Traits Spoiled - Since Kalliope is the youngest child of a large family she is often times given what she wants. She obtains a lot of attention and affection, all of which she enjoys. While it has granted her the knowledge that she is loved it has also made her into somewhat of a brat when she doesn't get her way. It is in this way that she managed to make it to being the precious baby sister to her siblings. She also has a way with the puppy dog eyes. They have been known to melt even the coldest heart.

Curious - If she is anything she is utterly curious. About everything. There seems to be no end to her curiosity. Kalli likes to know things or learn things or even just be privy to gossips. If she has to snoop to be satisfy her curiosity then she will do just that.

She will always try to lighten the mood. Being that she is the youngest she feels that she can get away with this without too much backlash from her family.

              A wandering she goes

“La la la laa la” The young child sang to herself as she played with her doll. There was little else for her to do until her siblings were done with whatever it was they did. Sometimes she wondered where they went and who they talked to. Since she was the baby of the family she wasn't really allowed to go anywhere unsupervised. Not that that stopped her from sneaking off once in a while. Kalliope never went too far. Or at least she hadn't gone far yet.

Holding her doll by the hands she bounced it on the ground to mimic walking. Humming to herself she wiggled her body this way and that as she played. For a while this was enough to entertain the little one. However, it wouldn't last long. Kalli's attention easily transferred to other things quickly. And in fact her attention was snagged by something else within seconds. A loud growl from one of her mother's beasts. Lifting her head she'd look around a minute then slowly get to her feet and brush the dirt from herself. It was odd that the beasts would growl unless there was something near them that they didn't like.

Unable to resist her curiosity she left her doll laying on the ground and walked toward the beast pens. The first one she saw was her mother's Jaranim and it stared at her with a glare. Or at least she always thought it was glaring. The vicious looking creature never appeared to be happy, not even near her mother. As she got closer to the great beast it turned it's head to watch her. Her small size in comparison to the animal was laughable at best. She was no threat to him and they both knew it. “Big thing.” She mumbled to herself.

Kalliope knew that if she got into the pen with the Jaranim she would likely disappear somewhere behind it's massive body. The small Oban girl didn't dare get in the small space with such a dangerous animal. Moving past the grumpy thing she went to peek in at the other beasts. They all seemed to be fine. Only the Jaranim was restless. So what was wrong? Kalli turned her attention once more to the large bodied beast. “What bothers you?” She asked quietly. Since he was on this side of the pen and looking out she figured it had to be something outside his cage.

The girl turned to look around at what could possibly be bothering the animal. She saw nothing right away but after a moment she noticed some tracks in the dirt on the ground. They didn't belong to a person but another animal. Had the Jaranim warned away a wild beast? She blinked and looked up at grumpy creature. “Was that it?” She question. Kalli took a moment to deliberate then decided that she would follow the tracks and figure out just what had bothered her mother's familiar. Forgetting about her doll and even about her family's rule of her not being unsupervised the little red head wandered away from home.

              Comfort from feathers

The child was still somewhat upset with her friend. Kalliope just couldn't understand why there was tension during some moments and none during others. It happened with Azure as well. Was it something she did? Or maybe even something she said that upset them? The youngling sighed as she sat on a large rock. There wasn't much she could do about it, she was just a child after all, but maybe if they would explain things to her. She could learn. Kalli was sure of it.

Tears were once again starting to form in her eyes and she blinked furiously as she did her best to make them go away. The red head even brought her hand up to wipe them away. Crying wouldn't get her anything. Not now. She made a strange noise and lowered her head, feeling ashamed that all she could do was tear up.

In the next moment Kalli was on her feet and yelping as a bird landed on her. She hadn't been expecting such a thing and since she was wallowing she hadn't seen it coming. When the bird dropped to the ground and fluffed up it's feathers she stopped to stare at it. Well it wasn't attacking, that was for sure. “I know what you are..” She spoke aloud to the winged beast. “You're a kinfa.” Granted it was a little one. Likely just left the nest and was learning how to be on it's own.

With a chirp the bird looked at her and she noticed the facial markings right away. It looked like it had a flame on it's forehead. The image made her smile and as the bird hopped toward her she gave a bit of a laugh. “Silly thing. You have wings so you can fly.” Kalliope bent down to pet the bird and was met with affection. The kinfa nuzzled her palm and got closer almost as if it was trying to cheer her up.

Had it been her crying that had brought the creature to her? She winced at the thought. “Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you.” Another chirp and the bird fluttered its wings. The action lifted it off the ground and he was soon perched on her shoulder. Kalli blinked, not too sure how to react. That was until the knifa snuggled close to her. “Awe, thank you.” It was comforting to have the affection and it certainly lifted her spirits a bit. “Can I keep you?” She whispered to the beast.

