't be, but it was. Something wasn't right here - Earth flowers, even hybrids, did NOT glow. That's it. This was no longer just a holiday party, for fun. She was on duty as of now. Power up? No. Look suspicious? No. She would just go on and act like this was just like it seemed - a wonderful holiday party. She'd just be a wallflower, aloof and alert. If a guy asked her to dance, she would, but she would still be on constant alert. She would be sparing on the food intake as well. She sighed inwardly as she wondered as if aimlessly, off toward a tree or pillar to hide behind as if she was shy. Her eyes darted here and there, noting everyone and everything. She wondered if she needed to call upon Sailor Etamin. Nah, she thought as she shook her head just the tiniest bit. They wouldn't let Drew in without a ticket, and they definitely wouldn't let in Sailor Etamin without some kind crisis going on. She'd have to do this part on her own. Lucky her.

Jason Wolf

Jason was excited for this event. Unfortunately with finals as they were, his older brother had been unable to attend. So Jason was forced to go by himself. He didn't mind though, he couldn't do everything with his brother! He needed to be independent more often in this city, though Tom would have gone if he thought it was dangerous. Or at least the two of them didn't believe there was as much danger this time as there had been at the festival. And Jason didn't have to stay in the hospital that long. It seemed that if he was going to live in this city he needed to learn how to survive in it.

So here he was, by himself, and although he had gotten a waiver for being a student, he still paid the money , that his brother had given him, for the VIP pass just to get the gift bag. But he had been able to set that aside and to go out and enjoy the garden. He had slowly wandered in, though not blocking the way, as he looked around, trying to see everything.

Although he was mostly interested in the botanical garden, perhaps he could meet some new people here too, either that he hadn't been able to talk to at school or those outside of it. But the food was a good attraction also. Really this just seemed like it would be an interesting time, even if he didn't get to talk to many people.

Christine Rose

Botanical Gardens were a romantic place, right? They certainly sounded it, and so Christine had thought this would be a good place to take Tally out, since neither of them had been up to doing much other than getting their lives sorted out and going for the last several months. Staying in dates and after-work dinners were nice and all, but every now and then something ... more was needed. So why not here? And why not tonight?

Unfortunately, they hadn't been able to walk there together, because Christine had had to work (who worked at this time of year? Oh, right. Theatres. Darn holiday plays, and darn having boring during them.), so right now she was lurking near the entrance, hoping to spot Crystal whenever she came in. Which had to be soon, Tally would never keep her waiting long! Neither one of them could handle being separated for long periods, so...

So they wouldn't be. It was as simple as that.

"Hurry up, Tally," she muttered under her breath, wringing her hands together. "It's not very romantic if your partner shows up late and one or both of you are freaking out about it..."

Reynard Abney

"Gardens aren't... really my thing," Reynard muttered as he looked around, taking in the sights - the human sights, that was. "But if it's a thing for all these pretty ladies gathered around, I suppose it could be my thing. At least for tonight." Even better, there was no-one here he recognized, which meant more people he could flirt with, and no likelihood of .... well. Problems.

Problems that might end up getting him slapped, if someone thought that there was ever anything more intended than short (but satisfying) flings.

For now, though, there was a garden to examine and flowers to get to know. Breathing, talking flowers.

... Surely Cherish wouldn't mind if he chatted up a few lovely roses while he was here, right?

Albert Wiley

Not one for gardens himself, Albert was here for an entirely different - and far more important - reason: that being, to spy on watch over his baby girl while she explored the gardens. Someone had to make sure Emily Wren didn't try to blow anything up while she was here; Albert knew his daughter, after all, and she wasn't particularly keen on this sort of thing either.

Besides, any sort of big event was likely to be a danger any longer, and if there was something off about it (and it wasn't just an overprotective and magically-powered father's paranoia), he needed to be here. There was no way he could let his daughter waltz into a potentially-dangerous situation without her daddy some kind of backup.

.... Alright, maybe he was just being paranoid. And nosy. And overprotective. But Albert had never claimed to be a saint! Nor did he have any illusions that Wrenny was anything but a trouble magnet. At least he was just hovering at a respectful and difficult-to-notice distance, and not creeping on her while hiding in a bush.