Her answer came in the form of preening. The kinfa was picking through her hair and even at her ribbon before it settled down enough to close his eyes. “I'll take that as a yes.” She chuckled and went to sit back down, though she was careful not to jar the bird. For a while the two sat there in silence just as they were. It was a nice moment to share. Kalliope wondered if this was how her beast taming mother felt when she was with her familiars. “Lyier. That's your name.” She nodded her head to confirm it and was given another chirp. “Lyier.”

              To learn to dance

Sweat beaded along her forehead and rolled down as Kalliope pushed herself. She was doing dancing exercises. Both stretching her limbs and muscles as well as testing her balance and control. The red head could think only of one thing as she continued. Her friends. She'd promised that she would become a great dancer and dance for them. Kalli wanted to keep that promise. Even if she had left one friend on less than ideal terms. The oban wanted to make things right. She wanted to show that she could keep her word to them.

These thoughts both drove her and distracted her. A moment of non-focus and she fell to the floor. Kalli gave a small cry as she went down but once she landed she balled her hand into a fist and hit the floor hard. “Dang it..” She fussed. Getting up as quickly as she fell Kalliope pushed herself to do the exercise again. She had to get it right. Had to learn the moves so that her body could do them from memory.

She brought her weight up onto one foot and turned. Her goal was to get a fluid spin but half way through she ended up losing her balance once again and fell. This time she caught herself with the palms of her hands. Angry at herself she slapped the surface of the floor and yelled. It was also in that moment that her teacher walked in and made a tsking noise at her. Kalliope looked up and took a deep breath before she let it out. “What am I doing wrong?” She asked.

“You are trying too hard to force it, Kalli. You have to let it happen.” The older Oban woman walked over to her student and held a hand down for her to take. “Come. I show you.” She wiggled her fingers and waited for Kalliope to take it. She did so quickly and was pulled up to her feet. Another deep breath was taken, hoping it would help center her. As she did this her instructor moved to stand behind her and place her hands on Kalli's hips. “Okay. Now do the move.”

The young apprentice nodded her head and posed herself before she started into the spin. She didn't do it all on her own since her teacher moved with her but she did complete the turn. “So why can't I do it on my own?” Kalli was getting frustrated with it all.

The hands on her hips tightened and gave a firm tug before an explanation was given. “You are not moving these. You have them, Kalli, so use them. Draw everyone's eyes to these.” She patted Kalliope then released her and stepped back, making a motion with her hands for the girl to try it again on her own. Kalliope noticed the go ahead and looked down at her feet then her hips. She needed to bring the attention to them. “Okay.. I can do this.” She closed her eyes then nodded before she readied herself.

When she opened her eyes she moved. Her body went up on one foot but at the same time she moved her hips in an alluring way as she spun. When the twirl was complete and she landed back on both feet she grinned from ear to ear. Her gaze went to her teacher and she squealed with delight. “I did it!” She was so excited that she did the move again and this time it wasn't a thought in her mind but a reaction of her muscles. It felt amazing to her, the way her body moved and her limbs seemed to work on their own.

“See. You let it happen and it becomes beautiful.” Her instructor motioned toward her as she twirled yet again. Kalli paused only long enough to giggle with glee. She wanted to do it all night but she knew her teacher had come in to tell her that she was closing up for the night. Walking over to the older woman Kalli threw her arms around her in a tight hug. “Thank you.” It was because of this woman that she would be able to realize her dream and keep her promise. Both things she wanted more than anything in the world. “Yes yes, you did good. Now I must close up and get home. My son will think I have run away.” The woman laughed and patted Kalli's shoulder before she ushered her student to the door.

The young oban moved quickly and when she was outside she saw how dark it was. “Oh, Tieka why didn't you say it was so late? I'm sorry I kept you.” Kalliope cringed. Her mentor shook her head and gave a wave of her hand. “It is nothing, Kalli. You have passion and it has been some time since I have seen that.” She managed to lock the door as she spoke and soon she would turn to walk away. Kalli gave a wave goodbye, feeling good about herself, then took off at a run for her own house. She could only imagine that her family was worried that she had stayed out so late.

A few minutes later she entered the back yard of her house, one of the few to have one, and passed by the animal pens. When her mother's Janarim stuck his head out to look at her Kalliope gave a small chuckle. “Yes yes, I am late.” Quickly she reached into her skirt pocket and pulled out a sugar ball that she held out to him. “There. Still friends?” With the snort from the animal she chuckled but gave a nod and continued on into the house. “I'm home!” Not that she needed to announce that she was back but it always helped. The noise level in the house was always so loud.

“I'm going to my room. Dance practice ran late.” Mostly she had lost track of time. Something she likely got from her mother. After all her mother would be outside for hours with her beasts if no one told her to come in to eat. Kalliope grabbed an apple on her way to her room and took a bite from it. Upon entering her room she was attacked by a ball of feathers that had her laughing. “Easy Lyier. I didn't forget you.” Once more she was in her pocket, this time however she pulled out a sticky ball of seeds.

Looking for a friend... and getting lost

Dance practice had gotten out early, something to which she was ecstatic about since she could go looking for her friend. Maybe if she was lucky she'd bump into him again at random and they could go shopping. Kalli really wanted to go shopping, just not by herself. Or with any of her siblings. Partly because she was sure they would try to tell her what to get or not to get, maybe even tell her it was a waste of her coin. Kalliope knew she didn't need anything, but it was still nice to treat oneself every now and then. With permission from her teacher she bolted to the wash room and started to clean up. Since dancing was physically demanding she had worked up a sweat and didn't think it would be very attractive if she were to smell ripe.

After spending a good amount of minutes in the wash room Kalli emerged refreshed, and with soaking wet hair. The small dancer had taken it upon herself to wash her hair as well. Since she'd had to take it down to do so she held her yellow ribbon in her hand as she walked toward the door. Her free hand giving a wave to her instructor as she left. Outside she paused to take a deep breath then looked left and right. Deciding she would go to the left she started off, doing her best to fix her hair as she walked. Of course it was difficult to do with wet hair.

When she failed to get it right a few times she gave up completely and decided to walk around with her hair loose. Without it being tied up it hung down to her waist. Keeping her hair ribbon in her hand she walked through the streets, looking this way and that in search of any of her friends. Of course she was mainly looking for Incanthis. She wanted to see how he was doing and hang out with him for a while. If he was allowed to do so. The thought was a bit bitter but she remembered that he mentioned a mistress.

The thought of taking Incanthis from such an environment was strong. Though she wasn't so sure he would appreciate the effort. It was likely that someone would mistake her good intention for something bad. Like she wanted to control him or something. Kalliope frowned as she realized that was how she would always be viewed by others. No matter what she did or tried to accomplish she would be seen as an oppressive Oban. Not that she had ever had a hand in the slavery of others.

Taking a deep breath she let out a sigh and looked around at all the people she passed. For those that were not the tell tale dark skin of her tribe she had to wonder if they were someone's servant or mabye they were still kept as a slave in secret. Were there people that still did that? Kalli passed two Matori women and craned her neck to watch them walk past. They looked so meek and she wondered if her people were responsible for that. “I'll ask Inca when I see him..” She knew that would be setting herself up for some bad news and possible insults. Well, maybe not. Inca was very nice. Surely he could explain it to her in better terms than what others had. Or would.

Giving her attention back to where she was going she managed to cross the street without being bumped into, which to her was a good accomplishment. Hurrying along into a part of her hometown she'd not been to, Kalliope started to really search for her friend. Surely shifters weren't that common in Oba, right? Wrong. She saw quite a few and each of them drew her eye. Soon enough she was well into the neighborhood she didn't recognize and couldn't tell which direction she had come from. “Uh oh..” She said to herself.

Standing there and doing her best to figure out where to go next in order to find her way out, she was approached by an older Oban male. “Well, aren't you cute. Who is selling you?” Kalli blinked and took a step back. “I'm sorry, what did you say? I'm not.. I'm not for sale.” Just what kind of neighborhood did she walk into? Whatever it was she didn't want to stick around to find out. So she turned away from the man and started to walk; quickly. The farther she got the more leering gazes she seemed to attract and that made her go faster, almost at a run. Was it just her or were the buildings getting more and more decrepit? No, they were definitely looking a bit worse for wear and not so inviting.

As she discovered she was well and truly lost Kalli slowed so that she could look around. “Inca.... help me.” Her words came out as a whisper, hoping that somehow her shifter friend would appear and lead her out of this area. It didn't happen of course. A whine escaped her and she eyed everyone around her with a bit of paranoia. The tiny dancer didn't want to get snatched up by some unsavory and not be able to make it home. Moving along she gasped in her breaths and kept her eyes peeled for anything familiar in the landscape. “Oh Inca, I think I made a wrong turn..” A short bitter-sweet laugh followed as she shook her head at herself. A wrong turn was putting it mildly. Kalli was convinced she took a wrong turn, dropped down a rabbit hole, and somehow stepped through a mirror into a land that wasn't so friendly.