He wasn't about to do anything that might get him thrown out, after all!

Shelley Nickson || Open for interaction!

Though she wasn't much for holiday cheer, Shelley enjoyed any moment where happiness and goodwill was the center point of celebration. So with some time on her hands, she decided to check out this little event for something called 'The Winter Star'; it was free with the ticket voucher, after all, and her parents weren't expecting her home early as her patrols were now seen as some questionable, though understandable, teenage interest she'd taken up.

When she entered into the botanical garden, a smile lit up her face. The interior was suitably decked out for that time of the year and she couldn't help a small chuckle at the work those in charge put into the celebrations. Striding on in, her attention was immediately taken by the poinsettia—the aptly named Winter Star—and found herself drawn to it as if it really were a light in the heavens.

Immediately, she took out her phone, and began to snap a few selfies and lone pictures of the flower to throw up on her FB later.

Caelum Dawson || Also open for interaction!

October, November, December—the big trio of celebration. Thinking himself too old for trick or treating and having already stuffed himself full through Thanksgiving, there was now the December holidays, or just in his household, Christmas. And, of course, Caelum thought it sucked.

Big time.

Since he was now only living with his dad, he wasn't expecting much in the way of presents—the greatest gift is one's generosity yadda, yadda his dad would spout—and the incessant need to be merry was just a big annoyance to the boy. So bah humbug and yadda, yadda.

The pink-haired boy wasn't always such a Grouchy McGrouch, but ever since turning fourteen, his teenage angst had quadrupled in severity. So when Rigel, his father, forced him to go to this little flower celebration, it wasn't out of the goodness of his heart, and more to get the snappy boy off his back for a few hours.

Caelum found himself already in the botanical garden glaring at passersby and kicking up the fake snow as if it were the real thing. His frown seemed to deepen when he passed a group that made a big deal over the red flower thing, the poy-een-seet-a or whatever.

What's the big deal?
he thought. It's just a plant that looks like any other of those other plants during the holiday.

Emily Wren Wily // Kestrel DeLacey

Emily yawned, looking around for the food as she walked in, humming a sprightly song about, well, death as she entered. But it was Kestrel who was more alert. Although the page had no idea she was incompany of a super senshi, gatherings attrsacted chaos and frankly, she didn't want this cousin to run afoul of someone Cordoba couldn't fend off.

That being said, unlike Wrenny, KES did notice her would-be-aunt's.... Well, partner in crime, and raised a brow at him, nudging Emily idly.

"Is... Your dad prone to following you places?" She asked. Emily nodded.

"Yeah. I can weird him out though. I just need to... Ah. There!"

And she walked over to a blonde boy and his blonde sister, flashing a bright smile at Reynard and winking.

"Hey, fancy seeing a dandelion around here." She crooned.

Kestrel, for her part, buried her face in her hands.

She was doomed.

Cherish Abney

Cherish thought seeing some lovely roses might cheer hjim up, but didn't say much. No, she was axious and watching everything quietly, leaning close to Reynard as she pursed her lips. Even when somegirl approached him.

"There's a lot of people..." She murmured. "Why did Lou-Papa send us here again?"

A fib. It was alk her trying to cheer Reynard up ENTIRELY.

Crystal Lauper

Crystal hated being alone after sorting her life out. Her memory was swiss cheese and pudding's lovechild and her nerves shot, but Christine had work, so she endured. Tonight was just their first dsate OUT, and Crystal had been sure to dress swiftly, getting her make-up on as she did, and she was applying lipstuck enroute the Garden, closing a compact to look for Cristine, finally making a sound of distress before seeing her pretty lady, and she rushed over, hiding in her promptly.

"Mine." She murmured. "Mine mine mine."

Allison Abson

"Hey." Allison bowed, then grinned, nodding. "You can say that. With a flair for the macabre, though. Makes things more interesting. And you?"

Redbud-Tree

Wrenny no.=

Jack Burnett - noticing Caelum and striking up a not-at-all-suspicious conversation

When Jack looked around to see if anyone was watching him near the Winter Stars, he noticed a pink-haired, grumpy-faced kid around his own age kicking at the fake snow nearby.