Then something wonderful happened! Kalliope saw something towering behind the buildings that told her where she was! Heaving a sigh of relief she moved quickly toward the landmark. There was no way she was going to bypass this chance to find herself again and get back on the right path. Quite literally, the right. “I should have gone to he right earlier...” The young Oban chastised herself.

              Reality bites

The battle raged on around her and while she had rushed out to make sure that her friend was alright he had told her he was not going to seek help for his injuries. Kalli thought Saraf to be stubborn but she didn't press the issue. Instead she walked back toward the healing tent that she had left. Surely she would need to explain why she had suddenly disappeared from there. After all, the red haired Oban had been there to help others. She sighed to herself as she thought about how useless she felt in the heat of the battle. Kalliope was a dancer, not a fighter and certainly not a healer. Drawing her bottom lip into her mouth she sucked on it in frustration. "I wish I could do more to help out." She mumbled.

Before she could form another thought or even get another step in she felt a heavy weight hit the back of her head. There was no panic or fear as her world went black since it came on so quickly. Kalli had been blitz attacked by someone and as she fell they caught her only to look around suspiciously before hauling her away from the camp. No one paid any attention to this as there were many bodies being dragged this way and that to be taken to a healer or two.

Bump. Rattle. Kalli groaned. Why was she hitting her head off something? What was that sound? When the tiny dancer tried to shift her weight so that she could sit up she noticed something even more odd. She was hanging half upside down! Her bright red eyes flew open immediately and met with the ground as it passed beneath her and a pair of legs that were doing the walking and were decidedly not hers. Instantly her thought was to suck air into her lungs but her mouth was gagged so she had to do so through her nose. What was going on!? Trying to move her hands was futile as well, since she was somehow chained. When she tried to kick out her legs she was met with a rather unfriendly swat to the rump. "Hold still ya brat." A gruff voice reprimanded her.

"Mmmph murrff mownf." Kalliope tried to squeal through her gag. If nothing else the general intent of her muffled words would get through. She wanted to be put down. Adding to her demand she tried slamming her chained hands into her assailants back, not that it would do much damage. There was too much muscle there to be hurt by her thin arms. And almost as if to prove it the man chuckled. "That all ya got weaklin'?"

The taunt was enough to make the young Oban scowl at the ground as though it were the one that had offended her. In retaliation of how she was being made fun of she wiggled her whole body in an attempt t be put down or at the very least dropped. It was met with a rather rough re-positioning and another swat to her bottom. "Mepht murf mo!" The girl chewed on the cloth that blocked her mouth so that she could try and dislodge it. If anything maybe a well placed scream could get her some help.

The man carrying her heaved a deep breath and lifted his shoulder harshly in response, clearly already finished with listening to her attempts at speaking. This action wouldn't have been so bad had Kalli anticipated it. Instead, since she was otherwise occupied with trying to get her mouth free, her delicate head came slaming down into the man's back with enough force to send her reeling and back into the darkness. This pleased the man and he grinned at the renewed silence and stillness in his charge.

Another bump. Another rattle. This time a call from a voice she didn't know. Even the snort of a beast. Kalliope vaguely remembered what happened the last time she had woken to some of those sounds. It hadn't been very good. At least not for her. So she took her time opening her eyes, wishing that it was all a bad dream and she would wake up on her parent's caravan or something that could explain the strange sounds. It was not to be so. Instead she saw the inside of a wagon. Her head throbbed and she squinted as she turned her head to look around. Since it was covered and otherwise unlit she saw very little but she knew it wasn't one that belonged to her family. Not to mention she was now chained to the side of it and that was something her family wouldn't do. "Great.." Kalli shocked herself as she realized her voice had sounded aloud and not just within her mind.

That meant that at least she no longer had the gag in her mouth. Still didn't explain much else. "Help!!" The small dancer called out hoping that someone would hear her cry from within the wagon and come inspecting. What she got however was not what she wanted. A rather cruel looking man opened the back of the wagon and sauntered on in with a wicked look in his eyes.

"Ah, you're awaken then." A snicker escaped him. "I'm sorry you won't be seeing much. However, you will fetch a nice price when we get you to the market. Do try not to harm yourself." His hand reached out and patted her on the cheek with a bit of harshness before he moved away from her. His words alone had caused Kalli to go cold inside. This man had said she would fetch a price. That meant he was going to sell her and if that was the case then... She was now in the hands of slavers. The irony wasn't lost on her, an Oban now being traded as a slave, but she couldn't find it in herself to even pretend to laugh.

Giving a whimper she sat back and tried to think of what to do. Surely there was some way she could escape right? The metallic clink of her chains was her answer. A solid no. Kalliope had no way to get those things off. Dread settled into the pit of her stomach like a heavy stone as she felt the rolling wheels taking her farther and farther away from safety.