A sudden grin sprang to his face and he put a hand up to his mouth, strolling a few steps toward the guy. "Hey, dude," he said, his voice not quite a whisper, but still lowered conspiratorially, "What do you think of these glowing plants?"

Unoderi

Kit Paine - talking with Allison

The black-haired young man laughed at the bow and stuck his pencil behind his ear as he stood up to properly face the newcomer. He held his sketchpad behind his back and put one hand at his front as he performed a bow of his own at the waist.

"Always a fan of interesting things," he answered, beaming. "Is that why you came out here tonight? It's not too cold in that, is it? I mean, I know all this snow is fake, but it's still kinda chilly."

Caelum Dawson || Grumbly-facing @ Jack

Caelum turned about to the voice directed his way and pursed his lips. Shoving hands into the pockets of his jacket, he said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Well, I think they absolutely suck." He glared at Jack, and then at the glistening flower, and then back at Jack as if trying his darnedest to get his point across. "I mean, it's just a flower. A plant. People should celebrate cool things, like dogs, or skateboards. Or dogs on skateboards. Not this pony-seater thing."

Albert Wiley

No. No, no, no, was his baby girl flirting with strange boys again?!? Albert just barely managed to stifle a squawk of outrage, and instead turns his attention to studying... well. The fake snow here certainly was.... lovely. Wasn't it? And Emily Wren better not be getting any poor ideas in her head or he was going to drag her home right now....!

Er. Yes. Nice snow. This. This was nice fake snow....

Reynard Abney

"Dunno, Chey," Reynard answered his sister, and squeezed her hand reassuringly before offering the pretty blue-eyed girl a smile. "Dandelion, is it? It's only fitting that you compare me to a common flower, when I'm but a weed next to the beauty of a rose such as yourself."

Alright, maybe he was laying it on a bit thick, but she was very pretty. The friend (or maybe relative?) with her had a more wild look, but was equally attractive in a neon-coated way. He was more than happy to give them some attention if they truly desired it - but only as long as Cherish was safe, of course!

"May I have your names, ladies? Flower titles are perhaps appropriate to our locale, but they aren't nearly so precious as the names you bear."

Christine Rose

"Tally!" With a happy cry, Christine wrapped her arms around the other woman, pressing a kiss to her cheek and snuggling her. "Sorry we had to meet, but we're together now, and - and it's all going to be okay. So shall we look at the pretty flowers? Maybe we can get some nice decorating ideas!"

So long as nothing disrupted their date. She would hate for the people who abandoned them to show their ugly heads during a nice evening out with her fiancée.

Jack Burnett - having a fun conversation with Caelum

"Whoa. They poison your cereal with pollen or something?" Jack asked, trying very hard to tone down his grin as it threatened to broaden wider than ever. This guy was angry at plants. Something must have really been eating at him to put him in such a foul mood with things that couldn't even move.

"Uh...actually, the red parts are just their leaves. It's those tiny things at the center that are the flowers," the red-head explained. "And anyone can train a dog to ride a skateboard. If it wants to. But these things glow." He pointed at the display. "Think they might be radioactive?"

Caelum Dawson || Wishing he could down a bowl of pollen-poisoned cereal right now

McGrumpson, err, Caelum's face grew a little huffier. Something in the guy's grin irritated the snot out of him, but the pink-haired boy wasn't one to pull punches. Especially over a plant.

Despite how ugly they were.

He half-listened to Jack's explanation, wondering if he suddenly in the company of a botanist or a son of one of the people who funded the event. It'd explain the interest, at least. Finally, he gave the redhead a one-shoulder shrug, and said, "Why don't you eat one and find out? Who knows, you might, I don't know, gain the power to poop exploding poinsettiers or something." At least it'd be better than shooting cranberries out of your hands. "But would someone look into research like that? Radioactive plants?" He went quiet for a moment in thought. "Okay. Never mind. I guess they would. People throw money at anything nowadays."

Like this event, he almost added. Almost. But he was stuck there, so he had to make the most of his time. Even if it meant idle conversation like this.
